2000 Jaguar Xj6 problems
The Jaguar XJ is a series of mid-size/full-size luxury cars produced by British automobile manufacturer Jaguar Cars (becoming Jaguar Land Rover in 2013) from 1968 to 2019. It was produced across five basic platform generations (debuting in 1968, 1986, 1994, 2003, and 2009) with various updated derivatives of each. From 1970, it was Jaguar's flagship four-door model. The original model was the last Jaguar saloon to have been designed under the leadership of Sir William Lyons, the company's founder, and the model has been featured in countless media and high-profile appearances.
Series 1, 2, and 3 (1968–1992)
Overview
The first generation Jaguar XJ was produced for a total period of 24 years, with two major facelifts – in 1973 and in 1979, with a raised front bumper and less tall grilles.
For four years, the 1968 introduced XJ was always a four-door, straight-six saloon on a 2.76 m (108.75 in) wheelbase. In 1972, a more spacious, 4-inch (10 cm) longer wheelbase (LWB) option, and a 5.3 litre V12 engine were added. On the XJ series II (from 1973), the standard wheelbase (SWB) saloons were cancelled in 1974 – but a SWB two-door (series II only) coupé was sold from 1975–1978.
The 1979 series III saloons received a redesigned greenhouse (upper body) and bumpers. The 6-cylinder series III models were replaced by the second generation Jaguar XJ in 1987, but the V12 models not until 1992.

Common 2000 Jaguar Xj6 problems
The Jaguar XJ6 2000 is a luxury car that has been known to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. One of the most common issues is with the transmission, which can experience early failure, particularly in European models. This problem can be difficult to diagnose without a comprehensive diagnostic test.
Another common issue is with the ignition coils, which can fail and cause the engine to run inadequately. This problem can occur intermittently and may not trigger the check engine light.
Coolant loss is also a common problem in the Jaguar XJ6 2000. If the coolant reservoir begins to leak, this can cause pooling underneath the engine. If the reservoir fails altogether, the resulting coolant loss can trigger the engine to overheat, leading to extensive damage.
The antilock brake system, specifically the brake pressure accumulator, has been known to fail in the Jaguar XJ6 2000. This can cause the brake pedal to go stiff, making it difficult to slow down or stop. If you hear any clicking or squealing noises coming from the front brakes, you may need to have your brake system checked.
The engine can also experience problems, such as issues with the timing chain and overheating engines. If you hear noises coming from the engine upon starting or idling, there could be a problem with the timing chain tensioner. An overheating engine can damage the cylinder bores, which can result in the vehicle using too much oil.
There have also been recalls of XJs built between 2009 and 2019 due to a misprogrammed Restraint Control Module (RCM). This can cause the airbags to not deploy in the event of a collision. Your RCM will need a software update to resolve the issue.
The rear lights on the latest version of the XJ (2010-onwards) are a very complex shape and are prone to water getting inside the lens. This leads to build up of condensation. You will need to get new seals fitted to stop any moisture getting inside the lens.
Power steering problems can also occur, with some XJs experiencing a loss of power steering and having to work harder to take a turn. This is usually due to an electrical short circuit and Jaguar should make the repair for free even if your car isn't covered by a warranty.
If your XJ was built between February and July 2014, then there's a good chance that you have leaking brake pipes. The union joints weren't tightened correctly and will need to be replaced.
In summary, the Jaguar XJ6 2000 has several common problems that owners have reported. These include issues with the transmission, ignition coils, coolant loss, antilock brake system, engine, power steering, and brake pipes. It is important to be aware of these issues and to address them promptly to prevent further damage to the vehicle.
