2011 Nissan Titan problems

nissan logo

The Nissan Titan is a full-size pickup truck manufactured in the United States for the North American market by Nissan. It was named after the Titans of Greek mythology.

First generation (A60; 2003)

Development of the Titan began in September 1999, with design work under Diane Allen. Giovanny Arroba's TA60 exterior was chosen in late 2000, with a final production freeze in July 2001. The design language of the future truck was previewed by the 2001 Alpha T concept shown at the 2001 North American International Auto Show, which had previously developed through November 2000.

Production began on September 21, 2003, and sales on December 1, 2003. The Titan used Nissan's new full-size F-Alpha platform. This new platform was shared with the Nissan Armada and Infiniti QX56 SUVs, with all three manufactured in Canton, Mississippi, United States. The first generation Titan continued without a major redesign through 2015.

Common 2011 Nissan Titan problems

The Nissan Titan, particularly the 2011 model, has faced several common problems based on complaints from its owners. These issues include fuel pump failure, transmission problems, rear-axle seal leakage, and faulty interior accessories.

  • Fuel Pump Failure: The Nissan Titan has been known to experience fuel pump failure, often caused by clogged fuel filters. This issue can lead to trouble starting the vehicle and can even damage the catalytic converter, potentially causing the engine to shut down. Drivers have reported hearing whistling sounds from the filler neck while the fuel tank is being filled, which is a common symptom of this problem.
  • Transmission Problems: Transmission issues are prevalent in the Nissan Titan, particularly in the 2016 model. Drivers have reported hard shifting, and some have been stranded due to the transmission stopping abruptly during a drive. This problem has affected a significant number of 2016 Titan owners, with no recall made to correct the issue.
  • Rear-Axle Seal Leakage: The rear axle seals in the Nissan Titan are prone to leakage, which can lead to transmission fluid leakage. This issue is often caused by a lack of ventilation or overheating. If left unchecked, excess transmission fluid leakage can cause damage to the axle bearings, differential assembly, and transmission system. It is recommended to replace the entire differential assembly to fix the issue rather than replacing only the problematic rear differential or component.
  • Faulty Interior Accessories: The Nissan Titan has faced several issues with its interior accessories. The driver and passenger seats are known to shake or separate from the seat frame after only two years of usage. The dash lights on the truck can turn dim in daylight, making it hard to tell which warning is up. Some drivers have also reported a disappearing starter button, smoke wafting out of the engine compartment, loud engine sounds, and busted nail indicators causing rod knock and other sounds coming from the engine.

These issues have contributed to the Titan's poor reliability ratings, with its reliability dropping well below average for the past five model years.

What is the most common problems with the Nissan Titan?

And let's get. Started transmission delay when starting to move forward after coming to a stop many people have noticed a sizable delay. This has led to a number of close calls when overtaking.

Do Nissan Titans have transmission problems?

These are two common Nissan Titan transmission problems, and they're caused by two separate issues. 1: Slipping on the 4-5 shift is typically caused by a failed solenoid, worn transmission bands, or using the wrong type of ATF. 2: Harsh 2-3 shifts are usually the result of a worn clutch pack.

Are there any recalls on a 2011 Nissan Titan?

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2008-2011 Titan, Frontier, Xterra, Pathfinder, Armada, and 2008-2009 Quest vehicles. The resin emblem on the driver's air bag cover may develop cracks and detach during air bag deployment.

Is the Nissan Titan a reliable vehicle?

When it comes to reliability, the Nissan Titan is leading the way compared to the Ram 1500. In fact, in 2022, J.D. Power awarded the 2022 Nissan Titan a "Great" Quality and a Reliability score of 85 out of 100.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2017-03-18
  • VIN: 1N6AA0EC7BN
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: IN 2017 AT 60,062 MILES THE TAIL PIPE CORRODED FELL OFF. A REPAIR WAS MADE AT THE EAU CLAIRE NISSAN DEALERSHIP WERE THE CUT AND CLAMPED IT BACK TOGETHER. AGAIN AS I WRITE THIS THE TAIL PIPE HAS CORRODED AND FELL OFF. I HAVE SPOKE WITH THE DEALERSHIP IN EAU CLAIRE AS WELL AS NISSAN NORTH AMERICA. CASE # 41900823. SOUNDS LIKE THEY ARE FILING A DEALERSHIP COMPLAINT BUT REAL ISSUE FALLS ON NISSAN FOR BUILDING AN INFERIOR VEHICLE. A SAFETY THREAT IS POSED WHEN THE RUSTED EXHAUST COMPONENTS FALL OFF AND BECOME ROAD HAZARDS. ADDITIONALLY, IF THE BROKEN TAILPIPE DOESN'T CLEAR THE VEHICLE IT COULD GET CAUGHT CAUSING DAMAGE TO OTHER VITAL COMPONENTS LIKE BRAKE LINES AND/TIRES IF IT HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I THINK THE EARLY FAILURE OF THE TAILPIPE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BECAUSE NOT ONLY DOES IT POSE A SAFETY THREAT, I HAVE READ THIS IS AN ISSUE AND NISAN SHOULD NOT BE PASSING THE COMPLAINTS TO ITS DEALERSHIP WHEN THIS IS A DESIGN AND/OR QUALITY OF MATERIALS USED ISSUE. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-07-19
  • VIN: 1N6BA0EC5BN
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: THE FIRST ISSUE IS THE A/C SYSTEM. WHEN THE SYSTEM IS BEING RUN ON THE MAXIMUM SETTING THERE IS A AUDIBLE TICKING SOUND. THIS SOUND HAS BEEN ATTRIBUTED TO A PART INSIDE THE AC UNIT THAT'S MADE OF PLASTIC THAT GOES BAD REALLY QUICK. THE RESULT OF THIS IS NO AC OR NO HEAT AND A VERY EXPENSIVE COST TO REPAIR. THE ENTIRE DASH HAS TO BE REMOVED TO ACCOMPLISH THE REPAIR. THE SECOND ISSUE IS THE (BCM) BODY CONTROL MODULE. THIS MODULE CONTROLS ALL THE ACCESSORY ELECTRONICS INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE (TPMS, DOOR LOCKS, HORNS, LIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, WINDOWS, TRAILER HITCH ETC.) NISSAN KNOWS THIS IS AN ISSUE BECAUSE OF THE HUNDREDS OF POST ONLINE ABOUT VARIOUS MODELS OF THEIR VEHICLES WITH BCM ISSUES. HOWEVER THEY HAVE NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM. THERE ARE HUNDREDS MANY THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES THAT DON'T HAVE WORKING ELECTRONICS BECAUSE NISSAN HASN'T DONE A RECALL AND THE PARTS OF TOO EXPENSIVE FOR THE CUSTOMERS TO FIX. MY VEHICLE IS A 2011 WITH 58000 MILES AND NONE OF THE DOOR LOCKS WORK WHEN TRYING TO USE THE KEY FOB. THE TPMS COMES AND GOES WHENEVER IT WANTS TO. I'VE HAD THE SYSTEM REPROGRAMMED AND THE ISSUES STILL REMAIN.

SEAT BELTS,TIRES,EQUIPMENT,CHILD SEAT,EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2011-11-20
  • Components: SEAT BELTS,TIRES,EQUIPMENT,CHILD SEAT,EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY
  • Summary: (1) I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SEATBELTS IN THE BACK SEAT OF MY 2011 NISSAN TITAN. THEY TIGHTEN UP ON THE OCCUPANTS AND I HAVE TO STOP MY TRUCK IN ORDER TO RELEASE THEM, BUT THEN THEY TIGHTEN UP AGAIN. A SWITCH FOR ADULTS OR CHILDREN MAY FIX THE PROBLEM. (2) AS WELL, THE FRONT FLOOR MATS THAT WERE INSTALLED AT THE DEALER MALFUNCTIONED. THE DRIVER'S FLOOR MAT HAD ONE HOLE FOR RESTRAINT AND IT SHOULD HAVE HAD TWO HOLES. THE FLOOR MAT CAUGHT UP IN THE ACCELERATOR AT A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 50 KPH AND THE ENGINE REVVED WIDE OPEN. I HAD TO IMMEDIATELY PUT THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL AND SHUT IT OFF. THAT LEFT ME WITH NO POWER STEERING AND I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO GET THE TRUCK TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP HAS SINCE REPLACED THE FRONT FLOOR MATS AND THE PROBEM IS SOLVED. OWNERS OF THE NISSAN TITANS SHOULD MAKE SURE THAT THE PROPER FLOOR MATS ARE INSTALLED IN THEIR TRUCKS PRIOR TO DRIVING THEM. (3) THESE TRUCKS SHOULD NOT BE DELIVERED WITH A P TIRE ON THEM. AT THE VERY LEAST THEY SHOULD HAVE AN LT TIRE. I HAVE HAD THREE FLAT TIRES ON MY TRUCK IN 5 MONTHS AND IT IS NOT USED ON CONSTRUCTION SITES AT ALL. *TR

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2011-07-10
  • VIN: 1N6BA06B66N
  • Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
  • Summary: ON 09/07/2010, I TOOK MY 2006 NISSAN TITAN TO FOR A SAFETY RECALL ON THE FUEL TANK. OWNER NOTIFICATION R1010 10V-074. THE TANK WAS REMOVED FROM THE TRUCK AND THE SENDING UNIT WAS REPLACED. AT THE TIME, THE VEHICLE HAD 9976 MILES ON IT. ON 07/10/2011, APPROXIMATELY TEN MONTHS LATER, THE VEHICLE HAD 10826 MILE ON IT. I HAD ONLY DRIVEN THIS VEHICLE 850 MILES SINCE THE TANK WAS REMOVED. ON THIS DATE WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, I HEARD THE SOUND OF SOMETHING THAT MADE ONE TAP UNDER THE FLOOR BOARD OF THE TRUCK. THE INTERIOR OF THE TRUCK IMMEDIATELY FILLED WITH THE SMELL OF GASOLINE. AT THAT MOMENT THE ENGINE LOST ALL POWER. I WAS FORCED TO PULL OFF ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. WHEN WE EXITED THE TRUCK, WE NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A LARGE POOL OF GASOLINE ON THE GROUND THAT CAME FROM THE TOP OF THE TANK. I WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE PROBLEM ON MY OWN BECAUSE OF THE TRAFFIC PASSING ME AT SEVENTY PLUS MPH. I ASSUMED THE GAS LINE HAD BECOME DISCONNECTED FROM THE TANK, BECAUSE WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE, IT STARTED PUMPING GASOLINE FROM THE TOP OF THE TANK. I CALLED A TOWING SERVICE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A SAFE LOCATION WHERE I COULD VERIFY THE PROBLEM SAFELY. THE HOSE LINE WAS DISCONNECTED FROM THE TANK. AFTER RECONNECTING THE LINE TO THE TANK, THE VEHICLE NOW RUNS PROPERLY. I FEEL THAT THE PERSON THAT DID THE RECALL WORK DIDN'T SNAP THE HOSE CONNECTION ONTO THE TANK SECURLY. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE TRUCK TO EVEN HAVE STARTED IF THE FITTING WASN'T ATTACHED SECURLY, BECAUSE IT WAS A PRESSUREIZED SYSTEM AND THE COMPUTER WOULD NOT HAVE ALLOWED THE ENGING TO START HE REFUSED TO PAY MY TOWING BILL OF $85.00, BECAUSE HE SAID, "YOU SHOULD HAVE HAD IT TOWED HERE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THAT WAY WE COULD HAVE CHECKED TO SEE IF IT WAS SOMETHING WE DID WRONG." NEEDLESS TO SAY, WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED BECAUSE THE HOSE WAS IMPROPERLY CONNECTED. • VIN: 1N6AA0ED1BN
  • Components: SEAT BELTS
  • Summary: THE REAR SEATBELTS ON MY 2011 NISSAN TITAN CREW CAB LOCK UP WHILE THERE IS PASSENGERS IN THE REAR SEAT. THEY ARE CAUSING THEM TO BECOME SO UNCOMFORTABLE THAT I HAVE TO STOP AND LET THEM RESET THE BELTS, UNBUCKLING AND RELATCHING. THIS WORKS FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THE PROCEDURE STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN. THE NISSAN DEALER SAID THEY CANNOT REPAIR THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALER SAID "THIS IS FOR CHILD SEAT RESTRAINTS". I'M CARRYING ADULTS, NOT CHILDREN AND THESE ADULTS ARE VERY UNCOMFORTABLE TO CONTINUE ON WITH THIS ISSUE. *TR

Negative 2011 Nissan Titan car reviews

  1. Jaiden Price 2024-04-04

I purchased my Nissan PRO4X super duper four wheel drive in December 2010 to use on my farm. Unfortunately, after 8 months and 22,000 miles, I experienced some issues with the front end suspension, interior, and radiator mounts. Despite these challenges, I am hopeful that the dealership will be able to assist me with these concerns. I have heard mixed reviews from other owners in my small town, but I am confident that Nissan will stand behind their product and provide the necessary support. While the trade-in value has decreased, I am still considering my options and hope to find a solution that works for me. Thank you for your understanding.

  2. Celestino McKenzie 2024-01-23

After many trips to the dealer for a/c defrost repairs, the issue still persists. Additionally, the sun roof works intermittently. Based on my experience, I would not recommend purchasing this truck due to the numerous problems. There are too many issues to list.

Positive 2011 Nissan Titan car reviews

  1. Brendon Kunze 2024-11-28

Pros: Interior space, reliability, and V8 rumble. Cons: Gas mileage is scary, A/C is weak, and acceleration without a tune is sub-par.

  2. Garfield Ullrich 2024-11-21

It's great to hear that it lived up to your expectations!

  3. Adalberto Morissette 2024-11-09

Hey there! I wanted to share that I recently purchased my second Titan on Saturday. I decided to trade in my 2006 Titan SE for a loaded LE with Technology Package. I looked at every full-size truck before making my decision, but the Nissan Titan was the perfect fit for me. Even though I wanted to buy American, I just couldn't find a truck that I liked as much as the Titan. The fact that it's made in Tennessee is just the cherry on top! Also, Nissan is currently offering some amazing incentives that make the Titan unbeatable. Have you considered checking it out?

  4. Zander Kuphal 2024-10-14

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with the Titan. After my 2005 Titan XE hit 135000, I decided to upgrade to luxury and take advantage of the sale tax credit. I must say, the Titan drives better than any truck on the market right now, including the new Ram. The power is phenomenal, and with about $1500 aftermarket upgrade, you'd have a monster in your hands to play with. I chose the 4X2 model for performance reasons. My last Titan gave me 19-20 MPG at 70-75 MPH. This one has yielded 17 so far due to the 20

  5. Alf Ferry 2024-10-03

As a former Chevy enthusiast, I initially overlooked the Titan due to its age. However, after test driving and comparing it to other models, it became clear that it was the best choice for the money. While the Ford F150 and Toyota Tundra Platinum 4x4 were both impressive, the new Dodge had the best ride. Despite initial doubts about Dodge building a truck for Nissan, the 2010 Titan has proven to be a keeper with its excellent build quality, smooth handling, and no buyer's remorse.
