Nissan Altima 2005 problems
The Nissan Altima is a mid-size car manufactured by Nissan since 1992. It is a continuation of the Nissan Bluebird line, which began in 1955.
The Altima has historically been larger, more powerful, and more luxurious than the Nissan Sentra but less so than the Nissan Maxima. The first through fourth-generation cars were manufactured exclusively in the United States and officially sold in North and South America, along with the Middle East and Australia. For other markets, Nissan sold a related mid-size sedan called the Nissan Teana which was between the Altima and Maxima in terms of size. In 2013, the Teana became a rebadged version of the fifth-generation Altima.
The name "Altima" was originally applied to a top trim line of the Nissan Leopard for the Japanese market in 1986, and then to the Nissan Laurel mid-size car sold in Central America and the Caribbean before 1992. In 1992, Nissan discontinued the Stanza which was a Nissan Bluebird clone, replacing it with the US-built Altima, while remaining a compact car. The first Altima was produced in June 1992, as a 1993 model. All Altima models for the North American market were built in Smyrna, Tennessee, until June 2004, when Nissan's Canton, Mississippi plant also began producing the model to meet high demand.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-05-11
- VIN: 1N4BL11D15C
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: The cars battery and brake lights came on while driving and then after about 10 mins my gas pedal stopped working and I almost got in a really bad car accident. If i rev the car over 3000 rpms the lights go out. So while i was cruising i had to shift to natural and rev the car and shift back to drive when i needed to go faster. I brought the car to the mechanic got a new alternator and battery. When driving it home after picking it up the same thing happened after about ten mins. When the mechanic got it back he said the alternator was dead it was only putting out 3.5 volts. He figured maybe he got a defective alternator so he replaced it again with another battery. Same thing happened for the 3rd time. He said he couldn't figure it out and recommend me to bring it to the dealership. So I did and just for them to look at your car is 150 walking in the door. I explained everything to them and told them don't tell me it's my alternator and charge me 150 for information I already know. The guy said he wouldn't and a few days later calls me and tells me it's the alternator and it would cost 1000 $ to replace it. I told him again I already changed it out 3 different times with a new battery. He told me in order for them to find the issue they would have to do the alternator first and then move on from there. So I asked him ok what's gonna be the next step after I pay a 1000s dollars for something that's not going to fix the issue. He said he couldn't tell me till they did the first step. So pretty much what I got out of it was they just want to run my pockets and get as much money as the possibly could. I asked him if he could just do what ever you would do after changing the alternator and he told me nope. Also I believe this should be a recall because when I look up forms online a ton of people have this same issue and can't get answers to fix it.

ENGINE PROBLEM

Since then, the engine light turned off bu, the problem still persists. When driving at low speeds through a city area, will cut off randomly. I have contacted Nissan regarding their recall about this exact problem of the crankshaft causing the engine to cut off but was simply told that my VIN number does not qualify under the recall even though it is exactly what the recall is for. Was also told that even if I were to get it inspected and checked for the problem that I would not be covered under the recall because they considered it "wear and tear." the car is only at 110000 miles and has this extremely dangerous problem, but Nissan refuses to help fix their mistake.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed reading about your Altima. It sounds like a great car! I love that it's fun to drive and has slightly aggressive lines. It's also great that it's a 4-door family sedan that can haul your grandchildren. Your teenage son has great taste - it really is the coolest car! I totally understand why you went with the 2.5l 4-cyl engine for the fuel economy. Thanks for sharing your experience with me!

If you're considering buying a Nissan, I would highly recommend going for the 3.5 engine instead of the 2.5. Unfortunately, the 2.5 engine has a known issue with a screw falling into the engine block, which can lead to the engine needing to be replaced. However, Nissan has increased the warranty on that engine to address the issue. While the fuel cost difference between the two engines is minimal, the 3.5 engine is a safer bet in the long run. It's worth noting that the catalytic converter recall is related to the screw issue. Other than the engine and oil consumption, I haven't had any problems with my car. I've put 60,000 miles on it and have only had to replace the tires and brakes. Just be sure to check the oil level regularly, as the engine tends to consume oil. Also, make sure to add 4.5qts of oil and not just 4qts, and check the oil every 1500 miles.

I think the new changes that Nissan has made to the 2005 Altima are fantastic. I love the new interior, and the smoked-out front lights are a treat to see and drive. To love this vehicle is to drive it.

I finally bought the 2005 Altima 3.5se with leather sport package, Bose stereo system, fully loaded except for Nav. It took me 8 months to decide on a car and I am so glad I bought this one. I have only positive things to say about this car. I heard some mediocre reviews, but I cannot agree. The stereo is crystal clear 99% of the time and picks up stations in L.A. which is 150 miles away! The leather is superb, and nothing feels cheap about the car. In fact, when I went test driving some B.M.W's with a friend, we both liked my Nissan better! It's roomy, sturdy, powerful, and classy. It's exactly what I wanted!

Hello! I recently had an issue with my turn signal indicators on the instrument panel. I reached out to the Nissan dealer to inquire about repairs and unfortunately, I was told that it was not a simple fix with a fuse. They explained that it was a burned-out bulb and that the entire dashboard would have to be removed, which would involve extensive labor charges. I was disappointed with this scenario, as it seemed like a lot of expense just to replace a little bulb. However, I must say that my '05 Altima has been a good car overall. It seems like the manufacturers just don't want any self-maintenance. By the way, the exterior turn signals still work. Thank you for your time and help!

I purchased the car and less than 200 miles and the transmission does not want to shift out of park, The interior brake light will only come on when the shifter wants to come out of park. The exterior brake lights come on but thats not the problem, the transmission can be released by a pushing a key into the key release slot. But its definitely a hassle to have to have to put a key in there every time to shift into a different position. And that's what the dealership told me to do.

When my family purchased our Altima, we got it for a great price of 3500 dollars. However, we soon discovered that there were some issues that needed to be addressed. My parents spent an additional 1k to fix some of the problems that arose in the first week. The O2 sensors needed to be replaced, there was a coolant leak and blockage, and the heat didn't work properly. We also experienced some other issues such as misfiring and being stranded on a busy backroad. We tried to slow the burning with stop smoke, but unfortunately, the mpg went down. Despite all of these challenges, we were able to sell the car for 1k, which was more than we expected. Although we later found out that the car had been in two accidents and had flood damage, my parents never told me or they didn't know. My sister also has an '05 Altima, which has had some issues as well. Overall, I would suggest considering other options before purchasing a Nissan.

I leased the vehicle in August 2004 after receiving an offer from Nissan for early termination of my lease on the 2001 Pathfinder. I loved that SUV, but I was also impressed with the Altima's overall design and engine performance. Unfortunately, I neglected to check the overall body frame before leasing it. In late August 2004, while slowly backing out of a parking space, I hit a low brick planter that was too low to see in the rearview mirror. The cost to replace the molded bumper was $542.00. I used a magnet to check the body and found that the hood and trunk were molded, not metal. This raised concerns about the safety of driving a car whose body is not 100% metal.

Just a heads up, I wanted to share my experience with my Altima. I had some issues with it after the third year, including the crank shift sensor being replaced three times, and the fuel pump being replaced twice. I also had to replace the rotors on the back brakes at 42,000 miles and went through two sets of tires. It seems like this has been a common issue for many Altima owners. Unfortunately, I've decided to trade it in this weekend as I've heard that the catalytic converter and transmission may be the next things to go. This was my first Nissan and I'm not sure if I'll be getting another one, but I hope this information helps you make an informed decision.

I purchased my car in September 2004, but unfortunately, two weeks later I discovered that it was leaking oil. My garage floor was covered in oil and when I checked the dipstick, it was below the low mark. I decided to tow the car to the dealership, but unfortunately, my experience with them was not very pleasant. They did not provide the level of customer service that I was hoping for. After speaking with the GM of the dealership, it took them three days to fix the leak. Although it was frustrating, I am glad that the issue was resolved. While I am disappointed with my experience, I hope that the dealership can improve their customer service in the future. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
