2012 Nissan Juke problems
The Nissan Juke (Japanese: 日産・ジューク, Hepburn: Nissan Jūku) is a subcompact crossover SUV (B-segment) produced by the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan since 2010. Debuted as a production vehicle at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show in March, it was introduced to North America at the 2010 New York International Auto Show to be sold for the 2011 model year, and it currently slots below the compact Qashqai.
The second-generation model was revealed for the European market in September 2019, offering larger dimensions by utilising the newer Renault–Nissan CMF-B platform. The second generation marks the withdrawal of the model from most markets outside Europe and Australasia to make way for the Nissan Kicks.
The name "juke" means to "dance or change directions demonstrating agility", and is also derived from the word "jukebox".

Common 2012 Nissan Juke problems
Based on the complaints from owners of the 2012 Nissan Juke, several common problems have been reported:
- Engine Failure: Owners have experienced engine failure, particularly related to the timing chain, which can lead to significant engine damage if not addressed promptly. This issue has been reported at relatively low mileage, such as around 70,000 miles for the 2011 model year and around 8,500 miles for the 2014 model year. The problem is often identified by unusual noises, the check engine light illuminating, and issues with the timing chain damaging the engine.
- Transmission Problems: Some owners have reported issues with the continuously variable transmission (CVT) of the Nissan Juke. Problems include whining noises, slipping gears, and complete transmission failure. These issues can significantly impact the driving experience and reliability of the vehicle.
- Electrical Faults: The Nissan Juke's complex electrical system has been prone to faults, especially in older models. Common issues include problems with central locking, windows, and dashboard displays. Electrical malfunctions can lead to safety concerns and affect the overall functionality of the vehicle.
- Suspension Issues: The firm and sporty suspension of the Juke, while enhancing performance, can make the vehicle susceptible to wear and tear, especially if driven on rough or poorly maintained roads. Suspension problems can impact the ride quality, handling, and overall driving experience.
- Fuel System Problems: Some Nissan Juke models have encountered issues with the fuel system, particularly related to fuel injectors and the fuel pump. These problems can result in power loss, reduced fuel economy, and potentially affect the vehicle's performance and reliability.
- Rust: The Nissan Juke has been known to be prone to rust, especially around the wheel arches and the bottoms of the doors. Rust can be a costly issue to address and may impact the structural integrity and aesthetics of the vehicle.
These common problems reported by owners of the 2012 Nissan Juke highlight important areas of concern that potential buyers should be aware of before purchasing this vehicle. Regular maintenance, thorough inspections, and addressing issues promptly can help mitigate these problems and ensure a more reliable ownership experience.

Summary: NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011-2012 JUKE, INFINITI QX AND INFINITI M VEHICLES. THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSORS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN TIGHTENED TO THE CORRECT SPECIFICATION. AS A RESULT, THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR MAY LOOSEN DUE TO HEAT AND VIBRATION CAUSING FUEL TO LEAK.
What is the most common problem with Nissan Juke?
The main issue is with the CVT gearbox fitted to the 1.6 petrol models; it has a poor reliability record, not least because repairs generally aren't possible and thus the entire gearbox tends to need replacing. Nissan has contributed to the cost in some cases.

The longevity of a Nissan Juke can vary depending on factors such as maintenance, driving habits, and environmental conditions. On average, a well-maintained Nissan Juke can last for upwards of 150,000 to 200,000 miles or more.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-01-01
- VIN: JN8AF5MV9CT
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I have a 2012 Nissan Juke and every one of the door lock actuators has had to be replaced. The problems started early on, but the door locks intermittently fail when using the key fob or external door button. Using the internal door lock button is more likely to work even when the key fob and external button fail. Because the failures are intermittent, it is hard to get this diagnosed and replaced at the dealerships. I have had to take the car to the dealership many times, pay a $200 diagnostic fee and then sometimes they replace the door actuator and sometimes do not. Over the past 4 years I have replaced 3 of 4 door actuators and will be replacing the 4th door actuator now. I contacted Nissan Consumer Affairs regarding the issue, as it is a known issue, but they refused to assist because the car is no longer under warranty.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-01
- VIN: JN8AF5MV9CT
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Timing chain needs replacement however the timing chain was already replaced in 2014 under Nissan recall NTB14-030c campaign P4213. This car has 54,000 miles on it and has been serviced at Nissan dealerships according to the Nissan service schedule. There is no reason for this part to need replacing again after so few miles unless the Nissan part was bad, there is an underlying manufacturing issue with the vehicle or the recall replacement was done incorrectly. Nissan Consumer Affairs refuses to assist because the car is out of warranty.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

STEERING,SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-12
- VIN: JN8AF5MVXCT
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Sept 2022 i bought my 2012 Nissan Juke from Jeff Wyler’s Nissan King AutoMall. April 23 the left, lower ball joint/axle (drivers side) broke. Needed fixed. Almost $2,000. I specifically asked them to check right sided ball joint/axle. Oh it’s fine. We checked it out and it’s all good. Less than 3 months later-the right sided axle and ball joint broke. It only took over 6 weeks and 3 different places (discount tires, tire discounters and Jeff Wyler’s dealership) to figure out what was wrong with my vehicle at this time. This time it cost me more (but since jeff wylers mechanics fix things and then jack up the price by $800) it actually cost me $1550 to fix it this time.I could have died. On both occasions and now it feels like the backend of my juke is shaking apart. I’m scared to death to drive my vehicle and I’ve told Jeff Wyler I think they sold me an unsafe vehicle and I am now terrified to drive it. But it’s the only car we have in our family and I can’t afford to buy another one. You have no idea as to how terrified I am to drive my car now; especially with that rear end shaking. omg! I’ve never owned a Nissan before and this is my last I have also asked Jeff Wyler’s dealership-wouldn’t this have been caught on their inspection of selling a used car? Wouldn’t the mechanic in April seen signs/symptoms of stress on the right sided ball joint when they looked at it when they fixed the left side? How do things like this get missed? & put MY LIFE IN DANGER as well as every other person on the roads while I drove with broken axles and ball joints? How can they sell vehicles that are not safe? omg! You cannot comprehend the terrified feeling along with anxiety/nausea and just pure terror of driving a vehicle that shakes still and where I’ve had to fix 2 separate massive breakages in the driveway mechanics or frame (idk. The 2nd time it happened; I thought its a bad tire). I am now more religious and spiritual because of this. I now pray several times daily

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-09-30
- VIN: Jn8af5mv9ct
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Timing Chain: National Consumers reported my vehicle replaced the timing chain in 2018 prior to my ownership. Now it has failed again to the tune of $3K at 88K miles. The Nissan Dealership will only guarantee warranty for 1yr or 12k miles which seems sub par. How can a voluntary recall on the timing chain only be effective up to 2014 when obviously it seems to be a problem with the whole engine design. I will not drop $3k every 3-4 years to replace a part that should last longer than a belt or at the minimum of 120k miles if not the life of the car. I’m asking the National Consumers hotline to open another recall on this lemon. The additional issues are the car not starting, after replacing 2 good batteries within 2 years, an independent mechanic replace a relay between the brake and the ignition and it has worked ever since. Crossing my fingers… Also notable is the rinki-dink hood latch that quivers at high speeds. I often wonder when my hood will fly up into my windshield.

ON NOVEMBER 26, 2014 I TOOK MY 2012 JUKE TO TEMECULA NISSAN WHERE ON NOVEMBER 26, 2014 WAS TAKEN FOR SAID RECALL, AFTER 2 YEARS OF DRIVING MY CAR A SOFT CLACKING SOUND STARTED TO WHICH ON ONE OF THE OIL CHANGE ROUTINE I ASKED TEMECULA NISSAN SERVICE REPAIR PERSON TO CHECK AND HE DISMISSED IT AS NORMAL NO PROBLEM. FAST FORWARD TO AUGUST 2020, THE CLACKING SOUND IS LOUDER AND MY MOTOR IS NOT RESPONDING WHEN ACCELERATING. I ONCE AGAIN ON SEPTEMBER 3, 2020 TOOK MY CAR TO TEMECULA NISSAN FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TO REVEAL THAT IT IS IN FACT THE TIMING CHAIN WHICH IS CAUSING THE PROBLEMS AND HAS AFFECTED CAMSHAFTS AMONG OTHER THINGS THAT WILL AMOUNT TO A TOTAL OF $1,400.00 JUST TO BE ABLE TO OPEN THE MOTOR AND SEE THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE FAULTY TIMING CHAIN, NOT INCLUDE TOTAL REPARATION OF THE PROBLEM. WHEN I BROUGHT UP THE 2014 TIMING CHAIN RECALL, AT FIRST THEY DID NOT HAD ANY RECORD OF RECALLS FOR A TIMING CHAIN ON MY CAR, TO WHAT I CLAIM TO HAVE PROVE OF IT, THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN DISMISSED IT AS AN EXPIRE WARRANTY ISSUE THAT WAS FIXED FOR FREE BUT CURRENTLY OUT OF WARRANTY, I RESPONDED THAT THAT WAS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE BUT A DEFECTIVE PART RECALL, HE INSISTED THAT REGARDLESS OF BEING A RECALL ISSUE IT WAS ONCE REPAIRED AND THAT WAS IT. NOW I AM LEFT WITH AN AUTO THAT WAS PERHAPS NEVER FIXED AND WITH A LONGSTANDING RECALL PROBLEM THAT PERSIST. THE TIMING CHAIN CAUSES MY CAR TO NOT RESPOND WHEN THE ACCELERATION PEDAL IS PRESSED ON EITHER ON A FREEWAY OR ANY INTERSECTION PUTTING MY SAFETY AND MY FAMILY SAFETY AT RISK.

You've put 91k on the car now. The interior is showing a bit of age, but overall it's holding up well. The engine may not be as peppy as it once was, but let's be honest, who is as peppy as they were at our age? You haven't had any major problems, which is great. The heater can be a bit finicky though, with 60 degrees feeling too cool and 61 degrees blasting full heat. But that's been a minor issue from the start.

I can tell you that I absolutely adore my Juke! I can't think of a single negative thing to say about it. It's such a fun car to drive, and it looks absolutely amazing. I've had so many people stop me in parking lots just to take a closer look at it. It's definitely a hit with me!

I recently purchased a 2012 Juke SL. To be honest, it wasn't my first choice, but I'm really happy with my decision. It's a nimble and quick little car that handles well. The AWD is fantastic, and it performs exceptionally well in the snow, which is important to me since my previous car was totaled during a snowstorm. While I don't use the sport mode often, it's a fun feature to have. I've heard that the turbo is one of the first things to go, so I use it sparingly, but I'm not too worried since I have a warranty. I gave this car 4 stars because I wish it had Bluetooth music streaming, but it only allows for calls. However, this is easily remedied with a Bluetooth converter. Overall, I absolutely love this car. The leather seats, heated seats, backup camera, and navigation are fantastic features. I highly recommend it!

I've had my 2012 for nearly a year now. One of the main reasons I chose this car was because of its unique look and good gas mileage. While I love driving my car, I have been disappointed with the mpg. I mostly drive in town and only get about 22mpg, and on the highway, it only goes up to 24-25mpg. I would really appreciate it if someone could share some tips on how to improve my gas mileage.

Although I liked the quirky looks of the Juke, my experience with Nissan's lack of interest in safety and reliability has left me hesitant to purchase another Nissan. In 2012, I purchased my Juke new and in 2014, there was a recall to tighten the fuel pressure sensor. I took the car in for the recall and there was no charge. However, three years later, I noticed a strong smell of gasoline on startup and found out that there was another recall for the same issue. I took the car to Cerritos Nissan, hoping that Nissan would stand behind the issue that had plagued Jukes from the beginning. Unfortunately, I was told that my VIN number was not included in the latest recall and that the total cost to repair the fuel sensor would be $930. Despite communicating several times with nissanusa.com, my request was denied. Last year, I once again had a strong smell of gas on startup and found a puddle of gasoline under the car. Although it was the same issue as the previous two recalls, I was told that the cost had gone up to around $1,400. As a result, I lost all trust in Nissan and their mechanics. However, I found a reliable and honest service at GT Imports in Riverside CA, where I personally know the owner and several of the mechanics who stand behind their service.Their charge was $600 less than the same service as Cerritos Nissan. After the repair, GT Imports has messaged and called me several times to make sure that everything went well. This level of customer service is truly appreciated. In contrast, I did not receive any follow-up from Cerritos Nissan. It's unfortunate that Nissan has not taken responsibility for the chronic problem with the fuel sensor of the 2012 Nissan Juke. It would be great to see Nissan stand behind their product.

I'm currently replacing the fourth brake switch, and unfortunately, this car has left me stranded four times already. On top of that, the electric locks have stopped working again, and the gas mileage is not great. It's frustrating, to say the least. This Juke has been a bit of a challenge, but I'm determined to get it running smoothly.

I came across other reviews that mentioned poor gas mileage, and unfortunately, I found this to be true as well. However, I must say that it's a fun car to drive, especially with the turbo that all models have. I did notice that there are quite a few plastic parts inside, which may not last the lifetime of the vehicle.
