nissan logo

The Nissan Juke (Japanese: 日産・ジューク, Hepburn: Nissan Jūku) is a subcompact crossover SUV (B-segment) produced by the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan since 2010. Debuted as a production vehicle at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show in March, it was introduced to North America at the 2010 New York International Auto Show to be sold for the 2011 model year, and it currently slots below the compact Qashqai.

The second-generation model was revealed for the European market in September 2019, offering larger dimensions by utilising the newer Renault–Nissan CMF-B platform. The second generation marks the withdrawal of the model from most markets outside Europe and Australasia to make way for the Nissan Kicks.

The name "juke" means to "dance or change directions demonstrating agility", and is also derived from the word "jukebox".

Common 2013 Nissan Juke problems

The Nissan Juke, a compact crossover SUV produced since 2010, has been known to have several common issues that potential buyers should be aware of, particularly when considering used models from 2013. These issues include:

  • Electrical faults: The Nissan Juke has a complex electrical system that can be prone to faults, particularly in older models. Common issues include problems with the central locking, windows, and dashboard displays . Additionally, the airbag or ABS warning lights may come on for no reason, and the air conditioning system may experience failures over time .
  • Engine problems: Some owners have reported issues with the Juke's engine, particularly with regards to the timing chain. If not replaced at the recommended intervals, the timing chain can cause the engine to fail . Turbocharged versions of the engine may also experience issues with the absolute boost pressure sensor .
  • Suspension issues: The Juke has a firm and sporty suspension, but this can make it vulnerable to wear and tear, particularly on cars that have been driven on rough or poorly maintained roads .
  • Fuel system problems: Some Juke models have had issues with the fuel system, particularly with regards to the fuel injectors and the fuel pump. This can cause a loss of power and reduced fuel economy .
  • Rust: The Juke is known to be prone to rust, particularly around the wheel arches and the bottoms of the doors. This can be an expensive issue to fix .

When considering a used Nissan Juke, it is important to have a pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic or specialist who can identify any potential issues with the car. Additionally, obtaining a vehicle history report can help to check for any past accidents or maintenance issues

. By doing your due diligence, you can minimize the risk of encountering problems with your used Nissan Juke.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-07
  • VIN: JN8AF5MV9DT
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: Smelling and leaking gas. Smell in stronger when driving the vehicle. Took it to a car shop and they stated that the fuel pressure sensor was leaking. There was a recall at one time for this and I have called the Nissan customer service and filled a claim. The Nissan makers states that they could not fix the problem due to the recall had already been fixed in 2018. Even though it has been 6 years, I think they should be liable to fix this issue. There is either something wrong with the sensors or it was not tight enough to start with.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-04-14
  • VIN: JN8AF5MRXDT
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: I am asking about the fuel system recall 12V069000 calling to tighten the fuel pressure sensor. Why has the turbo part number been rescinded a few times. Along with the TSB # NTB16-035a calling for the oil line to be replaced whenever turbocharger MX is performed. Since the recall was performed before the TSB and it required the oil one to be removed, could this have caused the faulty turbocharger. I have had one turbo charger replaced in 2019 - 5 years ago and my turbo charger went out again yesterday - 4/14/2024 at 150,000 miles. It threw a code P2263. Clearly this is a defect and beyond costing a lot of money, a safety issue.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-04-07
  • VIN: JN8AF5MV5DT
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: While driving, the turbo on the vehicle failed and caused the engine to fail, including sudden loss of an ability to accelerate. Smoke began coming from the hood in addition to horrendous sounds. There were no warning lights on my dashboard but I had begun to hear a high pitched, unusual sound. My safety and my passengers, as well as other drivers on the road were at risk due to traveling on a highway and the sudden inability to maintain speed. The dealer has confirmed the problem and multiple auto shops have confirmed this is a known problem with the vehicle year, make, and model. The car is low mileage (just over 63,000) and all have informed me that the mechanical failure is a manufacturing problem and of no fault of my own. The dealership has declined to provide any assistance due to being out of warranty, which is not the question at hand - the question is the manufacturing failure. I do not have anything in writing but could obtain from both Nissan of Richmond (dealership) and I have a case number with Nissan - #48625064.

Ran fine for another few weeks, then repeated the issue. Replaced battery with AGM battery. Started. Next day it happened again, once I got to work. Towed it home. Reprogramed keys. Nothing. Replaced starter. A few days later it started. After a month, it sputtered out after starting, then would not start (inside garage). Later that day, it started. Negative 2013 Nissan Juke car reviews

  1. Salvador Rosenbaum 2024-11-07

My daughter bought her first car from here while home from college this past summer. Unfortunately, within 30 days, on her way back to school, she experienced car trouble. After having a diagnostic done on the car, it was discovered that her transmission needed to be replaced. My husband and I went to Capital Hyundai and spoke with Rob Needham. Although we were disappointed to hear that the car was purchased 'as is', Rob was very understanding and empathetic towards our situation. We appreciate his willingness to listen and help us explore our options. While we have had issues with cars purchased from Capital Hyundai in the past, we are hopeful that we can work together to find a solution. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

  2. Frederick Schmitt 2024-09-25

I purchased my Juke second-hand from lovely sellers. Although the car had new winter studded tires and provided a secure driving experience on winter roads, the engine failed after approximately six months of use due to a failed lifter. Despite the high-pitched squeal from the air conditioner, the car's AWD system performed well. Unfortunately, the cost of a new engine is approximately 10k, which exceeds the initial purchase price of the car by 1k. However, I am confident that investing in a new engine will be worth it in the long run.

  3. Tobin Lebsack 2024-08-26

I purchased my Juke used about 8 months ago and was thrilled. I loved its unique appearance and after researching it, it appeared to be a dependable car all around. Unfortunately, I was disappointed 8 months later. The first major issue occurred not even 2 weeks after driving it off the lot when it started stalling, which turned out to be a radiator issue. The dealership was helpful in getting it taken care of and it continued to drive fine afterwards. After fixing the radiator, I noticed a slight rattle on the highway. I didn't think much of it, but it continued to worsen for a few months before I decided to get it checked out. It turned out that the axles had rapidly deteriorated and needed to be replaced, which was a hefty $1000 replacement. Not even a month later, the service engine light came on. I had the code read this morning and it turns out there is some problem that could range from as simple as a loose wire to a transmission issue that I won't be able to get checked out until Monday (It's new years eve as I write this). I really wanted to love this car, but I'm not sure if I just bought a dud or if the Juke is just not made to withstand my frequency of driving. My recommendation is to buy at your own risk. It's a cute car, without a doubt, but if you drive frequently, you might just find yourself making monthly payments via maintenance even if you paid in cash.

  4. Oscar Gislason 2024-01-14

I absolutely adore the look of the Nissan Juke! I purchased a fully equipped 2013 AWD SL just over a year ago and I couldn't be happier with my choice. The car is an absolute joy to drive and I love everything about it, from the stylish exterior to the comfortable leather/heated seats, GPS, sunroof, and more. The only downside is the limited trunk space, which can be a bit of a challenge when trying to fit larger items. Unfortunately, I recently had to have the turbo fixed, which cost around $4,000, and there still seems to be an issue with the transmission. I'm hoping it's nothing serious, but I'm not sure if it's worth investing another $4,000 to fix it. While I've never been a fan of Nissan, the Juke was the exception and I'm sad to see it discontinued. If I do end up needing a new car, I'll likely go with a Toyota or Honda due to their excellent reputation. However, given my budget, I may have to consider a Kia or Hyundai. It's a tough decision, but I'm trying to stay positive!

Positive 2013 Nissan Juke car reviews

  1. Lyric Altenwerth 2024-11-27

I'm feeling really frustrated right now. My Juke's turbo went out while still under warranty and the dealership is asking for all my service records. After calling Nissan USA and starting a case, they asked us why they needed these records. We were told that we would know something by the end of the day Monday, but unfortunately, we received a call at 4:30 telling us that it will now be Friday. It's been over a week since the car went in and my plan was to trade it in for a new Nissan as soon as it was fixed, but now I'm not sure. I've really liked my car, but I'm certainly not enjoying this problem getting dragged out like this.

I've had my 2012 Juke for 16 months and have already driven 26,000 miles! It's such a cute and sexy car, and it outperforms anything I've owned to date. I was really afraid I'd be disappointed after trading in my 2000 Wrangler, but NO WAY!! I absolutely love it!

I recently got my 2013 Nissan Juke and I'm really enjoying driving it! My odometer reading is about 700 miles but I'm already getting good mileage out of this little car. I'm averaging 32.8 mpg combined and the highest I've gotten is 34.3 mpg, which I think is pretty impressive for a turbocharged vehicle. I love the style both inside and out. It's a great little car!

Awesome little car! I absolutely adore it, that's all I can say.

Sporty, sexy, slick, and swift. What's not to love about a Juke!
