nissan logo

The Nissan Juke (Japanese: 日産・ジューク, Hepburn: Nissan Jūku) is a subcompact crossover SUV (B-segment) produced by the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan since 2010. Debuted as a production vehicle at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show in March, it was introduced to North America at the 2010 New York International Auto Show to be sold for the 2011 model year, and it currently slots below the compact Qashqai.

The second-generation model was revealed for the European market in September 2019, offering larger dimensions by utilising the newer Renault–Nissan CMF-B platform. The second generation marks the withdrawal of the model from most markets outside Europe and Australasia to make way for the Nissan Kicks.

The name "juke" means to "dance or change directions demonstrating agility", and is also derived from the word "jukebox".

Common 2014 Nissan Juke problems

The Nissan Juke, a subcompact SUV, has been known to have several common problems, particularly in the 2014 model year. The most significant issue is engine failure, which affects many owners early on. This problem is caused by a broken timing chain that damages the engine. For 2011 Nissan Jukes, this problem is covered by the TSB #SB-10055923-4231. Nissan has also released TSBs for engine-related issues on the 2014 model year, though not specifically for engine failure.

Another common problem with the Nissan Juke is transmission failure. Some owners have reported issues with the Juke's continuously variable transmission (CVT), including whining noises, slipping gears, and failure of the transmission

. This issue can be costly to repair and can make the vehicle difficult to drive.

In addition to engine and transmission problems, the Nissan Juke has also had issues with its electrical system. The Juke has a complex electrical system that can be prone to faults, particularly in older models. Common issues include problems with the central locking, windows, and dashboard displays

. These problems can be frustrating and can make the vehicle difficult to use.

The Nissan Juke's suspension is also known to have issues. The Juke has a firm and sporty suspension, but this can make it vulnerable to wear and tear, particularly on cars that have been driven on rough or poorly maintained roads

. Suspension issues can affect the vehicle's handling and can make it uncomfortable to drive.

Fuel system problems have also been reported in some Juke models. These issues can cause a loss of power and reduced fuel economy

. Rust is also a problem, particularly around the wheel arches and the bottoms of the doors

. This can be an expensive issue to fix.

To minimize the risk of encountering problems with a used Nissan Juke, it is important to have a pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic or specialist who can identify any potential issues with the car. Additionally, obtaining a vehicle history report can help to check for any past accidents or maintenance issues

The Nissan Juke is a reliable subcompact SUV with an excellent RepairPal rating of 4.0 out of 5.0. However, it is important to be aware of the common problems that have been reported in the 2014 model year, particularly engine failure and transmission failure. By doing your due diligence, you can minimize the risk of encountering problems with your used Nissan Juke.

What is the most common problem with Nissan Juke?

The main issue is with the CVT gearbox fitted to the 1.6 petrol models; it has a poor reliability record, not least because repairs generally aren't possible and thus the entire gearbox tends to need replacing. Nissan has contributed to the cost in some cases.

Is there a recall on 2014 Nissan Juke?

Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Nissan Juke, 2012-2013 Infiniti M56, QX56, and 2014-2015 Infiniti Q70 (V8 engine vehicles only), and QX80 vehicles. The fuel pressure sensors may not have been sufficiently tightened during production.

How many miles will a 2014 Nissan Juke last?

What is Nissan Juke lifespan? The estimated lifespan of a Nissan Juke is 158,000mi, before reaching the life expectancy upper limit. Fuel type is a major factor when looking into a vehicles lifespan/life expectancy.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SEATS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-03-06
  • Fire: 1
  • VIN: JN8AF5MV7ET
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SEATS
  • Summary: A couple of weeks ago on my way home from school I could smell something burning. I stopped my car and started looking around to find that the front passengers seat was smoldering and burning a hole in my backpack, toque and the seat itself. The seat warmer switch was in the off position. My dad has since disconnected the wiring to the seat warmers on both drivers and passenger sides. This seems to be a safety issue. Has there been other complaints like this for these vehicles? We have not been to the dealer, we have contacted Nissan and were told the following "Your vehicle is out of warranty and therefore is not our problem" The car has 170,000 kms on it but this is a safety issue not a warranty complaint.

First time it happened, Empire Nissan dealer said it was fine, changed the oil and sent me off. 2nd time, actual breakdown, took it to a local mechanic who said it is probably a lock up, as in Code PO774. Now at different dealer Shomp, they are diagnosing and hopefully fixing it. There is a Class Action Suit about this Juke, CVT litigation, Nissan appears to have extended the warranty.

BY THE TIME I GOT TO THE DEALERSHIP, EVERYTHING WOULD BE WORKING FINE. THEY DID A COMPUTER DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON THE ELECTRICAL/NAVIGATION SYSTEMS EACH TIME WITH NO ISSUES BEING FOUND. I REQUESTED IT TO BE DOCUMENTED EACH TIME IN THE EVENT SOMETHING HAPPENED AFTER WARRANTY ENDED. UNFORTUNATELY I DO NOT HAVE THE DATES/MILEAGE BUT SHOULD BE DOCUMENTED AT THE AFOREMENTIONED DEALERSHIP. SO THE DATES/MILEAGE STATED IS AN ESTIMATION. THE FOLLOWING IS A MORE DETAILED EXPLANATION OF WHAT/HOW THE COMPONENTS WERE AFFECTED. WHEN I'M IN AN UNKNOWN AREA, I RELY HEAVILY ON GPS IN MY CAR, WHEN IT CUTS OUT, I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT PULL OVER & WAIT IT OUT, OR HOPE TO GET CELL SERVICE & USE MY PHONE'S GPS, NOT ALWAYS AN OPTION. EACH TIME IT OCCURRED IS UNEXPECTED WITH NO APPARENT REASON. EVERY TIME IS DIFFERENT, UPON STARTING CAR, ALL ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS ARE OUT/UNUSABLE. HAPPENS WHEN CAR IS IN MOTION AT ANY SPEED. NAVIGATION SCREEN/RADIO GOES BLACK, CONTROLS UNRESPONSIVE TO ALL TOUCH/PRESSURE/TURNING/ETC. I BELIEVE IT IS A POSSIBLE LOOSE WIRE CONNECTION OR SOMETHING SIMILAR, CAUSING ALL ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS BEING RENDERED UNRESPONSIVE FOR VARIOUS LENGTHS OF TIME. FROM MOMENT OF ONSET TO THE TIME IT'S OPERATING NORMALLY VARIES FROM 30 MIN, UP TO 1-2 DAYS. COMPONENTS INCLUDED ARE NAVIGATION/RADIO SCREEN & ALL CONTROLS; ALL STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS; AC/RADIO KNOB CONTROLS; DASH/INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS GO OUT; DRIVER SIDE WINDOW/DOOR CONTROLS BECOME UNRESPONSIVE. • Summary: ELECTRICAL ISSUES BEGAN WITHIN MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING (DEC 2014). NAVIGATION SYSTEM, RADIO, INTERIOR LIGHTS ALL GO HAYWIRE UNEXPECTEDLY. RADIO//NAVIGATION COMPLETELY BLACK; INTERIOR LIGHTS EITHER STAY ON, FLICKER OR WON'T COME ON AT ALL. AFTER TAKING IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP & HAVING THEM TEST IT, THEY ALWAYS CLAIMED THEIR COMPUTERS DIDN'T CATCH ANY ISSUES. I REQUESTED THAT MY COMPLAINTS BE MARKED DOWN & SENT IN TO MANUFACTURER EVERY TIME. THAT BEGAN HAPPENING BEFORE 20,000 MILES AND CONTINUES TODAY (115,000 MILES). THE CAR HAS NEVER THROWN ANY CODES & NEVER HAD ANY CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS, OR ANY SUCH MECHANICAL ISSUE LIGHT NOTIFICATIONS COME UP ON DASH. THE CAR BEGAN LOSING POWER AROUND 75,000 MILES (OIL CHANGES, MAINTENANCE DONE ON TIME)'WHEN ACCELERATING THE CAR WOULD SKIP, JUMP OR ALMOST STALL WHENEVER TRYING TO PULL OUT IN TRAFFIC. CHANGED SPARK PLUGS AT RECOMMENDED MILEAGE (100,000), NO CHANGE. ONE DAY AFTER DRIVING TO THE GAS STATION WHICH IS 4.2 MILES FROM MY HOME & BACK HOME, WHEN MILEAGE WAS AROUND 100,000 (CONVENIENTLY IMMEDIATELY AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRES) MY CARS A/C QUIT WORKING, AND THE CAR RAN INCREDIBLY HOT (WITH ABSOLUTELY NO INDICATION OF ANY ISSUES). I NOTICED MY FEET WERE BURNING UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE DASH (WHILE DRIVING). PULLED OVER, POPPED HOOD-IMMEDIATELY SAW COOLANT RESERVOIR (PLASTIC RESERVOIR) WAS EMPTY, CHECKED OIL DIPSTICK AND NOTHING'NO OIL. 3 DAYS PRIOR TO THIS SITUATION I CHECKED FLUIDS (IN SOUTH GEORGIA DURING THE BE SUMMER IT'S INCREDIBLY HOT & I WAS TAUGHT TO KEEP AN EYE ON OIL/FLUIDS DURING EXTREMELY HOT WEATHER. I HAD AN OIL CHANGE ROUGHLY A MONTH PRIOR TO THIS SITUATION AS WELL. AFTER THIS OVERHEATING PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED, MY A/C NO LONGER COOLED. RECHARGING DID NOTHING'DUE TO THE PERFECT TIMING OF THE WARRANTY EXPIRING THAT LEFT ME WITH NO ALTERNATIVE OTHER THAN ACCEPT MY FATE & THE UNBEARABLE GEORGIA HEAT.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-09-06
  • VIN: JN8DF5MV3ET
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: I DRIVE A LOT. I NOTICED THAT WHEN DRIVING ON HOT DAYS 80+ ON LONG DRIVES 1 HOUR+ ON THE INTERSTATE, MY CARS POWER AND RPMS BASICALLY SHUT DOWN. THIS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES STARTING AROUND 50K MILES. THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATED AND PUT THE CAR INTO A SAFETY MODE. THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATED DUE TO A MANUFACTURING ISSUE. THAT WOULD BE, NISSAN FAILING TO PROPER EQUIP THE COOLANT SYSTEM ON THE TRANSMISSION. THIS FAILURE IN SAFELY MANUFACTURING THE TRANSMISSION TO RUN PROPERLY HAS REQUIRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS FOR ME TO PULL OVER ON THE INTERSTATE, TURN MY CAR OFF, AND WAIT 20 MINUTES OR MORE FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO COOL DOWN. THIS ONLY HAPPENS ON LONG DRIVES ON HOT DAYS WHERE MY PERSONAL SAFETY IS HIGHER RISKED.

STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-04-29
  • VIN: JN8AF5MR4ET
  • Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: VEHICLE HAS JUST OVER 25000 MILES. WHEN TURNING AT LOW SPEEDS AND A COUPLE TIMES WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT AT LOW SPEEDS THERE IS A CLUNKING/CLICKING NOISE. IT SEEMS TO DO IT MOSTLY WHILE BRAKING. I'M THINKING EITHER THE TIE ROD ENDS OR MAYBE CV AXLE. I DON'T THINK A VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 75,000 MILES SHOULD HAVE FAILING SUSPENSION PARTS. THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM/RADIO SCREEN HAS GONE BLACK A COUPLE TIMES WITH NO COMMUNICATION FROM ANY BUTTONS. I COULDN'T TURN IT ON OR OFF, OR OPERATE ANY RADIO STATIONS. I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY TERMINALS FOR A COUPLE MINUTES AND THAT SEEMED TO FIX THE PROBLEM FOR NOW. ALSO, THE STEERING WHEEL BUTTONS TO CHANGE THE STATION/VOLUME SEEM TO WORK ONLY WHEN THEY WANT TO. AND THE VOLUME WILL SOMETIMES ERRATICALLY TURN EXTREMELY LOUD OR LOW WITH THE SLIGHTEST TURN OR THE KNOB/ONE OR TWO PUSHES OF THE BUTTON ON THE STEERING WHEEL. WHEN PARKED/AT LOW SPEEDS, OPERATING THE WINDOWS WILL CAUSE A DROP IN RPMS. THE AUTO UP FOR THE DRIVER WINDOW NO LONGER WORKS, WHILE THE AUTO DOWN STILL DOES. THE CAR IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION NISMO. IT HAS LOW MILES FOR THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE. I SHOULDN'T BE HAVING ELECTRICAL AND SUSPENSION ISSUES AT THE MILEAGE/AGE OF THE VEHICLE. I'VE READ THAT MULTIPLE PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE NAV SCREEN. ALSO, I'VE READ MULTIPLE PEOPLE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE WINDOWS CAUSING RPM TO DROP. I HAVEN'T LOOKED INTO THE CLUNKING NOISE MUCH YET, BUT I'M SURE THERE ARE PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE AS I AM. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. I TRUST NISSANS BRAND AND KNOW THEY ARE EXCELLENT CARS THAT CAN BE DRIVEN FOR MANY YEARS AND MILES. IF YOU COULD PLEASE LOOK INTO THESE ISSUES AND FIND A SOLUTION IT WOULD MAKE MANY PEOPLE WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL BE MORE COMFORTABLE IN THEIR CARS AND HAVE FAITH THAT THEY AREN'T GOING TO BREAK DOWN/ HAVE TO DUMP LOADS OF UNNECESSARY MONEY INTO IT.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-04-25
  • VIN: JN8AF5MR7ET
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: I LIVE IN ARIZONA; IT IS END OF APRIL AND YESTERDAY TEMPERATURES WERE 99-100 DEGREES. COMING BACK FROM PHOENIX ON HIGHWAY GOING 75MPH, RPM WAS AT 4000; ENGINE REVVING HIGH AND WOULD NOT COME DOWN- VERY LOUD AND NOISY. UPON GOING UP HILL, CAR STARTED TO AUTOMATICALLY SLOW DOWN ON ITS OWN, FIRST TO 40 MPH, THEN TO 25MPH. AT THIS POINT I PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER AS MY CAR CONTINUED TO SLOW TO 20 MPH. ALL OF THIS WHILE MY FOOT WAS PRESSED COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR OF THE GAS PEDAL! ABSOLUTELY NO POWER! SAT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR A FEW MINUTES BUT KEPT ENGINE RUNNING. ONCE I STARTED ON THE ROAD AGAIN, TRANY SEEMED TO "KICK IN" AND I WAS ABLE TO GO 40 MPH IN A MATTER OF MINUTES WITH REGULAR RPM AND NO NOISE. I STOPPED AT THE GAS STATION 3 MILES AHEAD AND LET THE VEHICLE REST FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE FIRST TIME WAS 7 MONTHS PRIOR IN THE HOTTER MONTH OF SEPTEMBER IN ARIZONA WHERE TEMPERATURES REACH WELL INTO 110. SAME SCENERIO OF TRAVELING LONG DISTANCE- 75-80 MILES, PUSHING THE VEHICLE TO 75MPH ON FREEWAY, GAS PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND LOSING POWER. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS FRIGHTENING BECAUSE I WAS ON BUSY FREEWAY, LOTS OF TRAFFIC, AND SUDDENLY NO POWER WITH VEHICLE DECELERATING TO 60, THEN 50MPH WITH KIDS IN THE CAR. PROBLEM RESOLVED WHEN I GOT OFF FREEWAY AND LET THE CAR REST. BOTH TIMES THERE WAS NO ENGINE LIGHT. YESTERDAY WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, THEY WERE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THIS PROBLEM. WHEN I CAME HOME I GOOGLED MY SCENERIO AND DISCOVERED THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AMONG NISSAN OWNERS WITH CVT TRANSMISSION. WHY IS THERE NOT A RECALL OR BULLETIN ON THIS WITH A FIX??

Negative 2014 Nissan Juke car reviews

  1. Roel Pfeffer 2025-01-01

Nissan's CVT transmissions have been a source of frustration for many customers, including myself. Despite having to replace mine at the dealership under 100,000 miles due to overheating and lack of horsepower, the issue resurfaced after only 30,000 miles, resulting in another costly $300.00 flush. When I contacted Nissan, their response was a list of information that did not pertain to my vehicle and a request to return to the dealership. However, I remain confident that Nissan will address this issue and provide a satisfactory solution for their customers.

  2. Darius Friesen 2024-05-04

I wanted to share my experience with this vehicle. While it has a great selection of colors, I found it to be unreliable and unsafe. Unfortunately, I had to replace the tires before I even reached 15000 miles, and the windows are quite fragile. I also had an issue with the windshield, which had to be replaced. Additionally, the gas mileage is not great. I hope this information helps others make an informed decision when considering this vehicle.

  3. Alexis Dickens 2024-03-15

I purchased my Juke used about 8 months ago and was thrilled. I loved its unique appearance and after researching it, it appeared to be a dependable car all around. Unfortunately, I was disappointed 8 months later. The first major issue occurred not even 2 weeks after driving it off the lot when it started stalling, which turned out to be a radiator issue. The dealership was helpful in getting it taken care of and it continued to drive fine afterwards. After fixing the radiator, I noticed a slight rattle on the highway. I didn't think much of it, but it continued to worsen for a few months before I decided to get it checked out. It turned out that the axles had rapidly deteriorated and needed to be replaced, which was a hefty $1000 replacement. Not even a month later, the service engine light came on. I had the code read this morning and it turns out there is some problem that could range from as simple as a loose wire to a transmission issue that I won't be able to get checked out until Monday (It's new years eve as I write this). I really wanted to love this car, but I'm not sure if I just bought a dud or if the Juke is just not made to withstand my frequency of driving. My recommendation is to buy at your own risk. It's a cute car, without a doubt, but if you drive frequently, you might just find yourself making monthly payments via maintenance even if you paid in cash.

  4. Josh McDermott 2024-02-23

My daughter bought her first car from here while home from college this past summer. Unfortunately, within 30 days, on her way back to school, she experienced car trouble. After having a diagnostic done on the car, it was discovered that her transmission needed to be replaced. My husband and I went to Capital Hyundai and spoke with Rob Needham. Although we were disappointed to hear that the car was purchased 'as is', Rob was very understanding and empathetic towards our situation. We appreciate his willingness to listen and help us explore our options. While we have had issues with cars purchased from Capital Hyundai in the past, we are hopeful that we can work together to find a solution. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

I purchased my Juke second-hand from lovely sellers. Although the car had new winter studded tires and provided a secure driving experience on winter roads, the engine failed after approximately six months of use due to a failed lifter. Despite the high-pitched squeal from the air conditioner, the car's AWD system performed well. Unfortunately, the cost of a new engine is approximately 10k, which exceeds the initial purchase price of the car by 1k. However, I am confident that investing in a new engine will be worth it in the long run.

I bought a 2013 Nissan Juke SV yesterday and I'm still getting used to all the modern equipment in the car. But I'm really excited about my purchase! Nissan was fantastic and very supportive throughout the sale.

The fuel tank may be small and the mileage may be mediocre, but don't worry, you'll only have to fill up every 230 miles with premium fuel!

The Amanual Juke is an absolute blast to drive! The clutch, shift linkage, and synchos are top-notch, giving the vehicle a true sports car feel. It handles really well, with only moderate lean on aggressive cornering for a CUV, and the steering is quick and precise. The brakes also have a great feel. While there isn't much cargo area with the seat up, it's easy to quickly fold the seat down for normal Home Depot and Costco runs. If you need to haul larger items like a 4x8 sheet of plywood or an XMAS tree, a truck would be a better option. I was looking for a sporty driving vehicle with a little cargo capability (our BMW Convertible is no help there), and the little Juke is perfect for me. I definitely didn't want a CVT, as it would spoil the Juke's character.

It was quicker than I had thought. Although I would have preferred a manual, I still enjoy driving it. The 1.6 engine is faster than the 2.5 Altima. What a bummer about the CVTs!

I've had my 2012 Juke for 16 months and have already driven 26,000 miles! It's such a cute and sexy car, and it outperforms anything I've owned to date. I was really afraid I'd be disappointed after trading in my 2000 Wrangler, but NO WAY!! I absolutely love it!
