The Mitsubishi Outlander (Japanese: 三菱・アウトランダー, Hepburn: Mitsubishi Autorandā) is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors since 2001. It was originally known as the Mitsubishi Airtrek (Japanese: 三菱・エアトレック, Hepburn: Mitsubishi Eatorekku) when it was introduced in Japan.

The original Airtrek name was chosen to "describe the vehicle's ability to transport its passengers on adventure-packed journeys in a 'free-as-a-bird' manner", and was "coined from Air and Trek to express the idea of footloose, adventure-filled motoring pleasure." The Outlander nameplate which replaced it evoked a "feeling of journeying to distant, unexplored lands in search of adventure."

The second generation of the vehicle was introduced in 2006 and all markets including Japan adopted the Outlander name, although production of the older version continued in parallel. It was built on the company's GS platform, and used various engines developed by Mitsubishi, Volkswagen, and PSA Peugeot Citroën. PSA's Citroën C-Crosser and Peugeot 4007, which were manufactured by Mitsubishi in Japan, are badge engineered versions of the second generation Outlander. Global sales achieved the 1.5 million unit milestone in October 2016, 15 years after its market launch.

As part of the third generation line-up, Mitsubishi launched in January 2013 a plug-in hybrid model called Outlander PHEV. As of January 2022, global sales totaled about 300,000 units, and according to JATO Dynamics, the Outlander PHEV is the world's all-time best selling plug-in hybrid since December 2018. As of 2019, Europe is the leading market with over 126,000 units sold through January 2019, and the Outlander plug-in hybrid listed as Europe's best-selling plug-in hybrid car for five years running, 2015 to 2019.

The fourth-generation model was released 2021. Following Mitsubishi's entry to Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi Alliance, the fourth-generation Outlander is based on the Rogue/X-Trail, which is built on the CMF-CD platform.

Negative 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander sport car reviews

I rented this vehicle for a 10-day tour of the Southwest, Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas. Unfortunately, I found that the 2.0L 148HP engine was very sluggish and always in ECO mode, making acceleration difficult. Additionally, the Android Auto connection to my phone was not very reliable and would often disconnect after a couple of hours of driving. Despite these issues, I did appreciate the blind-spot warning system, which worked well. However, the suspension was soft with some body roll, which did not inspire confidence. Overall, while I would not choose to rent or buy this vehicle again, I did find some features to be helpful.

  2. Johnathan Pfannerstill 2024-10-04

The transmission went out at 75,000 miles. I only had it for a year and a half, but I did regular maintenance.

The Mitsubishi 4-cylinder motor has a fuel consumption similar to a V6, but unfortunately lacks power. The interior is a combination of cheap plastic materials (found on the steering wheel, dash, seats, etc.) and some attention to detail, such as the shifting knob. It would be a great car if it had more power. However, the depreciation rate is high, and it may not resell well. The most annoying thing is the remote control - you need to press 'Open' twice to open the passenger's door, as pressing it once will only open the driver's door, accompanied by an annoying horn noise. Despite these issues, the Mitsubishi dealer was happy to take my old car as a trade-in. Now, I am looking for a car that I really want and will trade in my Outlander Sport (which is not very sporty).

Hey there! I just got back from a week-long trip to Seattle, WA, where I had the pleasure of driving a 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport ES as my rental car. I chose it over other options because it's not a car you see every day. While it may not be a segment leader, it definitely gets the job done. The base model I rented had a few nice touches that you might not find in other cars in this segment. The cloth seats were especially comfortable and provided plenty of cushion. The car may not be the fastest, with only 148hp in the base 2.0 engine, but it's still peppy off the line. Just be sure to have a firm grip on the steering wheel when you hit the gas, as the tires may spin a bit. The steering can be a bit loose, but it's nothing you can't get used to. Overall, the Outlander Sport ES is a reliable car that will get you where you need to go. Thanks for reading! The adjustability of the seat and steering wheel allowed me to find a comfortable driving position. Although, getting into the rear seats for elderly people can be a challenge due to the narrow gap between the lower seat cushion and the B-pillar. The ride comfort is okay, but there is a high amount of road and wind noise when driving at highway speeds. However, considering the class and price, luxury noise levels should not be expected. In terms of reliability, I gave it 4 stars because it never gave me any troubles, but I wouldn't expect much from a Mitsubishi. Their reliability isn't amazing from what I've heard. The interior is not the best quality, but it gets the job done. There is soft touch on the majority of the dash and the tops of the front doors, and there are some nice knee pads with contrast stitching that help a bit with the visual aspect. The cabin design is functional, but not exciting. If you opt for a higher trim, the leather may improve the area. In terms of safety features, there's not much to say as I luckily never crashed it. The vehicle has standard features like airbags and antilock brakes, but no pre-collision, lane keep assist, auto lights, etc. And obviously, in the base model, no fancy features like adaptive cruise or lane-centering, things that may not even be available. However, it kept me alive, so thank you Mitsubishi. The technology is basic, but it has some useful features such as automatic single-zone climate control, a 7ish” touchscreen with Bluetooth phone and audio streaming, buttons on the steering wheel for the infotainment, a 4ish” driver MID between the analog gauges, keyless entry (no push-button start), a backup camera (federally mandated so, obvi), variable intermittent windshield wipers, and a one-touch up-down driver window. Considering the price, it's not surprising that it doesn't have many features. Overall, it's a decent value for its price point. It looks like you're in the market for a new car! While this one may not be the most exciting option out there, it's definitely a reliable choice. If you're on a tight budget and need a crossover, this car will definitely get you where you need to go. Don't worry, there are plenty of other options out there if you're looking for something a bit more exciting!

This car is a 2022 model with 4400 miles on it. I purchased it in June or July of this year. Unfortunately, I have experienced some issues with the fob battery, which has had to be changed 3 times. Even after changing one of the batteries, the issue persisted. The car sometimes fails to acknowledge the ignition while I am driving or trying to start the vehicle, which can be frustrating. It has left me stranded outside of my place of employment on some occasions. The cruise control and the steering wheel call function do not work, and the radio/google maps faceplate turns black and turns the volume all the way up, which can be annoying. The heated seats also stop working after a couple of minutes, which is not ideal for me as I use them to help with my back injury. Additionally, sometimes the transmission does not upshift until I take my foot off the gas and press back again. I have taken the car to the service guys, but they were unable to identify the problem. When I went to the salesman, he offered to put me in something comparable, but his idea of comparable was a 2019 model with 40,000 miles at the same price. I am hoping that Mitsubishi will address these issues and make things right for their customers. Thank you for your attention to this matter.I recently purchased the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, but unfortunately, I have had some issues with it. The staff at the dealership seemed to be more focused on making a sale rather than providing quality customer service. Despite the warranty, the issues with the vehicle have not been resolved, and the service team was unable to identify the problem. As a result, I would not recommend purchasing this car. It's important to consider all options before making a decision. Thank you for your time.

Positive 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander sport car reviews

  1. Maxwell Keeling 2025-01-03

We have owned five Mitsubishis in the past six years and have driven over 200k miles worry-free. The quality is fantastic and rivals any other brand. The value is unbeatable, and the performance and handling are good. The fit and finish are excellent. While there are other brands with higher performance, they come at a much higher price point of $6-$8k above a Mitsubishi. I highly recommend Mitsubishi to anyone who will listen. The warranty is also awesome, and we found the LE to be a special value. Are you convinced yet? You should be! It's the best value anywhere. As of 01/01/20, it's still perfect and awesome. I highly recommend it.

Many people who are used to driving regular geared automatic cars often do not take the time to learn how to drive a fly by wire CVT system, which can lead to disappointment. However, with a little bit of practice, this system can be very rewarding. The car can achieve 0-60 mph in under 9 seconds, a feat that was only possible with sports cars 20 years ago. Additionally, it consistently gets over 30 MPG in mixed driving, thanks in part to its FWD and lighter weight. The accelerator pedal in this CVT system works differently than in a geared automatic car. Instead of controlling the engine air and fuel flow, it determines how fast you want to accelerate based on how far you press the pedal down. The engine and transmission computer work together to balance acceleration and fuel economy, resulting in a smooth and efficient ride. The car's tight suspension may make it a little jiggly, but it provides excellent feedback on poor road conditions. While it may be a little noisier than other cars, it gives a clear indication when tires are starting to hydroplane or lose traction on ice and snow, which can help prevent accidents. The seats are comfortable enough when adjusted properly, and the car has many great features, such as big mirrors, a high and visible seating position, and massive cargo space. Overall, this car is a great value for its price point, offering a more useful size than most compact cars. During the new car shortage, it was even $5K less than a comparable equipped Kia Soul, and the Mitsubishi dealer was one of the few offering it below MSRP.

  4. Adam Sipes 2024-09-14

Great warranty, good gas mileage, and fun to drive. It's solid on the road, although there is a bit more road noise than I would like.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to mention that I really like the vehicle.
