Overview
Internally codenamed JX1, the vehicle was leaked in 3D in October 2019 and officially unveiled in January 2020 as the first SUV for the Genesis brand. It is a collaborative effort between Genesis design teams in Korea, Europe, and the United States. Built on a new rear-wheel-drive architecture, the doors, hood, and tailgate are made of aluminum.
The GV80 is available with three powertrains, a turbocharged 2.5-liter unit with 304 PS (224 kW; 300 hp), a turbocharged 3.5-liter unit with 380 PS (279 kW; 375 hp), and a turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel with 278 PS (204 kW; 274 hp) horsepower, which will only be available in select markets.
It features a navigation-based smart cruise control (ASCC), remote smart parking assist, an NFC digital key, an around view monitor (AVM), 22-inch wheels, Nappa leather seating, a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment display with the 21-speaker Lexicon audio system, electric side curtains, and driver-controlled second- and third-row seating.
The safety system includes ten airbags, forward collision-avoidance assist, reverse parking collision-avoidance assist, driver attention warning, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, automatic high beam assist, and lane keep assist (LKAS).

Those same two problems were reproduced at HYUNDAI RICK CASE DAVIE FL – Official Agent even after two GENESIS FIELD SERVICE ENGINEERS changed the following parts (between May 203 and August 2023): i.JUNCTION BOX ASSY (Ref. 91950-T6032): The junction box assemble is the main fuse box on the driver’s side under the dash. ii.JUNCTION BLOCK-SUB (Ref. 91957-T6500): The junction box sub assembly is the fuse box location in the rear of the vehicle on the driver’s side. iii.AUDIO UNIT (Ref. 96560-T6600): The radio and navigation unit. iv.EXTERNAL AMP ASSY (Ref. 96370-T6700): The power amplifier for the audio unit. Timeline: On [XXX] [XXX] and [XXX] , my SUV (2021 GV80 3.5T Prestige, V6, AWD) was dropped at GENESIS official agent facility (RICK CASE DAVIE, FL) to be inspected and repaired based on the non-conformities described above. On [XXX], BBB AUTOLINE ARBITRATION rules for a REPLACEMENT that manufacturer (GMA) refused to execute. On [XXX], after arbitration, FLORIDA ATTORNEY GENERAL BOARD ordered to manufacturer (GMA) to provide a REPLACEMENT vehicle. The 40-day notice ended on [XXX]: The manufacturer still did comply with the order, and did not provide any replacement. FYI: Manufacturer did not appeal any of the arbitration decisions (BBB & FL STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL). My Lemon Car vehicle (subject of this claim) is still immobilized at the official agent (RICK CASE DAVIE, FL) since [XXX], totaling 310 days, without getting any loaner of replacement as clearly requested since [XXX] when I filled my initial claim with the MANUFACTURER (GMA). - Summary: On two occasions in the last month the car has suffered a loss of power with the accelerator unresponsive to input. After 5-10 seconds of this still actively occurring the car began to shake violently while I was trying to find a safe place to stop the car out of the traffic lanes. Within a minute or so things would go back to normal. The first time I was in a 35mph zone so the car was relatively controllable but unable to keep at speed. The second time was on the interstate at 70mph in heavy traffic. The car reacted much more dangerously at this speed. The loss of power was more severe and the violent bucking and shaking of the car was very severe. I thought parts would start falling off the car at any moment, it was that violent. With my emergency flashers on I was able to exit the interstate without accident or injury but there was a bit of luck involved. It could have just as easily gone very badly in the heavy traffic. There is an open recall on the Genesis GV80 for the fuel pump needing replaced for this exact type of occurrence. [XXX] ). While my VIN is not part of the formal recall I feel 100% certain that this is the same exact issue. Numerous others with GV80's have had and are still having the exact issue. The car was dropped at the dealer (Genesis Bedford OH) last week. They kept the car for a week but were unable to duplicate due to the randomness of the issue. They returned the car without fixing the issue. They never mentioned anything about the GV80 fuel pump issue. I have an open case ([XXX]) with Genesis but they are refusing to replace the fuel pump or rectify the issue in any way. As is noted in the recall of the fuel pump this issue does not cause any check engine lights to activate nor is Genesis storing any type of code from the issue. The recall clearly states that a car with this fuel pump issue should not be driven. Genesis is currently refusing to assist me in getting the car fixed. WHILE DRIVING, THE TAG ALSO VIBRATES. IT SEEMS TO APPEAR THAT THERE IS NOTHING SUPPORTING THIS BUMPER. THIS VEHICLE COSTS TOO MUCH FOR IT TO HAVE THIS TYPE OF DEFECT. SAFETY IS PUT AT RISK BECAUSE THE BUMPER COVER COULD POSSIBLY BLOW OFF WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHER SPEED. I HAVEN'T TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER YET BUT I WILL HAVE IT INSPECTED BY THE DEALER. - Summary: I bought my 2021 GV80 used with 15,500 miles. After driving not even 100 miles, we experienced the vehicle stalling and having no power. Giving it gas, the RPM's would not rise and the engine then shut off. The engine light briefly turned on but did not stay on. After the car shut down and turned back on, we kept driving. We took the vehicle immediately to the dealer where they proceeded to tell us there is nothing wrong because the diagnostics came back fine. But now this exact same thing has happened on 7 different occasions after driving a little over 1,000 miles. This has happened on the freeway, on busy intersections and feel unsafe to drive. On one occasion, we were almost hit from behind because we stalled making a left at a buy intersection. I took it back to a Genesis dealer and one week in their service, we were told they can't duplicate it and we should pick it up. Again, I do not feel safe driving this vehicle. There are no recalls but many complaints about this same problem and no recourse to fix this.

For GV60 owners, Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed April 14, 2023. A second notice will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 012G. This recall supersedes and expands recall number 21V-796. Vehicles previously repaired under recall 21V-796 will need to have the new remedy completed.

The 2021 GV80 2.5t Prestige is a wonderful car, although there have been a couple of minor annoyances that I have yet to address. As it is now time for its first service appointment (6k miles), I scheduled a service/ valet through the app, which was one of the major reasons I purchased the car. I received a confirmation text, but unfortunately, the service appointment time came and went with no valet. When I called the dealership, they had no record of me, even though I had provided them with all the necessary information during the purchase (I bought the car out of state and was asked which dealer would be servicing it). After providing them with the information again, I was informed that the first available appointment with valet service would not be for another month. I recently acquired my 2021 3.5T Prestige and while it's not without its flaws, it's definitely a luxurious SUV that spares me the hassle of dealing with the local Teutonic service crowd. The engine is both smooth and powerful, and interestingly enough, the manufacturer specifies that any grade of unleaded fuel can be used - the only caveat being that 'premium' fuel provides a bit more power, as stated in the manual. This vehicle is packed with tech, but the manual doesn't make it easy to understand where everything is located. Fortunately, I found a well-made consumer video on YouTube that walked me through it all, and now it's second nature. However, there are a few issues in GV80-land. The sound system (by Lexicon) sounds great, but the sub-woofers don't work and one of the tweeters doesn't tweet. The dealer will look at it next week when it goes in to have the expensive winter wheel package installed. Additionally, the Bluetooth media channel and the AM radio have poor quality sound, but I discovered that the AM radio station I listen to is available on an HD radio channel, and if I want to, I can tune it in on the Iheartradio app. Although, the latter probably would use the substandard Bluetooth connection. I will try it at some point. Lastly, I would like to suggest that if Android Auto and Apple Carplay are going to be supplied, which require special Gen 3.2 USB cables in their wired configurations, the cables should be provided with the vehicle. For my part, I am waiting to receive a wireless adapter that I've ordered which obviates the need for the cable and makes the inductive charging actually useful. It's important to remember that no tech is perfect, and that applies to the GV80 as much as anything else.As far as I can tell, there is no way to disable the crash mitigation system. Twice, the vehicle mistook shadows on the street for vehicles and initiated the 'imminent crash' protocol, beeping loudly, tightening the seat belts and mashing the brakes. The good news is that no one was tailgating me either time. Unfortunately, the manufacturer has chosen to use HD radio for their live traffic service, but there is no HD data where I live, so I don't get to see active traffic on the native navigation app. Additionally, the navigator doesn't display the names of upcoming cross streets. The former could have been dealt with by using SiriusXM for traffic the way Chrysler and Ford do, and the latter... well, there is simply no excuse. I am located in Canada, so we have fewer variations of the vehicle available, and I chose the 3.5 Prestige to get the electronic speedometer and all of the other accoutrements. The vehicle sells in Canada for $85K Canadian, and while the middle row seat isn't power (it is ventilated), and the vehicle doesn't come with smart card support or NFC locks the way it does in the US, it was a marketing decision. Another thing I noticed is that there simply isn't much in the way of storage space. My last SUV had lots of places to stuff things into, but this one doesn't even have a decent organizer for the console storage. As someone with a background in human factors engineering, I believe there are things that could be done a bit more intuitively and features that should be improved. Nothing fatal, but software is easily modified, so why not be the best that it can be?So far, I have only encountered a few minor issues with the car. While the self-parking feature is a cool gadget, it can be a bit slow to execute. Additionally, the cameras and lane-keeping technology are impressive, but they feel more like gadgets than essential features. The adaptive cruise control can be a bit problematic when the car ahead enters a curve, as it tends to speed up. However, I still find the car enjoyable to drive. If I had to make the decision again, I might have considered leasing the car and then purchasing the electric version when it becomes available. This is because the resale value of the current model may not hold up well over time. Nevertheless, I love the luxurious feel of the car, especially the Cardiff Green exterior that reminds me of my old 1972 Datsun 240Z, and the Green/Brown interior with its suede roof lining.

The car is truly impressive, with its luxurious feel, great handling, and powerful engine. However, the service experience has been disappointing. Unfortunately, there aren't enough Genesis service centers to meet the needs of their customers. We recently had an issue with our G80's air conditioner, and despite it being the middle of June, we were unable to get an appointment until the middle of July - that's over a month without air conditioning. While we love our Genesis, we do regret not investing in a BMW or Mercedes, as they have more service facilities available. It's important to consider the availability of service centers when making a car purchase, and we hope that Genesis will expand their service network in the future.

I bought the Prestige two months ago and while it's a nice car to drive, I've found the electronics and operator's handbook to be a bit of a nightmare. Whenever I want to use any of the car's functions, I have to go to YouTube for help. Last year, we purchased a Mercedes 450 GLE and found it to be a much superior vehicle. However, even with the Mercedes, we found the manuals to be a bit difficult to navigate. If you're considering purchasing a Prestige, I would recommend getting a thorough briefing from your salesperson. It's worth noting that there are many helpful resources available on YouTube to help you get the most out of your car.

The 2021 GV80 has a high pressure fuel line issue that needs to be addressed. Unfortunately, the replacement part is currently on back order with no estimated time of arrival. It is recommended to wait until the issue is resolved before purchasing this SUV.

The Genesis provides a comfortable ride, but some of the controls can be frustrating to use while driving. The screen is large, but accessing certain information can be difficult and potentially dangerous. The gas mileage is lower than expected. On the positive side, the car is spacious and has quick acceleration. However, it automatically slows down which may take some getting used to. Additionally, the tire pressure warning light is not specific and can be inaccurate. Overall, the Genesis has some room for improvement, but it still offers a pleasant driving experience.

I recently took a test ride after reading some positive Deto tic reviews. The car looks great and is quite spacious on the inside. While it does have some good features, the difference in quality compared to a Mercedes is quite evident. Unfortunately, the driving experience is not even close to that of a GLB or GLC, let alone a GLE. In terms of pricing, Genesis is not currently offering any discounts and is selling their cars at MSRP, which is why not many people are buying them. I would recommend going for a GLC with similar features at a lower price point, or paying a bit more for a GLE. Additionally, it seems that some of their salespeople may not be fully knowledgeable about Genesis' features and benefits. It's important to have a proper driving and purchasing experience before making such a high-priced investment.
