- Summary: My issues are related to the SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN 1997-2003 QX4 IN SALT STATES FRONT STRUT HOUSING CORROSION. I brought my car in for the recall at Infiniti of Bloomington, Minnesota and they only fixed the Driver’s side strut housing using a brace but only painted the Passenger’s side. Now the Passenger’s side strut housing shows corrosion and some perforation but repairable still under the recall. As of today 01/23/2023 The dealer and Infiniti refused to do recall on passenger’s side despite the car is not safe to drive. They knowingly know the passenger’s side will corrode but still let me drive the car with the defective which they refuse to fix.

I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT HE COULD NOT REPAIR IT BECAUSE IT WAS A MANUFACTURING ISSUE DUE TO A LOT OF CORROSION UNDER THE CAR AND THE WORK NEEDED TO BE DONE BY THE DEALERSHIP. TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 7/30/13, DEALERSHIP WILL NOT FIX IT, SAYS IT IS NOT A MANUFACTURING ISSUE. REWIND TO APRIL 20TH, 2011, QX4 2002 RECALLED IN A NUMBER OF STATES INCLUDING MASSACHUSETTS, ORIGINAL RECALL DATE: 4/20/11 FOR CORROSION PROBLEMS DUE TO ROAD SALT AND SNOW/WATER. THE RECALL ID STATES THE CONSEQUENCES OF THIS CORROSION WILL BE THAT "THE STRUT HOUSING MAY CRACK AND PULL AWAY FROM THE INNER HOOD LEDGE ASSEMBLY. THIS MAY LEAD TO GRINDING NOISES, INCREASED STEERING EFFORT, AND POSSIBLY STEERING COLUMN TO BREAK, RESULTING IN THE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH." BACK IN THE WINTER OF 2011-2012, TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS PART OF THE RECALL. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE CORROSION PROBLEM WAS FIXED AND THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. NOW I HAVE A DEALERSHIP THAT REFUSES RESPONSIBILITY FOR AN OUTSTANDING CORROSION PROBLEM, A CLAIM WITH INFINITI THAT IS GOING NO WHERE AND A CAR I CANNOT DRIVE BECAUSE IT CANNOT BE FIXED. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN WAS AUTHORIZED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE UNDER THE RECALL BUT ONLY FOR THE STEERING FAILURE AND NOT THE ABS SYSTEM FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED PER THE CONTACT'S REQUEST. IT WAS MAKING SQUEAKING NOISE FOR LAST SEVERAL YEARS, REPAIRED AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN BY INFINITY OF MEMPHIS, PAYING MYSELF, BUT THE NOISE WILL NOT GO AWAY, BUT WAS TOLD BY INFINITY OF MEMPHIS, NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT, AS, THEIR COMPUTER SAYS, MY CAR IS OK. WE ALWAYS TAKE OUR CAR FOR SERVICING THERE ONLY AS WE LIVE IN MEMPHIS AND THEY ARE MY DEALER. ON 2/9/2011 PM, WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT, THE STEERING DID NOT ACT RIGHT. THE CAR TURNED LEFT, HIT THE CURB, BARELY MISSING HITTING AN ON COMING VEHICLE ON MY LEFT, BURST THE LEFT FRONT TIRE SLICING SIDE OF IT ON THE EDGE OF THE CURB, HIT LEFT FRONT CORNER OF VEHICLE, POPPING UP THE LEFT FOG LIGHT, THEN ON BACKING UP, HIT THE RIGHT BACK SIDE OF THE CAR ON SOMETHING. THE TIRE WAS CHANGED TO SPARE ONE, THEN A BRAND NEW TIRE. THE INCIDENCE WAS REPORTED TO INFINITY OF MEMPHIS ON 2/10/2011 AND I DELIVERED THE CAR TO THEM . THE CAR DOES NOT RIDE WELL, MAKES THE SQUEAKING SOUND AT STEERING STILL AND DOES NOT ACT RIGHT. WE ARE A FAMILY OF PHYSICIANS, NEED DEPENDABLE CAR. THE INFINITY MAKES GREAT CARS, WE OWN ANOTHER INFINITY SEDAN ALSO. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 6 recalls for different components of the 2002 Infiniti Qx4.

- Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain air bag inflator replacement service parts that may have been installed as part of a theft or collision repair. The parts include certain passenger-side air bag inflators designed to fit Infiniti 2002-2003 QX4, 2006-2010 M35 and M45; Nissan 2001-2003 Maxima, 2002-2006 Sentra, and both driver and passenger-side inflators designed to fit 2007-2012 Versa Sedan and Versa Hatchback vehicles. Please see Nissan's recall report for the specific part numbers. These replacement inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the inflators as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 14, 2022. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669.

The vehicles are equipped with non-desiccated, frontal passenger air bag inflators containing phase stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSAN) propellant that were used as interim remedy parts for previous Takata recalls. These inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the front air bags, these inflators may rupture.
- Consequence: An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag assembly, free of charge. The recall began on March, 31, 2017. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

- Consequence: THE STRUT HOUSING MAY CRACK AND PULL AWAY FROM THE INNER HOOD LEDGE ASSEMBLY. THIS MAY LEAD TO GRINDING NOISES, INCREASED STEERING EFFORT, AND POSSIBLY THE STEERING COLUMN TO BREAK, RESULTING IN THE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
- Remedy: NISSAN WILL INSPECT THE STRUT HOUSING AND REPAIR THE VEHICLES AS NECESSARY, FREE OF CHARGE. AN INTERIM NOTIFICATION LETTER WAS SENT OUT IN MAY 2011. THE SECOND NOTICE WAS MAILED ON JULY 25, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

I recently totaled my Lexus RX300, and although it was a great car, it doesn't compare to the Qx4. This vehicle is fantastic - it's responsive, comfortable, and an absolute joy to drive. The controls for the stereo, heat and air, lights, and everything else are very easy to find and use. The backseat is spacious enough for my 5'10 little brother to sit comfortably behind me. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone! It's truly fantastic, and I'm a very picky person.

I also considered the Jeep, Yukon, and Envoy, all of which were nice, but ultimately chose the QX4 due to its expected durability. However, I did encounter some unexpected problems with the QX4. On the day of delivery, I noticed a faint vibration and hum above 30mph when in ALL MODE 4x4, which was only noticeable on smooth asphalt highways. It turned out that the front drive shaft U-joint was bad, and the roof rack also made a loud whistle. Additionally, the QX4 felt more cramped than the Jeep. While I would not pay retail for a QX4, I was able to get $6000 off sticker and 3-year, 1% financing. I highly recommend taking a long test drive and trying everything before making a decision. It's important to note that there should be no change in ride when switching to All Mode from 2WD mode. Lastly, the gas consumption is worse than the Jeep's 5.2LV8.

I hope you're doing well! I noticed that you mentioned liking the look and ride of the vehicle, but unfortunately, the repair bills were quite high. It seems like you had to replace a lot of parts, including the shocks, catalytic converters, fan motor, exhaust system, and fuel injectors. Additionally, it's a shame that the resale value and trade-in value weren't great, and the fuel mileage wasn't ideal either.

The QX4 has made some good improvements, but it still has a truck-like feel. Despite being a loyal customer who has purchased three new Infiniti vehicles from Pinnacle Infiniti of Scottsdale in the past five years, I was disappointed to find out that I had overpaid by $1,500 for my latest purchase. However, I am confident in my ability to negotiate a fair deal in the future. It's worth noting that the Navigation Systems have been upgraded from CD to DVD, with the DVD version covering both USA and Canada. If you have the CD version, it may be obsolete and require multiple CDs. While Infiniti consumer affairs may not be sympathetic to this issue, I am confident that I can find a solution that works for me.
