Common 2007 Mercury Mariner problems
The Mercury Mariner, a compact crossover SUV produced between 2005 and 2011, has received mixed reviews from owners, with a reliability rating of 3.7 out of 5.0 on RepairPal.
Steering shaft issues are a common complaint among Mercury Mariner owners. These problems may manifest as a clunking noise when going over bumps or a loose feeling in the steering
. The issue is typically caused by a worn-out u-joint in the steering shaft, located under the hood on the driver's side of the firewall
. If the u-joint has movement and the two pieces can be twisted, it may cause the noise and looseness in the steering
Power steering failure is another problem reported by Mercury Mariner owners. The most-reported problem in this category is power steering stopping to work, which has been reported primarily in 2008 models.
Transmission failure is a significant issue reported by Mercury Mariner owners. The 2006 model year has been rated as the worst for transmission problems, although the 2008 model year has the most overall complaints.
Blower motor resistor problems are also common in the Mercury Mariner. This issue may cause the vehicle's heater or air conditioning to stop working properly
. The average cost to fix this problem is $200, with an average mileage of 80,000 miles
In addition to these issues, many owners of hybrid Mercury Mariners have reported that the cooling pump failed.
Ford has issued recalls for certain model years of the Mercury Mariner, including the 2008-2011 model years for steering torque sensor issues and the 2010-2012 model years for fuel delivery module problems.
In conclusion, while the Mercury Mariner has received mixed reviews from owners, some common problems have been reported, including steering shaft issues, power steering failure, transmission failure, and blower motor problems. Ford has issued recalls for certain model years of the Mercury Mariner to address steering torque sensor and fuel delivery module issues.

I'VE SHOPPED AROUND FOR PRICES AND THE BEST I COULD FIND WAS $2200.00 FOR THE REPAIR PLUS ANOTHER $225.00 FOR A RENTAL TO USE WHILE MY CAR IS BEING REPAIRED. THE REPAIR IS GOING TO TAKE 3-5 DAYS.

THIS PATTERN CONTINUED FOR SEVERAL DAYS WHILE WE HAD OUR MARINER INSPECTED AT NUMEROUS REPAIR SHOPS; THE END RESULT WAS THAT WE HAD TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT AT A COST OF $1700. AT ONLY 111,000 MILES! ALL OF THE TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOPS THAT WE TALKED WITH STATED THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE IN THIS YEAR-MODEL FORD PRODUCT, MANY TIMES WAS FAR LESS MILEAGE THAN OURS HAD. *TR

WHEN MY HUSBAND LOOKED AT VEHICLE AND SAW WHAT IT WAS DOING, HE THINKS THE TRANSMISSION HAS GONE OUT ON IT. WE HAD DRIVEN THE VEHICLE TO CHURCH SUNDAY MORNING (SAME DAY) AND THERE WAS NO SIGNS OR SYMPTOMS OF ANY KIND OF PROBLEM. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED, AND IT HAS NOT HAD A PROBLEM EXCEPT FOR THE SHIFTER HAD TO BE REPLACED ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO...MECHANIC STATED THAT THERE HAD BEEN SOMETHING SWEET SPILLED INSIDE OF THE SHIFTER, HOWEVER, I DRIVE THE VEHICLE 99.9% OF THE TIME AND I DRINK WATER...... AFTER RESEARCHING AND READING ALL THE COMPLAINTS ON THIS VEHICLE ON THIS WEBSITE, I DO REALIZE THAT THERE IS A MANUFACTURED DEFECT IN THE TRANSMISSION AND THE SHIFTER. HOW AND WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A RECALL ON THESE VEHICLES? WHY DIDN'T SOME OF THE WARNING LIGHTS COME ON? WE ARE VERY FORTUNATE THAT THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED BEFORE NOW AND CAUSED US TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. *JS

THIS SAME PROBLEM WAS FIXED UNDER WARRANTY (20,000 ON APPROX. 03/2008). IT HAPPENED AGAIN. FORD REFUSED TO AGREE THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE DESIGN ETC. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN TRAGIC. I THINK IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE THROTTLE PROBLEM... THE CAR LIMPS JUST AS EVERYONE AS COMPLAINED ABOUT. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT WAS ACTUALLY FIXED UNDER WARRANTY AS THE PARTS MEAN NOTHING. PISTONS, GASKETS, SENSOR TURBI, HUB PLATE ASY, SEALS, AND MANY OTHER PARTS. *TR

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2010-12-28
- VIN: 4M2CU39H17K
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY AND A LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASH SAYING "STOP SAFELY NOW". I STOPPED, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, AND TURNED IT BACK ON. I TOOK IT TO A AN AUTHORIZED FORD REPAIR SHOP AND THEY SAID THEY WEREN'T SURE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. I DIDN'T HAVE ANOTHER PROBLEM FOR 9 MONTHS AND THEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED. AGAIN NO PROBLEM FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS AND THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN REPEATEDLY. AFTER PULLING OVER AND RESTARTING THE SAME PROBLEM WOULD REOCCUR ABOUT EVERY 15 MILES. I MADE IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY ARE NOW REPLACING THE COOLANT PUMP. I DID SOME READING ON-LINE AND THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH ESCAPE AND MARINER HYBRIDS. SHOULDN'T THERE BE A RECALL OF THE FAULTY PUMP? *TR
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2011-12-19
- VIN: 4M2CU97107K
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WITH 6,000 MILES ON IT. I KEPT UP MY NORMAL MAINTANCE ON THE VEHICLE AND REPLACED THINGS WHEN NEEDED. AT APPROXIMATELY 42,000 MY TRANSMISSION WOULD NO LONGER SHIFT THE GEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO WALLACE DEALERSHIP OF WHICH THEY KEPT MY VEHICLE FOR ALMOST 2 WEEKS. THEY EXPLAINED THEY DID AN OVERHAUL OF THE TRANSMISSION AND FIXED REPAIRS ON IT SO THAT THEIR WOULD BE NO FURTHER PROBLEMS WITH TRANSMISSION LATER ON DOWN THE ROAD. NOW AT 84,735 MILES LATER, I AM ONCE AGAIN HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND MY VEHICLE WILL NOT GO INTO GEAR. BECAUSE I AM OUT OF WARRANTY MY VEHICLE WILL SIT UNTIL I CAN MAKE THE REPAIRS AS A TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT IS NOT A CHEAP EXPENSE. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH IN THIS CAR AND DESERVES EXTREME PRIORITY OF INVESTIGATION ON A RECALL FOR THIS YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL OF VEHILE. I AM RECEIVING NO HELP FROM THE FORD COMPANY AND I AM FINDING IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT THAT THIS PROBLEM IN THIS VEHILCE HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED OR DEALT WITH. I HAVE HAD A PRIVATE TRANSMISSION COMPANY EXAMINE MY VEHILCE (HAS NOT TOUCHED IT), OF WHICH THEY DISCOVERED, THE INTERNAL FILTER IS CLOGGING THE CVT (CONSTANT VELOCITY TRANSMISSION) FOR WHICH SOMETHING WILL CONTINIOUSLY BREAK IN THE FILTER OR WHERE THE FILTER IS HELD CAUSING THIS TO HAPPEN. I WAS ALSO ADVISED THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD HAVE DONE MAINTANCE WISE OR PERSONAL USE OF DRIVING THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THIS TO HAPPEN. *TR

2007 Mercury Mariner recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2007 Mercury Mariner.
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:FLOOR SHIFT
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2001-2008 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner vehicles manufactured March 31, 2001, to September 1, 2009. The affected vehicles are equipped with either a 2.3L or 3.0L engine and have had their CD4E transmission replaced with remanufactured one that was rebuilt between June 11, 2015 through July 15, 2015. These service repair part transmissions have a shift lever bolt that may not be properly tightened. As a result, the shift control lever could disengage from the transmission without warning.
- Consequence: If the shift lever disengages from the transmission, a driver may be unable to shift gear positions and the indicated shift position may not represent the gear position the vehicle is in. Should a disengagement occur while the vehicle is being driven, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, the gear selection indicator may show that the transmission is in the "PARK" position, but the vehicle transmission may not actually be in the "PARK" gear position. If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the transmissions and either tighten the manual shift lever bolt or replace the manual shift lever assembly. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on October 23, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S28.
- Manufacturer: Timken Company
- Components: SUSPENSION:FRONT:WHEEL BEARING
- Summary: The Timken Company (Timken) is recalling certain aftermarket front wheel bearings, part number 510072, sold from January 22, 2015, to May 21, 2015, to be used as service parts on 2001-2012 Ford Escape, 2001-2011 Mazda Tribute, and 2005-2011 Mercury Mariner vehicles. The affected wheel bearings have incorrect dimensions of a 42mm bore, 76mm outer dimension, and 39mm width, instead of a 42mm bore, 78mm outer dimension and a 45mm width.
- Consequence: Use of an incorrectly sized wheel bearing can adversely affect the braking and steering of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Timken has begun notifying distributors who will offer purchasers replacement wheel bearings, free of charge. The recall began on May 21, 2015. Owners may contact Timken customer service at 1-866-984-6536.
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2005-2008 Ford Escape hybrid electric vehicles manufactured October 13, 2003, to June 20, 2008, and 2006-2008 Mercury Mariner hybrid electric vehicles manufactured June 10, 2005, to June 20, 2008. The coolant pump for the hybrid system may fail resulting in the hybrid electronics overheating.
- Consequence: If the hybrid electronics system overheats, it may shut down the powertrain, resulting in a stall-like condition, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the original Motor Electronics Coolant (MEC) Pump with an improved brushless pump, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on October 27, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 14S19.

I understand the desire for an SUV, but I didn't want to break the bank on gas. Plus, I was hoping to have all the fun extras like 4WD, a 6-disc CD player, leather seats, and a moonroof. That's why the Mercury Mariner is the perfect fit for me!
-
I really like this car, but I do wish the mileage was better. I've been doing a lot of driving lately and I think a hybrid would have been a better choice. I was told it would pay for itself, but unfortunately the cost of gasoline has gone up a lot since I bought this car. It gets around 20-22 mpg in town and 22-24 mpg on the road.

I've been driving a Lexus SC400 for the past eight years. However, after purchasing a home on a hill, I realized that my car wasn't practical for hauling anything for the house, and it was useless in the snow. That's why I decided to switch to an SUV. Although I was hesitant at first, I'm thrilled with my choice of the Mercury Mariner. I'm really enjoying the look and feel of the Mariner, as well as the attention to detail in both the exterior and interior. The SUV feels incredibly solid and has a smooth ride. I'm excited to see how the Mariner handles in the Seattle rain and snow.
-
After 10 years with a mini-van, I didn't want to switch to a car or a large SUV. But then I saw the Mercury Mariner and fell in love with its looks both inside and out. The solid color and chrome add a nice touch, and there's no black molding to worry about. It handles great and picks up speed nicely. The Mariner was in the right price range for me. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase so far!
-
Congratulations on your new cars! Based on your experience, it seems like the 2006 Mariner is the better choice. The electronic steering on the 2005 Equinox makes it difficult to handle, while the Mariner is a luxury car that is fun to drive. It's great to hear that the Mariner has good fuel economy and is spacious enough for your needs. Additionally, the foam inserts and gaskets in the door jambs are a nice touch to eliminate noise. Happy driving!

I love this car! I bought it fresh out of college in 2006 and I have absolutely no complaints. While it may not be the flashiest car on the road, I pat myself on the back every time I get behind the wheel. I strongly disagree with any owner that criticizes engine power because for the size and amount of money, this thing has some serious punch to it. I have driven almost 40,000 miles and have had no mechanical issues whatsoever. Overall, I rate this car as extremely dependable, practical and a great every-day ride. In fact, my best friend loved mine so much that she bought one too!

I bought this car used and was impressed with its overall style from the first sight. The car runs excellently and the sound system meets standards. However, I found the seat warmer buttons to be inconveniently placed, as the passenger seat automatically turns on when someone gets in. Additionally, the car can be quite loud and takes all bumps, big or small, very hard. Unfortunately, there seems to be no give in the suspension or shocks when riding over anything that disrupts the smoothness of the asphalt. Furthermore, it does not handle water very well and tends to hydroplane even in the smallest amount of water. I would not recommend it for any type of off-roading. Lastly, the fuel mileage is very poor.

In 2006, I leased a 2006 Mariner for my wife, hoping to find a more economical replacement for her 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. Unfortunately, the smaller sized four-cylinder SUV did not meet her expectations. She complained about the lack of power, and after driving it myself, I must admit that the engine is not powerful enough for that size/weight vehicle. Additionally, the brakes are substandard in wet conditions, and the gas tank is too small, resulting in more frequent trips to the gas station. Overall, it was not a fun vehicle to drive. This was my first and only experience with a Ford Motor Company product.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I noticed that you leased three Mercury vehicles, and I wanted to share my experience with my 2006 Mariner. Unfortunately, it hasn't been the best lease I've had in the last 10 years. Even after rotating the tires and purchasing new ones, it still felt like I was driving on snow tires. The sound was so loud that I couldn't even have a conversation. Thankfully, the rear differential was replaced under warranty. However, I did have a scary experience when the rear fell out just 15 miles after leaving the service department. I had to swerve into oncoming traffic to avoid an accident. I really hope that Ford takes these reviews seriously. Thank you for listening!

The car was great for the first 3 years, but unfortunately at 78,000 miles, the front and rear differential went out, the rear main oil seal was leaking, the exhaust manifold was leaking, and an a/c line was leaking. After spending $4800.00, it seems to be all fixed. I really hope there are no more issues with this vehicle. While I have never been a big fan of Ford products, I believe that every brand has its ups and downs. However, I have found that foreign brand vehicles tend to last longer.
