The Hyundai Tucson (/ˈtuːsɒn/; Korean: 현대 투싼) is a compact crossover SUV produced by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai. It is named after the city of Tucson, Arizona. It was originally known as the Hyundai JM when it was introduced in Japan in 2004.

The second-generation model was marketed as the Hyundai ix35 in several markets, including Europe, Australia and China, before reverting to Tucson for the third generation. Since its first generation, the Tucson has been developed alongside the Kia Sportage, sharing platforms and engines.

The Tucson is the best-selling Hyundai SUV model, with more than 7 million units sold globally since it launched in 2004. Of these, 1.4 million units have been sold in Europe.

The fourth-generation model marked the switch to a mid-size car platform using the N3 platform which is shared with another three corporate siblings, the Hyundai Santa Cruz, the Hyundai Mufasa and the fourth-generation Kia Sorento. As of 2022, the Tucson is positioned between the Kona or Creta and the three-row Santa Fe in Hyundai's crossover SUV lineup.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-04-09
  • VIN: KM8JU3AC3BU
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: This is a complaint related to the status of Hyundai's recall 251. The recall has gone on for months without a resolution, and puts me and my passengers at risk should there be a fire. On April 4, 2024, I received an email notice from Stafford Brown Hyundai that indicated a fix was ready for my car. I made an appointment to complete the fix, scheduled for Tuesday April 9. Two hours after dropping off my car, I received a phone call from Stafford Brown Hyundai indicating the fix was still not available for my car. They did not know when it would be available. This recall has gone on for an unacceptable length with no fix available. The risk to myself, my passengers, and my property is high. A resolution needs to be implemented now. Furthermore, Hyundai needs better management of how they communicate information to their dealers and car owners in regards to this recall, so as not to send inaccurate updates and create confusion.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-08-25
  • VIN: KM8JT3AB4BU
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: I purchased this vehicle from an acquaintance, who had it serviced by a local mechanic. Before I decided to buy it, I spoke with the mechanic he used, as well as calling the dealer with the vin number to verify that the recall issues had been taken care of. It was purchased around 9/19/2022 per the title. I change the oil and rotate the tires every 3000 miles. Checking the oil weekly to see if it needs filling.I was attending an outdoor music show about 120 miles away. After leaving and not getting more than 20miles from the venue late that evening, my car with no indication slowed down and thankfully with not as much traffic I was able to pull to the side of the highway. The car would not turn over. I heard no noises when this occurred, nor did I smell anything, it just it quit working. It was late when the car was towed to S&B Automotive in Bridgewater. I had to wait for a ride and didn’t get home till early morning. When I contacted the place where it was towed, they said I needed a new engine at $6,000.00. I drained my bank account to pay for this 2011 Hyundai Tucson. So I could not have it repaired and was not aware of the recall and still never received the recall notice to this day. Just the one regarding the key issue and class action suit. If I had known that there was a recall on this vehicle I would have had it towed to the dealership for the repair and then traded it in for another vehicle other than a Hyundai. I was forced to take out an unwanted loan in order to purchase another vehicle. This vehicle although well maintained has too many issues. I still have the title as I inadvertently gave the automotive company the wrong title. I want to be compensated for the full blue book value of this vehicle.

  • Summary: No known malfunction at this time on my vehicle - however a recall #251 has been issued with no repair available. Recall strongly recccommends parking car outside and away from structures due to possible fire which can also occur during driving. This problem has been going on with Hyundai cars for several years - AND THEY STILL DON'T HAVE A SOLUTION??? I called my two local dealerships and neither was aware of recall campaign 251. I asked if my ABS module completely failed - what module would they replace it with? I was advised that they would probably sell me a new one costing $1900 plus labor THAT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM!!! Hyundai is not taking this seriously - This is not being repaired in a timely manner. PLEASE RESTRICT THEM FROM SELLING ANYMORE CARS IN THE USA UNTIL THIS RECALL HAS A REMEDY!

Negative 2011 Hyundai Tucson car reviews

I regret to hear about the negative experience you had with your Hyundai car. It is important to note that such experiences are not typical of Hyundai vehicles, which are known for their reliability and quality. I would like to assure you that Hyundai takes customer satisfaction very seriously and we are committed to addressing any issues that our customers may face. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further concerns or feedback. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

  2. Cristopher Lakin 2024-09-24

If I had the chance to do it again, I would have gone for the GMC Terrain. It offers more horsepower and better fuel economy for the same price. Additionally, the sheet metal on the Hyundai is quite thin and prone to dents. I am currently looking for side molding to prevent door dings. The paint quality on the Limited model also seems poor, with a thin layer that chips easily. While Hyundai still has room for improvement, the design of this little SUV is cool and it handles well. However, I do wish it had more power and better fuel economy. My old 2006 Malibu Maxx with a 3.5 V6 engine actually got better gas mileage despite having 215 horsepower.

I have extensive experience driving this vehicle, having purchased it new and driven it for over 3 years. During this time, I have noticed several areas for improvement. The ride can be bouncy, particularly in the second row seating, and the fuel economy MPG numbers fall short of the advertised figures. Additionally, the small 13-gallon fuel tank limits the vehicle's range. There have also been some maintenance issues, such as an annoying rattle noise from the trunk, noisy shocks, and a failed low-pressure tire sensor. The AC fan required replacement at just 17k miles due to a high-pitched noise. Finally, the fan speed choices are limited, and the driver and passenger seats are too narrow for my liking.

I really wanted to love this vehicle, but unfortunately had to get rid of it after only 6 months. During my first road trip, with only 3500 miles on the car, I was stranded between AZ and CA due to a thrown rod. I had to have a new engine ordered and installed. Additionally, I began to notice rattles right away, and the gas mileage was never what was advertised. The brushed nickel (?) substance on the steering wheel started to peel off, and the front fender came loose. I didn't care for the dealership in AZ either, as they didn't return calls and provided inaccurate information. They were not at all helpful. While I would like to think it was not a Hyundai issue, it seems that I just got stuck with a lemon. I hope this feedback helps others make a more informed decision.

I am extremely disappointed with my purchase. I traded in a great Veracruz to get better gas mileage and have better interior features. The car inside is fine but the road noise on the highway is overwhelming. I drive 25 miles each way to work, all highway, and am so disappointed with the noise. I actually had the car checked for mechanical problems and found it was the tire noise. The tires they chose for the 18" wheels are so sub par and not inline with a Limited model. The gas mileage is also no where near 30.

We bought our 2011 Tucson brand new, with all the bells and whistles. It's a great little car and we like almost everything about it. However, there's one problem that's been driving us nuts: the CD player makes a cracking/scratching sound at various intervals of use. We enjoy listening to audiobooks, but after 20-30 minutes of listening, the CD starts making noises. We turn it off and can turn it back on to use again after 5-10 minutes, until it happens again. This is so disruptive! Hyundai has supposedly replaced it three times, but we continue to have the same problem. Our CDs are new and have never been used.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2011 Hyundai Tucson Limited with auto geartronic trans. It has the 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine and I've driven it for approximately 85,000 miles. I've found that I average 22MPG combo driving, city/highway, which is pretty good. I haven't had any engine problems, but I have noticed that the transmission doesn't react as quickly when I step hard on it. Overall, I think it's a great compact and versatile suv/crossover, especially if you don't need to haul large loads, carry five passengers, or tow. I've even been able to fit my two medium-sized dogs in the rear cargo area! The built-in navigational system/stereo is also really great. The only thing I wish is that the engine had a little more zip and achieved a few more miles per gallon. Thanks for listening!

I've had my Tucson for a couple weeks now and I'm so happy with it! The fuel economy is exactly what it states in the window sticker (which is rare for a vehicle nowadays). I chose the Tucson for its looks and price, and after one test drive, I knew it was the car for me. It's really comfortable, has great visibility, and comes with a lot of options as standard that some auto makers don't include. I would definitely recommend this vehicle!

This is my third Hyundai purchase and I must say, it's been great so far! Although, an electric driver's seat would be a great addition. There seems to be a slight rattle in the rear door, possibly from the license plate bracket, but I haven't been able to locate the source yet. Not a big deal though. The fuel economy ranges from 16.5 to 19.1, which is understandable given the hot summer weather and city driving. Despite having less than 700 miles on it, I really enjoy driving it. Although, the AC seems to run warm on occasion. I even had five people in it and it drove nicely with ample acceleration. Overall, I'm quite pleased with my purchase!

Hello there! While my GLS may not take you to cloud 9, it will definitely make running over a mouse feel like a speed bump! The suspension is quite stiff, but that also means the handling is top-notch and the car can turn on a dime. The heating system is decent, but not the best. While the seats may not be the most comfortable for bigger people, I find them perfect for me. The AWD is a lifesaver in the rain and snow, which is why I ultimately decided to purchase this car. Thank you for considering my review!
