2008 Toyota Highlander hybrid problems

The Toyota Highlander, also known as the Toyota Kluger (Japanese: トヨタ・クルーガー, Hepburn: Toyota Kurūgā), is a mid-size crossover SUV with three-row seating produced by Toyota since 2000.
Announced in April 2000 at the New York International Auto Show and arriving in late 2000 in Japan and January 2001 in North America, the Highlander became one of the first car-based mid-size SUV or mid-size crossovers. The Highlander is the crossover counterpart to the more rugged, truck-based mid-size 4Runner and became Toyota's best-selling SUV before being surpassed by the smaller RAV4 in 2006.
The first-generation model was sold in Japan as the Kluger, which was exclusive to dealership network called Toyota Netz as a larger alternative to the RAV4. The Kluger nameplate is also used in Australia because "Highlander" is a trademarked trim line name owned by Hyundai. The name is derived from the German word klug, which means smart or clever (Klüger – with diacritics – means "someone who is smarter than another" in German).

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-14
- VIN: JTEEW44A882
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: In June 2019, Toyota issued a recall for ABS malfunction, diagnostic code C1391 - brake actuator and accumulator. New parts were issued by Toyota in 2019 as part of the recall. My vehicle experienced ABS malfunction, diagnostic code C1391 in March 2022 and was repaired by Toyota with the new and improved parts issued as part of the recall. As of October 14, 2024, my vehicle is experiencing the same issue again - ABS brake malfunction diagnostic code C1391, with the brake system light, master warning light, abs light and ABS Malfunction warning noted on the screen. The vehicle can be inspected. Toyota has inspected and confirmed it is the same issue again. The new and improved parts from 2019 should not fail within 20,000 miles. Toyota did confirm that they used the new parts issued as part of the recall and cannot explain why they failed faster than the original parts causing dangerous braking issues.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-06
- VIN: JTEEW41A082
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: We were driving at about 40 MPH and approached our turn. When I depressed the brakes, they felt spongy and I had trouble slowing quickly. The yellow triangle illuminated on the dash and a long warning beep sounded. I was able to get safely parked in a parking lot, and my son came and took a look as well. We had the car towed to a shop, who diagnosed the problem, stating that we needed to replace the brake booster pump and actuator assembly. A family member noted that Toyota had issued a recall for vehicles with the same year/make/model for the braking system, so we had it towed to our local Toyota dealership to verify that they had no open recalls on the brakes and complete a full inspection otherwise. They validated that the brake booster pump and actuator assembly needed to be replaced. I am left wondering why my vehicle was not included in Toyota's recall.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-13
- VIN: JTEEW44A482
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: There was a customer support program from Toyota for certain Highlander from 2008 to 2010. The deadline was in 2020. The same issue started for me three weeks ago. Local Toyota Service center confirmed that it is the same code and issue but quoted me over $3000 to replace the whole thing. Since Toyota admitted that this is a faulty part and had support program to replace the parts, there should not be expiration date on the support program. This issue can only be fixed by Toyota Service center since it requires specialized tool and software. Customer should not be forced to pay the excessive fees because Toyota used faulty parts in the beginning.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-09
- VIN: JTEEW41A082
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: The brake pedal gave no resistance, going right to the floor. The ABS system warnings lit up on the dashboard at the same time. I was able to pull the car over safely, but it was not driveable and needed a tow to a repair shop. The repair shop noted that the brake actuator assembly and skid module failed and needed replacement. AFTER DOING RESEARCH WE ARE CONFIDENT THE ISSUE IS EXACTLY AS HUNDREDS OF OTHER OWNERS HAVE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED TO TOYOTA, BBB, AND NHTSA. TOYOTA HAS SINCE ISSUES RECALLS AND WARRANTY EXTENSIONS FOR THE OTHER TOYOTA HYBRID MODEL THAT UTILIZE THE SAME PLATFORM/SYSTEM BUT JUST NOT FOR THE LATER 2008 HIGHLANDER HYBRID. SOMEONE NEEDS TO STEP UP AND HOLD TOYOTA ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE SAME FAULTY PARTS THEY CONTINUED TO INSTALL IN THEIR OTHER HYBRID VEHICLES THEY SOLD TO CONSUMERS. THE ABS SYSTEM IS CLEARLY NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AS HUNDREDS OF CONSUMERS HAVE PREVIOUSLY NOTED. WHY WOULD TOYOTA COVER THE COST OF REPAIR FOR OTHER HYBRIDS WITH THIS SAME DEFECT BUT NOT OTHERS? THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL OR WARRANTY EXTENSION ISSUED FOR THIS MODEL/YEAR AS TOYOTA HAS ISSUED FOR OTHER HYBRID MODELS USING THE SAME PLATFORM. THIS IS CLEARLY A WELL-DOCUMENTED PROBLEM FOR THE 2008 MODELS.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-10-14
- VIN: JTEEW44A882
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: The engine burns Coolant and yet doesn't overheat. The engine on cyl 4 misfires. Changing the head gasket didn't repair the issue, replacing all fuel Injectors and ignition parts didn't either. Heads inspected and passed. Compression testing passed. Always misfires on cyl 4. No repair aside from an ecu reflash or replacement seems to be possible. 4 shops looks at it and couldn't find any reason why it was misfiring and no traces of water were found in the interior, on the floor, in the oil or exhaust in the cooling system.
SEAT BELTS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-14
- VIN: JTEEW44A882
- Components: SEAT BELTS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: The ECU requires a reflash or replacement. The hybrid batteries over heat and regen braking randomly shuts off during braking or before/after due to overheating becuswe the cooling fans do not engage past level 1 or 2. The fans in fact never go full speed unless commanded by a Toyota service tech via the software during fan testing. Upon testing I noticed they not once went high enough to be audible and thus overheated. Manu forms indicate this is a common issue and requires 180-$300 for a reflash and/or replacement of the compu) ECU to alleviate this issue. Second issue I've found is the 3rd row seat belts just like some other MY Highlanders have their restraints cut at the shackle holding them to the body of the vehicle. I have seen several sheered this way including my own vehicle.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-15
- VIN: JTEEW44A382

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-02-15
- VIN: JTEEW44A582
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: Myself, and many other 2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid owners, have a vehicle code labeled C1391 "Leak in Accumulator" wherein the vehicles brake actuator and brake booster pump malfunction. The dash of my vehicle has the following indicators on; Check ABS, Check Brake System, Check VSC System, Yellow Master Warning Light, Red Brake System Light & Buzzer, Yellow ABS Warning Light, and Yellow Slip Indicator Light. This has been a significant cause of concern for me over the past two-three years since purchasing this vehicle. This is a known issue throughout the Toyota Highlander Hybrid community and the dealership is not upholding their previous recall which occurred in late 2019 and ended in 2020, after I had purchased the vehicle. The cost of repairs is upwards of $4,000 and Toyota has not given the proper opportunity for recall repairs to owners. This is a significant safety issue because if the brakes fail, a severe crash may injure myself or others. The problem has been reproduced by several other owners, dealerships, and independent service centers (this is a well known and common issue). This vehicle is available for inspection if requested. I plead that you please insist on Toyota reopening their recall to provide service to the owners of this vehicle, this is an issue with their manufacturing and not on the owners/operators. This problem occurred immediately after receiving scheduled maintenance to my vehicle from a certified Toyota Dealership, whom have quoted me the above cost for repairs and may have caused the issue in the first place.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-19
- VIN: JTEEW44A582
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: Brought this sport utility truck from a dealership out of Sandersville, Geogia in 2018. Never had an issue with this vehicle. All services are done in the dealership. It previously has 168k mileage. I have always heard sounds from as i have learned is the ABS motor\pump system since purchasing the vehicle in 2018, but never any issues. Now November 2023 this ABS situation has my whole dashboard lit up. This got full attention due we were traveling when this occurred to us telling me to stop the vehicle, pull over, shut the car off and contact a dealer. We exited the freeway at a gas station to see what the matter was about. I didn't since any tightness in the brake pedal so I drove back home to be safe. Warning messages read: Check VSC System, BRAKE Malfunction, Cheak Brake , Check ABS. I have not been able to get it fix due to the cost of the repair on an issue Toyota already knew about. It's our brakes Toyota. Has money over ridden the performance of these vehicle's? Safety for the customer is first, I thought.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-05
- VIN: JTEEW44A282
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I own a 2008 Highlander Hybrid Limited. The ABS actuator and assembly have gone bad. The following dash lights are illuminated: ABS, VSC, brake warning, and parking brake. The issue has been confirmed by toyota dealer. This defect has been reported HUNDREDS of times and Toyota has yet to issue a recall for 2008 and above models. In 2019 there was a Customer Support Program Bulletin(CUSTOMER SUPPORT PROGRAM BULLETIN (ZKC): REPAIR COVERAGE FOR BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY AND BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP ASSEMBLY ON CERTAIN 2008-2010 MY HIGHLANDER HYBRID VEHICLES) stating, " Toyota is providing coverage for repairs related to the certain internal malfunctions of the brake booster assemblies. One or more of the following specific Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) C1391, C1252, C1256 or C1253 will be stored in the vehicles memory to be used as verification." This 'customer support' bulletin was published June 6TH, 2019 and revised August 28TH, 2019. The bulletin continues, "Primary Coverage offers the Customer Support Program until December 31, 2020, regardless of mileage. After the Primary Coverage, the Secondary Coverage is applicable for 10 years or 150,000 miles from the vehicle’s date of first use, whichever occurs first." However, as this document clearly states that the affected and covered vehicles range from those manufactured in the years 2008-2010, the owners of a 2008/2009 model would only be eligible for primary coverage; allowing only about 1 year and 7 months for possible brake failure before a customer could file a claim for repair under warranty. Without any coverage the total cost for repair amounts to +$3,000.00(.) Seeing as this is an issue with Toyota manufacturing it seems that Toyota is much more concerned with keeping their money instead of preventing injury by issuing a recall and taking care of their customers.

2008 Toyota Highlander hybrid recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 8 recalls for different components of the 2008 Toyota Highlander hybrid.
- Manufacturer: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing
- Components: VISIBILITY:POWER WINDOW DEVICES AND CONTROLS
- Summary: Toyota Motor Company (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2009-2011 Tundra, Sequoia, Corolla, Corolla Matrix and Scion xB, 2008-2011 Highlander and Highlander Hybrid, 2007 Camry and Camry Hybrid, 2009 Camry and Camry Hybrid, 2006-2011 RAV4, 2006-2010 Yaris, and 2009-2010 Scion xD and Pontiac Vibe vehicles. During the manufacturing of the Power Window Master Switch (PWMS), grease lubricant may have been inconsistently applied to the sliding electrical contacts.
- Consequence: If the sliding electrical contacts are not protected by lubricant, debris and moisture that get into the switch may cause a short circuit and the switch assembly may overheat and melt, increasing the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the switch, applying a lubricant if no abnormality is found. If abnormality is found, the PWMS circuit board will be replaced, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin December 20, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is C0M.
- Manufacturer: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing
- Components: HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM: INVERTER
- Summary: Toyota is recalling certain model year 2006-2010 Highlander hybrid vehicles manufactured February 16, 2005, through July 29, 2010; and model year 2006-2008 Lexus RX400h vehicles manufactured February 23, 2005, through December 2, 2008. The Intelligent Power Module (IPM) inside the inverter module may contain transistors that have higher operating temperatures than the solder can support and the transistors may be heat damaged by the solder. If this occurs, various warning lamps, including the malfunction indicator lamp, slip indicator light, brake system warning light, and master warning light, will be illuminated on the instrument panel.
- Consequence: The vehicle may enter a fail-safe/limp-home mode that limits the drivability of the vehicle. It is possible that the hybrid system will shut down while the vehicle is being driven, causing the vehicle to stall unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the IPM free of charge. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331. Vehicles that had their IPM replaced under recall 11V-342 are not affected by this campaign.
- Manufacturer: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing
- Components: VISIBILITY:POWER WINDOW DEVICES AND CONTROLS
- Summary: Toyota is recalling certain model year 2007-2009 Camry, Camry Hybrid, RAV4, Corolla, Corolla Matrix, Tundra, Sequoia, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Yaris, Scion xB, Scion xD and Pontiac Vibe vehicles. The power window master switch assemblies in some of these vehicles were built using a less precise process for lubricating the internal components of the switch assemblies. Irregularities in this lubrication process may cause the power window master switch assemblies to malfunction and overheat.
- Consequence: If the switch overheats, it may melt, possibly resulting in a fire.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify its owners, and dealers will inspect the switch and apply a special grease that inhibits heat build up or replace any switch damaged by the defect, free of charge. Toyota owners that experience a problem with a switch should not attempt to make repairs, but should contact their Toyota dealer or the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331. General Motors will contact the Pontiac Vibe owners affected by this recall and GM dealers will inspect and repair switches as necessary. Those owners may contact Pontiac Customer Care at 1-800-762-2737.
- Manufacturer: TOYOTA MOTOR NORTH AMERICA, INC.
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: TOYOTA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2008 HIGHLANDER, HIGHLANDER HYBRID, AND MODEL YEAR 2007-2008 RAV4 VEHICLES. IN THE CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG (CSA) SYSTEM, THERE ARE TWO SENSORS IN THE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY WHICH ARE DESIGNED TO DETECT VEHICLE ROLL ANGLE. IF ONE OF THESE SENSORS MALFUNCTIONS, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT (MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT: MIL) WILL ILLUMINATE AND THE ROLL DETECTION SYSTEM WILL BE SUSPENDED; HOWEVER, THE AIRBAG CSA REMAINS AVAILABLE IN THE EVENT OF A SIDE CRASH. IF BOTH SENSORS FAIL NEARLY SIMULTANEOUSLY AFTER INITIAL AIRBAG SYSTEM CHECK, THE CSA AND THE SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER COULD BE INADVERTENTLY ACTIVATED.
- Consequence: INADVERTENT ACTIVATION OF THE CSA AND/OR THE SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER CAN CAUSE INJURY TO A VEHICLE OCCUPANT.
- Remedy: TOYOTA WILL REPLACE THE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY WITH A NEW ONE CONTAINING IMPROVED ROLL RATE SENSORS, FREE OF CHARGE. TOYOTA INTENDS TO SEND AN INTERIM OWNER NOTIFICATION TO OWNERS EARLY TO MID-MAY, 2011 WHEN SUFFICIENT PARTS AND REMEDY BECOMES AVAILABLE. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-800-331-4331.

EVENTUALLY THE CRACK MAY EXPAND CAUSING THE CLAMP TO BREAK.
- Consequence: THE ORIGINAL CLAMP AND THE TOYOTA STAINLESS STEEL EXHAUST TIP MAY FALL OFF THE VEHICLE'S EXHAUST PIPE AND BECOME A ROAD HAZARD WHICH WOULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH.
- Remedy: TOYOTA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE CLAMP FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 4, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER AT 1 888-270-9371 MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, 5:00 AM TO 6:00 PM, SATURDAY 7:00 AM THROUGH 4:00 PM PACIFIC TIME.
- Manufacturer: TOYOTA MOTOR NORTH AMERICA, INC.
- Components: SEAT BELTS:REAR/OTHER
- Summary: TOYOTA IS RECALLING 90,189 MY 2008 HIGHLANDER AND HIGHLANDER HYBRID PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A THIRD ROW SEAT. THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 208, "OCCUPANT CRASH PROTECTION." THE NON-DRIVER DESIGNATED SEATING POSITIONS (DSP) ON THESE VEHICLES IS EQUIPPED WITH SEAT BELT ASSEMBLIES THAT HAVE A FEATURE THAT CONVERTS THE RETRACTOR FROM AN EMERGENCY LOCKING RETRACTOR (ELR) TO AN AUTOMATIC LOCKING RETRACTOR (ALR). THE BELTS CONVERT TO THE ALR MODE AFTER THE WEBBING HAS BEEN FULLY WITHDRAWN FROM THE RETRACTOR. THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED SO THAT AS THE BELT IS RELEASED INTO THE RETRACTOR, THE SYSTEM REMAINS IN THE ALR MODE SO THAT A CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM (CRS) CAN BE TIGHTLY SECURED.
- Consequence: HOWEVER, FOR THE TWO THIRD ROW DSP'S ON THESE VEHICLES, THE ALR MODE DEACTIVATES BEFORE THE WEBBING IS FULLY RETRACTED, SO THAT IT WILL NOT LOCK WHEN CERTAIN REAR-FACING CRS'S THAT HAVE A SHORT SEAT BELT ROUTING PATH ARE INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE. THIS CAN ALLOW THE SEAT BELT WEBBING TO SPOOL OUT DURING NORMAL DRIVING MANEUVERS, WHICH COULD AFFECT THE STABILITY OF A CHILD RESTRAINT INSTALLED AT THOSE SEATING POSITIONS. AS SUCH, THIS COULD DISCOURAGE THE USE OF A CHILD RESTRAINT AND IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE CHILD MAY NOT BE ADEQUATELY PROTECTED POSSIBLY RESULTING IN INJURY.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEWLY DESIGNED SEAT BELT COMPONENT FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT DECEMBER 18, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-800-331-4331.

I have owned my 08 Highlander Hybrid for just 5 days but I am very happy. I am a discerning consumer and I researched and thought about this vehicle for 5 months before purchasing. I have owned Toyotas for 23 years and this is the best out of the gate. It is actually smoother and quieter than I expected and rivals my Avalon - BUT the pick-up power is still great!

Every imaginable gadget, great looks, great ride, it did not disappoint. I'm glad to hear that you got just under 32 MPG driving to work today (25 miles in stop and go traffic). If you could just actually order one with what you want in it, that would be big. Overall, it sounds like you had a great experience with the car!

I am glad to hear that you are mostly happy with your Hybrid. However, I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing some issues with the paint. It seems that this type of problem has been found before with Toyota vehicles. You have had the SUV for about five months now and the dealer has suggested that you contact Toyota USA to resolve the problem. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to assist you.

I fell in love with this vehicle the moment I test drove it over a year ago. It took me a while to buy it, but I'm so glad I did, even though my payments are a bit higher than I wanted. The car drives like a dream and has plenty of space for my mid-large size dog and my workmates, who I carpool with once a week. So far, I've consistently gotten 30.5 - 32 MPG off of my first 4 tanks. My buddies have all said the back seat is 'cavernous' compared to my 2008 Rav4 (which I traded in for this car) and that the seats are 'very comfortable'. If you plan on keeping this car for 10+ years, the fuel savings will eventually catch up to the price premium. I absolutely love it!

I was a bit hesitant about purchasing a used hybrid, but in March 2021, I found a great deal on a 2008 Highlander Hybrid with below average miles. It's a Limited model, fully loaded with leather seats, and a navigation system (which is a bit outdated, but it still looks alright). The color is black with beige leather, silver roof rack, running boards, and a towing hitch. Despite its age, it still looks good. It's now October 2021, and I can confidently say that I don't regret my decision. I did have to replace the 12v battery, which wasn't as straightforward on this hybrid because the idle speed control had to be reset. However, it only cost me less than 200 bucks. One thing I learned relatively quickly is that this vehicle will respond to your driving style, which will determine whether you get below or above the EPA estimated mileage. To maximize fuel economy, I had to learn how to drive a hybrid (from YouTube videos). The techniques I found most effective include using ECON mode and coasting to stop signs or red lights about a quarter of a mile in advance, which shuts off the gas engine. Another technique is when I want to enable cruise control, I'll go about 5 mph above my intended cruising speed, coast down those extra 5 mph, and then engage the cruise. This is most effective when cruising around 50 mph or lower, and I only do it if no one is behind me. When warmed up and the hybrid battery is fully charged (it maxes out at 80% charge and drops no lower than 20% before recharging to extend the hybrid battery life), this 4500 lbs. vehicle will cruise at 40 mph in full EV mode for about 1.5 miles before the battery gets down to 20% and the gas engine kicks back on! I will say this caveat: that's the maximum when the weather is nice out and the AC is off.I live in the Houston area and I noticed that on the hottest days this past summer, the hybrid battery wasn’t charging as much and it seemed to run more on the gas engine. This is a fail-safe because of the heat, which is understandable. However, the difference wasn’t too drastic and I would imagine that extreme cold would affect it more. All in all, I average about 25 mpg in highway driving, which is the EPA estimated average, and slightly above EPA estimates in the city at around 28 mpg. When I purposely use the techniques I mentioned, I can easily average around 30 mpg (city of course) and on one 10-mile city trip, the computer had me at 35 mpg, which is the best it’s recorded! Not bad at all. I will say this: regular short trips will kill fuel economy on this hybrid just like on any other vehicle. I work less than a mile from home (I know, lucky me, don’t hate!) and when I’m driving there and on other short trips like the grocery store, etc., I average about 18 mpg! But I also will say this: those same trips on my wife’s 2007 CR-V with a 4 cyl. gas engine will average about 16 mpg. Another factor to be aware of is that when cruising over 70 mph, you won’t get much benefit from the hybrid system and that’s about the point where fuel economy will begin to drop below the 25 mpg highway EPA estimate. Overall though, driving this Highlander is a pleasure. It handles well enough considering its weight, it’s smooth and quiet, the interior is comfortable and roomy, I love the stow-away middle seat in the 2nd row for “captains” chairs, my young daughter loves the 3rd row and yes, the storage space behind the 3rd row is very minimal. I love the fuel economy of the hybrid, but when you need this baby to go, it’s got plenty of power! I definitely recommend it.

With 116,000 miles on the car, we are currently getting 23mpg, which is a decrease from the 28 to 30 mpg we got when we first purchased the Hylander new. Despite keeping the car in ENCON mode all the time and driving conservatively, we have noticed a significant drop in fuel efficiency. However, based on my expertise, I believe that this decrease in mpgs is a natural occurrence that happens with age and mileage. It is important to note that regular maintenance and upkeep can help to mitigate this issue.

Hi there! I recently purchased this vehicle used and I'm experiencing some vibration and shaking. I've taken it to the dealership multiple times and they've replaced the tires, struts, and brakes, but the shaking is still happening. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue or if it's just normal for this type of vehicle. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I've driven around 200 miles so far and I find it quite comfortable. However, the chassis is geared towards a more relaxed driving style. Personally, I prefer more responsive steering and suspension feedback, but I understand that this is a Toyota. I bought this SUV mainly for its fuel efficiency and practicality. Although it's not the most thrilling ride, it's very quiet. The steering can feel a bit loose at highway speeds, but it's not too bad. The center console is a bit plain and lacks some features, such as a coin slot for individual coins. On the bright side, I can fit a rear-facing car seat behind the passenger seat and still have someone ride in the front. Unfortunately, I can't put the child seat in the center and have two passengers in the second row due to the seat belt interference. I'm currently getting around 24mpg, but I know there's still a lot of breaking in left.

We recently purchased a hybrid vehicle, but unfortunately, we have encountered some issues. The black box that displays engine performance has stopped working, and it took two weeks to install the Lojack and handsfree telephone (dealer installed). Additionally, the handsfree feature is not functioning, and we did not receive manuals for either. We were initially informed by the salesman and his manager that we could get a luggage rack without having to purchase the sunroof package, but after buying the car, we were informed that this was not possible.
