These common problems reported by owners of the Mercury Mariner 2010 underscore the importance of regular maintenance, prompt diagnosis, and timely repairs to ensure the vehicle's optimal performance, safety, and longevity. STEERING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-10-01
  • VIN: 4M2CN9HG9AK
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: The power steering assist is malfunctioning and it is available for inspection upon request. The steering wheel is very difficult to turn, it's as if the power steering assist is keeping the wheel from turning. No, but I spoke to someone at Ford and they said that it sounded like my car should be in the recall that was announced for my vehicle type but my VIN was not included in the recall. My car has not been inspected by anyone but it says right on the dash board digital display that there is a "Power Steering Assist Fault". Ford does this with many vehicles they recall, a lot of vehicles that should be included in the recalls are not and we're supposed to foot the bill for their lack of concern for public safety? It's going to cause an accident but it's my only working car and I can't afford to pay for their mistakes. How many have died due to their negligence I'm wondering.

STEERING,SUSPENSION,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-06-19
  • VIN: 4M2CN9B71AK
  • Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: I recently purchase 2010 Mercury Mariner. There is a few errors appearing on the screen in front of the steering wheel. One of the error is "CHECK FUEL LINES." It also has an error about the tire pressure sensor. It also rides roughly, but the wheels are like new, so it feels like the suspension or shocks have something wrong with them. Also, there is a lot of play in the steering wheel when driving it. When I went to check on the recalls in the system by putting in my VIN, it shows that there are no recalls on my vehicle. However, these errors and issues are connected to the recalls for my vehicle. I am sure that these recalls have not been taken care of for this vehicle and they need to be fixed.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-05-14
  • VIN: 4M2CN8B78AK
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
  • Summary: When the weather is hot (close to 100 degrees or more) and I am driving with the a/c - my vehicle on 3 occasions will not start after parking the vehicle and trying to restart it. The red padlock sign blinks and it won't start. At first it is trying to turnover but then will continually sound worse and all other warning lights go haywire. I leave the car alone for half a day and it starts up again like nothing happened. On the fourth occasion, the car stopped while driving, just a quiet shutdown and the car glided. This time it did not work for over 24 hours and then started up again like nothing happened. Multiple mechanics and also the dealership cannot figure out the problem because by the time i have it towed to shop, it works again. They did a full check on the car and cannot find anything wrong and there were no diagnostic codes. This issue happens when the weather is hot and poses a safety concern as now it is shutting off while driving and I become stranded each time. (First incident happened 8/25/18, last incident 5/14/22) Total of 4.

STEERING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-01-02
  • VIN: 4M2CN9B72AK
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: "Power Steering Assist Fault" message appeared, and the steering became stiff, indicating the power steering stopped working. This happened while coming down from a snowy mountain pass, which put myself, my passengers, and other vehicles at risk. Even though there was a 2014 recall for this problem, I was told by Ford dealership that there were no open recalls on my car (indicating it was either fixed and broke again, or my car was never included in the recall-- as I purchased the vehicle secondhand, I am unsure which it is). It will be a $1200 fix fat this Ford dealership for a known and dangerous problem that should, but won't, be covered by the previous recall. There should be an easier way to track fixed recalls through the NHTSA Vin lookup program.

2010 Mercury Mariner recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2010 Mercury Mariner.

2016-10-26
  • Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
  • Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP
  • Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2010-2012 Ford Escape vehicles manufactured February 26, 2009, to April 29, 2012, and 2010-2011 Mercury Mariner vehicles manufactured February 25, 2009, to December 12, 2010. On vehicles with a 3.0L engine, the Fuel Delivery Module (FDM) may crack, causing a fuel leak.
  • Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
  • Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the FDM flange with one that has a redesigned fuel supply port, free of charge. Remedy parts are currently unavailable. Interim notices were mailed to owners on December 13, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16S41.
2015-06-03
  • Manufacturer: Timken Company
  • Components: SUSPENSION:FRONT:WHEEL BEARING
  • Summary: The Timken Company (Timken) is recalling certain aftermarket front wheel bearings, part number 510072, sold from January 22, 2015, to May 21, 2015, to be used as service parts on 2001-2012 Ford Escape, 2001-2011 Mazda Tribute, and 2005-2011 Mercury Mariner vehicles. The affected wheel bearings have incorrect dimensions of a 42mm bore, 76mm outer dimension, and 39mm width, instead of a 42mm bore, 78mm outer dimension and a 45mm width.
  • Consequence: Use of an incorrectly sized wheel bearing can adversely affect the braking and steering of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Timken has begun notifying distributors who will offer purchasers replacement wheel bearings, free of charge. The recall began on May 21, 2015. Owners may contact Timken customer service at 1-866-984-6536.

  • Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
  • Components: STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM
  • Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2008-2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner vehicles manufactured August 18, 2006, through September 11, 2010. The affected vehicles have a steering torque sensor that may not be able to properly detect driver steering input. As a result, the system could remove the Electric Power Steering (EPS) assist.
  • Consequence: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the software for the power steering control module (PSCM) and the instrument cluster module, free of charge. If a vehicle shows a history of a loss of the torque sensor signal or fault codes relating to the PSCM when the vehicle is brought in for the recall remedy, the affected components will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on July 18, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S05.

Negative 2010 Mercury Mariner car reviews

  1. Reynold Wilkinson 2024-08-11

I got this vehicle after driving a Mountaineer for 6 years. While the Mariner was a little disappointing in comparison, I did get a great deal on it. The gas mileage and comfort are both okay, but the drive can be a bit noisy at times. Unfortunately, even though I got the 'flex fuel' model, I haven't been able to find any flex fuel in my area of the country. It's a bit frustrating, but overall I'm still happy with my purchase.

  2. Jess Walter 2024-04-24

In November 2009, I purchased a Mercury Mariner. Unfortunately, in January, the car began to make a squealing noise when started in certain temperatures. Despite taking the car back to the dealer four times and contacting Ford customer care, the issue remains unresolved. However, I am confident that a solution can be found and I will continue to pursue it until the issue is resolved. It is important to me that my vehicle is in top condition and I am willing to take the necessary steps to ensure that it is.

  3. Nicola Koch 2024-04-15

The 2010 Mariner has some transmission issues, which can cause the engine to slow down the car. Despite the dealer's claim that this is normal, it is important to address these issues. The heated front seats are a nice feature, but they get too hot too quickly and should have a temperature setting. The car is also quite noisy, especially when accelerating, but the climate controls work very well. The brakes could be firmer, and it would be better if the car had rear disc brakes. While gas mileage varies, it is generally very good. The I4 engine can struggle to get up to speed, but it performs well enough to maintain speed, especially with the help of cruise control. Overall, the Mariner is an okay car, but it may not be the best choice for everyone.

Positive 2010 Mercury Mariner car reviews

  1. Ryder Boehm 2025-01-08

I have recently purchased this vehicle at an incredible deal. Although the comfort level is not up to my expectations, it has great mileage and some wind noise. I would have preferred the seat to go further back.

  2. Liam Stark 2024-11-26

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share that my wife and I have been on the hunt for a new ride. She's been driving a 2005 Escape and absolutely loves it! We recently checked out the New Highlander, Venza, CRV, and new Escape, but none of them quite fit the bill. The new Escape felt a bit cramped for longer trips, the Highlander was too big, the Venza was too expensive with its 20

  3. Troy Graham 2024-11-04

Overall, this is a great SUV. It's fun to drive, has good mileage, and plenty of room.

  4. Philip Murray 2024-11-03

I confidently purchased my Mariner Premier model on Jan. 16th and have been enjoying the upgrades. Despite the Chicago weather, the 2WD has proven to be very sufficient. The SUV styling provides excellent visibility. While it is too early to determine gas mileage, I am optimistic. Although the noise level on Chicago streets is noticeable, I am confident that it will improve over time. Overall, I am pleased with my purchase and look forward to further exploring the capabilities of my Mariner.

  5. Albert Von 2024-06-13

This car was actually our number two choice. We had picked out a JGC to purchase but kept getting the run around from the Jeep dealership. All I can say is, thank goodness they tried to hose us. We got a much better vehicle, with more options, and better overall quality, for a heck of a lot less money. We are sold on Ford products for life. Thank you, Bob Howard Ford of Okc! I will never stray to GM or Chrysler again.
