- Date Complaint: 2024-04-27
- VIN: 4M2CU29309K
- Components: STEERING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Months back there were times the power steering would go out, it would be for short amount of times and always came back. As of 40+ days ago the power steering has totally gone out and has not once come back. The dash says "power steering assist fault" The other issue is the wrench on the dash. It's normally after driving for quite some time. Even if there has been a break on the car while grocery shopping etc. when it comes on the car goes into limp mode. VERY DANGEROUS as we cannot tell when it'll happen. There has been multiple times the light turns green we take off, get to about 15-20MPH and she just stops. The dash reads to safetly pull over and I believe it says to shut off the car. This has been happening for 5+ months. There is also random over heating when that happens. This is based on how I remember it. Because of the safety issues I have not driven the vehicle. My husband drives it because he can handle no power steering better then me... Not that it's better for anyone to use..

Mercury Mariner 2010
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-01
- Date Complaint: 2024-02-04
- VIN: 4M2CN9HG9AK
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: The power steering assist is malfunctioning and it is available for inspection upon request. The steering wheel is very difficult to turn, it's as if the power steering assist is keeping the wheel from turning. No, but I spoke to someone at Ford and they said that it sounded like my car should be in the recall that was announced for my vehicle type but my VIN was not included in the recall. My car has not been inspected by anyone but it says right on the dash board digital display that there is a "Power Steering Assist Fault". Ford does this with many vehicles they recall, a lot of vehicles that should be included in the recalls are not and we're supposed to foot the bill for their lack of concern for public safety? It's going to cause an accident but it's my only working car and I can't afford to pay for their mistakes. How many have died due to their negligence I'm wondering.

- Model: Mercury Mariner 2007
- Report Received Date: 2015-09-29
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:FLOOR SHIFT
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2001-2008 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner vehicles manufactured March 31, 2001, to September 1, 2009. The affected vehicles are equipped with either a 2.3L or 3.0L engine and have had their CD4E transmission replaced with remanufactured one that was rebuilt between June 11, 2015 through July 15, 2015. These service repair part transmissions have a shift lever bolt that may not be properly tightened. As a result, the shift control lever could disengage from the transmission without warning.
- Consequence: If the shift lever disengages from the transmission, a driver may be unable to shift gear positions and the indicated shift position may not represent the gear position the vehicle is in. Should a disengagement occur while the vehicle is being driven, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, the gear selection indicator may show that the transmission is in the "PARK" position, but the vehicle transmission may not actually be in the "PARK" gear position. If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the transmissions and either tighten the manual shift lever bolt or replace the manual shift lever assembly. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on October 23, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S28.

Vehicle year: 2007
This is one of the best cars I have owned. I really love the luxurious feel of the interior. It feels like I'm in an upscale SUV and it's a Mercury! I have had an Escape and the Mariner is so much nicer. I can't say enough good things about this car. The V6 has loads of power. My only drawback is the gas mileage - but it's an SUV so what do you expect?!

Vehicle year: 2005
I really enjoy driving the Mariner. It's a fun and well-handling vehicle. However, I was disappointed to find that the paint below the rear passenger doors (where the body flairs out) was badly chipped after only 2k miles of careful driving. We put on mud flaps and had it re-painted, but 2k miles later, the same issue occurred. Ford claims this is a vehicle trait, which is unfortunate for an otherwise good vehicle. I'm curious to know if anyone else has experienced this issue.

It's my first SUV and I think I made the right choice. We looked at a lot and ended up choosing the Mercury. I love it! I've only had it for 2 months, but we had a lot of snow during that time and it handles great, which is one of the reasons I wanted 4WD. I haven't had any problems at all with the vehicle.

I see that you've had your vehicle since November of 2008. It's great to hear that you found a car that you really like! I'm glad to hear that you have no complaints so far and that the gas mileage is about 20 MPG. It's also great to hear that you had no problems in the snow this winter. Based on your experience, you would recommend this vehicle to anyone wanting a small SUV. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

Vehicle year: 2006
Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my 2006 Mercury Mariner SUV (4 Cylinder / 4WD). I've been the proud owner since I purchased it brand new back in 2006. It's been my trusty daily driver for my 92-mile commute, rain or shine. I can honestly say that this is the BEST VEHICLE I've ever owned! I take great care of it, changing the oil every 5k miles and rotating the tires regularly. I've had to replace a few things over the years, like the tires, front and back brakes, serpentine belt, plugs, battery, windshield, alternator, and wiper blades, but nothing major. Recently, the AC Compressor gave out, but it's no biggie. Even after a rear-end collision in 2010, my Mariner still looks and runs great. The paint is smooth as glass, and the interior is practically mint. I'm so impressed with the build quality of this vehicle, and I'm sad to see that Mercury discontinued the product line. If they were still selling them, I would definitely purchase another one. The engine runs like a dream, and the transmission is perfect. I've even had the fluids drained and refilled a couple of times, and they always look clean. Thank you, Mercury, for making such a fantastic SUV!

After purchasing my 2011 Mariner 4 cylinder, I experienced a series of unfortunate events. Firstly, the rear window exploded, which I later found out was a known defect despite the dealer's claim of ignorance. Following that, the air conditioner stopped working during a particularly hot period in Wisconsin. Although it took the dealer three attempts to fix it, they eventually succeeded. Unfortunately, a defective alternator pulley required another three days at the dealer. Since the pulley was replaced, the air conditioner has stopped working again. Despite the warranty expiring soon, I remain confident that a solution can be found. While these issues have been frustrating, I am determined to find a resolution and continue to enjoy my car.

The vehicle has a sleek appearance. Although there was an issue with the CD player not reading the CD, restarting the vehicle resolved the problem. The service department confirmed that the muffler's free play is within normal limits. While backing up on a hill, the vehicle produces some creaking noise. The gas mileage is satisfactory for an SUV, but it requires more effort to accelerate uphill. Overall, the vehicle performs well and meets expectations for its class.

Hi there! I bought this SUV because my old one wouldn't fit in my new company garage. I was initially impressed with its features, but over time I found it lacking. Unfortunately, it uses a lot of gas and has weak acceleration. I also had to replace the brake rotors after only 19,000 miles, which cost me over $400. On the bright side, the warranty service was helpful in replacing the gas tank intake and several switches (window, sunroof). My brother has the same vehicle and he likes it, but for me, I'm looking forward to trading it in soon.

Vehicle year: 2009
I have owned four Ford/Mercury vehicles, and unfortunately, this one is the worst. Although the gas mileage is satisfactory, the noise level inside the car is unbearable. Even my 10-year-old Explorer provided a quieter ride than this vehicle. I regret not testing it on rougher roads before purchasing. It is important to turn every knob to the maximum level before making a purchase, as turning the heat/AC to anything above the lowest level creates a significant amount of noise. Despite my complaints, the dealership insists that the noise is normal tire noise. The outside noise is so loud that I have to turn up the radio to hear it.

I recently purchased a new vehicle and the salesman described it as 'zippy' for a 4 cylinder. While it seemed fine during my test drive on surface streets, I quickly realized that it lacks pick up and go, especially when carrying passengers or heavy items, making it unsuitable for merging on and off highways. However, it would be a great fit for an older couple who only need to run errands around town. The body style is a bit outdated, but it's a relief that it doesn't resemble a bug like most newer SUVs. On the plus side, it gets 24 miles per gallon, although the digital fuel gauge is not always accurate. Overall, it's a decent car with some limitations.
