- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-01
- Date Complaint: 2024-04-27
- VIN: 4M2CU29309K
- Components: STEERING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Months back there were times the power steering would go out, it would be for short amount of times and always came back. As of 40+ days ago the power steering has totally gone out and has not once come back. The dash says "power steering assist fault" The other issue is the wrench on the dash. It's normally after driving for quite some time. Even if there has been a break on the car while grocery shopping etc. when it comes on the car goes into limp mode. VERY DANGEROUS as we cannot tell when it'll happen. There has been multiple times the light turns green we take off, get to about 15-20MPH and she just stops. The dash reads to safetly pull over and I believe it says to shut off the car. This has been happening for 5+ months. There is also random over heating when that happens. This is based on how I remember it. Because of the safety issues I have not driven the vehicle. My husband drives it because he can handle no power steering better then me... Not that it's better for anyone to use..

Mercury Mariner 2010
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-01
- Date Complaint: 2024-02-04
- VIN: 4M2CN9HG9AK
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: The power steering assist is malfunctioning and it is available for inspection upon request. The steering wheel is very difficult to turn, it's as if the power steering assist is keeping the wheel from turning. No, but I spoke to someone at Ford and they said that it sounded like my car should be in the recall that was announced for my vehicle type but my VIN was not included in the recall. My car has not been inspected by anyone but it says right on the dash board digital display that there is a "Power Steering Assist Fault". Ford does this with many vehicles they recall, a lot of vehicles that should be included in the recalls are not and we're supposed to foot the bill for their lack of concern for public safety? It's going to cause an accident but it's my only working car and I can't afford to pay for their mistakes. How many have died due to their negligence I'm wondering.

- Model: Mercury Mariner 2007
- Report Received Date: 2015-09-29
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:FLOOR SHIFT
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2001-2008 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner vehicles manufactured March 31, 2001, to September 1, 2009. The affected vehicles are equipped with either a 2.3L or 3.0L engine and have had their CD4E transmission replaced with remanufactured one that was rebuilt between June 11, 2015 through July 15, 2015. These service repair part transmissions have a shift lever bolt that may not be properly tightened. As a result, the shift control lever could disengage from the transmission without warning.
- Consequence: If the shift lever disengages from the transmission, a driver may be unable to shift gear positions and the indicated shift position may not represent the gear position the vehicle is in. Should a disengagement occur while the vehicle is being driven, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, the gear selection indicator may show that the transmission is in the "PARK" position, but the vehicle transmission may not actually be in the "PARK" gear position. If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the transmissions and either tighten the manual shift lever bolt or replace the manual shift lever assembly. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on October 23, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S28.

Vehicle year: 2011
The back up camera in the rear view mirror is a great feature. Despite the lack of grab bars and mechanical lock release in the back seat, we are thoroughly enjoying our new premier V6 car with leather seats, dual climate, rear view back up camera and moon roof. We have previously owned a 2005 Toyota Highlander, which had a nicer interior but lacked modern amenities. While my husband feels that the car has a truck-like feel due to its higher seating position and slightly longer front, I believe that it adds to the SUV experience. We decided to try Mercury as my dad has always been a Ford buyer and we have had good experiences with their longevity.

Great car to drive! It's comfortable, hugs the road, and is both quiet and fun. I got the Moon roof and it was definitely worth the extra cost. I'm getting 27 mpg back and forth (12 miles) to work and 31+ mpg on the interstate. :)

I used to drive a Toyota Corolla and I thought it was a great car. However, since I started driving the compact Mariner, I have fallen in love with its handling and the fact that it sits higher. It's a really nice car!

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with the Mariner. This is actually my second time leasing this vehicle, and I have to say that I absolutely love it! On highway trips, I'm able to get a solid 26 MPG even when driving at 75 mph. I was so excited about this that I even sent a picture text to my dealer to prove it! I hope he uses this information for future customers. I haven't had any problems with comfort, reliability, or safety, and the commercial that came out with the husband and wife fighting over the Mariner was exactly what my husband and I do on a constant basis. I think he loves it even more than I do. Thank you for taking the time to read about my experience!

I purchased a brand new 2008 Mercury Mariner from Malloy Auto Mall in Woodbridge, VA. Unfortunately, in 2009, the transmission began to skip gears. However, I was relieved to find that it was fixed under warranty. In 2010, I had to take it back to the shop for the transmission again, but this time it was not covered by warranty and cost over $800 to fix. In 2011, I had to take it back to the shop for the same issue, and this time it cost $2235 to fix it. Despite my disappointment, I believe that this issue is specific to my vehicle and does not reflect the quality of the Mercury Mariner as a whole. I encourage potential buyers to do their research and make an informed decision.

Hello! I, like many others, had an issue with the transmission cooler leak, which was fixed. Unfortunately, my transmission is now out. I have 65,000 miles on my vehicle and had to buy a new transmission. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem or if I just got a lemon. I haven't had any other problems until I noticed the leak, which I got fixed immediately. However, a month later, my transmission started slipping. I couldn't believe it. I am disappointed with my FORD vehicle and will not be purchasing another one. It seems like they don't take pride in their vehicles, especially since they only offer a 60,000 mile warranty instead of the 100,000 miles that other competitors offer. If anyone else has had this problem, please let me know. Thank you!

I love this car! I bought it fresh out of college in 2006 and I have absolutely no complaints. While it may not be the flashiest car on the road, I pat myself on the back every time I get behind the wheel. I strongly disagree with any owner that criticizes engine power because for the size and amount of money, this thing has some serious punch to it. I have driven almost 40,000 miles and have had no mechanical issues whatsoever. Overall, I rate this car as extremely dependable, practical and a great every-day ride. In fact, my best friend loved mine so much that she bought one too!

This vehicle is a lot of fun to drive and has great gas mileage, getting up to 27.9 mpg on the highway. While the 4 cylinder engine may run a bit rough at idle in an effort to maximize fuel efficiency, it's a small price to pay for such great mileage. I did experience an issue with the computer controlling the transmission, which caused the car to downshift 2 gears on the highway, but thankfully the dealer was able to fix it the same day by resetting the computer. Apparently, this is a common problem with '09 models. With 6,000 miles on it, I truly enjoy driving this car, but it's important to be careful at high speeds as it can feel a bit unstable. Overall, I would recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for a fuel-efficient and enjoyable ride.

I got this vehicle after driving a Mountaineer for 6 years. While the Mariner was a little disappointing in comparison, I did get a great deal on it. The gas mileage and comfort are both okay, but the drive can be a bit noisy at times. Unfortunately, even though I got the 'flex fuel' model, I haven't been able to find any flex fuel in my area of the country. It's a bit frustrating, but overall I'm still happy with my purchase.
