- Summary: Months back there were times the power steering would go out, it would be for short amount of times and always came back. As of 40+ days ago the power steering has totally gone out and has not once come back. The dash says "power steering assist fault" The other issue is the wrench on the dash. It's normally after driving for quite some time. Even if there has been a break on the car while grocery shopping etc. when it comes on the car goes into limp mode. VERY DANGEROUS as we cannot tell when it'll happen. There has been multiple times the light turns green we take off, get to about 15-20MPH and she just stops. The dash reads to safetly pull over and I believe it says to shut off the car. This has been happening for 5+ months. There is also random over heating when that happens. This is based on how I remember it. Because of the safety issues I have not driven the vehicle. My husband drives it because he can handle no power steering better then me... Not that it's better for anyone to use..

No, but I spoke to someone at Ford and they said that it sounded like my car should be in the recall that was announced for my vehicle type but my VIN was not included in the recall. My car has not been inspected by anyone but it says right on the dash board digital display that there is a "Power Steering Assist Fault". Ford does this with many vehicles they recall, a lot of vehicles that should be included in the recalls are not and we're supposed to foot the bill for their lack of concern for public safety? It's going to cause an accident but it's my only working car and I can't afford to pay for their mistakes. How many have died due to their negligence I'm wondering.

This is our 3rd Mercury and we have noticed a significant improvement from the Monterey to the Mariner. It drives more like a car and handles like one too. Plus, it's incredibly comfortable! We opted for the premier with leather and heated seats, and we highly recommend it. Despite being an SUV, the gas mileage isn't all that bad - we're getting 18 mpg in the city, which is the same as what we were getting with a mini-van. Overall, we highly recommend this SUV.

Even though I was coming from a minivan, I don't feel like I am missing anything. The quality is outstanding, and I have absolutely no regrets!

Sadly, I only had my Mariner for 3 months when I was in an accident and totaled it. Luckily, I walked away with no injuries, which is why I will be purchasing one again. I've never felt more safe in this vehicle. It's very comfortable and has a smooth ride. I loved the extra features such as Reverse Assistance, information system, stock AMP, heated leather seats, moonroof, and keyless entry.

It's perfect for me as a mother and as a woman. The location is great, with easy access and good visibility. The storage is ample and it's easy to get in and out of, especially with my 6-year-old. We absolutely love the premier features, such as the leather heated seats and side impact airbags. Although I also own a sporty Pontiac G6, I feel overall safer in my Mariner, and it doesn't hurt that it's sleek and stylish too. I'm already planning to purchase the new body style of the same make and model for my next vehicle. Thank you, Mercury, for meeting my high standards and particular wants and needs.

As a supervisor in the construction industry, I was searching for a vehicle that could conquer any terrain, including snowy mountains. I am thrilled to say that I found exactly what I was looking for! The V6 Premium model that I purchased not only exceeded my expectations but also surpassed larger vehicles on the road. I highly recommend considering the premium model, as it is more affordable than one might assume. I plan to keep this vehicle until it can no longer run. Previously, I owned a Chevy Tracker and a Mercury Tracer, but neither of them compare to the quality and performance of this vehicle. I love it just as much as I loved my Tracer.

The 2009 Chrysler Mariner owned by my mother has been experiencing transmission issues since the beginning, such as rough shifting, jerking into gear, and lagging between gears. Despite having taken it to the Chrysler shop at least 8 times, the issue has never been resolved. Even when it was obvious that the car was not shifting properly, they claimed that they could not find anything wrong. Although we have been able to get a diagnosis, the car would only be fixed for a week before malfunctioning again. Unfortunately, the company is now refusing to pay for any further repairs. Due to the company's lack of commitment to resolving issues and the car's frequent visits to the shop, it has become a hindrance to our daily lives and is not worth the investment.

Although the gas mileage and transmission could use some improvement, I cannot stress enough how impressed I am with the safety features of this car. Recently, I was hit from behind by a drag racing Honda going over 65 mph. Thanks to the side curtain airbags, side impact airbags, and seatbelts, I walked away from the accident with only a little whiplash. Even though my car is probably a total loss with buckled floors and creased roof, it took the hit fantastically.

We purchased this car back in August 2009 and unfortunately, we have had some issues with the transmission. We have taken it to the dealer on three separate occasions, but the problem persists. The first time, they reprogrammed the computer, and the second time, they had to do it again due to a recall. However, when we took it in this week, they were unable to reproduce the issue during testing, so they were unable to fix it. It has been a frustrating experience, and we feel that this is the worst car we have ever owned. Occasionally, the RPM jumps to 6000 on the highway, causing the car to stop working, which can be dangerous. However, we have found that restarting the car resolves the issue. Unfortunately, the dealer has not been able to help us solve the problem. We appreciate your understanding and assistance in resolving this issue.

This car looks great and is built really nicely, but unfortunately, I found the drive to be quite forgettable. I had some trouble getting Sync to work, so I've decided to trade it in for something else.

I purchased a brand new 2008 Mercury Mariner from Malloy Auto Mall in Woodbridge, VA. Unfortunately, in 2009, the transmission began to skip gears. However, I was relieved to find that it was fixed under warranty. In 2010, I had to take it back to the shop for the transmission again, but this time it was not covered by warranty and cost over $800 to fix. In 2011, I had to take it back to the shop for the same issue, and this time it cost $2235 to fix it. Despite my disappointment, I believe that this issue is specific to my vehicle and does not reflect the quality of the Mercury Mariner as a whole. I encourage potential buyers to do their research and make an informed decision.
