  • Date Complaint: 2024-04-27
  • VIN: 4M2CU29309K
  • Components: STEERING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Months back there were times the power steering would go out, it would be for short amount of times and always came back. As of 40+ days ago the power steering has totally gone out and has not once come back. The dash says "power steering assist fault" The other issue is the wrench on the dash. It's normally after driving for quite some time. Even if there has been a break on the car while grocery shopping etc. when it comes on the car goes into limp mode. VERY DANGEROUS as we cannot tell when it'll happen. There has been multiple times the light turns green we take off, get to about 15-20MPH and she just stops. The dash reads to safetly pull over and I believe it says to shut off the car. This has been happening for 5+ months. There is also random over heating when that happens. This is based on how I remember it. Because of the safety issues I have not driven the vehicle. My husband drives it because he can handle no power steering better then me... Not that it's better for anyone to use..

Mercury Mariner 2010
  • Date Of Incident: 2023-10-01
  • Date Complaint: 2024-02-04
  • VIN: 4M2CN9HG9AK
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: The power steering assist is malfunctioning and it is available for inspection upon request. The steering wheel is very difficult to turn, it's as if the power steering assist is keeping the wheel from turning. No, but I spoke to someone at Ford and they said that it sounded like my car should be in the recall that was announced for my vehicle type but my VIN was not included in the recall. My car has not been inspected by anyone but it says right on the dash board digital display that there is a "Power Steering Assist Fault". Ford does this with many vehicles they recall, a lot of vehicles that should be included in the recalls are not and we're supposed to foot the bill for their lack of concern for public safety? It's going to cause an accident but it's my only working car and I can't afford to pay for their mistakes. How many have died due to their negligence I'm wondering.

  • Model: Mercury Mariner 2007
  • Report Received Date: 2015-09-29
  • Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
  • Components: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:FLOOR SHIFT
  • Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2001-2008 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner vehicles manufactured March 31, 2001, to September 1, 2009. The affected vehicles are equipped with either a 2.3L or 3.0L engine and have had their CD4E transmission replaced with remanufactured one that was rebuilt between June 11, 2015 through July 15, 2015. These service repair part transmissions have a shift lever bolt that may not be properly tightened. As a result, the shift control lever could disengage from the transmission without warning.
  • Consequence: If the shift lever disengages from the transmission, a driver may be unable to shift gear positions and the indicated shift position may not represent the gear position the vehicle is in. Should a disengagement occur while the vehicle is being driven, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, the gear selection indicator may show that the transmission is in the "PARK" position, but the vehicle transmission may not actually be in the "PARK" gear position. If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
  • Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the transmissions and either tighten the manual shift lever bolt or replace the manual shift lever assembly. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on October 23, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S28.

Latest negative Mercury Mariner car reviews

  1. Loy Rolfson 2024-11-14

    Vehicle year: 2011

I got this vehicle after driving a Mountaineer for 6 years. While the Mariner was a little disappointing in comparison, I did get a great deal on it. The gas mileage and comfort are both okay, but the drive can be a bit noisy at times. Unfortunately, even though I got the 'flex fuel' model, I haven't been able to find any flex fuel in my area of the country. It's a bit frustrating, but overall I'm still happy with my purchase.

  2. Brooks Mohr 2024-11-12

    Vehicle year: 2008

I purchased the 2008 Mercury Mariner in March 2007, but unfortunately, I have had a number of issues with it. During the first year, the car would stall without warning, and despite bringing it to the dealer, they were unable to find anything wrong with it. It took two additional visits before the issue was finally resolved. More recently, while driving on Interstate 80 at around 65 mph, the car stalled again without warning and slowed down rapidly. As a result, I have lost confidence in the reliability of this vehicle and will not be purchasing a Mercury, Lincoln or Ford again. I would advise others to steer clear of this model.

  3. Laverna Robel 2024-09-18

    Vehicle year: 2006

I bought this car used and was impressed with its overall style from the first sight. The car runs excellently and the sound system meets standards. However, I found the seat warmer buttons to be inconveniently placed, as the passenger seat automatically turns on when someone gets in. Additionally, the car can be quite loud and takes all bumps, big or small, very hard. Unfortunately, there seems to be no give in the suspension or shocks when riding over anything that disrupts the smoothness of the asphalt. Furthermore, it does not handle water very well and tends to hydroplane even in the smallest amount of water. I would not recommend it for any type of off-roading. Lastly, the fuel mileage is very poor.

  4. Clement Lebsack 2024-09-17

    Vehicle year: 2011

In November 2009, I purchased a Mercury Mariner. Unfortunately, in January, the car began to make a squealing noise when started in certain temperatures. Despite taking the car back to the dealer four times and contacting Ford customer care, the issue remains unresolved. However, I am confident that a solution can be found and I will continue to pursue a resolution. It is important to me that my vehicle operates smoothly and I am willing to take the necessary steps to ensure that it does.

  5. Lucas Harris 2024-08-21

    Vehicle year: 2009

Hello! I wanted to share some information with you that you might find helpful. It turns out that the capless fuel system that Ford has been installing on nearly all its vehicles for the past two years can sometimes leak when you top off the gas tank. My dealership confirmed this issue in both 2009 and 2010 models. While Ford will not make any repairs for this, they do advise customers not to top off the gas tank. I hope this information helps!

    Vehicle year: 2007

I've been driving a Lexus SC400 for the past eight years. However, after purchasing a home on a hill, I realized that my car wasn't practical for hauling anything for the house, and it was useless in the snow. That's why I decided to switch to an SUV. Although I was hesitant at first, I'm thrilled with my choice of the Mercury Mariner. I'm really enjoying the look and feel of the Mariner, as well as the attention to detail in both the exterior and interior. The SUV feels incredibly solid and has a smooth ride. I'm excited to see how the Mariner handles in the Seattle rain and snow.

  2. Larry Swaniawski 2024-11-29

    Vehicle year: 2011

I love the car, but I always find dealing with dealerships and mechanics frustrating and contentious. It's just one of those things, isn't it?

  3. Ricky Schmeler 2024-11-29

    Vehicle year: 2007

I really like this car, but I do wish the mileage was better. I've been doing a lot of driving lately and I think a hybrid would have been a better choice. I was told it would pay for itself, but unfortunately the cost of gasoline has gone up a lot since I bought this car. It gets around 20-22 mpg in town and 22-24 mpg on the road.

  4. Liam Stark 2024-11-26

    Vehicle year: 2010

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share that my wife and I have been on the hunt for a new ride. She's been driving a 2005 Escape and absolutely loves it! We recently checked out the New Highlander, Venza, CRV, and new Escape, but none of them quite fit the bill. The new Escape felt a bit cramped for longer trips, the Highlander was too big, the Venza was too expensive with its 20

  5. Garth Ward 2024-11-25

    Vehicle year: 2008

I really love this car! It's been a while since I've been excited about a car, but this one makes me very happy. It gets great gas mileage, with 32mpg on the highway and 26-28mpg in the city! Even my husband, who is just under 7ft tall, can drive and sit in the car very comfortably. And when he's in the driver's seat, there's still plenty of leg room in the back seat. It drives great on the highway, and I've put a lot of highway miles on it. My son has already claimed it for when he gets his license. Plus, it has super cargo room! It's sporty, fun, and very economical to drive. I really think they should promote this vehicle more aggressively!
