Transmission Issues

Transmission issues have been reported by Mercedes-Benz Metris owners, particularly for the 2016 model year. This issue may be a common failure on these vans, and it is important for owners to have their transmission checked regularly to ensure that it is functioning properly. The cost and frequency of maintenance intervals for the transmission may vary depending on the specific model year and other factors.

Warranty Considerations

When considering the purchase of a Mercedes-Benz Metris, it is important to consider the warranty options available. Some owners have reported that the MB warranty is worth the investment, particularly for those who plan to keep the vehicle for an extended period of time. The MB warranty can provide peace of mind and protection against unexpected repairs and maintenance costs. However, the cost and coverage of the warranty may vary depending on the specific model year and other factors.

In conclusion, while the Mercedes-Benz Metris is a capable and versatile vehicle, it is not immune to issues and complaints from owners. Some of the most common problems reported by Mercedes-Benz Metris owners include rainwater flooding the engine, a gasoline smell in and around the vehicle, and transmission issues. Negative 2019 Mercedes-benz Metris car reviews

  1. Floyd Kihn 2025-10-17

We have five kids and travel frequently. We purchased a 2016 Metris in North Carolina and had it upfitted by Explorer Van in Indiana. We added a higher roof, carpeted floors, leather seats, a TV, and speakers. We absolutely adore the upfitting! However, we have had to spend a lot of money on this car in just three years. We have experienced numerous issues, including three sets of tires and alignment problems. Unfortunately, we were not aware of these issues. Our A/C failed just after our warranty expired, which was an expensive fix. We also had a leaky fuel valve that filled our car with the smell of gas. Fortunately, it was fixed at no cost and has since been part of a recall. Our most recent issue was a small engine problem that I didn't understand, which cost over $1200 to fix. During my last conversation with my service representative, they suggested that I should consider purchasing a newer vehicle. They also informed me that I needed a transmission service before the end of the summer, which would cost $500. Although this car is prone to transmission problems, I am still undecided about whether to sell it and look for something else. I love the convenience of the sliding doors, tons of trunk space (but manual lift gate - super heavy, btw), and lots of leg room in both back rows. However, I am hesitant to keep it due to the amount of money I have spent on repairs.

I rented this van a month ago and unfortunately experienced some issues with it. Despite my concerns, the dealer did not take me seriously at first. However, after insisting that they change the van, they did so. I drove the new van for a couple of weeks, but unfortunately experienced another issue while driving on a bridge with passengers in the van. This was a scary experience for my riders and has left me feeling uneasy about the safety of the van. I believe it would be best to avoid renting a Mercedes Benz Metris until the issue has been resolved. Other drivers have also reported similar issues, and mechanics have suggested that it may be a transmission issue. Given that I drove the van for 30 days on various roads and highways, I believe that it is important to evaluate the situation and address any potential safety concerns.

  3. Isac Ferry 2025-10-02

My boss recently purchased two Metris vans, a 2018 and a 2019. Unfortunately, the 2019 van has experienced some issues, such as a vibrating roof and bald tires. Additionally, the check oil light came on when the van was under 15k miles and it started to cut out, resulting in a misfire on cylinder 1. Although the dealer replaced the plug coil, the check engine light has come on again. As for the 2018 van, it has had some problems with eating tires and alignment issues, as well as steering problems. Unfortunately, the 2018 van caught fire and was a total loss. We are currently working to resolve these issues and ensure that our fleet is in top condition.

  4. Ernest Casper 2025-09-29

We have purchased 9 Metris vans so far, but unfortunately, we have encountered several issues with them. All vans have been driven for 15k miles or less. We have experienced problems with the transmission shifter, electronic systems, climate control, display, and engine lights. We have also faced issues with tires and alignment, and the maintenance alerts on display have been incorrect. It's important to note that the 15k mile service interval is not entirely accurate. We have had difficulty dealing with the MB dealerships in our major metroplex, but we have found one good dealership out of state, although it is limited by the warranty and parts. We are hoping to find a solution to these issues soon. Thank you for your understanding.

  5. Tremayne Boyle 2025-08-11

I like it! However, I must admit that the seats are not the most comfortable for long distance travel.

Positive 2019 Mercedes-benz Metris car reviews

  1. Eliseo Cummings 2025-10-28

At first, I was a little scared due to the size of the vehicle. However, after driving it for 1,000 miles, I became very comfortable behind the wheel. I absolutely LOVE this van! Today, it was extremely windy, but the crosswind assist feature was amazing. The van drove through the crosswinds like no other vehicle I have owned. I also appreciate the safety features. Two drivers tried to 'brake check' me for no reason (probably staged for insurance), but the van stopped on its own. I am new to the safety sensors as my previous vehicles were older. This will probably be the last vehicle I purchase, and I want it to last a LONG time :) If I do purchase another vehicle due to boredom after 10+ years, I will buy a HUGE Metris version just because it's awesome.

  2. Fernando Bernhard 2025-10-20

This van is a great purchase due to its perfect size, good quality, and nice ride. The manufacturer's incentive made it even more worth the extra money. Although I would have liked a few more options, the dealers did not have vans with the extra safety features in stock. The only downside is that the mirrors are a bit small, and adding a stick-on mirror is not a good option. However, the ride is nice, handling is great, and noise is minimal. It would be even better if it had FWD or AWD for northern climates.

  3. Garland Nolan 2025-08-03

After waiting 8 months for my order to arrive, I finally received my van and I am extremely satisfied with it. The comfort level is exceptional for a van, which is not surprising considering it's a Mercedes car with a metal box on it. The handling is decent and I was able to achieve 28+ mpg at an average speed of 60 miles per hour on a country highway. The vehicle feels solid and is a pleasure to travel in. I have driven it for 9000 miles and have not experienced any issues. It is very stable in high winds and provides a quiet and comfortable ride. Although I have worn out two $250 front tires in 23,000 miles, I believe this is a common problem due to the factory's sloppy job and the dealer's inadequate preparation. Despite my email requesting a reimbursement for the first tire and alignment responses, Mercedes has not responded. Overall, I am confident in the quality of my Metris and highly recommend it.

  4. Domenic Fritsch 2025-06-13

We absolutely love our Metris! I purchased it for three main reasons. Firstly, it easily fits through our 83The price of a similarly equipped Metris for 2019 is noticeably higher than my 2016 with few, or any, real changes or improvements. However, I understand that Mercedes-Benz is always striving to improve their vehicles and offer the best quality to their customers. I do think that the Metris could benefit from a real limited-slip rear differential for dual-wheel traction, but I also acknowledge that MB's electronically controlled individual rear-wheel braking is a step in the right direction to prevent fish-tailing. Overall, I appreciate the effort that Mercedes-Benz puts into their vehicles and I look forward to seeing future improvements.

  5. Karson Herman 2025-04-05

This is a great multi-use vehicle that is perfect for camping, day trips, home center purchases, and daily driving. The van is functional and versatile, with a clean and minimalistic style both inside and outside. The rear wheel drive provides a lighter steering feel, and the towing and load capacity are impressive. The powertrain is very peppy and fuel efficient, making it a joy to drive. The comfortable seating sits up higher, making for a non-fatiguing driving experience. Overall, this van is not a family hauler, but it is a perfect size for our needs. We recently got rid of our diesel cars and this van runs on regular fuel.
