The Mercedes-Benz Metris, introduced in 2016, is a versatile and capable vehicle that has been praised for its performance and utility. However, like any vehicle, it is not immune to issues and complaints from owners. Here are some of the most common problems reported by Mercedes-Benz Metris owners, based on search results from various sources.

Rain Water Flooded Engine

One of the most serious issues reported by Mercedes-Benz Metris owners is the problem of rainwater flooding the engine.

Gasoline Smell In and Around Vehicle

Another common issue reported by Mercedes-Benz Metris owners is the problem of a gasoline smell in and around the vehicle. This issue has been reported primarily by owners of the 2016 model year, although it may affect other model years as well. The problem is caused by a leak in the fuel system, which can lead to a strong gasoline odor both inside and outside the vehicle. The average cost to fix this issue is not available, with an average mileage of 29,000 miles.

Transmission Issues

Transmission issues have been reported by Mercedes-Benz Metris owners, particularly for the 2016 model year. Some owners have reported that the transmission sometimes jerks forward, which can be a bit scary and potentially dangerous. This issue may be a common failure on these vans, and it is important for owners to have their transmission checked regularly to ensure that it is functioning properly. The cost and frequency of maintenance intervals for the transmission may vary depending on the specific model year and other factors.

Warranty Considerations

When considering the purchase of a Mercedes-Benz Metris, it is important to consider the warranty options available. Some owners have reported that the MB warranty is worth the investment, particularly for those who plan to keep the vehicle for an extended period of time. The MB warranty can provide peace of mind and protection against unexpected repairs and maintenance costs. However, the cost and coverage of the warranty may vary depending on the specific model year and other factors.

In conclusion, while the Mercedes-Benz Metris is a capable and versatile vehicle, it is not immune to issues and complaints from owners. Some of the most common problems reported by Mercedes-Benz Metris owners include rainwater flooding the engine, a gasoline smell in and around the vehicle, and transmission issues. It is important for owners to be aware of these issues and to have their vehicle checked regularly to ensure that it is functioning properly. Negative 2019 Mercedes-benz Metris car reviews

  1. Brody Haley 2024-09-27

Hi there! We've been using our Metris cargo van for our business, driving it about 3 days a week and covering 47k miles so far. We usually carry around 400 lbs of cargo, which has been quite manageable. While we've had a few issues with the van, such as needing to replace the tires and aligning it a few times, we've been able to get them resolved. We did have to replace the strut bushing at 25k miles, and unfortunately, it's gone bad again now that it's out of warranty. We're also experiencing some issues with the A/C and wipers, but we're confident we'll be able to get them sorted out. We've found some helpful discussions on the Metris forum, and while the dealership has been less than helpful, we're grateful for any assistance we can get. Thanks for taking the time to read our story!

The Metris may not be the best option for everyone. I have personally experienced some issues with my own vehicle. It may not be fair to compare it directly to Chevrolet and Ford. However, it's important to consider your own needs and preferences before making a purchase. Ultimately, the decision is yours to make.

Positive 2019 Mercedes-benz Metris car reviews

  1. Edwardo Carter 2025-01-09

As a contractor, I lead a busy life. My Metris cargo van is a reliable companion that can carry all my tools, ladders, and steel tool cabinets without any worries of overloading. The van's engine is outstanding and has plenty of power to spare. Additionally, it has an amazing turning radius that makes it easy to maneuver in tight spaces. I opted for a few extras, including cargo interior panels, wood flooring, trailer hitch, and a driver convenience package, which brought the price to $30,000. I also added an aftermarket roof rack, and with a small modification, the van now fits in my 7' garage with two full-size extension ladders. Previously, I owned a Ram Promaster City, but with the weight I was carrying, I felt like I was torturing it. I traded it in with 30k miles before I ruined it. Although the Metris requires 91 octane fuel, I am happy to treat it to anything it asks for because I LOVE THIS METRIS!

  2. Mitchell Daugherty 2024-11-16

I recently purchased an Explorer Conversion van on a 2017 chassis and have had the pleasure of taking it on three cross-country road trips from NY. During these trips, I had the opportunity to visit many of the Lower 48 National Parks, national monuments, state parks, museums, and other attractions. Despite driving through the major US deserts and experiencing occasional strong lateral winds, the engine has performed without any issues. Even in extreme temperatures of 110+ degrees Fahrenheit, the A/C worked perfectly fine. While driving uphill during rain and changing from 'C' to 'E' mode, I once received a Check Engine Light, but after pulling over, restarting the engine, the CEL turned off. Although I experienced a dashboard rattle during the first year of ownership, it fortunately went away about two years ago, and now the van is very quiet. During my most recent trip, a small round hole in the windshield center developed into a visible crack on the passenger side. However, thanks to Geico and Safelite, the windshield was replaced in Helena Mt in just a couple of hours - a miracle for me!

  3. Tevin Murazik 2024-11-01

I purchased this van brand new in May of 2017. As a medical courier, I frequently transported large, heavy loads, with a driving split of 60% highway and 40% city. I diligently followed all maintenance recommendations, and even after being retired for nearly two years, this vehicle has an impressive 253,000 miles on the odometer. The oil was changed every 15,000 miles (and once a year since retiring), and the only repairs needed were a fuel vapor canister and a new seal on the oil pan. Everything else has been regular maintenance. The brakes need replacing at 80 to 90 thousand mile intervals, and I have often hauled up to and over 2,500 lbs. Since new, my fuel mileage has averaged between 25-26 MPG (the fuel mileage on the van always shows I get a bit more, but the app I use does the actual math for accurate readings). I am extremely pleased with this vehicle. It has a very tight turning radius and is easy to maneuver in tight spots. I love driving this van and always feel very comfortable. It feels like home! As of 2023, I have driven it up to 263,000 miles. Last summer, I took a trip from Oregon to Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming, and averaged 28.5 mpg for the 2273 mile trip. I am taking it to the dealer next week as it appears that a new thermostat is needed. When it is cold early in the day, it heats up just fine, but as soon as I start going downhill the temp needle drops. At this mileage, I accept that a replacement may be warranted. This is still the most trouble-free vehicle I have ever owned, and I hope it keeps rolling for a few more years. I do not drive like I'm racing, I go close to the speed limit and drive carefully - (much different than when I was 40+ years ago!)

  4. Al Bernier 2024-10-11

This vehicle is perfect for long trips, as it has ample space for luggage, two dogs, and two cats. It is also great for moving, as it can accommodate beds, sofas, and over 50 boxes. Additionally, it is ideal for yard care. Furthermore, it performs well in rainy conditions, as it is generally above road spray.

  5. Geovanny Wisoky 2024-06-24

I've owned my Metris for about a year and I absolutely love it! As the owner of a wine touring company, it has been the perfect vehicle for couples and small groups. While it may be more utilitarian compared to other Mercedes Benzes, it certainly doesn't lack any important features. I find the way it drives to be fantastic, although I do need to sort out a rattle in one of the seats. The amount of space in the 3rd row is incredible and surpasses any other minivan or SUV in its category. I am so happy with my Metris that I am even considering buying a second one for my business!
