Sensor failure disables most safety features of vehicles including ABS, blind spot warning, assisted steering, and other safety features. THe failure causes notable issues with handling/steering and braking. Failure at highway speed impacts vehicle driving stability and increases the risk of a crash. Dealer previously repaired under warranty in October or November 2021. Unit failed in traffic at highway speed again in September 2022. Contacted dealer and was informed they are not scheduling maintenance appointments at this time and would not reimburse the cost of repair by an outside mechanic. They would also not acknowledge whether the vehicle is safe to drive and would not give an estimate on when they would be able to schedule a service appointment. They recommended transporting the vehicle to another city for service but implied they would not reimburse costs of doing so. Having most safety systems dependent on a poorly designed part with a high failure rate is not acceptable.

  • Summary: Hi, I was driving at highway speeds, about 80mph through West Texas where the speed limit is 80MPH. I was pulling a trailer, there was a 40'ish MPH side-wind blowing pushing the vehicle to the center divider. As I was passing a semi on the outside of a curve, as I came upon the bow wake, the vehicle was pushed towards the center divider and encountered the rumble strip. At which point the power steering malfunctioned and completely turned off, leaving only manual steering. There was an error on the display indicating power steering malfunction. It was an extreme driving environment, but within the limits of the law. With a lot of quick reaction, I was able to maintain control of the vehicle and continue on the the next safe location to stop, which was the next gas station. West Texas is fairly desolate, and stopping on the side of the road did not appear to be a safe option. After some web research we found this was not an isolated incident and it has been noted before, NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V595. Additional research indicated that rebooting the vehicle would in fact re-enable the power steering, which it did. We were able to complete our destination. If my wife was driving we would be dead, along with a few others, without a doubt. We contacted MB, we were told to have a dealership conduct am inspection, I will contact them to get an estimate. I have owned the van for 3.5 yrs, with about 52k on the odometer, this has never happened before, how on God's green earth is a dealership going to be able to anything besides read the computer and get the error message? Anomalous malfunctions are incredibly to difficult to detect, they only occur when a very unique combination of events coincide. I ask you to look at case NHTSA 17V595. My vehicle was made 2-3 months after that event, I believe more than 3 vehicles were effected and it is an ticking time bomb for the owners of the vehicles affected. God be with them, as He was with Us that moment.

    We have purchased 9 Metris vans so far, but unfortunately, we have encountered several issues with them. All vans have been driven for 15k miles or less. We have experienced problems with the transmission shifter, electronic systems, climate control, display, and engine lights. We have also faced issues with tires and alignment, and the maintenance alerts on display have been incorrect. It's important to note that the 15k mile service interval is not entirely accurate. We have had difficulty dealing with the MB dealerships in our major metroplex, but we have found one good dealership out of state, although it is limited by the warranty and parts. We are hoping to find a solution to these issues soon. Thank you for your understanding.

    I own the utility van 'worker' edition (bare bones folks!). There are several things to like about this van, such as the very comfortable driver seat and ride for a utility type van. The integrated Bluetooth makes smartphone integration easy, and it is a nice intermediate-sized van for tool storage, which is perfect for my construction work. The turbo makes accelerating at on-ramps easy for a small engine rig, and it has good fuel economy. However, there are some things that could be improved. The stock tires (Hankook) are terrible and dreadfully undermatched for the vehicle, and the suspension makes the van unstable at high speeds. It absolutely needs larger diameter wheels to make it a useful utility vehicle. The gear shift is located where the windshield wipers should be, which is classic Mercedes being 'different'. The windshield wiper is on the same lever as the turn signal, which can be annoying when accidentally actuating the wipers when signaling for a turn. The transmission is pretty herky-jerky until fully warmed up, and the light on/off switch is constantly bumped by the knee upon exit, changing the light setting. The only operational USB plug is in an awkward spot under the console. It is also difficult to add interior panels in the rear compartment unless purchasing MB brand, which can be expensive. The oil changes are also expensive, costing $300-400, and the wheel alignment can only be done at specialty providers, which can be costly. Additionally, the trailer wiring harness costs $300 if not done as a factory install. Despite these issues, I hope that this vehicle needs few repairs down the road. Perhaps most importantly, the suspension/wheels situation makes this a very poor choice for anything but the lightest duty of worker type vehicle. If these were beefed up, MB could really be on to something here. I will look at other options for my next van. Although I really wanted to like this vehicle, it is a daily struggle.

We have put 47k miles on it and have had to replace the tires three times, but we have received great support from the dealership during the warranty period.     We were thrilled the day we purchased our Metris from Mercedes-Benz of Fort Mitchell. As a family with five children, we were looking for a European-style van that was more efficiently engineered and could fit perfectly into our narrow garage. The utility van outfitted for passengers was perfect for us. Although it was the first year Mercedes started selling the Metris in the United States, we were excited to be one of the first families to own it. For months, we were the only ones on the road with a Metris and people would often ask us about it. We gave glowing reviews to many families and encouraged them to check it out. However, we have unfortunately had some problems with the Metris and we feel obligated to warn others. For three years, we have had recurring issues with the doors, the reverse camera, the engine, and more. The three-year warranty just ended a few months ago, and we were disappointed that Mercedes never offered us an extension plan. We believe that the Mercedes engineering quality of this vehicle is poor and they are trying to minimize the cost of these models. Despite these issues, we hope that our review is helpful to others.

    We absolutely love our Metris! I purchased it for three main reasons. Firstly, it easily fits through our 83The price of a similarly equipped Metris for 2019 is noticeably higher than my 2016 with few, or any, real changes or improvements. However, I understand that Mercedes-Benz is always striving to improve their vehicles and offer the best quality to their customers. I do think that the Metris could benefit from a real limited-slip rear differential for dual-wheel traction, but I also acknowledge that MB's electronically controlled individual rear-wheel braking is a step in the right direction to prevent fish-tailing. Overall, I appreciate the effort that Mercedes-Benz puts into their vehicles and I look forward to seeing future improvements.

    The van was borrowed from my mother, who put just under 3,000 miles on it in about 6 months. We took a family trip for 3 weeks, starting in Jacksonville, FL, going through DC, Hershey, Columbus and Dayton, Ohio, Dearborn, Michigan and back through NC before returning home; about 2,000 miles roundtrip. The first leg from Jax to DC was about 750 miles non-stop. After 4 hours, we needed to get a seat cushion for extra support. Although the seats are not very comfortable, even with the optional 'drivers comfort' package, both kids got their own seats for a change, so there was little complaining. Otherwise, the dated infotainment worked for our needs, and the navigation got us where we needed to go. The powertrain is excellent, with much more usable power than expected. The engine and transmission work especially well together to get and keep the van moving. The shifting is seamless if left alone; however, using the paddles to downshift can confuse the transmission for a second, not sure if it needs to be in a higher or lower gear. Once sorted, acceleration is great, and the cruise control is very responsive. We hit the usual DC area rush hour traffic, but the van made it much easier to navigate, much less stress. The MPG is impressive, getting about 25 overall on 87 octane, and we have been running it the entire trip without issue. Anyone considering one of these should keep the commercial roots in mind; any of the minivans or 3-row crossovers would be much better suited for comfort. However, for an overall package, you can't beat the overall utility. Finally, I got stuck in a dead-end street, about 2 lanes wide. Not wanting to back up into a busy street, I turned that van completely around without backing up; the turn circle is so tight you need to be mindful of curves. The backup camera could be better (limited field of vision, not very wide or deep behind), but the lines are helpful and kept us from damage.For a commercial van, it's impressively quiet and comfortable. The ride is very smooth, even on rough Maryland roads. I also appreciate the ability to easily sweep out the floor and wipe off the optional MBtex vinyl seats.

    After waiting 8 months for my order to arrive, I finally received my van and I am extremely satisfied with it. The comfort level is exceptional for a van, which is not surprising considering it's a Mercedes car with a metal box on it. The handling is decent and I was able to achieve 28+ mpg at an average speed of 60 miles per hour on a country highway. The vehicle feels solid and is a pleasure to travel in. I have driven it for 9000 miles and have not experienced any issues. It is very stable in high winds and provides a quiet and comfortable ride. Although I have worn out two $250 front tires in 23,000 miles, I believe this is a common problem due to the factory's sloppy job and the dealer's inadequate preparation. Despite my email requesting a reimbursement for the first tire and alignment responses, Mercedes has not responded. Overall, I am confident in the quality of my Metris and highly recommend it.

The van is functional and versatile, with a clean and minimalistic style both inside and outside. The rear wheel drive provides a lighter steering feel, and the towing and load capacity are impressive. The powertrain is very peppy and fuel efficient, making it a joy to drive. The comfortable seating sits up higher, making for a non-fatiguing driving experience. Overall, this van is not a family hauler, but it is a perfect size for our needs.     This van is a great purchase due to its perfect size, good quality, and nice ride. The manufacturer's incentive made it even more worth the extra money. Although I would have liked a few more options, the dealers did not have vans with the extra safety features in stock. The only downside is that the mirrors are a bit small, and adding a stick-on mirror is not a good option. However, the ride is nice, handling is great, and noise is minimal. It would be even better if it had FWD or AWD for northern climates.
