Common 2018 Mercedes-benz Metris problems
The Mercedes-Benz Metris, introduced in 2018, has been criticized by owners for several common problems. These issues range from weak acceleration to a lack of practicality, as well as concerns with the low-pressure fuel pump and the quality of the interior features.
Weak Acceleration
One of the most significant complaints about the Mercedes-Benz Metris is its weak acceleration. The 2018 Metris has a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produces 208 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, which is mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission
. While the handling of the vehicle is considered acceptable for a van, the acceleration is weak, earning a score of 1 out of 10 in a review by Doug DeMuro
. This can make merging onto highways and passing other vehicles difficult and potentially dangerous.
Lack of Practicality
The Mercedes-Benz Metris also falls short in terms of practicality. With only 38 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats in place, it has significantly less storage space than its competitors, such as the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna, which offer 158.8 cubic feet and 150 cubic feet, respectively
. This lack of cargo space can make it challenging for owners to transport large items or accommodate multiple passengers.
Low-Pressure Fuel Pump
Another common problem with the Mercedes-Benz Metris is related to the low-pressure fuel pump. A Metris owner reported that their vehicle experienced an issue with the low-pressure fuel pump, which resulted in too low a fuel pressure. The tech had to drop the fuel tank to inspect and potentially replace the low-pressure fuel pump, leading to a significant inconvenience for the owner.
Interior Features
The interior features of the Mercedes-Benz Metris have also been criticized by owners. The sat-nav system, in particular, has been described as looking like it's from 10 years ago, with a screen that appears outdated and unappealing. Additionally, the vehicle lacks some of the creature comforts and technology found in other minivans, such as built-in video monitors for passengers and advanced safety features.
In conclusion, the Mercedes-Benz Metris has several common problems that have been reported by owners. These issues include weak acceleration, a lack of practicality, concerns with the low-pressure fuel pump, and criticisms of the interior features. These problems can make the Metris a less appealing choice for those in the market for a minivan, particularly when compared to its competitors.

STEERING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-25
- VIN: WD4PG2EE0J3
- Components: STEERING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: Wheel speed sensors appear to fail on a routine basis (every 0-10 months), similar to the subject of recall 21V-042 on Sprinter vans. Sensor failure disables most safety features of vehicles including ABS, blind spot warning, assisted steering, and other safety features. THe failure causes notable issues with handling/steering and braking. Failure at highway speed impacts vehicle driving stability and increases the risk of a crash. Dealer previously repaired under warranty in October or November 2021. Unit failed in traffic at highway speed again in September 2022. Contacted dealer and was informed they are not scheduling maintenance appointments at this time and would not reimburse the cost of repair by an outside mechanic. They would also not acknowledge whether the vehicle is safe to drive and would not give an estimate on when they would be able to schedule a service appointment. They recommended transporting the vehicle to another city for service but implied they would not reimburse costs of doing so. Having most safety systems dependent on a poorly designed part with a high failure rate is not acceptable.
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-04-03
- VIN: WD3PG2EA4J3
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: Hi, I was driving at highway speeds, about 80mph through West Texas where the speed limit is 80MPH. I was pulling a trailer, there was a 40'ish MPH side-wind blowing pushing the vehicle to the center divider. As I was passing a semi on the outside of a curve, as I came upon the bow wake, the vehicle was pushed towards the center divider and encountered the rumble strip. At which point the power steering malfunctioned and completely turned off, leaving only manual steering. There was an error on the display indicating power steering malfunction. It was an extreme driving environment, but within the limits of the law. With a lot of quick reaction, I was able to maintain control of the vehicle and continue on the the next safe location to stop, which was the next gas station. West Texas is fairly desolate, and stopping on the side of the road did not appear to be a safe option. After some web research we found this was not an isolated incident and it has been noted before, NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V595. Additional research indicated that rebooting the vehicle would in fact re-enable the power steering, which it did. We were able to complete our destination. If my wife was driving we would be dead, along with a few others, without a doubt. We contacted MB, we were told to have a dealership conduct am inspection, I will contact them to get an estimate. I have owned the van for 3.5 yrs, with about 52k on the odometer, this has never happened before, how on God's green earth is a dealership going to be able to anything besides read the computer and get the error message? Anomalous malfunctions are incredibly to difficult to detect, they only occur when a very unique combination of events coincide. I ask you to look at case NHTSA 17V595. My vehicle was made 2-3 months after that event, I believe more than 3 vehicles were effected and it is an ticking time bomb for the owners of the vehicles affected. God be with them, as He was with Us that moment.

I really like this van! It's huge, yet fuel efficient for its size. It handles very well, although the brakes could be improved. The van is very robust and has great safety features. Although I do bump my knees getting in, like every other van, and the steering column doesn't telescope as far as I need, it's still pretty comfortable. On the downside, the radio and navigation are difficult to use, like every other Mercedes. You would think they would have figured this out by now. The cloth seats hold dog hair like nothing I've ever seen, but they are very rugged. The view from the backup camera is poor, especially at night, and the radio controls are hard to reach and use. The rear seat does not fold into the floor, and the seats are heavy. However, with a few changes, I believe this van could easily outperform the smaller Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey. Overall, this is a fantastic van for the money!

I recently purchased an Explorer Conversion van on a 2017 chassis and have had the pleasure of taking it on three cross-country road trips from NY. During these trips, I had the opportunity to visit many of the Lower 48 National Parks, national monuments, state parks, museums, and other attractions. Despite driving through the major US deserts and experiencing occasional strong lateral winds, the engine has performed without any issues. Even in extreme temperatures of 110+ degrees Fahrenheit, the A/C worked perfectly fine. While driving uphill during rain and changing from 'C' to 'E' mode, I once received a Check Engine Light, but after pulling over, restarting the engine, the CEL turned off. Although I experienced a dashboard rattle during the first year of ownership, it fortunately went away about two years ago, and now the van is very quiet. During my most recent trip, a small round hole in the windshield center developed into a visible crack on the passenger side. However, thanks to Geico and Safelite, the windshield was replaced in Helena Mt in just a couple of hours - a miracle for me!

Passenger van, never carry any cargo. 42k miles it is already on the 3rd sets of tires. I had continental and Michelin tires. Each With 50k+ miles ratings. No tires last more than 20k on this van. All dealers maintained and rotating wheels regularly. Now it has a recall on the wrong specification of tires installed from manufacturers. the newer model use 235 vs 225 on older model.

I've owned my Metris for about a year and I absolutely love it! As the owner of a wine touring company, it has been the perfect vehicle for couples and small groups. While it may be more utilitarian compared to other Mercedes Benzes, it certainly doesn't lack any important features. I find the way it drives to be fantastic, although I do need to sort out a rattle in one of the seats. The amount of space in the 3rd row is incredible and surpasses any other minivan or SUV in its category. I am so happy with my Metris that I am even considering buying a second one for my business!

The cargo van has been performing well with 60,000 miles on it. However, there are a few issues that have been bothering me. For instance, when I start and turn off the van, it takes about 30 seconds for the A/C to start blowing out of the vents, which can be brutal in South Florida. Additionally, the local Mercedes Benz dealership charges $300 for an oil change, but I found a local 10-minute drive-thru that does it for under $100 with full synthetic oil. The van has also had some engine warning lights flash on many times, but they eventually go off a day later. The radio has some issues, but the phone on Bluetooth works on both speakers. Despite these issues, the van has enough power and a smooth ride, and I get about 24 mph. I use the van every day for work and had Ford vans most of my life, but I decided to give the Mercedes a try this time. However, I will probably go back to Ford next time.

I like it! However, I must admit that the seats are not the most comfortable for long distance travel.

Hi there! We've been using our Metris cargo van for our business, driving it about 3 days a week and covering 47k miles so far. We usually carry around 400 lbs of cargo, which has been quite manageable. While we've had a few issues with the van, such as needing to replace the tires and aligning it a few times, we've been able to get them resolved. We did have to replace the strut bushing at 25k miles, and unfortunately, it's gone bad again now that it's out of warranty. We're also experiencing some issues with the A/C and wipers, but we're confident we'll be able to get them sorted out. We've found some helpful discussions on the Metris forum, and while the dealership has been less than helpful, we're grateful for any assistance we can get. Thanks for taking the time to read our story!

We have five kids and travel frequently. We purchased a 2016 Metris in North Carolina and had it upfitted by Explorer Van in Indiana. We added a higher roof, carpeted floors, leather seats, a TV, and speakers. We absolutely adore the upfitting. However, we have had to spend a lot of money on this car in just three years. We have encountered numerous issues, including three sets of tires and alignment problems. Unfortunately, we were not aware of these issues beforehand. Our A/C failed just after our warranty expired, which was an expensive fix. We also had a leaky fuel valve that filled our car with the smell of gas. Fortunately, it was fixed at no cost and has since been part of a recall. Our most recent issue involved a small engine problem that I didn't understand, which cost over $1200 to fix. During my last conversation with my service representative, they suggested that I should consider purchasing a newer vehicle. I am now contemplating whether to sell it and look for something else. Despite the issues, I love the convenience of the sliding doors, the ample trunk space (although the manual lift gate is quite heavy), and the generous legroom in both back rows. However, the frequent expenses make me question whether it's worth keeping.
