Common Mercedes-benz Metris 2016 problems
Based on the complaints from owners of the 2016 Mercedes-Benz Metris, several common problems have been reported:
- Power Steering Recall: A significant concern reported is related to a power steering recall affecting certain 2016-2017 Metris vehicles. The recall involves corrosion and potential fracture of aluminum bolts attaching the power steering gear assist motor to the gear housing, leading to a loss or reduction of power steering assist. This issue can result in higher steering effort, especially at lower speeds, posing a risk of accidents. The recall requires the replacement of aluminum bolts with steel bolts to address the problem.
- Engine Problems: Complaints have surfaced regarding engine issues, particularly related to cam and timing chain problems. Irregular oil changes and inadequate lubrication have been cited as potential causes for these problems. Faulty cam adjusters and variable timing adjustment gear can lead to improper timing in the combustion cycle, affecting the engine's performance and potentially causing significant damage. Replacing camshafts is a delicate task that, if not done correctly, can result in severe engine damage, including rod failure.
- Reliability Concerns: Consumer Reports have highlighted reliability issues with the 2016 Mercedes-Benz Metris, indicating potential trouble spots ranging from the engine, transmission, brakes, power equipment, and electrical system. These reports are based on feedback from owners who identified serious problems related to cost, failure, safety, or downtime. Passenger van, never carry any cargo. 42k miles it is already on the 3rd sets of tires. I had continental and Michelin tires. Each With 50k+ miles ratings. No tires last more than 20k on this van. All dealers maintained and rotating wheels regularly. Now it has a recall on the wrong specification of tires installed from manufacturers. the newer model use 235 vs 225 on older model.

Hey there! Why not take a look at some cars that you really like?
-
It's hard to predict how maintenance will go since it's a new vehicle. However, my experience buying this car was much better than my last one at Hyundai. I can finally sleep at night without feeling like I was taken advantage of. Plus, I absolutely love this van! Even during a 6-hour drive in heavy rain, the Metris hugged the road like no other vehicle I've been in. Have I mentioned how much I love this van?
-
I've owned my Metris for about a year and I absolutely love it! As the owner of a wine touring company, it has been the perfect vehicle for couples and small groups. While it may be more utilitarian compared to other Mercedes Benzes, it certainly doesn't lack any important features. I find the way it drives to be fantastic, although I do need to sort out a rattle in one of the seats. The amount of space in the 3rd row is incredible and surpasses any other minivan or SUV in its category. I am so happy with my Metris that I am even considering buying a second one for my business!

Hi there! We've been using our Metris cargo van for our business, driving it about 3 days a week and covering 47k miles so far. We usually carry around 400 lbs of cargo, which has been quite manageable. While we've had a few issues with the van, such as needing to replace the tires and aligning it a few times, we've been able to get them resolved. We did have to replace the strut bushing at 25k miles, and unfortunately, it's gone bad again now that it's out of warranty. We're also experiencing some issues with the A/C and wipers, but we're confident we'll be able to get them sorted out. We've found some helpful discussions on the Metris forum, and while the dealership has been less than helpful, we're grateful for any assistance we can get. Thanks for taking the time to read our story!
