2005 Maserati Quattroporte problems

maserati logo

The Maserati Quattroporte (Italian pronunciation: ) is a four-door luxury sports sedan produced by Italian automobile manufacturer Maserati. The name translated from Italian means "four doors". The car is in its sixth generation, with the first generation introduced in 1963.

Quattroporte I (AM107, 1963–1969)

The original Maserati Quattroporte (Tipo AM107) was built between 1963 and 1969. It was a large saloon powered by V8 engines—both firsts for a series production Maserati automobile.

History

The task of styling the Quattroporte was given to Turinese coachbuilder Pietro Frua, who drew inspiration from a special 5000 GT (chassis number 103.060) which he had designed in 1962 for Prince Karim Aga Khan. While the design was by Frua, body construction was carried out by Vignale.

Common 2005 Maserati Quattroporte problems

The Maserati Quattroporte, produced in 2005, is a luxury sedan known for its sophisticated styling and powerful engines. However, like any other vehicle, it is not immune to certain issues that may arise over time. Here are the most common problems reported by actual owners of the Maserati Quattroporte:

  • Transmission-Related Issues: Instances of rough shifting, delayed engagement, or even complete transmission failure plague the sedans. These problems are because of various factors, such as defective solenoids, faulty valve bodies, or inadequate fluid levels. If you encounter any unusual behavior with your Maserati Quattroporte’s transmission, it is crucial to seek professional assistance to prevent further damage and ensure you aren’t left stranded.
  • Suspension System Problems: The Maserati Quattroporte’s finely tuned suspension system, designed to strike a balance between comfort and sportiness, has occasionally faced challenges. Owners have reported suspension noise, excessive vibration, or rough ride quality. These problems are because of prematurely worn-out bushings, damaged shocks or struts, or misaligned suspension components. Regular maintenance and timely replacement of worn parts can help mitigate these issues and restore the Quattroporte’s “refined” driving experience.
  • Engine-Related Problems: Some owners have encountered engine-related problems. Issues like rough idling, engine misfires, or reduced power output have been reported. These symptoms may stem from various causes, including faulty fuel injectors, ignition coil failures, or air intake leaks. An unfortunate use of cost-cutting has made for a laundry list of reliability issues with the Quattroporte. Regular servicing and tune-ups can help identify and rectify these engine performance issues.
  • Maintenance Issues: The 2005 Maserati Quattroporte has a history of low life and expensive clutch repairs. It is essential to familiarize yourself with this feature, drive a few, and then make a careful, clear decision. These cars are very nice but there are many "got ya's"! Two year old models were selling for 50% of their original pricing. Be smart and careful.
  • Faulty Electrical Wiring Harness: In 2005, all UK cars were recalled because of a possible manufacturing defect with the electrical wiring harness. This could cause the doors to open unintentionally, although not above speeds of 6mph. Check the outside door handles have been replaced, which was the manufacturer's cure for the fault. There should be a note in the service history on this if your car was affected.
  • Expensive Repairs: As the car ages, the cost of repairs can add up significantly. For instance, a clutch replacement can cost around $8,000, and actuators can cost around $6,000. It is crucial to be aware of these potential costs and ensure that the car is in good condition before purchasing.

In conclusion, the Maserati Quattroporte is a luxury sedan with powerful engines and sophisticated styling. However, it is essential to be aware of the potential issues that may arise over time, such as electrical system problems, transmission-related issues, suspension system challenges, engine-related problems, and maintenance issues. By staying informed and working closely with qualified technicians, you can ensure a delightful ownership experience with your Maserati Quattroporte.

What are common faults with Maserati Quattroporte?

The Maserati Quattroporte has had its fair share of issues. Some of the most commonly reported problems include melting interiors, clutch problems, excessive noise, and tire wear in corners. In particular, the 2006 and 2014 models should be avoided due to these recurring issues.

What is the most common problem with Maserati?

The brand isn't known for being overly reliable, suffering several issues, with the most common faults being electrical or affecting the axle and suspension. Unfortunately, while Maserati is becoming increasingly popular among buyers, its reliability has not improved.

Are Maserati Quattroporte expensive to maintain?

These cars are expensive to maintain, particularly when repairs are necessary. Annual maintenance for most owners typically runs between $2,000 and $3,000 per year for fluid changes, tires, etc., but I think you'll find that's based on fairly limited drivng (est. 4,000 to 7,000/yr.).

Why not to buy a Maserati?

Another reason why Maserati vehicles break down a lot is that certain models are prone to engine issues. This can be due to a range of factors, such as poor maintenance or defective parts. Some of the common engine issues that may occur include stalling, loss of power, and oil leaks.

Negative 2005 Maserati Quattroporte car reviews

  1. Levi Gerlach 2024-06-08

I have owned two Quattroportes, and unfortunately, my first one had several issues with its computer, sensor, and transmission. However, I must say that the dealership and support team have been exceptional in their efforts to make things right. My second Quattroporte is currently undergoing transmission re-building, but it is still a beautiful car and a joy to drive. It is a shame that Maserati's goal of an entry-level exotic is not being met due to quality control issues in a 100k car. I hope that Maserati will take the necessary steps to rectify this situation and make me a happy customer. At the moment, it falls short of being a prime time player.

Positive 2005 Maserati Quattroporte car reviews

  1. Hoyt Heaney 2024-09-11

I recently purchased the Limited Edition Neiman Marcus Quattroporte from the newly opened Penski Wynn dealership located in the new 2.7 billion dollar Wynn Hotel Casino. As I was admiring my new car, I noticed that a large crowd had gathered around me. In fact, more than 500 people left the crowd they had been waiting in for hours just to come and check out my car! One gentleman was so impressed that he even had his wife take a picture of him next to it instead of the hotel. I must say, this car is truly a masterpiece of craftsmanship. The interior is laid out very well, the leather is incredible, and the gauges are set up in the right places and easy to read. The available features make for a very luxurious car, and the handling is, of course, superb!

  2. Graham Shields 2024-08-18

This car is amazing! Your dad made a great choice when he bought it in July. He's driven some impressive cars like the Mercedes-Benz S500, S55 AMG, BMW 745Li, and Jaguar XJR, but the Maserati is definitely the most special. It's unique and eye-catching, and people can't help but stare and give compliments. The driving experience is a dream come true. The car handles corners like a pro, even though it's a 5,000 lb. + four-door sedan. In fact, it handles better than your dad's heavily modded Porsche C4. Once you've driven this car, it's hard to go back to mass-produced German and British cars. It makes you feel special, and you'll find yourself going outside just to look at it. In my opinion, this is the best-designed sedan on the market today.

  3. Tyrese Marquardt 2024-07-12

This most recent iteration of the Maserati Quattroporte is truly exceptional. The 8 cyl 4.2l dry-sump Maserati engine produces an impressive 400 bhp without the need for a turbo or supercharger, surpassing anything from BMW or Mercedes-Benz. The engine's placement low and behind the front axle, and the transmission on the rear axle, give this 4200 lb luxury sedan the handling of an F-16. The big sticky Bridgestone runflats keep it firmly on the road, allowing you to accelerate through even the tightest turns. The sensuous curves of the Pininfarina body set the Quattroporte apart from the edgy, techno-bods of its German competitors. Everywhere you go, heads turn, thumbs go up, and tongues hang out. It's an outstanding car.

  4. Francisco McCullough 2024-03-13

This car is a gem! It's wonderful to see a business class sedan designed in such a sporty and elegant style. The design is both elegant and sleek. I fell in love with it the moment I saw it.

  5. Franco Schmeler 2024-03-03

This car is amazing! It gives you the feel of a powerful muscle car going through the gears, but also has luxurious features that you never imagined would be available in this type of automobile. Every time I take the car out, I get a double take or someone shouting 'What kind of car is that?' The performance and features of the car truly live up to the impact of its look.
