Maserati Quattroporte problems

maserati logo

The Maserati Quattroporte (Italian pronunciation: ) is a four-door luxury sports sedan produced by Italian automobile manufacturer Maserati. The name translated from Italian means "four doors". The car is in its sixth generation, with the first generation introduced in 1963.

Quattroporte I (AM107, 1963–1969)

The original Maserati Quattroporte (Tipo AM107) was built between 1963 and 1969. It was a large saloon powered by V8 engines—both firsts for a series production Maserati automobile.

History

The task of styling the Quattroporte was given to Turinese coachbuilder Pietro Frua, who drew inspiration from a special 5000 GT (chassis number 103.060) which he had designed in 1962 for Prince Karim Aga Khan. While the design was by Frua, body construction was carried out by Vignale.

Common Maserati Quattroporte problems

Based on the complaints from owners of the Maserati Quattroporte, several common problems have been reported:

  • Transmission-Related Problems:
Complaints include rough shifting, delayed engagement, and even complete transmission failure. These issues are attributed to factors like defective solenoids, faulty valve bodies, or inadequate fluid levels. Professional assistance is crucial if any unusual behavior is noticed to prevent further damage and avoid being stranded.
  • Suspension System Challenges:
Owners have reported suspension noise, excessive vibration, and rough ride quality. Prematurely worn-out bushings, damaged shocks or struts, and misaligned suspension components are the common culprits. Regular maintenance and timely replacement of worn parts can help mitigate these issues and restore the Quattroporte's driving experience.
  • Engine-Related Problems:
Issues such as rough idling, engine misfires, and reduced power output have been reported. Causes include faulty fuel injectors, ignition coil failures, or air intake leaks. Regular servicing and tune-ups are recommended to identify and rectify these engine performance issues.

These problems highlight the importance of regular maintenance and prompt attention to any issues that arise to ensure a pleasant ownership experience with the Maserati Quattroporte.

When trying to operate the EPB while parked or while driving, it does not engage. The TPMS warning light came on around the end of 2020 in December. Latest negative Maserati Quattroporte car reviews

  1. Issac Shanahan 2025-03-02

    Vehicle year: 2007

This car has a great appearance, but unfortunately it has not been very reliable. I have had to spend $13,760 on repairs and it has only done 23K miles. This is not what I expected from a car that cost $140K when new. I have decided to take it to auction next week to sell it before it costs me any more money. However, if you are looking for a car that looks great in your driveway, this could be the one for you. Just be aware that it may not be suitable for driving long distances.

  2. Lewis Davis 2025-02-27

    Vehicle year: 2009

Hi there! I recently purchased a car with 38k miles and have put on an additional 7k miles since then. The car's history showed regular service, with the most recent one being at a Ferrari dealer at 36k miles. Unfortunately, I have had to replace a few parts since purchasing it, including a shift actuator, f1 pump, and driver side door handle. The window wash sprayers are not working, possibly due to a broken switch inside the steering wheel. Additionally, the massage seat on the driver's side has not worked since I bought the car. Recently, I noticed some air in the back window and it wouldn't roll up, so it seems like the back window regulator needs to be replaced. Lastly, the clutch needs to be replaced and the car's acceleration has been a bit rough, even when using the manual and sport mode properly. Oh, and the interior in the rear is falling apart. Despite these issues, I still enjoy driving the car and am looking forward to fixing it up. Thanks for listening!

  3. Chesley Dare 2025-02-22

    Vehicle year: 2005

I'm having a really tough time figuring out why my $113k car is worse than my '92 Chevy Cavalier. This car has been in the shop more times than I can count. It has had too many problems for a luxury car, including computer sensor and transmission failures, alarm malfunctions, clutch and battery issues, and engine failure system problems, just to name a few. I will never buy another one.

  4. Ulices Goldner 2025-01-13

    Vehicle year: 2007

I may be the only person in the US to own two Maserati Quattroportes. Unfortunately, my first one had multiple problems that included sensors, transmission, and finally the main computer, all within the first three months of ownership. However, the dealer was incredibly helpful and bent over backward to assist me. Maserati of NA even gave me a new car, and although I had to have the transmission re-built (clutch and throw-out bearing), the dealer did it for free due to the low mileage. It's important to note that the clutch is a wear item and costs $2500 to replace, but the service manager assured me that it's good for 20k miles. Just be aware of this when considering a Maserati purchase.

  5. Spencer Considine 2024-11-22

    Vehicle year: 2006

I have owned two Quattroportes, and unfortunately, my first one had several issues with its computer, sensor, and transmission. However, I must say that the dealership and support team have been exceptional in their efforts to make things right. My second Quattroporte is currently undergoing transmission re-building, but it is still a beautiful car and a joy to drive. It is a shame that Maserati's goal of an entry-level exotic is not being met due to quality control issues in a 100k car. I hope that Maserati will take the necessary steps to rectify this situation and make me a happy customer. At the moment, it falls short of being a prime time player.

Latest positive Maserati Quattroporte car reviews

  1. Finn Hill 2025-04-19

    Vehicle year: 2012

Firstly, it's important to note that owning one of these cars is different from owning any of its German competitors. Parts and service costs are higher, wait times are longer, and consumables like brakes and tires will wear out faster than on an S-Class or 7er. However, the fifth gen QP (in Automatica spec) has proven to be reliable. My own car, an '07 Sport GT Automatica, has over 100K on the clock and everything works as it should. The quality of some of the interior trim may not be quite as good as the Germans, but the hide on the seats holds up very well and the seats are supremely comfortable on long hauls. It would be nice if they raised up a bit higher to allow better legroom and more thigh support. Otherwise, no complaints about comfort at all. The suspension system does have a tendency to eat bushings rather quickly and they're expensive to replace, and handling can become a bit This car is a great value, especially considering its current depreciation. As long as you have a competent and fair dealer or a good Italian car indie nearby, you'll have no problem using this car every day. Just be prepared for frequent replacement of the rear tires and brakes. It's important to go into Italian car ownership with realistic expectations, as they require more maintenance. However, as they say, nothing beautiful is easy to keep! The car has been well-maintained and has had regular replacements of parts such as front end bushes, anti-roll bar bushes, and front skyhook strut assemblies. With 139K miles as of November 2019, the car is still flawless. The driver's door window regulator and the driver's door main window switch pack had to be replaced, but these are expected for a car of this age and mileage. Overall, this car is a reliable and beautiful choice that I plan to drive until it is no longer practical. The battery was recently replaced after six years, but other than that, the car has been performing fabulously. The body, paint, and interior still look incredible, thanks to regular maintenance and care. Even after a 3,200 mile trip and being surrounded by new Bentleys and Lamborghinis on a family vacation in Miami, the car still turns heads. As we approach the 200K mark, I'm confident that the car will continue to perform well. If and when the time comes to replace it, I'll likely look for a QP-S from 2012 or 2013. A friend of mine bought a '13 QP GTS, but I found the ride too stiff for my liking. I prefer Skyhook to the Bilstein fixed rate dampers on the GTS. Update 2/1/22: The QP is still performing beautifully with approximately 166K on the odometer. Some front end bushings and sway bar end links have been replaced, but otherwise, it's still a fabulous car. UPDATE (way overdue): As of July 2023, the car has 170K miles. I recently did some routine service and replaced the front pads and rotors. Next week, I'll be replacing the engine mounts (they were last done around 95K miles, so they seem to last 75-80K). The only other repair needed right now is a new front coil spring as the left front is broken, so I'll be replacing both. Everything else on the car is flawless as always.

If you're looking for the latest and greatest gadgets, the QP6 may not be the best choice for you. However, if you're seeking a head-turning car with a race car spirit that brings joy to your daily drives, then the QP6 should be at the top of your list. Don't let negative reviews discourage you, as they often come from individuals who are unable to afford the car or have unrealistic expectations. While I have experienced a few minor issues with the car, my mechanics have been unable to identify the cause. Unfortunately, the lack of nearby dealers has made it difficult to address these issues. Despite these challenges, the QP6 remains a fantastic car that is sure to impress.

Let's compare the Maserati QP GTS and the Jaguar XJL. The Maserati is a fast and responsive car with a deep low growl exhaust note that is sure to turn heads. However, the Jaguar XJL, which is half the price, offers more comfort, space, and advanced technology. It is also stylish and a real head-turner. If you're looking for style, comfort, and pizzazz, the XJL is the way to go. On the other hand, if you want pure driving fun, exhilaration, and bragging rights, the QP GTS is the perfect choice.

Hey there! If you're in the market for a new car, I highly recommend checking out the 2005-2008 Maserati Quattroporte pre-face lift models. Trust me, you won't be disappointed! I recently sold my 2002 911 cab and 2004 BMW 7 Series to upgrade to a 2007 QP Exec GT and 07 Escalade, and I have to say, the Maserati is by far the coolest. With a powerful engine boasting 400 hp and lots of torque, the sound of the exhaust (which gets even louder on Sport Mode), and the unique interior and exterior styling, this car is truly one-of-a-kind. Plus, it's not a mechanical nightmare at all - I've had mine for 4 years (from 2011 through present/2016) and have had no problems. Sure, maintenance prices at the Ferrari/Maserati dealer are a bit higher than at a Cadillac dealer, but that's just one of the trade-offs for driving a hand-built Italian semi-exotic. And let me tell you, the way this car drives above 50 MPH is hard to describe - it feels even better than my modern day 911 did at speeds over 80. It's like the car is begging you to give it more gas! I know this might sound weird, but I find myself taking care of this car like it's a living pet or something - I just love it that much.
