    It's a great car when it's been properly maintained. The car requires a SHO repair expert to get any work done, which may be fairly expensive but worth it. It has an incredible engine, smooth acceleration, is roomy, comfortable, and handles well on windy roads. The brakes are underrated for this fast car, which weighs around 3500 lbs, so they need to be replaced relatively frequently. Gas mileage is poor in the city but decent on the highway. Overall, it's a very inexpensive used car to acquire that can be a bit expensive to maintain but actually worth it. It has excellent passing skills and is a great long-distance cruiser.

    Bought the GL model with a 3.8 L engine in fall of 1993. It has low mileage 66K with a history of repair problems. Replaced radiator, AC system. $1200 repair. Recently replaced the engine head gasket. The 3.8 has an aluminum head that warps and ruins the gasket. This problem develops at about 60k or six years on this engine. The replacement gasket is now of better quality being able to withstand the heat and flexing of the engine head. Be prepared to spend about $1500 for this repair. The steering does not stay in alignment and has had numerous alignments. Never had an accident. The fuel pump bearing is noisy and will eventually need replacement. Avoid the 3.8 L engine.

    When my parents bought my 93 Taurus GL sedan, I didn't like it at first. It was a 4-door sedan that I thought was uncool, but I soon realized it had much more potential than I initially thought. The 3.8L engine had great performance, but unfortunately, the transmission couldn't keep up. Despite this, I had my GL for about 3 years and bought it with 113,000 miles. The last day I drove it, it had 142,000 miles. Other than the transmission starting to go bad, the car ran and handled great. Although it wasn't always reliable and struggled on hot days, this car saved my life when I was hit by a farm truck and sent flying through a line of trees.

    Hi there! I noticed that you had some repairs done on your car between 1993 and 1996 while it was under warranty. However, since then, it has been running like a charm! The only issues I could see were that the electric window on the back left passenger door stopped working and the air conditioning broke around 70,000 miles. But overall, it's still going strong at 104,000 miles!

    The car I purchased with only 60,000 miles on it turned out to be a disappointment as it had several issues. The air conditioner stopped working within 500 miles of purchase and the motor blew a head gasket before even reaching 10,000 miles. It is a known issue that blown head gaskets are common in the 3.8L motors. In contrast, my mother-in-law's 96' car with a 3.0 has been more reliable. Additionally, I suspect that my transmission was starting to slip.

    I really like the result of buying this car! Even with 80000 miles, it runs really well, even with my foot to the floor almost all the time. The only issue is that the check engine light comes on in warm weather or when I drive too fast. I realized it could have almost overheated, so to counteract that, I just look at the RPMs and try not to go over 3000. And it's fine for hours! It's amazing how much I've grown to like it even more over time that I've owned it.

    You've got yourself a very reliable and comfortable car there! The front wheel drive is great for handling in bad conditions, and the fold down rear seats allow for versatility in moving cargo. Plus, it's roomier than the newer body designed Tauruses. It's great to hear that you haven't had any major mechanical issues over the ten years you've owned it.

The transmission has not given me any issues, and I have only needed to perform average maintenance and a few minor repairs. Overall, it has been an excellent car for both myself and my family.     I bought this car in 1993 and had no problems with it. I made sure to change the oil, fix the brakes, and do the 60,000 mile tune up. Although my radiator did spring a leak, I believe it was my own fault for not changing the antifreeze during the time I owned it. The only part I had to change was the alternator. This car is great for carrying everything, especially for going to the airport with those huge suitcases - they fit perfectly and don't need to be lifted over a metal trunk part. I love the fold down back seats and have been able to transport sheet rock, storm doors, doors, lawn mowers, television sets, and large rugs in this car. It truly is a little work horse!
