The Maserati Quattroporte (Italian pronunciation: ) is a four-door luxury sports sedan produced by Italian automobile manufacturer Maserati. The name translated from Italian means "four doors". The car is in its sixth generation, with the first generation introduced in 1963.

Quattroporte I (AM107, 1963–1969)

The original Maserati Quattroporte (Tipo AM107) was built between 1963 and 1969. It was a large saloon powered by V8 engines—both firsts for a series production Maserati automobile.

History

The task of styling the Quattroporte was given to Turinese coachbuilder Pietro Frua, who drew inspiration from a special 5000 GT (chassis number 103.060) which he had designed in 1962 for Prince Karim Aga Khan. While the design was by Frua, body construction was carried out by Vignale.

Common 2007 Maserati Quattroporte problems

The Maserati Quattroporte, produced from 2004 to 2012, is a luxury sedan known for its Italian design and powerful engines. However, like any vehicle, it is not immune to certain issues that may arise over time. Here are the most common problems reported by actual owners of the Maserati Quattroporte, based on search results:

  1. Electrical System Issues: Several Maserati Quattroporte owners have reported issues related to the electrical system. These problems range from faulty sensors and malfunctioning control modules to intermittent electrical failures. Real-world experiences have highlighted sporadic warning lights, unresponsive infotainment systems, and power windows or mirrors that cease functioning correctly. While these electrical gremlins can be frustrating, they are usually remedied by a trained technician who can diagnose and address the underlying cause.
  2. Transmission-Related Issues: Instances of rough shifting, delayed engagement, or even complete transmission failure have been reported in the Maserati Quattroporte. These problems are because of various factors, such as defective solenoids, faulty valve bodies, or inadequate fluid levels. If you encounter any unusual behavior with your Maserati Quattroporte’s transmission, it is crucial to seek professional assistance to prevent further damage and ensure you aren’t left stranded.
  3. Suspension System Challenges: The Maserati Quattroporte’s finely tuned suspension system, designed to strike a balance between comfort and sportiness, has occasionally faced challenges. Owners have reported suspension noise, excessive vibration, or rough ride quality. These problems are because of prematurely worn-out bushings, damaged shocks or struts, or misaligned suspension components. Regular maintenance and timely replacement of worn parts can help mitigate these issues and restore the Quattroporte’s “refined” driving experience.
  4. Engine-Related Problems: Some owners have encountered engine-related problems, such as rough idling, engine misfires, or reduced power output. These symptoms may stem from various causes, including faulty fuel injectors, ignition coil failures, or air intake leaks. Regular servicing and tune-ups can help identify and rectify these engine performance issues.

It is important to note that not all Maserati Quattroporte vehicles experience these problems. By staying informed and working closely with qualified technicians, you can ensure a delightful ownership experience with your Maserati Quattroporte, allowing you to relish this Italian masterpiece’s elegance and performance.

2007 Maserati Quattroporte engine

What are the problems with the Maserati Quattroporte?

The Maserati Quattroporte has had its fair share of issues. Some of the most commonly reported problems include melting interiors, clutch problems, excessive noise, and tire wear in corners. In particular, the 2006 and 2014 models should be avoided due to these recurring issues.

What is the most common problem with Maserati?

The brand isn't known for being overly reliable, suffering several issues, with the most common faults being electrical or affecting the axle and suspension. Unfortunately, while Maserati is becoming increasingly popular among buyers, its reliability has not improved.

Are Maserati Quattroporte expensive to maintain?

These cars are expensive to maintain, particularly when repairs are necessary. Annual maintenance for most owners typically runs between $2,000 and $3,000 per year for fluid changes, tires, etc., but I think you'll find that's based on fairly limited drivng (est. 4,000 to 7,000/yr.).

Why not to buy a Maserati?

Another reason why Maserati vehicles break down a lot is that certain models are prone to engine issues. This can be due to a range of factors, such as poor maintenance or defective parts. Some of the common engine issues that may occur include stalling, loss of power, and oil leaks.

Negative 2007 Maserati Quattroporte car reviews

  1. Ulices Goldner 2025-01-13

I may be the only person in the US to own two Maserati Quattroportes. Unfortunately, my first one had multiple problems that included sensors, transmission, and finally the main computer, all within the first three months of ownership. However, the dealer was incredibly helpful and bent over backward to assist me. Maserati of NA even gave me a new car, and although I had to have the transmission re-built (clutch and throw-out bearing), the dealer did it for free due to the low mileage. It's important to note that the clutch is a wear item and costs $2500 to replace, but the service manager assured me that it's good for 20k miles. Just be aware of this when considering a Maserati purchase.

  2. Jesse Walsh 2024-11-08

Although my sedan has a sports car chassis and looks gorgeous, I have had a few issues with it. Unfortunately, it has spent 6 out of the 20 days I have owned it in the shop. Out of the 530 miles I have driven, 162 miles (31%) have been repair-related. This is not ideal, especially since some features that have been standard in other luxury cars for a decade are missing. However, I am confident that these problems will be resolved soon. Despite the issues, I have found the car to be really fun to drive and it definitely turns heads. (I know it's the car, not me, causing the head-turning as I am old enough to know better.)

  3. Donnie Powlowski 2024-08-27

I'm having a really tough time figuring out why my $113k car is worse than my '92 Chevy Cavalier. This car has been in the shop more times than I can count. It has had too many problems for a luxury car, including computer sensor and transmission failures, alarm malfunctions, clutch and battery issues, and engine failure system problems, just to name a few. I will never buy another one.

  4. Moriah Bednar 2024-08-16

The car is absolutely stunning! It's definitely one of the most beautiful sedans out there. However, I've had some trouble with the dealership we use. Unfortunately, they don't have any mechanics for the car, which can be frustrating. One time, I had an appointment and they told me that their mechanics were at the races and couldn't take care of my car. It was during the November 2006 race at Homestead Speedway, which was a shame. I understand that all American cars have their quirks, but it was disappointing that the mechanics were unavailable when I needed them. Additionally, I've noticed that the car has a tire error that can cause issues if you make a tight u-turn. The 2005 transmission can also take some time to pick up, but hopefully they've perfected it by now. Lastly, the 6-CD changer can rattle a bit, but it's a small issue in the grand scheme of things. Overall, this car is perfect for long trips and highway driving, and it's truly a gorgeous vehicle!

  5. Murl Jacobi 2024-07-08

We have experienced multiple issues with the car since we got it in April 2014, including screeching brakes, a non-functional radio, and tires rubbing. Despite seeking assistance from both Maserati of Bergen and Maserati of North America, our problems were not resolved. Unfortunately, we have not been provided with a loaner since December 2014. Today, the gas pedal got stuck for the third time, which is concerning. We advise caution when considering this vehicle.

Positive 2007 Maserati Quattroporte car reviews

  1. Lafayette Hamill 2025-02-13

It's unfortunate that my lease is ending on the QP, but I wanted to take a moment to express how much I've enjoyed driving this amazing car. Despite owning several high-end vehicles in the past, including Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and other luxury sedans, the QP stands out as the best all-around car I've ever had the pleasure of driving. Its Ferrari-inspired design and top-of-the-line drive train and suspension make it a true standout in the crowded field of luxury performance sedans. Compared to other luxury brands like Mercedes and BMW, the Italians really know how to create a car that is both elegant and high-performing. Thank you for the opportunity to experience such a fantastic vehicle.

  2. Don Lind 2025-02-11

This Italian creation is a true embodiment of style, which is highly valued by the Italians. The car is admired by people of all ages and economic backgrounds. I am a proud owner of the Quattroporte, and this is my second one. The first one, which I drove daily for 8 years, was from 1984. The build quality of the current model has improved beyond belief. I love driving this car hard and experiencing it the way it was intended. So far, I have not encountered any problems. The performance is simply amazing. Once you get a sense of where the limits are, you can truly enjoy a sports car experience in the morning and indulge in luxury as you and your friends arrive at your favorite 5-star restaurant in the evening. The controls are easy to use and well-positioned. However, it's worth noting that the transmission is a standard when driving on hills.

  3. Danial Douglas 2024-09-25

I have owned my 2005 Quattroporte for 16 years and have been delighted with its performance. With just 59,000 miles on the clock and 5 major services every 12,000 miles, it has been a reliable and enjoyable car to own. I always drive it in Manual sport mode with a Manual clutch mindset to avoid unnecessary clutch slippage, and I'm pleased to say that the original clutch is still going strong with no slippage. I have experienced no mechanical or electrical issues, making it more reliable than my previous cars. The driving experience is involving and fun, especially when you master the transmission/engine combination. The Quattroporte is also the best handling sedan with the ultimate weight distribution of 47% front and 53% rear. During cornering, the weight settles on the outside rear tire, and the car turns like a mid-engine car. Although it was my daily driver for the first 3 years/36000 miles, I now only drive it on weekends. This car is a modern classic for the true petrol head who appreciates driving dynamics and timeless design. Doug Demuro's reviews are very misleading, with too much emphasis on the infotainment system and not enough on the driving experience. The Quattroporte is a modern classic and a true work of automotive art.

  4. Rafael Barton 2024-09-20

I am a new owner, so I may be biased by the excitement of having a new car, but this vehicle truly excites all of one's senses. The sound of the Sport GT is simply spectacular as it reaches the red line. I absolutely love my car.

  5. Theron Eichmann 2024-08-25

This car is so much fun to drive! The suspension and handling make you feel like you're on rails, and the car is absolutely stunning.
