Common Problems with the Maserati Ghibli 2017
1. Hesitant Acceleration
One of the most common problems reported by owners of the 2017 Maserati Ghibli is hesitant acceleration. This issue has been reported by several buyers who have experienced the vehicle's hesitation while accelerating from a stop. Despite pressing the pedal, the Ghibli has been unable to pick up speed, which can create hazardous situations for the driver and the occupants. In some cases, the transmission shifts to neutral, causing further issues while accelerating.
A handful of buyers have reported the vehicle losing its power unexpectedly, causing the sedan to stall and become immovable. This problem is often accompanied by excessive shuddering across the vehicle's body, making it difficult to diagnose the root cause.
Two buyers of the 2017 Ghibli have reported the failure of the braking system. Despite depressing the pedal, the vehicle has been unable to come to a halt, leading to a crash in one situation. Another user reported that the vehicle accelerated without any input from the driver as soon as the brake pedal was depressed.
Buyers have reported a couple of issues with the steering system, including excessive shuddering and clunking noises. These problems make it difficult to control the vehicle and remain undiagnosed to date.
One buyer has complained about the uncomfortable seating position, which can cause discomfort to the occupants on longer journeys.
On unofficial forums, a couple of buyers have reported the dashboard materials peeling easily. The problem is not widespread, and currently, no reason is known for the problem.
These common problems with the Maserati Ghibli 2017 are based on complaints from owners and do not represent a comprehensive analysis of the vehicle's reliability.
What is the most common problem with the Maserati Ghibli?
Owners have frequently complained about clutch problems, chip and crack issues, and a small passenger seat area, which many find claustrophobic. It is worth noting that Ghibli models often experience clutch malfunctions after reaching approximately 13,000 miles, and the automatic transmission can be slow to accelerate.
Is A Maserati Ghibli a reliable car?
There were also issues with the infotainment system, power-steering and brakes. That said, as with every vehicle and every owner, some Maserati Ghibli drivers have had no problems at all with the reliability and when asked, gave it five stars.
Is Maserati Ghibli high maintenance?
Overall, Maserati upkeep is a significant expense that you shouldn't underestimate, but it may be worth it for some people. Maseratis cost about $1,600 per year just in preventive maintenance. For reference, the average vehicle costs about $650 per year in maintenance and repairs.
Does Maserati have good reliability?
According to the U.K.-based Reliability Index, Maserati reliability ratings averaged 774.00 for 2019. This high score identifies a vehicle that is relatively expensive to own, but there are a few things to know that the Maserati reliability rating can't tell you.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-08
- VIN: ZAM57RSA7H1
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: There is a recall for a rear differential issue and Maserati had previously repaired the differential. However, the problem has persisted and I have about 41k miles on the vehicle and already having the same issue. There is a whining noise in the rear along with a leaking rear differential. Both signs of the original problem. Maserati has stated that the repair has already been done but this raises a serious safety concern as it could result in the rear differential locking up and causing an accident.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-06-16
- VIN: ZAM57RTA5H1
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,WHEELS
- Summary: I was on my way home from work sitting at the red light and when I was release my feet from the brake to take to driving, the auto start failed to start the car and I was stuck on side the road for 30 minutes because my vehicle wouldn’t not start. Finally the car started but I couldn’t get it to go over 15 mph. The car has been to the shop twice for service. Once was an electrical and the other time they couldn’t find nothing wrong with it. They said it just needed service. I serviced the vehicle as recommended and now it back doing the same thing again.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-06-01
- VIN: ZAM57XSAXH1
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Sitting at at red light with the start/stop system on, as I release the break pedal on a green light, the gear automatically has shifted to park. The car shows no signs that it has turned off or warnings that it has shifted gears on its own. I have to manually change gear to drive to get the car to move. I am aware that the recall was done for this issue but there has been no successful resolution to the problem. The car was taken to Rusnak Pasadena on July 21, 2021 and since they could not duplicate the concern, there was nothing done. The car was then taken to Maserati of Puente Hills as the issue continued. As per the dealership, on their maserati system, it shows that my car did not qualify for their recall and it would not be considered to be a manufacturing issue. This is a major safety concern as it can cause an accident
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-07-23
- VIN: ZAM57RTS4H1
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: The vehicle was manufactured with laminated glass for all windows and the glass is delaminating and forming bubbles around glass edges which compromises the integrity of the glass. On my vehicle, it affects all 4 windows and both front and rear windshields. This issue is widely reported on forums and group message boards and seems to affect all years of the Maserati Ghibli from 2014+. I have inquired with a local independent shop and was told that this is a safety concern and to try to reach out to the dealership. Reaching out to the dealership, I have not received a response. Others have said they had mixed results with the dealerships replacing their glass even with warranty. Others out of warranty were denied replacement or were told it is normal and not to worry.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-06-22
- VIN: ZAM57RTL3H1
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Stopped at stop sign and slowly tried to accelerate. The car moved forward into oncoming traffic and almost stalled. To compensate I had to press accelerator hard and then engine finally woke back up. This has happened another time where the car stalled and shifted into neutral. This is a safety issue so now I accelerate aggressively so the car does not stall. There was a recall performed prior to my ownership that was report to have been performed but it seems it didn't resolve the issue completely.
POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-03-11
- VIN: ZAM57RSS9H1
- Components: POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 60 MPH AND HAD TO BREAK BECAUSE A VEHICLE PULLED IN FRONT OF ME. MY VEHICLE SLOWED VERY WELL BUT WHEN I EASED UP OFF THE BREAK THE VEHICLE JUST ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN AT A VERY HIGH RATE OF SPEED. I ALMOST COLLIDED WITH THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I BRAKED AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE SLOWED BUT WHEN I EASED UP OFF THE BRAKE THE CAR AGAIN ACCELERATED AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. IT DID THIS FOR ABOUT FOUR TIMES UNTIL I HAD TO PULL OVER OFF THE ROAD AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND WAITED FOR A WHILE BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR AND DRIVE HOME. I WAS DRIVING ON FM 1960/CYPRESS CREEK PARKWAY.

I CALLED AND NOTIFIED THE SALES PERSON ABOUT IT AND HE TOLD ME TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN. I DROPPED THE CAR OFF AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO FIX THE PROBLEM. A FEW DAYS LATER I GOT A CALL FROM THE DEALERSHIP SAYING THE WHEEL WAS BENT AND THAT I MUST HAVE HIT A POTHOLE AND I AM GOING TO HAVE TO PAY TO GET THE CAR WHEEL FIXED BECAUSE WHEN THEY SOLD ME THE VEHICLE IT WAS NOT LIKE THAT AND THAT I MUST DAMAGED THE VEHICLE. I GOT FURIOUS. THEY SOLD ME THE VEHICLE EXACTLY LIKE THAT AND NOW DID NOT WANT TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAVE PICTURES SHOWING HOW THEY DELIVERED THE VEHICLE TO ME THAT NIGHT. FINALLY THEY DECIDED TO FIX THE PROBLEM BUT INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE BENT WHEEL THEY SENT IT OUT AND HAD IT REPAIRED FOR $125.00. I THINK THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. I JUST SPENT OVER $49,000 TO PURCHASE A CERTIFIED PREOWNED MASERATI AND THIS IS WHAT THIS DEALERSHIP WAS DOING. NOW THE PROBLEM IS STILL NOT FIXED. THE STEERING WHEEL STILL VIBRATES/SHAKES ON ROUGH ROADS.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-09-28
- VIN: ZAM57RTS9H1
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: MY COMPLAINT IS REGARDING MY 2017 MASERATI GHIBLI SQ4. WHILE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC OR AT STOP LIGHT THE CAR SHUTS DOWN AND PUTS ITSELF IN NEUTRAL. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND HAPPENS ROUGHLY ONCE A MONTH. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE ON THE 2017 LAVANTE WHICH SHARES THE SAME ENGINE AND STOP START SYSTEM WITH THE 2017 GHIBLI. BUT FOR SOME REASON MASERATI HAS ISSUED A RECALL ONLY ON THE LEVANTE NOT THE GHIBLI. THE CAR HAS BEEN INTO SERVICE FOR THIS ISSUE 5 TIMES IN 9 MONTHS. RUSNAK MY DEALERSHIP HERE IN PASADENA, CA SAYS THAT THERE IS NO CURRENT FIX FOR THIS ISSUE. TWO DAYS AGO I WAS GOING UP A BRIDGE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. THE CAR SHUT OFF WHILE STOPSED IN TRAFFIC, WHEN I RELEASED THE BRAKE THE CAR STALLED AND ROLLED BACKWARDS. I BELIEVE THE FREQUENT STALLING IS DUE TO A FAULTY START STOP FUEL SAVING SYSTEM. BEFORE I MAKE A LEFT TURN I HAVE TO DISABLE THE STOP START SYSTEM FOR FEAR THAT THE CAR WILL STALL LEAVING ME VULNERABLE TO AN ACCIDENT FROM ON COMING TRAFFIC.

You'll often hear people discussing the cost of repairs and other issues, but this car is superior to other high-end vehicles and handles better than comparable models. If you're considering purchasing a car like this, keep in mind that repairs are on par with those of Porsche or Mercedes. The driving experience of a car like this is truly exceptional. The interior is luxurious and quiet, unless you switch to sport mode, which unleashes the full potential of the car. The engine is a V6 bi-turbo Ferrari engine with AWD, and it handles well even in snowy conditions. Enjoy the ride!

I would be happy to recommend Scottsdale Maserati!

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with you. One day, I had the opportunity to take a drive test with a Maserati and I absolutely loved it! The drive was amazing and the price was reasonable for such a high-end car. However, I must say that my Mercedes e300 2018 is also a great car. Have a great day!
-
Couldn't be happier! I recently purchased a Maserati that is a few years old with only 14,000 miles on it. It looks brand new and was a steal at $78,000, which is less than what you would pay for a boring new car with no personality. My advice is to keep searching for low-mileage used cars and avoid paying full price for a car you don't even love. Happy hunting, my friends!
-
Like probably many used car buyers, I was concerned there would be hidden issues with the car. However, I went to a Maserati dealer to have it checked, and they reassured me that the car is healthy and drives amazingly!

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2017 Maserati Ghibli Sq4. I absolutely love my car, but I did have an issue with the dashboard material on the passenger side peeling up after 6 months out of warranty. I reached out to customer care, but unfortunately, they were unable to cover the defect. I understand that this is a common issue with these cars, as I read on a Maserati forum. It's a shame because I was considering getting a Grandturismo, but I'm hesitant now. I still love my car, but I wish they would stand by their workmanship. I believe that if it's a mechanical issue, I'm responsible, but material shouldn't be ripping up in under 5 years. Thank you for listening to my experience!

I've had my 2015 car for two months now and I've really enjoyed driving it. However, during the recent cold snap in WI, the car struggled to start after sitting in 0 degree temperatures all day while I was at work. I was worried when the car started sputtering and white smoke began to pour out of the exhaust as I drove to pick up my 3-year-old from daycare. Eventually, the car died and I was left stranded in the cold with my child. Thankfully, I was able to get the car started again and make it to a nearby parking lot before it was towed. While this wasn't the first issue I've had with the car in extreme cold, such as the power steering light coming on and the radio working intermittently, I still find it to be a fun car to drive. I'm still undecided on whether or not I'll keep it.

After leasing my Maserati for a year, I experienced some issues with a rattle noise in the rear door and a cracking noise in the engine. Despite multiple visits to the dealership, the problems persisted and ultimately required a new door panel and engine replacement. While the car has been in the shop for 25 days, I am confident that the dealership will complete the repairs to the highest standard. While my experience has been challenging, I still believe in the quality of Maserati vehicles.

This brand has several issues, including engine shut-offs, smoke from the hood, stuck brake pedals, loss of picture from the back camera, and interior lights that do not shut off by themselves.

The front seats are unfortunately uncomfortable, making it difficult to sit back without feeling discomfort. Back seat passengers may also find it challenging to enter and exit the vehicle, and the seats may not be the most comfortable for longer journeys. Despite attempts to address the issue with the corporate office, no solution has been found yet. However, I am hopeful that a resolution can be reached. In the meantime, I have decided to sell the car and explore other options. Perhaps in the future, I will consider investing in a higher-end vehicle.
