The Toyota Tacoma is a pickup truck manufactured by Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota since 1995. The first-generation Tacoma (model years 1995 through 2004) was classified as a compact pickup. The second generation (model years 2005 through 2015) and third generation (in production since 2015) models are classified as mid-sized pickups. The Tacoma was Motor Trend's Truck of the Year for 2005.

As of 2015, the Tacoma was sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Bolivia, Bermuda, and the French overseas collectivity of New Caledonia. Most markets across the world receive the Toyota Hilux in lieu of the Tacoma.

The name "Tacoma" was derived from the Coast Salish peoples' name for Mount Rainier in the U.S. state of Washington.

Common 1992 Toyota Toyota truck problems

The Toyota Pickup, produced in 1992, is often regarded as a reliable vehicle, but it does have its fair share of problems, as reported by its owners. One of the most common issues is the electrical system, which has been criticized for being unreliable and prone to faults. Customers have reported issues such as flat batteries, patchy engine performance, and faulty electrics. These problems have led to numerous recalls, tarnishing Toyota's reputation for reliability and safety.

Another significant issue is the braking system, which has also been the subject of several recalls. In 2014, Toyota recalled a large number of vehicles due to broken systems, insufficient stability control, faulty anti-lock brakes, and other electrical issues.

The interior and seating of the Toyota Pickup are also problematic. The vehicle is designed to move cargo and carry heavy objects, but it struggles to accommodate passengers comfortably. The interior and seating are exceptionally small, making it difficult to fit two or more passengers in the vehicle. The Toyota Pickup is also known for being "child unfriendly," with car seats and other kid-friendly necessities being a challenge to install.

The Toyota Pickup is also high maintenance, with the Toyota Tundra being particularly problematic. Vehicles made before 2004 are affected by a safety recall from 2000-2003, and the remaining vehicles are prone to rust and engine failure.

The check engine light is another common issue in Toyota Pickups. It can be caused by a loose gas cap, failing catalytic converter, fouled spark plugs or spark plug wires, faulty oxygen sensor, or faulty mass air flow sensor. When the check engine light comes on, it's essential to have the vehicle inspected by a professional to prevent further damage to the engine.

In summary, the Toyota Pickup, produced in 1992, has several common problems, including unreliable electrical systems, faulty brakes, small interior and seating, high maintenance requirements, and issues with the check engine light. These problems have led to numerous recalls and have tarnished Toyota's reputation for reliability and safety.

What is the toughest Toyota truck?

The specific vehicle we have in mind is the Toyota Hilux. Think about it, very few cars can withstand the punishment an old Hilux can. It is built with materials and engineering that are beyond belief and this makes it one of the toughest vehicles ever to be sold and thus – a super-car.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2009-07-24
  • VIN: JT4VN01D8N0
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: I HAVE A '92 TOYOTA 5 SPEED PICK-UP TRUCK AND FOR THE LAST 2 - 3 MONTHS IT HAS BEEN GETTING HARDER AND HARDER TO SHIFT GEARS. I FINALLY HAD IT LOOKED AT BY A MECHANIC (NOW THAT THE TRUCK IS JUST ABOUT UN-DRIVABLE) AND WAS TOLD THE MOUNTING BRACKET FOR THE CLUTCH AND BRAKE PEDALS IS CRACKED. THE CRACK ALLOWS THE BRACKET TO MOVE WHEN THE CLUTCH PEDAL IS DEPRESSED CAUSING THE CLUTCH TO NOT COMPLETELY DIS-ENGAGE MAKING IT VERY HARD IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE TO SHIFT GEARS (OR GET IT OUT OF GEAR). I'VE SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND TALKED TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND THAT TOYOTA MAKES A NEW "UPGRADED" VERSION OF THIS BRACKET FOR REPLACEMENT. HOWEVER, UNFORTUNATELY THE PRICE TAG ON THIS BRACKET FOR MY PARTICULAR TRUCK IS AROUND $197 FOR THE PART ALONE. I HAVE READ MANY STORIES NOW OF PEOPLE NEARLY REAR-ENDING OTHER VEHICLES OR BEING STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD UPON THIS PARTS FAILURE AND I AM GLAD THAT HASN'T HAPPENED TO ME. BUT I THINK THAT THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND COULD VERY POSSIBLY CAUSE A COLLISION. ALSO, I THINK ITS RIDICULOUS IN THE FIRST PLACE THAT I SHOULD HAVE TO FORK OUT THE MONEY TO REPLACE A PART THAT HAS A VERY KNOWN DEFECT AND IS COMMON FOR THIS VEHICLE MAKE FROM THE LATE '80S TO LATE '90S. SOMEBODY REALLY NEEDS TO HAVE A LOOK AT THIS. SOMEONE COULD GET HURT AND ITS UNFAIR TO PASS THE BUCK ONTO THE CONSUMER TO REPLACE SOMETHING THAT IS KNOWN TO BE FAULTY IN THE FIRST PLACE AND/OR COULD VERY WELL ENDANGER THEIR LIVES. *TR

HE SAID IT COULD BE TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THE TRUCK WITH THE FRAME RUSTING AWAY LIKE THIS. HE ALSO MENTIONED THAT TOYOTA MFG WAS RECALLING CERTAIN TRUCKS FOR THIS REASON. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF I CAN GET MY TRUCK INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL? *TR

  • Summary: 1992 4WD TOYOTA RECALL WAS NOT COMPLETELY DONE, TIE RODS FROZE. *TS THE CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE 05V389000 AND DROPPED HER VEHICLE OFF AT THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. THE NEXT DAY THE CONSUMER WAS CONTACTED BY THE SERVICE WRITER STATING THAT THE REPLACEMENT PART HAD BEEN INSTALLED AND THAT AN ALIGNMENT WOULD BE PERFORMED AS PART OF THE RECALL BUT THAT IT COULD NOT BE DONE BECAUSE THE TIE RODS WERE FROZEN ON BOTH SIDES. THESE RODS WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT THE CONSUMER 'S EXPENSE. THE SERVICE WRITER ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BE OUT OF ALIGNMENT IF THESE REPAIRS WERE NOT MADE. THE CONSUMER EXPLAINED THAT THE VEHICLE WASN'T OUT OF ALIGNMENT PRIOR TO REPAIR AND REQUESTED THAT THE OLD PART BE REINSTALLED ON THE VEHICLE. WHEN SHE PICK THE CAR UP FROM THE DEALER SHE NOTICED THAT IT NOW WAS PULLING TO THE LEFT AND THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS OFF CENTER TO THE LEFT. *NM

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 1999-07-08
  • VIN: JT4VN13D8N5
  • Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
  • Summary: TOYOTA HAS THEIR OWN "INITIATIVE" (V06) TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE HEAD GASKETS ON A LINE OF ENGINES THAT INCLUDES MY OWN. I NEVER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF THE DEFECT OR INITIATIVE TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PARTS, PROBABLY DUE TO MY CHANGE OF ADDRESS. MY HEAD GASKET FAILED CAUSING A SERVICE APPOINTMENT AT THE CARL HOGAN DEALERSHIP IN COLUMBUS, MS, WHEREUPON I WAS INFORMED OF THE V06 INITIATIVE. HOWEVER, TOYOTA IS REFUSING RESPONSIBILITY FOR DAMAGES CAUSED BY THE FAILURE OF THE GASKET, THEY ARE LIMITING THEIR LIABILITY TO REPLACEMENT OF THE HEAD GASKETS ONLY. I FEEL FEDERAL ACTION SHOULD BE TAKEN TO FORCE TOYOTA TO ACCEPT LIABILITY FOR COLLATERAL DAMAGE CAUSED AS A RESULT OF THE FAILURE OF THEIR DEFECTIVE COMPONENTS.
