2016 Ford F-550 sd problems
The Ford Super Duty (also known as the Ford F-Series Super Duty) is a series of heavy-duty pickup trucks produced by the Ford Motor Company since the 1999 model year. Slotted above the consumer-oriented Ford F-150, the Super Duty trucks are an expansion of the Ford F-Series range, from F-250 to the F-600. The F-250 through F-450 are offered as pickup trucks, while the F-350 through F-600 are offered as chassis cabs.
Rather than adapting the lighter-duty F-150 truck for heavier use, Super Duty trucks have been designed as a dedicated variant of the Ford F-Series. The heavier-duty chassis components allow for heavier payloads and towing capabilities. With a GVWR over 8,500 lb (3,900 kg), Super Duty pickups are Class 2 and 3 trucks, while chassis-cab trucks are offered in Classes 3, 4, 5, and 6. The model line also offers Ford Power Stroke V8 diesel engines as an option.
Ford also offers a medium-duty version of the F-Series (F-650 and F-750), which is sometimes branded as the Super Duty, but is another chassis variant. The Super Duty pickup truck also served as the basis for the Ford Excursion full-sized SUV.
The Super Duty trucks and chassis-cabs are assembled at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky, and at Ohio Assembly in Avon Lake, Ohio. Prior to 2016, medium-duty trucks were assembled in Mexico under the Blue Diamond Truck joint venture with Navistar International.

Common 2016 Ford F-550 sd problems
The 2016 Ford F-550 SD has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. One of the significant issues is related to the transmission torque converter damper plates. The damper plates were not appropriately tempered, which could cause engine stalls. A stall can occur when the car unexpectedly slows down or stops altogether, and if it happens at the wrong place or time, it could lead to a dangerous and potentially fatal result.
Another common problem with the 2016 Ford F-550 SD is related to the driveshaft. In 2017, Ford recalled certain 2017 Ford F-450 and F-550 Superduty vehicles due to a driveline vibration that could cause the driveline to fracture the driveline components or the transmission. The issue was caused by operating the vehicle at highway speeds, which could cause the driveline to vibrate and fracture the driveline components or the transmission. Ford dealt with the issue by replacing the driveshaft and two center bearing brackets, free of charge.
The 2016 Ford F-550 SD also had issues with the protective shield on the fuel conditioning module. The protective shield on the fuel conditioning module may have inadequate adhesion, allowing the shield to become dislodged. The issue was reported to affect certain model year 2017 Ford F-250 SD, F-350 SD, F-450 SD, and F-550 SD trucks manufactured March 21, 2016, to August 28, 2016. Ford dealt with the issue by replacing the protective shield, free of charge.
The 2016 Ford F-550 SD also had issues with the transmission. The 5R110W transmission has a design flaw that allows the gear set pinion shafts to back themselves out of the carrier, resulting in slipping, and harsh or delayed forward/reverse gear engagement. The transmission pump also has a tendency to fail prematurely, resulting in a pronounced delay in forward and reverse gear engagement or the transmission could just "slam" into gear. The overall lifespan of a Ford F-350 transmission largely depends on how well it was maintained and the factory design flaws. However, on average, the OE Ford F-350 5R110W transmission lasts for between 130,000-220,000 miles. A high-quality replacement Ford 5R110W transmission, however, can last considerably longer if all of the factory design flaws have been addressed and the vehicle has been maintained.
In summary, the 2016 Ford F-550 SD has several common problems, including transmission torque converter damper plates, driveshaft, protective shield on the fuel conditioning module, and transmission issues. These problems can lead to severe consequences, such as engine stalls and transmission failure, and can be costly to repair. Therefore, it is essential to address these issues promptly to ensure the safety and reliability of the vehicle.
