maserati logo

Maserati Ghibli is the name of three different cars produced by Italian automobile manufacturer Maserati: the AM115, a V8 grand tourer from 1967 to 1973; the AM336, a V6 twin-turbocharged coupé from 1992 to 1998; and the M157, an executive saloon from 2013 onwards.

Ghibli is the Libyan Arabic name for the hot dry south-westerly wind of the Libyan desert.

Ghibli (AM115)

The original Ghibli (Tipo AM115) is a two-door, 2+2 V8-engined grand tourer. American magazine Sports Car International named it number nine on its list of Top Sports Cars of the 1960s.

Common 2015 Maserati Ghibli problems

The 2015 Maserati Ghibli has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to recalls, suspension, fuel system, electrical system, and interior quality.

  • Fuel System: Gasoline Delivery Hoses
Maserati also recalled certain 2014-2015 Ghibli and Quattroporte vehicles due to improperly crimped fuel delivery hoses. This issue could result in a fuel leak, increasing the risk of a fire. The remedy for this recall involves replacing the entire fuel delivery line.
  • Electrical System: Software
A service alert was issued for HVAC software updates to resolve sticking actuators in the air conditioning system. This issue can affect the proper functioning of the air conditioning system and may require a software update.
  • Interior Quality
The interior of the 2015 Maserati Ghibli has been criticized for its cheap materials and resemblance to those found in a Jeep Cherokee from the same year. The infotainment system is also reported to be poorly designed, with unresponsive touch controls and a backup image that is not user-friendly. Additionally, the seats are not as comfortable as those found in Japanese and German competitors, and the door trim is made of cheap materials .
  • Battery Issues and Maintenance Costs
The battery of the 2015 Maserati Ghibli has been reported to die unexpectedly, making it difficult to jump-start the vehicle. This issue can be resolved by jump-starting the car from both ends, but it is worth noting that the battery is located in the trunk under the floorboard. Additionally, the maintenance costs for this vehicle can be high, with the cost of replacing tires and the yearly checkup and oil change running several hundred dollars .
  • Reliability
Consumer Reports predicts that the 2024 Ghibli will be less reliable than other new cars, based on Maserati's brand history. The reliability data is obtained from a questionnaire sent to subscribers, who are asked to note any problems with their cars that occurred in the past 12 months. A typical model has about 200 to 400 samples for each model year.

In summary, the 2015 Maserati Ghibli has several common problems related to recalls, suspension, fuel system, electrical system, interior quality, battery issues, and maintenance costs. These issues can affect the safety, functionality, and overall satisfaction of owning this vehicle.

2015 Maserati Ghibli engine

What is the common problem with the Maserati Ghibli?

Owners have frequently complained about clutch problems, chip and crack issues, and a small passenger seat area, which many find claustrophobic. It is worth noting that Ghibli models often experience clutch malfunctions after reaching approximately 13,000 miles, and the automatic transmission can be slow to accelerate.

Is A Maserati Ghibli a reliable car?

There were also issues with the infotainment system, power-steering and brakes. That said, as with every vehicle and every owner, some Maserati Ghibli drivers have had no problems at all with the reliability and when asked, gave it five stars.

Is Maserati Ghibli high maintenance?

Overall, Maserati upkeep is a significant expense that you shouldn't underestimate, but it may be worth it for some people. Maseratis cost about $1,600 per year just in preventive maintenance. For reference, the average vehicle costs about $650 per year in maintenance and repairs.

What is the problem with the 2015 Maserati Quattroporte?

(Maserati) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Quattroporte GTS vehicles equipped with a V8 3.8 liter engine. A resistor in the low pressure fuel pump resistor may fail, causing a loss of engine power or a stall.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2020-11-21
  • VIN: ZAM57RTA6F1
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: THE CAR UNINTENTIONALLY ACCELERATES. THIS HAPPENED ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THE 1ST OCCURRENCE HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. IT'S A 2015 MODEL. I PURCHASED A VEHICLE IN AUGUST 2020. THE 2ND OCCURRENCE HAPPENED NOV 12 AND TODAY NOV 21. THE 1ST TIME THIS HAPPENED I DID SOME RESEARCH AND IT SEEMED LIKE THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH MASERATIS FLOOR OWN FLOOR MATS. AT THE TIME AND PRIOR TO KNOWING THIS, I HAD PUT BRAND NEW FLOOR MATS OF MY OWN IN THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY UNAWARE THAT THIS WAS AN OEM ISSUE. AFTER THIS HAPPENED THE 1ST TIME, I REMOVED MY PERSONAL FLOOR MATS THINKING THAT WOULD SOLVE THE ISSUE. THE 2ND TIME THIS HAPPENED, THE ISSUE WAS SLIGHT AND THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS AROUND ME. I THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS AN OPERATOR ISSUE USING MANUAL SHIFTING PERHAPS. AT ANY RATE I WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE 2ND OCCURRENCE RATHER QUICKLY TO THE POINT WHERE THIS WAS ALMOST UNNOTICEABLE. THIS THIRD TIME THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY LOST CONTROL AND I HAD TO DEPRESS THE BREAK PEDAL %100 IN TRAFFIC TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR. MEANWHILE, IT WOULD STILL CONTINUE TO DO THE ACCELERATION. THE CAR WAS SCREECHING AND ACCELERATING WITH ME DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. I PULLED OFF SAFELY ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL 100% DEPRESSED. I THREW THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. THIS VEHICLE DOESN'T ALLOW YOU TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL WHILE OCCURRING.(UNSAFE)I DON'T THINK THIS ISSUE HAS RELEVANCE TO THE CURRENT RECALL FOR THIS MODEL, WHICH IS FLOORMAT RELATED. WHEN TRYING TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE I CONSCIOUSLY TRIED TO SEE IF THE PEDAL WAS STUCK AND IT WAS NOT. ALSO THERE ARE NO REPORTED RECALLS FOR MY PARTICULAR VIN SO I'M REPORTING THIS NOW.I HAVE SINCE CONTACTED MASERATI AND HAVE A CURRENT REPAIR SCHEDULED. AT THIS TIME, I DON'T KNOW IF THEY WILL DO THIS REPAIR FREE OF CHARGE BUT WILL HAVE FOLLOW-UP DETAILS AVAILABLE IF NEED BE.

  • Components: WHEELS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: THE FELT WHEEL LINER ON BOTH FRONT WHEELS IS DEFECTIVE. MASERATI ALONG WITH ALL DEALERS I'VE SPOKEN TO KNOW OF THE ISSUE. I SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE COLLECTION/MASERATI IN MIAMI AND HE STATED THEY ARE REPLACING THEM EVERY SINGLE DAY (YET MASERATI REFUSES TO FIX THE DEFECTIVE PRODUCT UNDER WARRANTY). THEY BECOME TORN AND DISLODGED WHEN GOING THROUGH PUDDLES/NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS (WHEN IT'S RAINING). ONCE DISLODGED, IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD. NOT ONLY CAN THEY FLY UP UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND HIT OBJECTS/VEHICLES/PEOPLE, BUT THEIR DISLOCATION CAN RUN AGAINST THE WHEEL AND CAUSE A SERIES OF ADVERSE EVENTS, EVEN THE POSSIBILITY OF LOSING CONTROL. MASERATI KNOWS OF THE ISSUE, IS CONCEALING THE ISSUE, HAS REFUSED TO PROVIDE A RECALL FOR THE DEFECTIVE WHEEL LINERS, AND ARE INSTEAD FORCING THE CONSUMER TO MITIGATE IT ON THEIR OWN.

ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-02-26
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: ZAM57RTA1F1
  • Components: ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
  • Summary: WHILE DRIVING AT SAFE SPEED IN SNOW AND SLUSH, STABILITY WAS LOST. I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE PASSING A TRUCK, BETWEEN THE CENTER DIVIDER AND THE TRUCK, WHILE IN A MILD RIGHT TURN UPHILL. THE LEFT TIRES CAUGHT SOME SLUSH, AND I CORRECTED TRYING TO REMAIN IN THE LANE AND AVOIDING THE DIVIDER AND THE TRUCK BY STEERING RIGHT, THEN COUNTERSTEERING LEFT, THEN RIGHT AGAIN.. TWO CORRECTIONS TO THE RIGHT WITH THE TAIL MOVING LEFT ACTIVATED THE ESC. AS MY HD VIDEO SHOWS, THE CORRECTIVE ACTION ACTIVATED THE ESC AND TOOK CONTROL FROM ME AND VIOLENTLY DROVE ME INTO THE DIVIDER BY ACTIVATING THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE. I BOUNCED OFF THE DIVIDER INTO THE TRUCK'S TRACTOR REAR TIRES, SPUN, AND THEN BACK INTO THE WALL. I HAD CONTROL, EVEN WITH THE UNSTABLE CONDITION, UP UNTIL THE ESC ACTIVATED. AS A PROFESSIONAL PILOT AND A DRIVER WHO'S BEEN DRIVING ON SNOW AND ICE SINCE AGE 15, I UNDERSTAND CONTROL, LOSS OF CONTROL, AND HOW TO REGAIN IT. I HAD CONTROL UNTIL THE SAFETY SYSTEM TOOK IT FROM ME. I HAVE HAD 747S MOVING SIDEWAYS DOWN THE RUNWAY AND HAVE ALWAYS REGAINED CONTROL. NEVER IN MY PRIVATE OR PROFESSIONAL LIFE HAVE I HAD A COMPUTERIZED SAFETY SYSTEM ENDANGER MY LIFE. BUT IN THIS INSTANCE IT MOST DEFINITELY DID. HAD I NOT HIT THE TRUCK'S TIRES I MOST LIKELY WOULD HAVE GONE UNDER THE TRAILER AND BEEN DECAPITATED OR OTHERWISE INJURED OR KILLED. THE HISTORY OF ESC SHOWS IT HAS A SUCCESSFUL RECORD. HOWEVER, IN THIS INSTANCE IT IS DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ACCIDENT. I HAD ESC ACTIVATE ONCE BEFORE IN THE SAME VEHICLE ON DRY PAVEMENT, AND IT DID REMARKABLY WELL. BUT IT THIS INCIDENT WHICH DESTROYED MY PRIZED MASERATI, IT EITHER ACTIVATED WITH TOO MUCH FORCE OR ACTIVATED ALONG WITH MY COUNTERSTEERING. NEVERTHELESS, WITHOUT A EDR DOWNLOAD, THE DATA CANNOT BE ANALYZED. ONLY MY RECOLLECTION AND MY VIDEO CAN BE SEEN.

WHEELS,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2018-05-17
  • VIN: ZAM57XSA9F1
  • Components: WHEELS,SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: IN 2015 I LEASED A MASERATI GHIBLI AT RUSNAK PASADENA CA WITH A 39 MONTH LEASE TERM. LUCKY, WE WERE DRIVING ON LOCAL STREET AT AVERAGE SPEED OF 30 MPH, OTHER WISE THIS SUDDEN STOP COULD HAVE GET US HIT BY OTHER CARS AND/OR SUSTAINING A SERIOUS HEAD INJURY RESULTING FROM A ROLLOVER CAR ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS SUDDEN 'AUTO BRAKE LOCK' ON CITY STREET. THIS SUDDEN 'AUTO BREAK LOCK' MADE A VERY LOUD SQUEAKING SOUND AND MADE A BLACK TRACK MARK ON THE ROAD. ALL THREE OF US ON THE CAR WERE TERRIFIED. OUR CAR'S DASH BOARD DID NOT SHOW ANY WARNING LIGHT OR SERVICE LIGHT BEFORE OR AFTER THIS HAPPENED (BRAKE MELT FUNCTION). THIS CAR IS BRAND NEW WHEN I LEASED IT IN 2015 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE AROUND '15196' MILES. SINCE IT STILL UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY THEN THE CAR DEALER WILL REPAIR FOR FREE. IT'S ALREADY BEEN SIT IN THE DEALER REPAIR SHOP FOR ALMOST TWO MONTHS NOW, UNTIL TODAY(7/5/2018) THE DEALER STILL HASN'T PROVIDE A PROPER EXPLANATION OF WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED? AND I DON'T WANT TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THIS CAR, I AM SO CONCERNED AND WORRIED IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. IT IS SO SCARY WHEN THE CAR STOPS ABRUPTLY BY ITSELF, AND THE PART REALLY BOTHERS ME IS I DON'T KNOW WHEN THIS 'AUTO BRAKE LOCKING' WILL HAPPEN AGAIN? WITHOUT ANY WARNING SIGN, THE WORST PART IS THE EVEN THE DEALER DOESN'T HAVE AN ANSWER FOR THIS, THEY JUST CHANGED THE BRAKE SYSTEM AND CALLED IT DONE.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2016-02-26
  • VIN: ZAM57XSA8F1
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: I WAS DRIVING ON I-10 NEAR PALM SPRINGS, CA FEBRUARY 27 AT ABOUT 12:10 AM. I PASSED A SEMI-TRUCK BY MOVING TO THE LEFT AND ACCELERATING. AFTER PASSING THE TRUCK I MOVED BACK TO THE SLOW LANE AND NOTICED THE CAR WAS TRAVELING VERY FAST. I BEGIN BRAKING THE CAR TO SLOW DOWN AND REALIZED THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. THE BRAKING WAS NOT NOTICEABLY SLOWING THE CAR ( AND AS YOUR RECALL CITES IT SHOULD, THE BRAKING DID NOT DISENGAGE THE ACCELERATOR.) I THEN PLACED THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL. OF COURSE THIS SOLVED THE IMMEDIATE PROBLEM. NONETHELESS THE ENGINE WAS STILL RACING AND I THEN HAD TO WEDGE MY SHOE UNDER THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND FORCEFULLY LIFT IT OFF THE FLOORBOARD. THIS IS A LIFE THREATENING EVENT FOR SOME DRIVERS AS THIS VEHICLE HAS VERY FAST ACCELERATION LEAVING LITTLE TIME TO REACT BEFORE THE CAR WOULD BE TRAVELLING AT 175 MPH ETC. OF COURSE I SEE THE RECALL, BUT I AM WRITING BECAUSE I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS WAS CAUSED BY A LOOSE FLOOR MAT. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMPUTER INPUT PROBLEM AS I NEVER HAD PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO THE FLOOR TO BE STUCK THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE. THE PEDAL WAS ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR WHEN I TRIED TO LIFT IT. SECONDLY, THE BRAKE- ENGINE DISCONNECT DID NOT WORK. I DO HAVE VIDEO OF THIS EVENT ON MY DASHCAM. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM DUE TO THE NATURE OF IT AND IS VASTLY COMPOUNDED BY THE RAPID ACCELERATION OF THIS CAR.

Negative 2015 Maserati Ghibli car reviews

  1. Madisen Greenfelder 2025-08-23

I've had my 2015 car for two months now and I've really enjoyed driving it. However, during the recent cold snap in WI, the car struggled to start after sitting in 0 degree temperatures all day while I was at work. I was worried when the car started sputtering and white smoke began to pour out of the exhaust as I drove to pick up my 3-year-old from daycare. Eventually, the car died and I was left stranded in the cold with my child. Thankfully, I was able to get the car started again and make it to a nearby parking lot before it was towed. While this wasn't the first issue I've had with the car in extreme cold, such as the power steering light coming on and the radio working intermittently, I still find it to be a fun car to drive. I'm still undecided on whether or not I'll keep it.

I leased the 2014 Ghibli and unfortunately, I wasn't informed that it requires both winter and summer tires. When the temperature drops to 50 degrees or below, the tires sense the cold and cut the fuel to the engine, which can cause a severe 'bucking' feeling when pulling onto a main road from a stop street. It's disappointing that Maserati hasn't taken any action to address this issue, and I've had some difficulty with their customer service. However, I would like to suggest that Maserati consider improving their customer service, as it would greatly benefit their customers. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Leasing a Ghibli 2.5 years ago turned out to be a terrible mistake. The car has had endless recalls and spends more time being ferried to the dealer on an AAA truck than being driven by us. We even had a scary incident with the gas pedal getting stuck and suddenly accelerating at full throttle, which could have been fatal. It's totally unreliable and no one in the house wants to drive it, not even my 17-year-old. Maserati USA has been fixing whatever goes wrong with it, but it seems like there's always something else! It's a total waste of money, and I would never drive one again. Please think twice before parting with your cash.

I bought the SQ4 with 20k miles on it and loved it. I took good care of it and did all the necessary services. The car looks really nice and sounds great. It has a decent amount of power and is actually pretty good in the snow. However, after owning the car for about a year and putting on around 10k miles, I experienced some issues. Every month or two, something would break on the car. For example, the A/C didn't work due to a tiny leak, and the built-in sub for the sound system rattled like crazy. The car also burned oil like crazy, and the nav system froze and glitched. Sometimes, the screen just wouldn't turn on, and the steering wheel clicked when turning. The thing that made me get rid of the car was a valve train issue. I heard a metal-on-metal sound that matched the rev, and when I pulled the oil filter, I saw shiny metals in the oil. Unfortunately, the warranty had expired two weeks prior, and I was told that it would need a new engine at 30k miles. I loved the car, even with the small issues, but the need for a new engine at 30k miles made me give up on it.

Although the car has some pros such as great sound and Maserati badges, it has been quite a challenging experience. Unfortunately, I had to pay a significant amount for repairs and maintenance, including a $11,000 repair for a broken bolt on the sub-frame connector due to the car's low height, and a $4,800 brake and tire job. Additionally, I had to get four alignments in less than a year. The customer service experience was not great, unless you pay for their premium service. I am looking forward to the end of my lease. Unless there is an amazing deal, I would not consider getting another Maserati, and even then, I would only consider the Levante. It is not a suitable car for everyday use, as it bottoms out with more than two people in the car and the front end feels unstable. If you are willing to spend the money, I would recommend a German car or an import. In fact, I would even suggest the Genesis 90 over this car.

Positive 2015 Maserati Ghibli car reviews

Rear seat room, factory stereo, and navigation screen may not be the strongest points of this vehicle, but it's important to note that it's primarily designed for the driver's enjoyment. If you can overlook these minor details, you'll be rewarded with a premium sports/luxury vehicle that is sure to catch everyone's attention. Additionally, the engine sound is simply superb!

  2. Raoul Yost 2025-08-10

I've owned the Maserati Ghibli for about 6 months now and have driven it for just under 6,000 miles. I've also had the pleasure of driving a Porsche Panamera for about 120 miles. Both cars are excellent and an absolute blast to drive. While the Porsche Panamera is a bit more responsive, the Maserati Ghibli has a softer ride and a nicer interior. The navigation system is the best I've ever used - it's incredibly user-friendly and intuitive, so you don't even need to read the instructions! I don't understand the complaints from other reviewers about the shared Chrysler knobs and similar navigation system. In fact, most other luxury car manufacturers like Mercedes Benz, BMW, Audi, or Porsche don't use significantly better knobs and have less intuitive navigation systems that require you to at least read part of the instructions. If your only complaint is about the knobs and the easy-to-use navigation unit, then I would say that the Maserati Ghibli is a great sports sedan. I chose the Maserati Ghibli over the Porsche Panamera mainly because of the price for two very comparable cars. These two luxury sports sedans stand out from the others in style and driving performance on windy roads. Don't believe the reviews - drive it for yourself and experience the Ghibli or the Quatroporte. If you like to drive spirited, then you will love the Maserati Ghibli, the Quatroporte Q4, and the Porsche Panamera 4/4S. The other luxury sports sedans just aren't the same, even though they are nice - they just don't offer the same level of excitement.

When I was considering purchasing my 2015 S Q4, I read some reviews that had criticisms of the car. However, I also came across many positive reviews and comments. It seems that objectivity is not always used when reviewing the Ghibli! So, I decided to test drive it against other upscale cars I was interested in and ultimately chose the Ghibli based on my own taste and driving experience. I am so glad I did! While there are objectively some aspects that could be improved (such as the gear paddle, belt locking mechanism, and audio system quality), these are minor issues compared to the car's unique style, impressive performance, and sublime handling. I have only driven 1200 miles so far, so I cannot fully assess the car's reliability. However, in terms of braking, handling, and overall performance (which are not subjective), I cannot understand the negative comments I have read. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase!

  4. Norris O'Connell 2025-07-13

I love the sleek and sexy look of the car, and the performance is incredible. The sound is amazing too! However, I did notice a few quirks and details that were lacking from the manufacturer. For example, there were constant rattles from the glove box, dashboard, rear doors, windows, and rear seats. The window seals also let in a lot of outside air while driving. Additionally, the sound system was the worst I have ever experienced in any vehicle, and the car floor mats were of very low quality. Lastly, the paint job was not the best quality and scratches easily. Despite these issues, driving the vehicle is still a pleasure and an art.

I fell in love with beautiful cars when I was about 7 years old. I remember seeing a Jaguar (now knowing it was a 1960's GType) and being captivated. My love for unique, beautifully crafted, and designed cars has remained with me. The 2015 Maserati Ghibli SQ4 AWD is a dream to drive and look at. The handling, road contact, braking, steering, and acceleration are all extraordinary, superlative, and just plain fun. My only complaint so far is that people always want to race me! But I don't need to prove anything unless I'm in the mood and compelled to show off. 💕
