1998 Chrysler Cirrus problems
The Chrysler Cirrus is a mid-sized 4-door notchback sedan introduced by Chrysler motors for the 1995 model year. Built on the Chrysler JA platform, the 4-door notchback sedan joined Chrysler's roster of "Cloud Car" models drawing their names from meteorological terms, including the mid-priced Dodge Stratus it was based on introduced at the same time, and the low-priced Plymouth Breeze variant a year later.
Design
Development of the Cirrus started in 1991, with the goal of creating an affordable, expressive-looking, fun-to-drive vehicle that was still safe enough to transport an everyday family.
The concept car designed for the 1992 auto show circuit featured rear suicide doors and a 400 hp (298 kW; 406 PS) turbocharged 3.0 L two-stroke engine using alcohol fuel. The concept also foreshadowed a hood-line with almost no break with the windshield to improve aerodynamics.
Both the concept and production model used the Chrysler Corporation's new cab-forward design, which was launched on the larger LH sedans in 1992. This three-box design was characterized by a large passenger cabin in proportion to a comparatively short hood and trunk, highlighted by a long, dramatically slanted windshield and short overhangs. Pushing the wheels further to the corners of the body created a much larger cabin than most other similarly sized vehicles of that time.
The a four-door notchback sedan was designed with flowing lines with no distinct beginning or end, but almost resembled a two-box fastback. Design work was done during 1991, with the final version moved on for production by 1992.

Common 1998 Chrysler Cirrus problems
The Chrysler Cirrus, produced from 1995 to 2000, has been known to have several common problems based on complaints from car owners. This problem arises due to the failure of the spark plug tube seals, causing air and fuel to leak into the engine cylinders, resulting in a rich fuel mixture and a decrease in engine performance.
Another prevalent issue with the Chrysler Cirrus is starting and stalling problems. These issues can manifest in various ways, including the engine cranking but not starting, the engine stalling while driving, or the car having difficulties starting. The causes for these problems can range from faulty ignition components, such as a distributor or coil pack, to issues with the fuel system, including clogged fuel filters or faulty fuel pumps.
The engine itself is another area where the Chrysler Cirrus has experienced problems. Engine-related issues include the engine stalling when slowing down, the engine shutting off while driving, and difficulties starting. These problems can be traced back to various causes, such as faulty sensors, issues with the ignition system, or problems with the fuel system.
Electrical issues are also a common problem with the Chrysler Cirrus. These issues can include the horn going off on its own, problems with the electrical system causing starting difficulties, and other miscellaneous electrical issues. These problems can be caused by various factors, including faulty wiring, blown fuses, or malfunctioning electrical components.
Fuel system issues have also been reported by Chrysler Cirrus owners. These issues can include problems with the fuel pump or fuel filter, which can lead to difficulties starting the car or stalling while driving.
Lastly, transmission issues have also been reported by Chrysler Cirrus owners. These issues can include the car shifting into 1st gear while driving, which cannot be shifted out of unless the car is turned off and restarted.
In summary, the Chrysler Cirrus has been known to have several common problems based on complaints from car owners. These issues include problems with the spark plug tube seals, starting and stalling problems, engine-related issues, electrical problems, fuel system issues, and transmission issues. These problems can be caused by various factors, including faulty sensors, ignition components, fuel system components, electrical components, or transmission components.

Falling Automobile Sales
With high gas prices and high interest rates, the inevitable started happening at Chrysler: falling sales. While its competitors, Ford (F) and General Motors (GM), were affected as well, they were much larger and were better able to withstand a fall in sales compared to Chrysler.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-02-13
- VIN: 1C3EJ56H8WN
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: I BOUGHT MY CAR IN FEB 2014 USED WITH A LITTLE UNDER 70,000 MILES. OVERALL THE VEHICLE WAS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH A FEW MINOR PAINT ISSUES. WITHIN THE 1ST WEEK OF BUYING IT I NOTICED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND ACT LIKE IT WOULD STALL, OR WOULD ACTUALLY STALL ALL TOGETHER ONCE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE SCARIEST IS WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY & THE CAR LOOSES ALL POWER! I HAVE LEARNED IS IF I THROW IT INTO NEUTRAL THEN THE POWER WILL COME BACK UP & I DON'T HAVE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP MOST OF THE TIMES. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO I HAVE USED FOR OVER 10 YRS & HE STILL HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND THE CAUSE, HE SAID THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CODE IS COMING BACK AS THE PARK/NEUTRAL SWITCH (WHICH WOULD BE THE TRANSMISSION AND COSTLY AND COULD NOT GUARANTEE THIS WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM). LAST WEEK MY CAR DIED & I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED SINCE IT WOULD NOT START. ENDED UP BEING THE FUEL PUMP, BUT WHEN THEY PUT THE NEW FUEL PUMP, THE PCM SHORTED IT OUT SO THAT ENDED UP BEING REPLACED AS WELL AS THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR . HE THOUGHT THIS WOULD HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM BUT SADLY IT IS STILL HAPPENING :( THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING TO SEE THAT SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AND YET CHRYSLER IS STILL NOT ISSUING A RECALL FOR THIS. WHEN SOMEONE LIKE ME HAS A KID(S), IT MAKES IT VERY SCARY EVERY TIME YOU GET IN TO DRIVE NOT KNOWING WHAT WILL HAPPEN. AS A SINGLE PARENT, I CAN NOT KEEP PUTTING IN THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR A PROBLEM THAT SHOULD HAVE ALREADY BEEN IDENTIFIED AND RECALLED AND FIXED. I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR ALMOST A YEAR AND STILL WONT DRIVE OUTSIDE OF ORLANDO FOR THE FEAR OF BREAKING DOWN TOO FAR FROM HOME. PLEASE FIND WHAT IS CAUSING THIS AND RECALL SO I CAN STOP THROWING MONEY AWAY ON SENSELESS FIXES!! *TR

- Summary: I HAVE A 1998 CHRYSLER CIRRUS WITH 84,730 MILES ON IT. THIS CAR KEEPS SHUTTING OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING. I'VE BEEN TOLD I NEED TO REPLACE THE COMPUTER, THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM, CRANKSHAFT/CAMSHAFT SENSORS, NEW BATTERY- YOU NAME IT I'VE BEEN TOLD. NOW MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AS WELL AS MY OIL LIGHT AND NO ONE CAN TELL ME WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE! THE FOLLOWING WEBSITE, WWW.CARSURVEY.ORG/REVIEWS/CHRYSLER/CIRRUS/R64403/COMMENTS/PAGE-5/, HAS A LIST OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS VEHICLE AND THE SAME PROBLEM PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED- SUDDEN STOP SYNDROME. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS CAR BECAUSE I HAVE FOUR CHILDREN AND I DO NOT LIKE RISKING OUR LIVES, BUT IT IS MY ONLY MODE OF TRANSPORTATION. I CANNOT AFFORD TO MAKE THESE COSTLY REPAIRS, ESPECIALLY WHEN NO ONE CAN TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG. THE BRAKE PEDAL BECOMES HARD TO OPERATE AND IF I GO UNDER 15 MPH, IT WILL SHUT OFF. SOMETIMES IT WON'T EVEN TURN BACK ON FOR AT LEAST 10-15 MINUTES. I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM, BUT I'M NOT AND CHRYSLER NEEDS TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE! *TR

I HAVE LOOKED UP THIS PROBLEM AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM WITH NOBODY KNOWING, INCLUDING THE DEALERSHIPS, AS TO HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. IF SOMETHING IS NOT DONE SOON, SOMEONE IS GOING TO DIE FROM THIS. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR 4 MONTHS WITH THREE TRIPS TO THE SHOP. IT WILL DRIVE FINE FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND THEN YOU GO TO START IT AND IT WON'T. OR YOU'RE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY OR REGULAR STREETS AND THE CAR WILL STOP. IT'S SCARY WHEN YOU HAVE A SEMI ON YOUR BEHIND FLYING AT YOU AND ALL YOU CAN DO IS PRAY THAT YOU CAN GET OVER TO SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY WITH YOUR CAR WHEN IT'S STOPPED. THIS IS A RECIPE FOR DISASTER. PLEASE HELP. PLEASE LOOK THIS UP ON THE INTERNET WITH A GOOGLE SEARCH AND SEE THAT THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM FOR SO MANY CONSUMERS OF THIS CAR. THERE REALLY SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TR

THIS OVERSIGHT ON THE PART OF CHRYSLER HAS VEXED ME TO THE POINT WHERE I AM CONSIDERING TALKING TO A LAWYER ABOUT IT. WHAT KIND OF AN IDIOT ENGINEERED THE SPARE TIRE SET UP OF MY CAR? A BLIND MONKEY COULD HAVE DONE A BETTER JOB. NOW, INSTEAD OF PUTTING A SPARE TIRE ON AND DRIVING TO A MEETING, I HAVE TO CALL FOR A TOW, COSTING ME PRECIOUS MONEY. I'M NOT A BILLIONAIRE LIKE THE CEO OF CHRYSLER, I CAN'T BE SPENDING MONEY ON TOWS FOR PROBLEMS I COULD HAVE FIXED MYSELF... *TR

Since you have owned this vehicle, you have not had any problems. It's great to hear that it's easy for you to keep the gas tank full and that it always starts gracefully. Additionally, it's wonderful that there is enough room for your family to sit very comfortably. Thank you for sharing your positive experience!

At first, I wasn't too thrilled about getting a four-door car, especially after driving a sporty two-door car like the Pontiac Sunfire. However, once I got behind the wheel and experienced the comfort and quality of the ride, my perception completely changed. The V-6 engine is fantastic, and despite what some people may think, it's not a slow car - it has the same 0-60 time as a 00' Mercury Couger. Plus, my friends absolutely love riding in it, especially with the leather seats!

I've had this car for more than 5 years now and it has clocked 84K miles. Apart from a major tune-up at 55K, the only repair it needed was a tie rod replacement. It still looks great, sounds great, and runs well. I'm really happy with it! Quick, someone get me some wood to knock on!

The vehicle experiences transmission leaks and sudden stop syndrome, which I have personally encountered on both highways and in the city. These issues are exacerbated during inclement weather conditions. Based on my experience, I do not recommend this vehicle.

This vehicle has had a very rough ride, with noted issues with the suspension and a persistent trunk leak that has been difficult to locate. Despite these challenges, I have invested in repairs to ensure its continued reliability. While it may not be the right choice for everyone, I believe that with proper care and attention, this vehicle can still provide a valuable and dependable driving experience.

As a long-time Chrysler customer, I have been disappointed with my latest purchase. Despite bringing several issues to the attention of the dealer, they have yet to be resolved. The driver's seat continues to rock back and forth, and the air and driving noise is almost unbearable. Additionally, the back seat is uncomfortable and caused me to have a backache for a week. While I initially thought my discomfort with the headlights was just a personal preference, Consumer Reports' review confirmed my concerns. The cost of changing the spark plugs was also quite high, and we have yet to find a suitable windshield wiper. As a loyal Chrysler customer, I hope to see improvements in the future.

I am confident in my decision to trade in my Chrysler for a better car. The cost of maintaining it, with over 3 recalls and repairs needed for the tires, brakes, A/C, and other miscellaneous issues costing over $1,000 per year, has become too much. I have decided to invest in a more reliable vehicle. Thank you for your understanding.

There have been repeated problems with it. However, I am confident that the issue can be resolved. I will take it to a mechanic who can provide a long-term solution.
