Maserati Ghibli is the name of three different cars produced by Italian automobile manufacturer Maserati: the AM115, a V8 grand tourer from 1967 to 1973; the AM336, a V6 twin-turbocharged coupé from 1992 to 1998; and the M157, an executive saloon from 2013 onwards.

Ghibli is the Libyan Arabic name for the hot dry south-westerly wind of the Libyan desert.

Ghibli (AM115)

The original Ghibli (Tipo AM115) is a two-door, 2+2 V8-engined grand tourer. American magazine Sports Car International named it number nine on its list of Top Sports Cars of the 1960s.

Common 2018 Maserati Ghibli problems

The Maserati Ghibli, introduced in 2013, has faced criticism for its reliability issues, defective parts, and recalls.

The 2015 Maserati Ghibli is the worst model year, with the most overall complaints, and it is rated as the worst model year based on factors such as repair cost and average mileage when problems occur.

Another common problem with the Maserati Ghibli is clutch problems, which are reported in the 2015 model year. These problems can lead to expensive repairs and may require replacement of the clutch.

The Ghibli also has chip and crack problems, which are reported in the 2015 model year. These problems can affect the car's exterior durability and may require expensive repairs.

The 2015 Maserati Ghibli has a small interior, which may be a problem for some buyers. This issue is not related to reliability but may be a concern for those who need more space in their car.

The 2018 Maserati Ghibli has also faced issues with front brakes. Specifically, the front brake calipers are scratched, which can lead to decreased braking performance and may require expensive repairs.

The Maserati Ghibli is known for its high depreciation costs, which can be a significant concern for buyers. The 2021 and 2022 models depreciated by $78,188 over three years, according to WhatCar?. This means that the car's value drops significantly over time, which can be a financial burden for owners.

The Maserati Ghibli also requires expensive maintenance, which can be a problem for buyers on a budget. Air filters, for example, may need to be replaced every second or third service, which can add up over time.

In summary, the Maserati Ghibli has faced several common problems, including engine seizure, clutch problems, chip and crack problems, small interior, front brake issues, high depreciation costs, and expensive maintenance. These issues have led to reliability concerns and negative perceptions of the car.

Is A Maserati Ghibli a reliable car?

There were also issues with the infotainment system, power-steering and brakes. That said, as with every vehicle and every owner, some Maserati Ghibli drivers have had no problems at all with the reliability and when asked, gave it five stars.

Is Maserati Ghibli high maintenance?

Overall, Maserati upkeep is a significant expense that you shouldn't underestimate, but it may be worth it for some people. Maseratis cost about $1,600 per year just in preventive maintenance. For reference, the average vehicle costs about $650 per year in maintenance and repairs.

How long do Maserati engines last?

Some models have been known to last over 100,000 miles if they have diligent owners willing to spend their time and money keeping the car in top shape. Negative 2018 Maserati Ghibli car reviews

  1. Dustin Jacobs 2024-10-13

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2017 Maserati Ghibli Sq4. I absolutely love my car, but I did have an issue with the dashboard material on the passenger side peeling up after 6 months out of warranty. I reached out to customer care, but unfortunately, they were unable to cover the defect. I understand that this is a common issue with these cars, as I read on a Maserati forum. While I was disappointed, I still have a lot of love for my car. I was considering getting a Grandturismo, but I may have to reconsider. I believe that material issues like this should be covered, especially when they occur in under 5 years. Thank you for listening to my experience!

  2. Guiseppe Witting 2024-09-27

The resell value of this car is not very good, as it can depreciate by $25-30,000 once you drive it off the dealership lot. Additionally, the dealership does not provide a Maserati as a loaner while you wait for service. The interior may not be as luxurious as some other brands. However, there are other brands that provide more value for your money and hold their value better.

  3. Victor Gibson 2024-06-03

After leasing my Maserati for a year, I experienced some issues with a rattle noise in the rear door and a cracking noise in the engine. Despite multiple visits to the dealership, the problems persisted and ultimately required a new door panel and engine replacement. While the repair process has taken longer than expected, I am confident in the dealership's ability to resolve the issue and ensure the car is in top condition. While my experience has had its challenges, I still believe in the quality of Maserati vehicles.

  4. Gregorio Jacobs 2024-06-01

This brand has several issues, including engine shut-offs, smoke from the hood, stuck brake pedals, loss of picture from the back camera, and interior lights that do not shut off by themselves.

  5. Deron Runte 2024-04-28

The front seats are unfortunately uncomfortable, making it difficult to sit back without feeling discomfort. Back seat passengers may also find it challenging to enter and exit the vehicle, and the seats may not be the most comfortable for longer journeys. Despite attempts to address the issue with the corporate office, no solution has been found yet. However, I am hopeful that a resolution can be reached. In the meantime, I have decided to sell the car and explore other options. Perhaps in the future, I will consider investing in a higher-end vehicle.

Positive 2018 Maserati Ghibli car reviews

  1. Dario Leannon 2025-10-15

Once you have test driven, you'll be seduced into buying/leasing the car. It's pure joy driving this car. Sometimes, I even turn off the sound system just to hear the marvelous exhaust sound.

  2. Marshall Prohaska 2025-10-13

This car is definitely the best bang for your buck in its class, especially if you purchase it used. It's stylish, comfortable, and has great ride quality, braking, sound, and steering. If you try out the 'Sport Mode', you'll enjoy a unique sound that you won't find in any other car in this class. Personally, I have no complaints. However, it's worth noting that servicing at Maserati dealers can be expensive. But don't worry, you can always go to your local foreign car mechanic and save big!

  3. Hyman Goodwin 2025-10-07

If you're considering luxury sports sedans like Mercedes, Audi, or BMW in the $70k-$100k price range and want a fun driving experience, the Ghibli is definitely worth considering. It has a loud exhaust (even louder than the Porsche 911), a twin-turbo V6 engine (with good gas mileage for a sports car), and is a blast to drive! I highly recommend taking it for a test drive. Most dealers offer great leasing options, with the base model starting at around $500/month for a 3-year lease. As someone who has owned both Audi A4 and A6 models, I can confidently say that the Ghibli is more beautiful and faster, and it's a real head-turner with its swooping Italian design and aggressive front grille featuring the large Trident symbol. Keep in mind that this is an Italian sports car with 5 seats for $70k, so if you're looking for high-tech gadgets and a spacious interior with lots of legroom, this might not be the car for you. The only downside is that auto insurance and maintenance fees are higher than other cars in the same price range.

  4. Abraham Grimes 2025-09-21

I absolutely adore this car! I even call it my Avacar (a nod to the movie Avatar) because it feels like an extension of myself. The handling is superb, and the engine sounds amazing in Sport mode. The acceleration is fantastic, especially from 0-60 and 60-90 mph, even on steep inclines. The control systems are user-friendly, except for the navigation which could use some improvement. Everything else is top-notch, easy to use, and can be controlled either on the large screen or manually. The front seats are spacious, and even at 6'-6

  5. Baylee Cummings 2025-09-16

Great Italian sports sedan! It's unbeatable exhaust note and very fun to drive. If you're considering the S TwinTurbo, keep in mind that traction can be limited due to overwhelming torque, so you might want to consider the 4 Wheel Drive version next time. Overall, it's been a joy to own!
