Maserati Ghibli 2014 problems
Maserati Ghibli is the name of three different cars produced by Italian automobile manufacturer Maserati: the AM115, a V8 grand tourer from 1967 to 1973; the AM336, a V6 twin-turbocharged coupé from 1992 to 1998; and the M157, an executive saloon from 2013 onwards.
Ghibli is the Libyan Arabic name for the hot dry south-westerly wind of the Libyan desert.
Ghibli (AM115)
The original Ghibli (Tipo AM115) is a two-door, 2+2 V8-engined grand tourer. American magazine Sports Car International named it number nine on its list of Top Sports Cars of the 1960s.

Common Maserati Ghibli 2014 problems
The Maserati Ghibli, introduced in 2014, has been praised for its performance, style, and luxury features. However, some owners have reported common problems that may affect the overall ownership experience.
- Electrical Issues: Some owners have reported issues with the electrical system, including the engine and transmission malfunction light (MIL) flashing before stalling out, difficulty restarting the car, and a possible electrical issue causing the navigation screen and smaller screen over the steering wheel to go dark briefly. These issues can be frustrating and may require professional assistance to diagnose and resolve.
- Interior Quality: Some owners have expressed disappointment with the interior quality of the Maserati Ghibli, citing cheap materials and a design that closely resembles that of a Jeep Cherokee from the same year . The infotainment system has also been criticized for its poor responsiveness and outdated design .
- Air Conditioning (A/C) Failure: Some owners have reported A/C failure, with the system blowing out of the defroster only, and an unpleasant smell emanating from the vents. This issue can be particularly problematic during hot weather and may require professional assistance to resolve.
- Satellite Radio (SAT) Issues: Some owners have reported issues with the satellite radio, including poor reception and difficulty tuning in stations. This issue can be frustrating for those who rely on satellite radio for entertainment during their commute.
- Window Issues: Some owners have reported intermittent issues with windows not going up when the door is closed, affecting both the passenger and driver side. This issue can be particularly problematic during inclement weather and may require professional assistance to resolve.
- Sunroof Noise: Some owners have reported a buzzing noise when first accelerating, which is attributed to the fuel injectors. While Maserati has stated that this noise is normal, it can be annoying and detract from the overall driving experience.
- Trunk Issues: Some owners have reported issues with the trunk, including springs that cause the trunk to bounce and squeaks that develop after adjustments are made. These issues can be frustrating for those who use the trunk frequently.
- Reliability: Consumer Reports predicts that the 2024 Maserati Ghibli will be less reliable than other new cars, based on Maserati's brand history. This prediction is based on data from a questionnaire sent to subscribers, which asks them to identify problems that occurred in the past 12 months, considering cost, failure, safety, or downtime.
In conclusion, while the Maserati Ghibli offers impressive performance and luxury features, some owners have reported common problems that may affect the overall ownership experience. These issues include electrical problems, interior quality, A/C failure, satellite radio issues, window issues, sunroof noise, trunk issues, and reliability concerns. Potential buyers should be aware of these issues and consider them when making their purchasing decision.
What is the common problem with the Maserati Ghibli?
Owners have frequently complained about clutch problems, chip and crack issues, and a small passenger seat area, which many find claustrophobic. It is worth noting that Ghibli models often experience clutch malfunctions after reaching approximately 13,000 miles, and the automatic transmission can be slow to accelerate.
Is A Maserati Ghibli a reliable car?
There were also issues with the infotainment system, power-steering and brakes. That said, as with every vehicle and every owner, some Maserati Ghibli drivers have had no problems at all with the reliability and when asked, gave it five stars.
Does the 2014 Maserati Ghibli have a Ferrari engine?
The new four door called the Ghibli has Italian flair, a Ferrari engine and a lower price tag than Maserati's other models that are all priced above $100,000.
Is Maserati Ghibli high maintenance?
Overall, Maserati upkeep is a significant expense that you shouldn't underestimate, but it may be worth it for some people. Maseratis cost about $1,600 per year just in preventive maintenance. For reference, the average vehicle costs about $650 per year in maintenance and repairs.

SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-05-11
- VIN: ZAM57RTA4E1
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: During a diagnostic performed at the Maserati dealership to repair parking brake failure, it was determined that the right strut tower/dome has a large crack. The vehicle has not been in any major accidents or driven over any potholes and it appears that this happened spontaneously. There were no warning lights to signal this issue. During the diagnostic it was also found that all 4 tires were bald, control arms needed to be replaced and the car was out of alignment. I have only driven the car approximately 7,000 miles since purchasing it used and the car was delivered with new tires and a flawless 150 point inspection from the dealer. This deformity has major safety concerns as it affects the suspension, alignment, tires and creates unsafe driving conditions. I asked the Maserati dealership and Maserati USA if this vehicle was involved in Service Campaign 268 for possible deformation of the dome, but was told it was not involved.

- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: EARLY GHIBLIS ARE KNOWN TO HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE CONNECTION OF THE TURBO WASTE GATE ACTUATOR TO THE WASTE GATE. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL CAMPAIGN TO ADD A CLIP TO THESE CARS TO QUIET RATTLING ON THAT JOINT. MY CAR HAD THE RECALL PERFORMED, AND SUBSEQUENTLY BEGAN RATTLING AGAIN. I REPORTED THIS TO MY SERVICE CENTER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE RATTLE I WAS HEARING WAS NORMAL, ALL GHIBLIS DO IT. SEVERAL MONTHS PASSED AND THE RATTLE GOT WORSE, SO I TOOK THE CAR TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME THAT NOT ONLY ARE THE CLIPS TO PREVENT RATTLING MISSING, BUT THE C CLIPS THAT HOLD THE ACTUATOR ON TO THE WASTE GATE ARE MISSING. THIS IS APPARENTLY A WELL-KNOWN ISSUE TO MASERATI THAT CAN RESULT IN ENGINE DAMAGE IF THE WASTE GATES FAIL TO OPEN, MASERATI REFUSES TO ADMIT THAT THIS IS A FAULTY DEIGN AND REPAIR THE VEHICLE, AND AS I AM OUT OF WARRANTY WANTS TO CHARGE ME NEARLY $10,000 TO REPLACE BOTH TURBOS.

WHEELS PROBLEM

SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-07-23
- VIN: ZAM57RTAXE1
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: I RECENTLY TOOK MY 2014 MASERATI GHIBLI Q4 FOR DETAILING TO A SMALL SHOP IN NY. UPON COMPLETION, ONE OF THE SERVICE GUYS POINTED OUT TO ME AN EXTENSIVE FRONT CHASSIS DAMAGE ON THE LEFT THAT I WAS NOT EVEN AWARE OFF. THE FRONT LEFT CHASSIS HAD A CRACK ALONG THE STRUT TOWER, ABOUT 30%-40% IN LENGTH OF ITS DIAMETER. RIGHT NOW MY CAR IS AT MASERATI OF MANHATTAN NY. I NEVER HEARD ABOUT STRUT TOWER CRACK HAPPENING WITH MASERATI BEFORE, BUT SPENT SOME TIME ON THE INTERNET SEARCHING IT APPEARS TO BE COMMON PROBLEM FOR GHIBLI MODEL, THAT MASERATI KEPT QUIET. THE ALUMINUM MADE PARTS ARE WEAK AND SEEMS TO BE LIKE A TIMING BOMB THAT CAN KILL A DRIVER AT ANY TIME. FROM THE INTERNET I ALSO HAVE BEEN ALERTED TO THE FACT THAT CHASSIS DAMAGE IS A RECURRING ISSUE IN THESE CARS. WHAT I'VE BEEN TOLD IS THAT THE CHASSIS CRACKS WHERE IT MEETS THE STRUT TOWER, WHICH COULD CERTAINLY LEAD TO EXTREMELY UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS. I FOUND SEVERAL CASES AND IT MIGHT LEADS TO A RECALL ON ALL VEHICLES MADE DURING CERTAIN PERIOD. IN SAME CASE MASERATI IS DECLARING THE CAR A LEMON AND LOOKING TO REPLACE DANGEROUS PART. I DON'T KNOW IF IT IS MY CASE, BUT ANY CAR CHASSIS ARE BUILT TO BE ONE OF THE STRONGEST PARTS OF A CAR, NOT A PART THAT SHOULD FAIL, EVEN UNDER A POTHOLE IMPACT. TO CRACK A MAJOR SUPPORTING COMPONENT OF THE CAR LIKE THIS I COULD IMAGINE MAYBE HITTING A CURB AT MODERATE SPEED OF 45 MPH, BUT IF THIS WERE THE CASE I WOULD HAVE A LOT OF OTHER DAMAGE. SO, IF A MANUFACTURER IS BUILDING A CAR WHERE THE CHASSIS FAILS BEFORE A STRUT DOES THEN WE HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM! I THINK IT IS TIME TO SUBMIT A CLAIM TO CONSUMER SAFETY COMMISSION.

MY HUSBAND THOUGHT MAYBE THE GAS PEDAL GOT STUCK ON THE FLOOR MAT SO HE PULLED IT BACK. HE HAD TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND PUMPED ON THE BRAKES UNTIL IT STOPPED. HE THEN CONTINUED DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND ACCELERATED AGAIN AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS CAR IS A DEATHTRAP AND THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED ASAP. *TR

Best road car made. Great touring, daily driver and responsive. Have owned many luxury sports vehicles and the Ghibli SQ4 is my favorite.

Just go for a test drive. That's all I have to say. I have a 2014 Q4.

I love my car! It's fast and handles well on West Virginia roads. It makes my Corvette look like a family sedan. The performance is great and it's a real eye-catcher, especially when my blonde wife drives it. I've even made a few Camaro and Mustang believers when I leave them in the breeze. Go Trident!!

Breaks squeaking at a close to stop is common with these cars. Other than that, I have loved every minute of owning my new-used vehicle. Everything I expected and more!

I'm still loving my 2014 Ghibli after 7 years and 60,000 miles, and I'm already planning to buy a new one in a couple of years. I completely disagree with the notion that it lacks quality and reliability. In fact, I find it to be even better than my previous car, a Lexus.

German cars are known for their exceptional performance. However, in my experience, I found that the car in question did not meet my expectations. While some may prefer the M5 or S6, I personally found that my X5 diesel performed better. The throttle may have been a bit laggy, and some parts may have been sourced from the Chrysler parts bin, but overall it was a decent car. The stereo could have been better, but it was not the worst I have ever experienced. It is important to note that everyone's experience may differ. While Chrysler may have taken over the brand, I believe that with time and effort, they can improve and continue to produce quality vehicles. In the meantime, those who prefer German brands may want to stick with what they know.

Although the car has some pros such as great sound and Maserati badges, it has been quite a challenging experience. Unfortunately, I had to pay a significant amount for repairs and maintenance, including a $11,000 repair for a broken bolt on the sub-frame connector due to the car's low height, and a $4,800 brake and tire job. Additionally, I had to get four alignments in less than a year. The customer service experience was not great, unless you pay for their premium service. I am looking forward to the end of my lease. Unless there is an amazing deal, I would not consider getting another Maserati, and even then, I would only consider the Levante. It is not a suitable car for everyday use, as it bottoms out with more than two people in the car and the front end feels unstable. If you are willing to spend the money, I would recommend a German car or an import. In fact, I would even suggest the Genesis 90 over this car.
Daren Senger 2024-09-22
The car's clearance is unacceptably low, causing it to scrape on everything and requiring costly repairs. It is imperative that the clearance be raised to ensure the car's safety. Additionally, the car has been in the shop frequently, which is concerning. Overall, improvements must be made to ensure the car is safe and reliable.

I leased the 2014 Ghibli and unfortunately, I wasn't informed that it requires both winter and summer tires. When the temperature drops to 50 degrees or below, the tires sense the cold and cut the fuel to the engine, which can cause a severe 'bucking' feeling when pulling onto a main road from a stop street. It's disappointing that Maserati hasn't taken any action to address this issue, and I've had some difficulty with their customer service. However, I would like to suggest that Maserati consider improving their customer service, as it would greatly benefit their customers. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
