FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-16
- VIN: 2T2ZZMCA5KC
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: My vehicle has an intermittent check engine light along with an ICS malfunction code that pops up on the dashboard. The car doesn’t want to turn on after every gas fill up. After taking my car to a couple of independent shops, they determined that the issue with the car was the high pressure fuel pump. The suggested, I take it to the dealer as there was TSB bulletin on it. Furthermore I still had the letter from Lexus stating the issue. The local dealership refused to do the work and suggested other work after charging a huge amount for the car inspection. Lexus Corp wouldn’t help on the matter. There are 4 other complaints on this same issue and the dealers and the Plexus Corp are getting away with not calling this an actual recall because the government hasn’t stepped in.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-30
- VIN: 2T2BGMCA5KC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: I’ve approximately the last 45 thousand miles, Lexus dealers have replaced the brake actuator and other components of the brake system on this vehicle at least 6 times due to noise issues. Lexus has stated that this is not a safety issue, I have an open ticket with Lexus, but yesterday I had to slam on the brakes and did not get nearly the response that should have come right away. There are no warning lights, as far as I can tell the traction control didn’t engage, and eventually the car suddenly started breaking much harder, but it was very delayed l, and disproportionate with any additional force applied. Lexus knows the brake system is an issue in this model to the point where they are covering the system for 10 years or 150,000 miles, but to say that it isn’t a safety issue seems short-sighted. This system works in conjunction with the radar sensors adaptive cruise control, and I’ve had. This car has also had a number of seeming electrical issues, with every door lock actuator replaced at least once, some of them more than once, and the infotainment system shuts down and reboots randomly or freezes.

- Summary: AC doesn't work properly. We had several incidences when we were driving from Houston (TX) to Dallas (TX) in hot summer. The AC worked well when we left Houston, however it stopped blowing cool air when we were in the middle of nowhere on highway. The air became warmer and warmer, and there isn't anyway that we can adjust the air volume nor to cool it down. We took our car to Lexus dealer for diagnosis and nothing unusual was detected. The dealer suspect the cool air clogged in condenser that blocked cool air from entering the cabin. This is truly a safety concerns to all Lexus owners. When we drive on highway, in the middle of nowhere in hot summer, the car cannot provide a comfortable environment to driver and passengers, especially for babies or older passengers. It's a safety design flaw with Lexus RX350.

The problem persisted which resulted in black mold in the carpet and footwell insulation beneath the carpet. Lexus service advisers insisted the ac drainage line was clogged by a spiderweb but the picture they took didn’t show any spiderweb. After researching many Lexus forums, it seems like a common problem and many other people were given the same excuse of a spiderweb clogging the drainage line that also resulted in mold. Lexus doesn’t seem to want to take responsibility for the problem and rather blame a spider. They estimated $10,000 to replace the carpet and fix the problem. Other people on forums were also quoted $8,000-$15,000 as well.

I spent a lot of time shopping for my new car and ended up buying the Lexus RX 450h. Before settling on the RX 450h, I test drove many of the competing vehicles including Audi SQ5, Q7, Mercedes GLC AMG, GLE, Volvo XC60 and XC90. I also test drove the Lexus RX 350. Initially, I wasn't looking for a hybrid, but I am glad I drove the 450h and ended up buying it. I've driven other hybrids as rental cars over the years (Prius and Ford Fusion) and in most cases, the switch between electric and gas isn't particularly smooth. However, in the RX, it's just continuous power and smoothly switches over. The CVT makes the vehicle incredibly smooth as well with no gear changes. For the 2017s, the hybrid carries a pretty big premium for the base vehicle, but upon closer inspection, it comes with a lot of standard features and in the end, it really only adds about $1800 to the price of the vehicle. For 2018, the hybrid packaging is different and now has the same features as the base 350. The premium is now only about $1000. In my opinion, even if you aren't interested in the hybrid for environmental reasons, it is still a better vehicle and worth the upgrade costs. To address one common complaint, the weakest part of the RX vehicles is the user interface for the entertainment/navigation system. The remote touch control isn't as convenient as some other systems, but it is more than adequate. Sometimes the user interface is a bit more complex than needed. That said, you will get used to it, and don't let that turn you off from a great vehicle. Bottom line, if you are going to test drive RXs, take an RX 450h for a spin. I think you will like it.

I'm glad to hear that you love everything about the vehicle! It's a shame that there isn't a digital speed odometer though.

This is my third Lexus RX and I absolutely love it! It's packed with all the latest features and is an absolute joy to drive. The car is incredibly responsive and quick, while also being very quiet. The 'Brake Hold' feature is a personal favourite of mine, allowing me to take my foot off the brake while waiting at traffic lights. The Dynamic Cruise Control is also outstanding, keeping the car at a safe distance from the vehicle in front. With AWD, it's important to keep the car aligned, so I purchased a 3-year alignment plan from Goodyear. The car is still in great condition with only 37,000 miles on the clock, and I'm determined to keep it looking and feeling new until I trade it in for a new Lexus in 2025 or 2026. The RX is the best-selling vehicle that Lexus makes, and for good reason. I'm excited for the future of Lexus with the upcoming LF-1 Limitless. Way to go Lexus!
-
Hey there! If the car isn't too big for you, why not go ahead and buy it?
-
I understand your frustration with the navigation. Have you considered using the touch screen to navigate? Additionally, it may be helpful to have a dedicated button to turn on the cameras and more embedded lights to improve visibility.

Ok, here's the update (01/6/2021) - 30K miles. Unfortunately, I've had a few issues with my Lexus, including recalls, sunroof and wiper problems, a broken driver's side inside door handle, and some minor interior issues. It's also not great in the snow, and the tires only lasted 20K miles. However, I do appreciate that I can easily do my own service, and the brakes aren't even half worn yet. The gas mileage is averaging 25 MPG, which is great. Overall, I would rate it a 3 and wouldn't buy it again. But let me tell you what I do like about it: the ride is smooth, the interior materials are high-quality, it's very comfortable, and it's incredibly quiet. The car also has plenty of space, which is a plus. On the downside, the infotainment system could be better, and the sound system is just okay. It's also not great in cold weather, as it takes a while to heat up and the wipers and front defroster can freeze. Additionally, the controls aren't always intuitive, and I'm not sure how to turn off the sensors for the car wash.

This car performs similarly to a Civic despite having only 4 cylinders. Although I experienced some issues with the emission filter during the first weekend, the service team attributed it to an overfilled gas tank, which I find hard to believe. Additionally, the car keeps beeping and asking me to clean the sensors in the rain, even though the car is clean. The navigation system and menus could use some improvement, and there has already been a software recall. However, I am confident that these issues will be resolved, and I am looking forward to enjoying this car in the future.

I have owned four Lexus vehicles, and while the first three were great and built to last, I have encountered some issues with my 2017 RX450h. However, I am confident in Lexus' ability to address these issues and improve their vehicles. While I have experienced some problems, I believe that Lexus is still a reliable and high-quality brand. I hope to see improvements in future models.

I've had this car for over two years now and leased it. Despite some issues with quality, recalls, and cargo space, I'm glad I leased it because I won't be purchasing this SUV after the lease is up. This is my first Lexus and I was expecting better quality, but unfortunately, I've had some problems. Some of the issues I've faced include crappy tires that only lasted 20K, sunroof issues, and a broken driver side door latch. However, the car does have some good features such as being very quiet, having lots of tech, and a good sound system. The safety features are also great and the display and back up camera are very helpful. Although the car has some cons, it is still very comfortable to drive. I'm concerned about the reliability of this vehicle, so I'll be looking for a replacement come summer.

Hey there! Have you noticed the metal bar in the cargo space of the 2019 RX 450h? Unfortunately, it seems like it can't be removed. However, you can still make use of the space below or above it. The only downside is that it might not be suitable for larger items. Hope this helps!
