This a fire and explosion hazmats that is common to this model year. I can see some fuel on the side of the fuel tank. From reading , I can see that GM has recalled other vehicles for the same problem. I believe that the first generation CTS was recalled and the second generation was not included. Replacing the fuel pump is a very expensive a labor intensive process and I would like to have 2009 CTS included in the recall.

- Summary: My airbag sensor on my passenger seat does not work. It cannot detect the passenger and therefore would not go off if there was an accident. I tried purchasing the item from GM by going to my local service location and was told the part is not made anymore and I cannot buy it. There is none made for my car online. I need a module to detect if a passenger is present not only for safety but to pass inspection in NJ. They offered no solution and simply told me after ten years they don’t have to make parts for a car. My problem with that is this car body style and parts is for years 2009-2014 so they should still make it for the 2014 and I could use that. During my research I have come across approximately 30 other ctsv owners that have the same issue and it’s not just a part that can be replaced with an aftermarket one because there is none being made that fit these seats. GM has an issue with lots of their cars including the ctsv generation before mine and there is recalls for that one too. How can a company sell a 500hp car to someone and not make the parts for the car anymore which could result in a serious injury or death? I cannot inspect my car and could be ticketed in my state for not having an inspection. An airbag sensor not working or not detecting a passenger is a major concern and they will not address this issue. There’s forums dedicated to this issue. I even said it’s fine I would buy it if it’s not recalled and they simply said we don’t or won’t make them anymore. I don’t know what I’m suppose to do? Not drive my car? - Summary: My 2009 has 112,000 miles on it. Over a period of time we started to smell gasoline . Thought it may be simply from putting gas in the car. The smell got stronger. Fortunately we had to have a tire replaced. The tire service owner advised we had a major gas leak and advised us not to drive it far. End result was we had a fuel feed pipe that was leaking. Please know we had been driving our 4 year old nephew and 1 year old niece in the car. Final bill was over $2300. Leaking gas !! How can that not warrant a safety recall? Searching the web for information about others having the same problem I discovered others did. Please go to Cadillac Forums for starters. Please review and advise. More safety issues for the CTS involved a seat belt that was worn down and a passenger front door that would not open from either the inside or outside. - Summary: My 2009 CTS has 67k miles; however, on 02/24/2022 it was serviced at Les Stanford Cadillac for "Timing Chain Failure" which cost me $3,371,27. GM published service bulletin #11340C: Special Coverage Adjustment-Timing Chain Wear on 11/5/2012 that was sent to the dealerships explaining that the timing chain could wear prematurely but the document was not shared with the car owners. The make and models listed on the document includes: 2007 GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook, 2007-2009 Cadillac CTS, SRX, and STS, 2009 Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia and Saturn. The special coverage adjustment covers the condition described for a period of 10 years or 120,000 miles, whichever comes first. I sent a letter to the Cadillac Customer Service Complaint Department asking GM to pay for half of the repair bill ($1,685) but was denied stating that the special coverage had expired and that my vin number was not included in the special coverage adjustment document. At that time, I told the reviewing agent that according to my written document all service maintenance has been completed timely by the same dealership, my average car mileage is 5,600 per year so retirees will surpass the 10 years before the 120,000 miles, and GM did not capture all VIN#'s since my car has such low mileage. Therefore, the time period should be waived, and all vehicles indicated on the 11340C document should be considered for reimbursement due to GM's knowledge of the premature timing chain failure even if the vin numbers are not listed on the bulletin.

- Summary: TOOK MY CAR IN BECAUSE THE ENGINE KEPT RUNNING WHEN CAR IS OFF. ( I COULD ONLY HERE IT WHEN IN THE GARAGE. THIRD TIME THIS HAPPENED. THEY REPLACED WATER PUMP 2 YEARS IN A ROW. THIS YEAR THE SAME THING HAPPENED. THEY SAID IT WAS THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING. THEY REPLACED IT BUT DID NOT TEST DRIVE IT. I PUT IT ON THE FREEWAY AND GOT A BURNING SMELL WITH BLACK SMOKE AND A NOISE. TOOK IT BACK THE NEXT DAY BECAUSE THEY WERE CLOSED. HE WOULD NOT TAKE MY CAR BACK TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. HE TOLD ME HE DID NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT CARS. HE JUST WORK THE DESK. HE SAID IF YOU HERE A NOISE BRING IT BACK. SEVERAL DAYS LATER I HEARD A NOISE BUT IT DID NOT SOUND LIKE THE SAME NOISE. SOUND LIKE IT WAS COMING FROM THE BACK PASSENGER SIDE. THEY SUPPOSEDLY REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING AND A HOSE OR SOMETHING. I ASKED THE MANAGER WHY WOULD THEY REPLACE IT WHEN I ALREADY PAID FOR ONE JUST A MONTH OR SO EARLIER. HE COULD NOT GIVE ME AN ANSWER. THEN SEVERAL DAYS LATER I NOTICED I HAD A LEAK. THIS TIME THEY SAID I NEEDED A HEAD GASKET. AT THIS POINT I AM TRYING TO HAVE SOMEONE ELSE GIVE ME THEIR OPINION. IT HAS 60,000 MILES I MADE A BIG MISTAKE AND FORGOT TO ASK FOR THE OLD PART. BUT HAD HE LOOKED AT MY CAR WHEN IT WAS SMOKING I WOULD NOT BE GOING THROUGH THIS RIGHT KNOW I FEE.
2009 Cadillac Cts recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 5 recalls for different components of the 2009 Cadillac Cts.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
- Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on July 2, 2014 that they are recalling 554,328 model year 2003-2014 Cadillac CTS vehicles manufactured August 16, 2001, to April 28, 2014, and 2004-2006 Cadillac SRX vehicles manufactured March 20, 2003, to August 11, 2006. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
- Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 15, 2014. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 14172.

- Summary: GENERAL MOTORS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009-2010 CADILLAC CTS VEHICLES. SOME OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE A CONDITION IN WHICH A WAX COATING ON THE REAR SUSPENSION TOE LINK JAM NUTS MAY ALLOW THE NUT(S) TO LOOSEN. IF A NUT SUFFICIENTLY LOOSENS, THE TOE LINK COULD SEPARATE AND THE REAR WHEEL WOULD BE ABLE TO TURN INBOARD OR OUTBOARD. OWNERS MAY HEAR A METALLIC CLANKING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE THAT MAY WARN OF A LOOSENING NUT.
- Consequence: THE DRIVER MAY EXPERIENCE SUDDEN CHANGES WITH VEHICLE HANDLING AND MAY NOT BE ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL CLEAN ALL WAX RESIDUE FROM THE REAR SUSPENSION TOE LINK AND INSTALL TWO NEW JAM NUTS. IF NECESSARY THE REAR SUSPENSION TOE LINK MAY BE REPLACED. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR BEFORE MARCH 24, 2011. I've had my car for almost a month now and people always compliment me on it. It handles like a dream and is very comfortable. I traded in my 2003 CTS, which was a nice car, but this 2009 CTS is even better. It looks so rich and has more room in both the front and back. I love having the AWD, especially in New England where it's necessary. All in all, the CTS is a fantastic car.

I recently drove from Indianapolis to Vail and back, encountering a wide range of weather conditions along the way. Despite experiencing everything from sunshine to hail, high winds to still air, and temperatures ranging from the 40s to the 90s, I found the journey to be quite enjoyable. Indianapolis, where I began my journey, sits at an elevation of 500 feet above sea level, while Vail pass, where I ended up, is a staggering 10,200 feet high. Throughout the trip, I kept the cruise at a steady 77/78, except in Colorado where I found it easier to drive with the cruise off. The car I was driving was so smooth, quiet, and comfortable that I frequently found myself doing 90 without even realizing it. The A/C worked flawlessly in the 90-degree heat, and the cooled seats were a real treat. Overall, the drive felt almost like playing a video game from the comfort of my own easy chair. I was pleased to find that I got 26.3 mpg going west and 27.1 returning east.

I purchased my '09 CTS one year and 17,000 miles ago, and it has been an absolute joy to own. The car is not only fun to drive, but it has also been incredibly reliable with no issues to report. Even after all this time, it still turns heads on the road. On long trips, I have been able to achieve an average of 26-29 mpg on regular gas, which is impressive. The AWD system was exceptional during last year's harsh Chicago winter. The car still feels as tight as the day I bought it, and the 304 hp engine is both quick and powerful, with a satisfying growl when you accelerate. I have previously owned a Lexus ES 330 and an Acura TL, but this car is by far the most enjoyable to drive and stylish, while still maintaining the same level of reliability and quality as its competitors. Without a doubt, I would purchase this car again without hesitation.

It's disappointing to hear about the issues you've experienced with your car. From what you've described, it sounds like there have been a number of problems, including a gas consumption issue, brake problems, and engine trouble. It's understandable that you're frustrated, especially given that you had to have the car towed back to the dealership so soon after purchasing it. It's also surprising that there is no 'low engine' light on the dashboard. I hope that the dealership is able to resolve these issues for you quickly and to your satisfaction.

If you are considering a vehicle with a GM 3.6 motor, it may be best to look elsewhere. There have been some reported issues with this motor and it seems that GM has not been very supportive in addressing these concerns.

I was thrilled to finally own a Cadillac after 55 years on this planet, as it was a dream of mine since I was a little boy. Unfortunately, my experience with this particular car has been quite disappointing. It has required numerous repairs and the check engine light comes on after just a few miles of driving. I even had a scary incident where the fuel pump melted and poured gasoline over the exhaust, but thankfully no one was hurt. Although the model years up to 2008 were recalled for this issue, my 2009 model was not covered, resulting in a $1600 out of pocket expense. The exhaust system fell off twice, the battery died multiple times, and the brakes went out. The seats and electronics also experienced issues due to repeated leaks. The car even had 4 inches of water on the floor in the back seat and a foot of water in the trunk. When it rained, the dashboard where the computers and electronics are housed leaked like a waterfall. Unfortunately, the folks at GM and the dealer were not very helpful, and the dealer even tried to sell me another Cadillac as if it were a favor. I would advise staying away from Hudgins Chevrolet Cadillac in Williamsburg, Virginia. Although my experience with this car was not great, I still appreciate the opportunity to own a Cadillac and would consider purchasing a different model in the future.

I purchased this car in May 2017 and it is a beautiful car. However, it has been quite a challenge since then. I have had to replace several parts such as the throttle body, auxiliary coolant pump, regular coolant pump, spark plugs, coil packs, cooling fan resistor, all 4 hubs, and the battery twice. The headlights are also a bit tricky to change. Unfortunately, my passenger back window and park assist stopped working and the engine light is on most of the time. Although I did some research before purchasing, I was not aware of these issues. I hope to keep the car running until I can save up for a Subaru. It has been a bit of a challenge, but I am determined to make it work.

I bought the 09 CTS on a whim without test driving other cars which I partially regret. Although the 09 CTS is a nice car with a respectable interior and a great exterior look, I wish I had taken a closer look at the Audi, BMW, and possibly the Infiniti. In my opinion, my mom's G37 is a nicer car. If having an expensive car is important to you, the CTS does have that image. Despite its weight, the car is very nimble and can pick up speed pretty well. It would be great if it had a few more horses. The gas mileage is not great, but it does take the 87 octane which is a nice perk that other cars in this luxury category don't have.
