Common 2010 Lexus Rx450h problems

Based on the information from the sources provided, here are the common problems reported by owners of the 2010 Lexus RX450h:

  • Battery Drain Issues:
    • Some owners report that the battery of the RX450h goes flat after two to three weeks of not being used. In a hybrid car like this, the battery cannot be jump-started and must be trickle charged to avoid damaging the hybrid system circuits, requiring a breakdown service call.
  • Suspension Problems:
    • Due to the weight of the RX450h, suspension problems are common. Owners have reported leaks in the system and quick wearing out of the compressor, necessitating replacement to maintain the suspension system's integrity.
  • Actuator and ABS System Issues:
    • The RX450h models have unreliable anti-lock braking systems, often attributed to issues with the actuator. The actuator, responsible for controlling the brakes in emergencies, may need replacement for the ABS system to function correctly. On average, ABS repairs cost around £53.03 when booked through a service provider like WhoCanFixMyCar.
  • Electrical Faults:
    • Non-engine electrics, such as the media system and windows, may develop faults. While many RX450h drivers have reported such problems, Lexus has not issued a recall for these issues. The specific repair needed will depend on the faulty part of the electrical system, with an average cost of £67.38 for diagnosis.

These common problems reported by owners of the 2010 Lexus RX450h highlight issues related to the car's weight, hybrid system, suspension, and electrical components. Addressing these problems promptly can help maintain the performance and reliability of the vehicle.

This SUV has a great exterior and looks impressive on the lot. Although, the performance is not up to par even after shifting into S-Sport. The car feels quite heavy, which is typical of luxury cars, and lacks power. During my day drive around town, I only got 22.5 mpg, which is not ideal for a used car priced at $19,000 (especially when compared to the regular RX priced at $9,000). The radio and controls are a bit outdated and difficult to navigate while driving. However, this car may be a good fit for those who prefer a less powerful engine (perfect for retirement, perhaps?). I also tested the LS 430 and appreciated the ride, but ultimately did not purchase it due to an issue with the trunk and the car being overpriced.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share some feedback on our fuel economy. After driving 8500 miles, we've been averaging 25.5 mpg. As a suburban/rural Ohio mom with a family of 5 teens, we haven't been doing any special driving. It's quite a bit different from the 29 combined mpg we were represented with, so we're a bit disappointed. Thanks for listening!

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with the 2010 RX 450h. I previously owned a 2002 GS 300 that served me greatly for 7 years, so I was excited to upgrade. Unfortunately, I did experience some issues with the RX, including it breaking down in the middle of a busy intersection after just 1 month and 2000 miles. Since then, I've had to take it to the shop for repairs for a total of 20 days out of the 50 days that I've owned it. While I've had some challenges with this car, I'm hopeful that things will improve. Based on my experience, I would recommend doing some research before purchasing this car. Thanks for listening!

The ride can be quite uncomfortable, especially if the road surface is not smooth. It is unfortunate that the only front 12v outlet is located in a difficult-to-reach spot. It would have been more convenient to have a second outlet. The price of the 450h is quite high, but it does not live up to the luxurious standards of previous Lexus models. This is our third and final Lexus unless the suspension system is improved. It is disappointing to see the decline in ride comfort from previous models such as the RX series from 1999-2009. We have only driven 3000 miles in 6 months as our Honda truck is much more comfortable. We will be looking for a different car next year.

We purchased our RX450h brand new and have been driving it daily ever since. While it may not be the car for those who prioritize performance, it is a spacious and comfortable cruiser that boasts impressive gasoline mileage in town. On the highway, it is smooth and quiet. The hybrid drive has been working great and we have had no issues with the system. After 70K miles, we have only experienced one significant mechanical problem, which could have been catastrophic. An oil hose burst and the car leaked oil all over our garage and driveway. Fortunately, I discovered it in time before the car was driven a significant distance. The local Lexus dealer replaced it for free. Although this was not an isolated incident with the model, there are quite a few similar cases posted on internet forums. It is a mystery why the Lexus dealer did not recall and replace it earlier. If you own this car or plan to buy one used, make sure your mechanic checks all of the oil hoses! Overall, it is a great (if not exciting) car. We will be passing it down to our teenage daughter soon.

You have made an excellent choice with this car! It has been a pleasure to own and drive, with only routine maintenance needed after 80,000 miles. Despite living in a hilly area, the car has still managed an impressive average of 25.5 mpg. Choosing the hybrid model over the non-hybrid RX 350 has definitely paid off in terms of fuel efficiency. It's a shame that the residual value is less than half of what the car cost, but with proper maintenance, this car can easily last up to 250,000 miles. Overall, I highly recommend this car, although I would also love to see a diesel RX SUV in the future!

  3. Scottie Renner 2024-11-13

I'm currently getting an average of 28mpg with 5,000 miles on the car. During a recent vacation, I drove through the mountains with a loaded car and got about 25mpg, but on normal driving around town, I've been able to get around 30mpg. When I decided to buy this car, I had high expectations, and I'm happy to say that it has exceeded them. The ride quality is exceptional, and the car is very comfortable. It also has enough technical features to keep me entertained on long drives. Although it's not a sports car, the handling is very good for its size, and the engine and CVT transmission are a perfect match. Living in a dark area, I find the adaptive headlights to be extremely helpful and bright at night.

  4. Leif Dickens 2024-10-28

We've had this car since it was brand new and it's been great! It's really comfortable and we've had very few problems with it. The only thing we can say is that it's not the most exciting car out there, but that's not really a big deal. Overall, it's a really nice car. As for our local Lexus dealer, we've had some mixed experiences. While they provided great service for the first 8 years, we've felt like second-class citizens since we haven't bought another car from them. Unfortunately, they even blamed me for a problem they missed. That's why we now take our car to a different service center that isn't affiliated with Lexus.

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying the RX450h! It's great to know that you find it comfortable and fun to drive. While it may take some time to get used to all of its capabilities, I'm happy to hear that basic operation is easy and intuitive. It's also wonderful to hear that you received very good service from the dealer. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!
