2013 Nissan 370z problems
The Nissan 370Z (known as the Fairlady Z Z34 in Japan) is a 2-door, 2-seater sports car (S-segment in Europe) manufactured by Nissan Motor Company. It was announced on October 29, 2006, and was first shown at an event in Los Angeles ahead of the 2008 Greater LA Auto Show, before being officially unveiled at the show itself. The 370Z is the sixth generation of the Nissan Z-car line, succeeding the 350Z. The 370Z marks the last production car with a naturally aspirated and high-rev V6 coupled to a manual transmission. The 2020 model year was the final model year for the 370Z. The line was continued by the Nissan Z (RZ34) on a modified version of the same platform.

Engineering
Almost every piece and component of the 370Z has been redesigned from the previous 350Z. The wheelbase is 4 in (100 mm) shorter at 100.4 in (2,550 mm) and an overall length 2.7 in (69 mm) shorter at 167.1 in (4,240 mm). The overall width has been increased by 1.3 in (33 mm), the rear track by 2.2 in (56 mm), and overall height reduced by 0.3 in (7.6 mm). The smaller exterior dimensions and use of more lightweight materials helped reduce weight.
The 370Z features a front aluminum subframe, aluminum-alloy engine cradle, aluminum door panels, an all-aluminum hood, and an aluminum hatch. Front body torsional rigidity is improved by 10 percent with an extensively revised body structure, which includes a new front suspension cradle to reduce front body lateral bending, new rear structural reinforcements, and an underbody "V-bar" to help reduce rear lateral bending. Rear body torsional rigidity is improved by up to 22 percent and rear body vertical bending rigidity is improved by up to 30 percent. Additional enhancements include the use of a carbon fiber composite radiator housing and strengthening of the rear fender and hatch areas. The new structure weighs slightly less than the 350Z.
The 370Z uses a front double wishbone suspension, with forged aluminum control arms and steering knuckle. The rear multi-link suspension uses a forged aluminum upper control arm, lower arm and radius rod, the toe control rod is steel and wheel carrier assembly is aluminum. The refreshed 2013 model uses new dampers with the Sport package models. The brakes have been changed from the more expensive Brembo racing brakes to Nissan branded brakes which are manufactured by Akebono.
The coefficient of drag is 0.30 and 0.29 with the Sport Package, figures identical to the 350Z.

Common 2013 Nissan 370z problems
The Nissan 370Z, a classic sports car with generations spanning decades, has its fair share of common issues, especially in the 6th generation (2009-2020). This article focuses on the 2013 Nissan 370Z and its most common problems based on complaints from owners.
- Concentric Slave Cylinder (CSC) Failure: CSC failure is a common issue in the 6th generation Nissan 370Z, particularly in manual transmission models.
- Clicking Noise from the Rear Wheel: A clicking sound from the rear wheel when it is turning can be caused by the axle nut and its retainer stretching apart, despite the extra security from the cotter pin.
- Engine Spits and Sputters: Low fuel in the tank can cause the engine to spit and sputter when driving, as the fuel tank may draw in air, leading to fuel starvation.
- Rear Axle Clicking: High-mileage Nissan 370Zs can develop a clicking noise coming from the rear axle, which is usually heard when turning.
- Excessive Oil Consumption: Pre-2013 Nissan 370Zs can develop oil galley gasket problems, leading to excessive oil consumption over time.
- Premature Clutch Master and Slave Cylinders: Nissan 370Zs equipped with manual transmissions may experience premature failure of the clutch master cylinder (CMC) and concentric slave cylinder (CSC).
- Stock Exhaust Failure: Nissan 370Zs have a tendency to gradually rust away, especially in snow-prone states where regular exposure to road salt contributes to metal corrosion.
While these issues may seem daunting, regular maintenance and addressing problems promptly can help ensure the longevity and reliability of the Nissan 370Z.
What are the main problems with a 370Z?
Most are negative; complaining about clutch failures, steering lock, axle bearings and bushings, oil consumption, paint, and on and on. If you are to believe what is being said you would never buy one and get rid of it if you already had one. My wife has a 2011 370z that she uses a daily driver.
Is 2013 370Z reliable?
Very reliable vehicle.
Excellent acceleration, tight steering, and corners well. Extremely reliable mechanically.
Is 370Z high maintenance?
The average total annual cost for repairs and maintenance on a Nissan 370Z is $504, compared to an average of $526 for compact cars and $652 for all vehicle models. The average total annual cost for unscheduled repairs and maintenance across all model years of a vehicle.
What is the bad year for 370Z?
The 2010 model was a bad year for the Nissan 370z. CarComplaints named it the “Worst Model Year” of the 370z with 166 complaints and no recalls (which is surprising). As mentioned, this model's steering wheel lock remains a major issue but seems more pronounced here.

THE CLUTCH PEDAL WOULD NOT RETURN ALL THE WAY BACK UP THUS CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO BE STUCK IN THE GEAR IT WAS IN, AND BE LESS IN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER DOING MORE RESEARCH SINCE, THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE NISSAN 370Z DUE TO THE POOR DESIGN OF USING A PLASTIC CONSTRUCTED SLAVE CYLINDER THAT IS MOUNTED IN THE TRANSMISSION BELL HOUSING. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT NISSAN SHOULD HAVE RECALLED BY THIS POINT!

BUT IT'S BEEN LESS THAN A YEAR, AND I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, AND THE CLUTCH SUDDENLY HAD NO PRESSURE HALFWAY AGAIN. NOW THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER OR CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER. IT HAPPENED SUDDENLY ON THE FREEWAY WITH NO INDICATION OF WARNING. I STILL HAVE STOCK POWER TERRAIN PARTS. I HAVE SEEN MANY PEOPLE ON 370Z FORUM WITH THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-06-17
- VIN: JN1AZ4EH7DM
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: ***NISSAN 2013 370Z (MT) CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER *** PURCHASE BRAND NEW. IN MARCH OF 2013, JUST 2K MILES THE SLAVE CYLINDER FAILED. REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. ON 6/17/2016, I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, MY CLUTCH FAILED DURING TRAFFIC HOURS ON THE 60 EAST FWY. I COULD NOT SHIFT THE GEAR TO GET TO LOWER OR HIGHER GEAR. THANK GOD I WAS ABLE TO GET ON THE SHOULDER LANE TO STOP SAFELY. THIS HAPPENED AT 3,100 MILES. YES, JUST AFTER MY FACTORY WARRANTY HAD JUST EXPIRED. CSC IS NOT COVERED UNDER POWERTRAIN WARRANTY BUT NISSAN HAS AGREED TO FULLY PAY FOR THE SECOND REPLACEMENT. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE AND CAN CAUSE BODILY HARM WHEN DRIVING AND CLUTCH FAILS. ALSO I BELONG TO A NISSAN SOCIAL COMMUNITY FORUMS AND THERE ARE MANY HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. BE SAFE OUT THERE. *TR
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-04-09
- VIN: JN1AZ4EHXDM
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: LAST SATURDAY, TOOK THE COVER OFF AND WAS GOING TO THE CAR WASH TO SHINE HER UP REAL GOOD. ON THE WAY AFTER STOPPING AT A LIGHT I PULLED OFF THEN WENT TO 2ND GEAR, THEN TO THIRD AND THAT WHEN IT HAPPENED. THE CLUTCH WENT TO THE FLOOR AND DID NOT COME BACK UP. I'M GOING DOWN THE STREET NOT KNOWING WHAT TO DO NEXT BECAUSE THERE IS A STOP SIGN BUT I'M AFRAID TO STOP BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN, A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS AT THE STOP SIGN SO I TURNED ON MY EMERGENCY FLASHERS AND CONTINUED THROUGH, I'M SURE THE PEOPLE BEHIND ME THOUGHT I WAS CRAZY AND I'M VERY HAPPY THERE WERE NO POLICE AROUND. I MADE A LEFT ON THE EMPTIEST STREET I COULD FIND AND PULLED OVER AND CALLED MY SON TO PICK ME UP AND HELP ME PUSH THE CAR OUT OF THE STREET. NOW MIND YOU I NEVER RACED OR DROVE THE CAR HARD AT ALL AND WITHIN THE 10 OR SO MONTHS I'VE OWED IT ONLY PUT 5000 MILES ON IT. IT'S HARD FOR ME TO BELIEVE THAT NISSAN WOULD PUT SUCH A DANGEROUS CAR, LET ALONE A SPORTS CAR ON THE ROAD, I JUST KEPT THINKING WHAT IF I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY, AND I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED! I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO NISSAN OF MCKINNEY WERE THEY ADD INSULT TO INJURY TELLING ME MY Z WITH ONLY 18000 MILES ON IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND IT WOULD COST ME OVER $1000 TO REPAIR. OF COURSE I DID SOME RESEARCH ON WWW.THE370Z.COM AND OTHER WEBSITES, FOUND OUT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION WHICH AFTERMARKET PARTS CAN FIX BUT NISSAN REFUSES TO, ARE YOU GUYS WAITING ON SOMEONE TO BE KILLED BEFORE YOU TAKE ACTION, THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE AND CUSTOMERS SHOULD BE MADE AWARE AND CERTAINLY SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY OVER $1000 TO REPAIR IT WITH ONLY 18000 MILES!
STRUCTURE PROBLEM

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-08-19
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER: I WAS STOPPED FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT IN THE CENTER LANE ON A HEAVILY TRAVELED ROAD. WHEN THE SIGNAL CHANGED, I DEPRESSED THE CLUTCH TO PUT MY CAR IN GEAR, I WAS UNABLE TO PUT IN GEAR - THE CLUTCH PETAL STUCK TO THE FLOOR AND WOULD NOT RETURN TO THE RESTING POSITION - FLUID WAS LEAKING ON THE ROAD. UNABLE TO MOVE MY VEHICLE TO A SAFE LOCATION, I TURNED ON EMERGENCY FLASHERS AND CALLED FOR HELP. THE 911 OPERATOR SAID GET OUT OF THE CAR AND STAND ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD THEY DISPATCHED AN OFFICER AND TOW TRUCK. THE OFFICER PUSHED MY CAR TO THE RIGHT LANE, BLOCKED TRAFFIC WITH HIS VEHICLE TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT AND WAITED UNTIL MY CAR WAS ON THE TOW TRUCK.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-04-12
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: HI, I'VE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH MY 2013 370Z CLUTCH, I AM ASSUMING IT IS THE CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER. WHEN THE CAR IS HOT THE CLUTCH PEDAL WILL STICK TO THE FLOOR OR NOT HAVE ANY RETURN PRESSURE WHEN PUSHING THE CLUTCH IN. I FEEL THIS IS GOING TO BECOME AND ISSUE AND COULD BE A SAFETY CONCERN ON A ROAD AT SPEEDS.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-10-22
- VIN: JN1AZ4EH6DM
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: THIS IS MY HUSBANDS CAR SO I DO NOT DRIVE IT REGULARLY AND I DO NOT DRIVE IT LIKE A RACE CAR. THE CAR WAS IN OUR GARAGE ALL DAY UNTIL I LEFT SO NOTHING WAS OVERHEATED. I HAD DRIVEN ABOUT 5 MILES AT LESS THAN 50 MPH ALONG AN ACCESS ROAD, STOPPING FOR 3 RED LIGHTS. I THOUGHT IT WAS CLUTCHING ODDLY, BUT SINCE I HADN'T DRIVEN IT MUCH, I THOUGHT IT WAS ME. AT THE 4TH RED LIGHT THE CLUTCH WENT SOFT WHEN I PRESSED IT AND ONLY CAME BACK UP HALF WAY BUT I WAS ABLE TO GET MOVING, THE CLUTCH PEDAL RISING LESS WITH EACH SHIFT. MY DESTINATION WAS JUST AFTER THE LIGHT AND AS I TURNED LEFT ACROSS THE TRAFFIC I LOST THE CLUTCH COMPLETELY AS I WENT INTO 2ND GEAR. THIS LEFT ME COASTING IN NEUTRAL ACROSS TWO LANES OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND A DIP AND CURVE ENTRANCE THAT REQUIRED A MORE MOMENTUM THAN I HAD. 1ST AND 2ND WOULD NOT ENGAGE AND I WAS ABLE TO GRIND IT INTO 3RD AND CLEAR THE LANES. I COASTED INTO A PARKING SPOT AND THE CLUTCH WAS COMPLETELY DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR AND I COULD SMELL IT BURNING. AFTER MY APPOINTMENT, I USED MY FOOT TO PULL THE CLUTCH BACK UP AND IT ACTUALLY WORKED. I DROVE DIRECTLY TO THE DEALERSHIP, PULLING THE CLUTCH BACK UP EACH TIME AND ODDLY ENOUGH, BY THE TIME I ARRIVED THE CLUTCH WAS FUNCTIONING AGAIN. THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER THEY SAID THERE WAS A BULLETIN ADDRESSING THE 'VERY RARE' ISSUE, SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE BOILING POINT OF THE FACTORY INSTALLED HYDRAULIC FLUID. THEY FLUSHED THE SYSTEM AND PUT IN A DIFFERENT OIL. I HAVE ONLY HAD THE CAR BACK FOR A DAY BUT TO ME THE CLUTCH STILL FEELS A LITTLE SOFT. I AM DOCUMENTING THIS IN CASE IT HAPPENS AGAIN AND BECAUSE THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF THE MANUFACTURER WOULD HAVE VOLUNTARILY REPLACED THE FLUID, IF THAT IS REALLY WHAT CAUSED THIS ISSUE . *TR
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-04-09
- VIN: JN1AZ4EH0DM
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I HAVE A 2013 370Z WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. ON 4-9-2014 I WAS TRAVELING 45 MPH ON EXPRESSWAY. I BEGAN SLOWING FOR LIGHT AND DOWNSHIFTING FROM 6TH GEAR TO 5TH AND 4TH. WHEN I SHIFTED INTO 4TH GEAR THE CLUTCH PEDAL DID NOT RETURN TO IT'S NORMAL POSITION AND STAYED ABOUT 1/2 WAY DOWN TOWARDS THE FLOOR OF THE VEHICLE. I THEN SHIFTED INTO 3RD GEAR AND THE CLUTCH PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR AND REMAINED FULLY DEPRESSED AND DID NOT RETURN TO IT'S UPRIGHT POSITION. I HAD NO CLUTCH FUNCTION AT THIS POINT. I MUSCLED THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL TO AVOID STALLING THE ENGINE AND CAME TO A STOP AT THE RED LIGHT. I WAS UNABLE TO PLACE THE CAR IN GEAR WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN. I GROUND THE GEARS AND GOT THE VEHICLE INTO 2ND GEAR, GOT OFF THE EXPRESSWAY AND INTO A NEARBY PARKING LOT. I CALLED A TOW AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE NEAREST NISSAN DEALERSHIP. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE HYDRAULICALLY ACTUATED CLUTCH FLUID HAD OVERHEATED AND FAILED CAUSING THE HYDRAULIC ACTUATION OF THE CLUTCH TO FAIL. THE DEALERSHIP FLUSHED THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM AND REPLACED THE HYDRAULIC FLUID WITH HIGHER TEMPERATURE FLUID FROM A GTR PER NISSAN SERVICE BULLETIN NTB13-026A. THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO BE OPERATING PROPERLY AT THIS POINT BUT I WAS VERY CONCERNED AND COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN INVOLVED IN A ACCIDENT AS I WAS SITTING AT A GREEN LIGHT ON AN EXPRESSWAY WITH A DISABLED VEHICLE. NISSAN IS OBVIOUSLY AWARE THAT STANDARD DUTY HYDRAULIC FLUID IN 370Z'S CAN OVERHEAT AND FAIL AS NOTED IN THEIR SERVICE BULLETIN. I FEEL THAT HYDRAULICALLY ACTUATED MANUAL TRANSMISSION 370Z'S SHOULD BE FILLED WITH HIGH TEMPERATURE HYDRAULIC FLUID FROM THE FACTORY. *TR

Wow! The first word I said when I pulled into my driveway and got out of my brand new 2012 370z. I've had it for a week now and I'm thoroughly impressed with all aspects except for the road/cabin noise. Maybe some dynamat in the near future? The navigation system is definitely money well spent and the ample power (I have a Hayabusa, I know) is fantastic. The sound system with 8 speakers is excellent. I had my eye on the Camaro SS, which would have been cheaper, but it just can't compare to the 370z (although I still like the Camaro). I'd give it a 9.5 out of 10. Everyone keeps telling me how sexy my 370z is, it reminds them of a Porsche. I really like this car!
-
This is my first Z. It reminds me of an earlier generation Porsche 911. It's a Touring coupe with Sports Package and Nav package. The roadability and handling are tremendous, and the manual 6-speed tranny is wonderful. The power and beautiful dynamics make for a great +++ fun factor. It's even more of an eye-turner than my Porsche Turbo S cab. The only thing I dislike is the exhaust note and the slow initial climb to higher RPM.
-
I was a bit hesitant when my husband was considering this car because of the price. After having this car for a few months, we have no regrets whatsoever! Totally worth the price and it is constantly turning heads. It's actually better on gas than I thought it was going to be and we are very pleased with what a show on TV said about it. It said if the mileage is kept low and it is maintained, it will be worth a lot in the future! Good job on this car Nissan!

I really enjoy driving my 370Z after trading in my Mercedes SLK350. The Z is a true sports car with exciting features and more interior room. I appreciate the improved interior quality, attractive and comfortable seats, and the tilt down dash that allows me to see my speedometer with the steering wheel down. The windows go all the way down and the cup holders are conveniently placed. I am also impressed with the car's power and pick-up. I am still on my first tank of gas, so I am excited to see how it performs in the long run.
-
-Try the sports package first, and then the base. You'll definitely notice the difference. The sports package hugs the road, thanks to its better suspension, sports tires, and rims. Plus, this car is sure to turn heads and get you compliments from the ladies. Just be careful not to attract too much attention from the cops - they might pull you over for no reason! Oh, and if you're concerned about fuel economy, this might not be the car for you. But if you're looking for a fun ride, this is definitely it!

I really like the design of the car, but I'm having trouble understanding why the manual transmission can't be shifted more smoothly. It seems like missing just a couple hundred revs causes a lot of drive line clamors. I traded in my Z4 for this car because I didn't want to pay the $20M premium for the new Z4, but I have to say that the BMW manual was much quieter and more forgiving if rev match wasn't perfect. I've been driving manuals for 55 years, and I've never had one that was so difficult to master.

Although I appreciate the features of this car, I found the sport seats to be uncomfortable for my 6'3
