2022 Lexus Gx460 problems

The Lexus GX (Japanese: レクサス・GX, Hepburn: Rekusasu GX) is a mid/full-size luxury SUV sold in North American and Eurasian markets by Lexus, a luxury division of Toyota. The GX is based on the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, from which it derives its off-road capability. Lexus introduced the first generation, known as the GX 470 in 2002, and subsequently became the third SUV to enter the Lexus lineup. A full-time four-wheel drive system is standard with low-range gearing. The 4.7-liter V8 engine in the GX 470 was the same as used on the larger LX 470. The firm next introduced the second-generation model in 2009, badged GX 460 to reflect the switch to a 4.6-liter V8 engine. Lexus later released a lower displacement GX 400 in 2012 for the Chinese market, with a 4.0-liter V6 engine. The third-generation model introduced in 2023 uses the GX 550 moniker with a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 engine and GX 550h with a turbocharged hybrid electric 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine.
As of 2024, the GX is positioned between the larger LX or TX and the smaller RX. Though it is thought the GX has always been larger than the RX, from 2015 to 2022, the RX is slightly longer and slightly wider than the GX and therefore the GX was considered smaller. All GX production has occurred at the Tahara plant in Japan, alongside the Land Cruiser Prado and the export-minded Toyota 4Runner.
Some countries classify the GX as a full-size vehicle (e.g., Australia), while some classify it as a mid-size vehicle (e.g., US), depending on local regulations.

Common 2022 Lexus Gx460 problems
The Lexus GX 460, a luxury SUV, has been praised for its sturdiness, dynamic performance, and high-quality interior. However, some model years have been associated with specific problems that owners have reported. Here are some of the common issues with the Lexus GX 460, based on complaints from owners:
- Fuel Pump Faults: The low-pressure fuel pump in some GX 460 models may have faults, leading to engine combustion problems such as misfires, engine stalling, or sluggish acceleration.
- Airbag Issues: Certain GX 460 model years have experienced airbag problems, including the SRS light illuminating without reason and airbag inflator bag malfunctions. In the worst-case scenario, the latter can cause safety threats due to small metal fragments flying around the car.
- Stability Control System Problems: The stability control system in some GX 460 models can cause understeer on slippery roads, affecting the vehicle's steering precision. This issue can be dangerous, as the stability control system is an important safety feature that should not malfunction.
- Electric Problems: Some GX 460 models have experienced bothersome electric system issues, including inoperable remote starting systems and door-related problems. These issues can affect the convenience and functionality of the vehicle.
- Peeling Paint: Some owners have reported peeling paint on their GX 460s, which can be an aesthetic concern.
- Brake Problems: Brake issues have also been reported by some GX 460 owners, although the specific nature of these problems is not detailed in the search results.
- Remote Starter Not Working: In some cases, the remote starter in the GX 460 may not function properly, which can be inconvenient for drivers.
- Side Mirror Moving: The side mirrors on some GX 460s may not stay in place, requiring drivers to manually adjust them while driving, which can be frustrating and potentially dangerous.
It is important to note that these issues may not affect all vehicles of the mentioned model years, and some problems have been addressed through recalls or updates. Potential buyers should research specific model years and vehicles to ensure they are aware of any known issues before making a purchase.

We recently purchased our first Lexus and after considering the RX-350, we ultimately chose the GX460. This vehicle offers more headroom and is heavier overall. Our GX460, which boasts the Premium Plus package and Sport Appearance Group in black onyx/ecru, looks fantastic. The Mark Levinson sound system is exceptional and the vehicle is stylish while also being capable of handling a variety of terrains. While it may not have all the latest tech features, we are very satisfied with the layout and ease of use of its controls. Additionally, the suite of safety features is very good. Although gas mileage is not the best, we are confident in the vehicle's safety, reliability, and resale value. While it may not be the perfect SUV for everyone, it is definitely a great choice for our needs.

Some people may say that it's dated, but for me, it's perfect. With V8 power, tried and true full-time 4WD, and a 6500-pound towing capacity, this is a quality vehicle that will give you many years of service. I have owned it for a while now, and it has been a pleasure with no problems whatsoever. The build quality, paint, and interior are all great. The GX is a great vehicle, and if you're looking at a used one, I recommend buying a 2019 or newer, which have 4G. Even though the phone companies recently phased out 3G and it affected some of my telematics, which is disappointing, the GX still runs and drives as new, with not a squeak or rattle. I just got back from an extended trip to several states, and for a 2016 with 81,000 miles, it's still as tight and rattle-free as ever. These are truly great vehicles!

The 2022 GX is rock solid. It has everything you need and nothing you don’t. No bling, just bulletproof reliability. You can always count on Japanese quality over German-built eye candy. This is my third Lexus and it will not be my last. I have owned my GX for 9 months, and I like it more now than when I brought it home.

I recently purchased my fourth Lexus GX 460 and have been extremely satisfied with their performance. These vehicles have proven to be incredibly reliable, with all of them surpassing 125,000 miles without any major issues. In fact, I have found that the cost of maintenance for my Lexus is significantly lower than other luxury brands such as Cadillac, Mercedes, and Jaguar. I highly recommend Lexus vehicles and specifically, the exceptional service provided by Sterling McCall dealership. They have been the best dealership I have ever dealt with and I wouldn't trust anyone else to service my vehicle. Thank you, Lexus and Sterling McCall, for providing such a wonderful experience.

It's not necessarily ahead of other vehicles in its type and class, but it's definitely a great option. I really appreciate its old-school essence. I'm extremely happy with my 2022 GX. The GX has been a reliable choice for over 10 years, which is why I decided to make the purchase.

This vehicle is advertised as a 6-passenger car, but unfortunately, the third-row seating is not very comfortable and is not accessible to anyone larger than a toddler. Additionally, it is difficult to fit a child car seat in the third row. With the third-row seats up, there is practically no cargo space, and there is very little room for even a purse in the second or third row. However, my husband finds it comfortable to ride in by himself. On the other hand, I am grateful to have my comfortable Honda Odyssey minivan!

The 2021 GX 460 car has been pulling to the right after 300 miles of driving. Despite taking it to Lexus West Kendall Miami Florida, the issue has not been resolved. Videos were taken with the tech who acknowledged the issue, but it only seems to happen when driving at higher speeds or pressing on the gas. As someone who has driven BMW, Chevy, Range Rover, and even the 4Runner, I have never experienced such a significant issue with an SUV pulling. Despite having taken the car in seven times, the issue still persists. The balancing has been checked and is within specs, but I remain concerned about the safety of the vehicle. As recommended by Lexus HQ, I will be taking it to a different dealership.

This car may not be the best option if you plan on driving with more than two people. The third row of seats may not be comfortable for anyone over the age of 2, and it can be difficult to move into that row. The second row of seats is tolerable, but it may be challenging to keep drinks from spilling. Overall, this SUV may not be the most well-designed option.

I noticed that the passenger side mirror auto-dimming feature has been removed from the 2021 GX 460, which was previously available since 2010. It's disappointing to see this feature go, especially since my Father's 2006 ES 330 and my wife's 2015 RX 350 both have dual auto-dimming mirrors. As a loyal customer, I feel that Lexus could have done better in this regard. I have noticed that some of the features that were standard on previous models are now only available on the top of the line Luxury model, which is quite expensive. I hope that Lexus will take customer feedback into consideration and make changes accordingly. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I have been a loyal Lexus customer since 1993 and was excited to upgrade to a new GX460 a couple of years ago. However, I was disappointed with the performance of the vehicle. The transmission felt inadequate and the seats were uncomfortable. Additionally, I found the electronic controls confusing. Despite these issues, I decided to switch to a Ram 1500, which I found to be a better fit for me in terms of seat comfort, ride, handling, gas mileage, power, transmission, electronics, and features. While I appreciate the quality of the audio system when connected to an external source, I found the internal am and fm, and satellite to be muffled on both talk and music. Despite my concerns, I am grateful for the opportunity to try out a different vehicle with a more listenable audio system.
