Though it is thought the GX has always been larger than the RX, from 2015 to 2022, the RX is slightly longer and slightly wider than the GX and therefore the GX was considered smaller. All GX production has occurred at the Tahara plant in Japan, alongside the Land Cruiser Prado and the export-minded Toyota 4Runner.

- Summary: The driver, passenger, and rear tailgate electronic locks have all failed in the last 6 months on the car. I'm constantly having to remind my kids and wife to lock the doors before they start driving. I'm particularly concerned about the rear cargo door. The lock is failed in the "locked" position and there is not a manual lever to pull from the interior or exterior to unlock and open the door. I no longer allow my kids to ride in the 3rd row seat out of fear that there will be an incident where I need to get them out of the Cargo door and it won't be available. The internet is full of reviews where this seems to be a widespread problem, but Lexus has not acknowledged and no formal recall has been issued. I reached out to Lexus this month to see if they would work with me on a solution, but was told my car is out of warranty. Any help would be appreciated.

LEXUS OFFERED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE PICKED UP AND CURRIED TO THE DEALERSHIP AT NO COST TO ME. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THIS VEHICLE IS MY MAIN MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION TO WORK. WHEN I EXPLAINED THIS TO LEXUS ASSOCIATE IT LEXUS REPLIED THAT I COULD RENT A CAR AND LEXUS WOULD RE-EMBERSE ME FOR THE COST. WHICH IS GREAT IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY TO LEASE A CAR UPFRONT FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. FOR EXAMPLE - EDR SHOWS ACCELERATOR WAS DEPRESSED 100% FOR 3.5 SECONDS WITH NO BRAKE PRESSURE - YET CAR DID NOT SPEED UP, AND ACTUALLY SLOWED SLIGHTLY TO ABOUT 20 MPH; 2.5 SEC. INTO ACCELERATION EVENT CAR MYSTERIOUSLY SHIFTED INTO PARK. NEED EXPLANATION HOW THAT HAPPENED, OR IF EVEN POSSIBLE. ZERO CHANCE MY WIFE SHIFTED IT.. THE LAST SECOND OF THE RECORDED EVENT BOTH BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR WERE DEPRESSED 100% - WIFE SAYS NO WAY SHE USED TWO FEET. RPM WENT FROM 3,600 TO 5,900 AND CAR KEPT MOVING FORWARD WITH 100% BRAKE PRESSURE REPORT - REPORT ENDS AT CAR STILL GOING 8.7 MPH. TOYOTA SAYS CAR WAS "TEST DRIVEN" AND NO DEFECTS FOUND - YET THE CAR HAS BEEN UNDRIVEABLE SINCE THE ACCIDENT (I.E.- MISSING A TIRE). - Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2010-2016 4Runner, 2003-2006 Tundra, 2003-2013 Corolla, 2009-2010 Corolla Matrix, 2004-2005 RAV4, 2002-2007 Sequoia, 2011-2013 Sienna, 2008-2012 Scion xB, 2008-2009 Lexus IS-F, 2007-2012 Yaris and Lexus ES350, 2010-2017 Lexus GX460, 2002-2010 Lexus SC430, 2006-2012 Lexus IS250 and IS350 and 2010-2015 Lexus IS250C and IS350C vehicles. These vehicles had their driver or passenger frontal air bag inflators previously replaced under a prior recall using inflators of the same design. The inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners. Depending on the vehicle model, dealers will replace the front driver inflator, front passenger airbag inflator, the airbag assembly, or the front passenger airbag sub-assembly and inflator. The GX is an amazing bargain! It's incredibly comfortable to drive and handles the road better than any other SUV I've driven. Not only is it quiet and comfortable, but it's also powerful and agile. You won't find a better deal out there! Plus, the car is incredibly safe to drive. The cross traffic warning and large rear view camera come in handy when parking, backing up, and maneuvering in close spaces. I've owned two GXs now and have yet to experience any quality issues or need any repairs. It's also great at handling poor road conditions!

I love the buy and my only knock is that you have to get the lux package for the optional rear entertainment package.

This is the SUV, not a crossover or anything like the BMW X5 or Acura MDX. It drives like a true SUV should. I have less than 1000 miles on it. I consider it a full-size and luxury type of the Toyota FJ Cruiser, which is the go-everywhere kind of vehicle. I am very happy with it.

I really appreciate this car! Despite the complaints listed in the Edmunds rating, I haven't found them to be true. I would definitely consider buying another one in the future.

This platform may be considered outdated, but it has proven to be reliable and boasts a powerful V8 engine. My Luxury trim comes with a great Mark Levinson sound system, and I find the interior materials and appearance to be satisfactory. While the third row may be tight, smaller adults can still fit back there if they are flexible enough to make the crawl. However, if the third row is up, the cargo area is limited. The ride quality, unfortunately, is not up to par with other Lexus models and can be quite rough and bouncy, even with the rear air suspension and sophisticated electronic shocks. This may not be the best option for those seeking a comfortable suburban ride, but it could be a good fit for those living in more rugged environments. Overall, the GX has its pros and cons, but it's worth considering for its reliability and powerful engine.

I purchased this car after driving 4Runners for 25 years, expecting a more luxurious version of my previous vehicles. However, I have found several features that do not meet my expectations, such as the requirement for hi-test gas, poor gas mileage, and poor interior design with awkwardly positioned cup holders and less accessible places for change. Additionally, the side-opening back door is awkward and does not provide protection from rain, making it difficult to load large packages. Despite these issues, I remain confident in my decision to purchase this car and will continue to explore ways to improve my driving experience.

I use my 2016 Lexus GX 460 every day, but unfortunately, I have been experiencing some issues with it. Although the ride is smooth, I have found the GPS to be inaccurate at times. It often tells me that I have arrived when I am still in the vicinity, which can be frustrating. Additionally, it can be difficult to adjust the air conditioning while driving, as it requires multiple screen taps. I have also had trouble with the Apps, such as Pandora, which often give me a 'tether error'. Overall, I have found the electronics to be more complicated than they need to be. However, I am still grateful for the smooth ride.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my 2nd GX 460. I absolutely love how it drives and handles! When my 2012 came off lease, I decided to try out another brand because I thought Lexus wasn't keeping up with the latest technology, such as remote start, adaptable cruise control, and integration with smartphones. However, after my wife got her 5th RX, I decided to check out the advances in the 2017 GX technology and it seemed like they had done a great job catching up. So, I decided to go for it and purchased a 2017 in Dec 2016. Everything was great until March, when I started having some trouble with Enform remote. I've been in touch with Lexus Technology Support quite a bit, and while it's been frustrating, I know they're doing their best to help me out. Even the local dealer tech guy has been trying to assist me. I'm confident that we'll get this resolved soon! This SUV is built like a tank with reliability, durability and longevity second to none. The interior is nicely done and of course its off road prowess is also second to none. The ride is also surprisingly comfortable and absorbent for a true body-on-frame SUV designed to tackle some really tough terrain. However, it is important to note that the GX falls short of being a true luxury vehicle. While it does have leather and fancy gadgets, there is more to luxury than that. Unfortunately, the powertrain is not up to par with the rest of the vehicle. The engine is quite noisy and can be tiring on long drives. While some may find it quiet, it is definitely not the smoothest V8 out there. Despite its reliability, the engine noise was a deal breaker for me. Overall, I would not recommend this vehicle as a luxury option, but it could be a good choice for those looking for a reliable SUV without all the bells and whistles.
