Common 2018 Dodge Charger problems
The 2018 Dodge Charger is a popular vehicle with a few common problems that owners have reported. One of the most widespread issues is the door panel pulling away from the door, which occurs around 55,000 miles. This problem is caused by clips breaking as the vehicle ages, and it can be fixed by replacing the clips, which costs under $20.
Another common problem is burnt-out headlights, which have been reported within the first 20,000 miles. Replacing the headlight bulbs resolves this issue, with the cost being around $65 per light. There are also aftermarket lights available that last longer and cost around $90 per bulb.
Some owners have also reported slow gear changes, which are usually caused by an issue in the transmission control module software. Updating the software typically fixes this problem, with the cost being around $150 depending on local labor rates.
The 2018 Dodge Charger has five recalls, with the most serious one being for the front driveshaft, which may separate from the vehicle. Dodge will replace the driveshaft on affected models for free. Other recalls cover the cruise control, voltage regulator, and transmission park rods, which Dodge will also fix for free.
In addition to these common problems, some owners have reported issues with the fuel pump relay overheating, door panels coming apart, radio screens delaminating, and radio and Bluetooth connectivity issues. These problems can be frustrating, but there are often solutions or fixes available.
Overall, the 2018 Dodge Charger is a reliable vehicle, but like any car, it can have issues. Regular maintenance and prompt repairs can help ensure that the Charger lasts as long as possible and provides reliable transportation for its owners.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-19
- VIN: 2C3CDXBG0JH
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,ENGINE
- Summary: My safety & the safety of others was at great risk while driving my 2018 dodge charger sxt. While driving my dashboard lights went completely dark and the steering wheel locked. I was unable to move out of lanes threatening my life and the life of others around me. Independent mechanic put scanner in my car days later and code that appeared was “U0100 Lost Communication With ECM/PCM” I looked up my vin # on mopar.com and noticed my vehicle did have a “Important Safety Recall: Reprogram Powertrain Control Modulel”
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-17
- VIN: 2C3CDXHG2JH
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: I experienced an issue with the trunk lights on my 2018 Dodge Charger SXT Plus, which would not illuminate when the trunk was open. Additionally, the dashboard display failed to indicate that the trunk was open. This posed a significant safety concern, as the car allowed me to drive without alerting me that the trunk was open. Normally, when the trunk is ajar, the vehicle displays a notification and prevents the car from being driven without addressing the open trunk. However, with the broken latch, no such alert occurred, and the car could be driven with the trunk accidentally left open. Furthermore, the remote start feature, which typically only works when all doors (including the trunk) are closed, was compromised. The car could be remotely started via the keyfob regardless of whether the trunk was open or closed. This is a serious safety concern, as the vehicle could be driven or left running with the trunk open without the driver’s knowledge. This repair cost $301 to fix. Repair Details: Date of Repair: January 17, 2023 Description of repair from dealership: Trunk lights and dashboard indicator were non-functional, and no alert was provided when the trunk was left open. The latch was internally shorted, causing the malfunction. After the latch was replaced, the lights and notifications worked correctly, and the vehicle's safety functions returned to normal.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-03-22
- VIN: 2C3CDXHG2JH
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: The Uconnect screen in my 2018 Dodge Charger SXT Plus began to delaminate, leading to unresponsiveness and phantom touches on the screen. This created a distraction while driving and impacted the use of essential vehicle controls, such as navigation, climate settings, and the backup camera was completely non-functioning. At the dealer I was initially quoted a price over $2,000 and I know from researching the internet many many many others have had this issue. I contacted both Chrysler and a local dealership. The dealership at my 2nd visit replaced the screen for free under a goodwill repair, and Chrysler also contacted me later promised to get the issue resolved if the dealership could not help me. I am reporting this issue because it is a significant defect that could affect the safety and functionality of the vehicle.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-18
- VIN: 2C3CDXHG3JH
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: uConnect system (stereo/radio) is ghost touching and is impairing my driving as it’ll automatically blast my A/C or heat , or worse calls people in my contacts list who I wouldn’t call.. causing me to worry more about my stereo/phone more than driving. It turns my heat up on high as well as my heated seat in the 100 degree weather. Changes my radio stations at a rapid rate and removes my backup camera and other features while I am driving.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-04
- VIN: 2C3CDXHGXJH

The dealer was contacted about the failure and acknowledged that the door panel failure was a known issue; however, the repair was not covered under warranty. The contact was provided an estimate for the replacement of each door panel. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 38,500.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,LANE DEPARTURE,BACK OVER PREVENTION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-13
- VIN: 2C3CDXHG6JH
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,LANE DEPARTURE,BACK OVER PREVENTION
- Summary: The Uconnect system in my vehicle has been delaminating and has been causing several issues in my vehicle where the Blindspot detectors are not working properly and the back up camera is not working properly to notify me and alert me with whistles and chimes if a vehicle is driving behind me while I’m backing up or if a pedestrian is on my Blindspot crossing near my car. The Uconnect system in my vehicle is also causing issues where it is ghost touching and glitching my screen and clicking buttons I’m not clicking. Example trying to change the clock when I’m not clicking anything and when navigation is in, use the system clicks out of maps and starts clicking FM radio. It starts to change stations and put people on hold when I’m on voice connect over the vehicle. It will put someone on mute by itself mostly the fact that the camera is not functioning due to the Uconnect being connected with the vehicle and causing it to malfunction. I’m worried it will start to click on other settings in the vehicle. There are many reports with Dodge Jeep, Chrysler, and ram on all forums about this issue. I’ve notified the Dodge dealership and Uconnect and all the want to do is have me pay out of pocket for a new system that is $2000 not including labor . The uconnect system should be recalled from all vehicles from 2018-2023 .
STEERING,SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-08

AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-22
- VIN: 2C3CDXCTXJH
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: Air bag service light came on without any incident or accident being involved.
EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-30
- VIN: 2C3CDXJG7JH
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: Head lights become inoperable. Dealer says its a common problem. $1,500 fix. Well known power issue. Heavily discuss on the internet. Temp fix is to replace fuses that ARE NOT BLOWN. They are melting in place causing non contact. I have never seen a fuse melt and not blow. Potential dangerous situation especially if you have the owners replacing with a higher rated fuse then what is called for. The manufacturer has 20 amp mini fuses in position 15 & 16 to protect the two circuits. One for each headlamp.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-02
- VIN: 2C3CDXCT4JH
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: My screen is delaminating and posing a risk for backing up and using the rear view camera. I am unable to use navigation which causes me to make wrong turns and struggle to get where I’m going as I have to hold my phone for navigation. This is very stressful as the screen touches things by itself. It makes calls during my drive so I struggle to end them before going through.
EXTERIOR LIGHTING,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-04
- VIN: 2C3CDXBG6JH
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING,ENGINE
- Summary: Engine: Timing chain, valve rocker arms and valve lifters. All in sequence once the rocker arms went out with the lifters which is a common problem with dodge 3.6L PenStar engine it made my timing chain go off timing causing my engine to shut off while driving. Lighting: When vehicle was purchased i noticed condensation in both head lights got 1 replaced per warranty, they would not do both at same time and within 1 month moisture was in replaced headlight again. Dodge would not replace headlights even though the malfunction was not due to any wear and tear of mine. This is extremely unsafe for drivers if both headlights go out due to extreme amounts of condensation/moisture.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-09
- VIN: 2C3CDXJG7JH
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Nothing on the computer screen works or if it works....there's no controlling it. It blows out cold air and then blows out hot air and it changes the radio stations on it's own. There is no controlling the radio or the a/c and heat. I really scared that this is just the tip of the iceberg. I have only had this vehicle about a year and I haven't been able to drive it hardly at all. Thankfully I have a Hyundai Genesis Coupe that I can depend on but it only goes in the summer time because it is a rear wheel drive car. My 2018 Dodge Charger GT AWD is at the garage at 1251 Good Hope Pike Clarksburg, WV 26301 I took the above car to them on [XXX] and it's still at their garage. Nice people that work there but I would like to have my AWD car before the snow starts flying. Country Club Chrysler Howard Moore is the Service Manager. STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-26
- VIN: 2C3CDXBG4JH
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: The electric steering rack failed. I was turning into a parking lot and suddenly there was no power steering. Luckily I had both hands on the wheel and was able to avoid an accident. A dash light came on at that time related to steering. My mechanic was able to pull the code. I was able to drive home. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? I have the EPS unit right now - but it is a Core and I have 14 days to return. Please let me know ASAP if you want me to keep it. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Sudden loss of power steering without advanced notice. Old cars with power steering often make a "noise" prior to failure. Electric Power Steering like on my car doesn't provide advanced notice of issues. Also, failures of power steering at 57K miles are rare. But Dodge (Chrysler) have had prior NHTSA issues and recalls prior with EPS. Also, it seems like this may be a common issue - as there are almost no new parts available, no reman/aftermarket parts, and very difficult to find used. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No - out of warranty Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Nothing prior - but warning light after EPS failure.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-04-20
- VIN: 2C3CDXJG9JH
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: The radio screen is delaminating (Common problem with many Dodge owners). The screen can no longer be controlled to use hands free phone which is critical for my job and soon to be a new law in Michigan. Radio "ghost dials" different stations. Cannot control the climate control etc. Car is out of warranty, but I believe should be repaired at no cost because I have read many complaints about the same problem. I also saw websites like Top Class Actions and ClassAction.org that were inquiring information about similar issues on several Chrysler products from I believe 2017 - 2020? This does become a safety issue and wanted you to be aware of this. Our problem started in early 2022 and has continued to get worse.
AIR BAGS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-07-10
- VIN: 2C3CDXBG0JH
- Components: AIR BAGS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Issues with the door panel coming loose where my air bag is. Both of my front door panels are coming loose and this is a safety concern I have.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-02-01
- VIN: 2C3CDXHG4JH
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: The control touch screen has delaminated. The radio and the vehicle operation functions will not work most of the time. The screen is also apparently sensing input and randomly initiates functions so it beeps, changes stations, adjusts heating/cooling, etc. This is very distracting and I'm concerned that at some point all of these functions will become inaccessible. The car has 5,000 miles, is barely over 3 years old and neither the dealership nor Chrysler will take responsibility. I see this issue is very common. The cost of the radio is over $2,000 and Chrysler will not confirm if the replacement is the same version that came with the car - if so, should I expect to pay another $2,000 in 3 years?!?
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,BACK OVER PREVENTION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-05-01
- VIN: 2C3CDXCT9JH
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,BACK OVER PREVENTION
- Summary: The screen cover separates from the touch screen on the radio. This makes the radio not function but more importantly other vehicle operational features are inaccessible. Apparently the screen feels random touches so even when I power it down it turns itself back on constantly beeping changinging stations, adjusting the heating/cooling controls, the clock etc. This is very distracting to a driver and I did nothing unusual to this device. I contacted the dealership and just the screen alone is over $1000. Before I pay this I wonder if anyone else has had similar issues or if its been previously addressed.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-18
- VIN: 2C3CDXBG3JH
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: The contact owns a 2018 Dodge Charger. The contact stated she notice that the interior driver's side door panel vinyl and the window strip was warped and was separating from the door frame. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall and also that the warranty would not cover the repair. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 27,500.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-08-29
- VIN: 2c3cdxjg1jh
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Experiencing delamination of UConnect touchscreen on my 18 Dodge Charger. This is causing a bubble to form under the screen. This causes “ ghost touches” to the screen. This causes quite a bit of distraction while driving as the the system will register touches on its own and go into the various controls that are controlled through the touch screen such and radio, hands free calling, navigation and the various performance “tunes”, traction controls and other performance monitors that are controlled through the touch screen. Through my research I see that this is a common issue that affects Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler vehicles. Dodge has advised me that they will not repair this issue outside of the 3 year warranty. Another issue I have found in my research is that as the gel that is between the screen and monitor delaminates it’s oozes out the bottom of the screen potentially affecting or damaging other electronic components below it.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-07-21
- VIN: 2C3CDXGJ5JH
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Hello, I am not sure if this is the correct place to report the issues that are plaguing 2014 and up Dodge Charger and challenger owners. The door panels and center counsel on our cars are coming apart it is a manufacturing defect that exposes the electronic systems on our doors including the locking mechanisms and window regulators to moisture and heat. This is the second time this has occurred the first time my car was under warranty now it is not and Dodge does not want to repair the panels they said because there is not a recall on it they do not have to even though it is a widespread issue. Thank you for your time. Thank you,
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-08-18
- VIN: 2c3cdxct9jh
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I have a Dodge 2018 Charger, recently I am seeing the Uconnect touchsceen began delaminating and the buttons are being ghost pushed randomly, Sometime the clock setting pops up and suddenly the volume goes to 100% and sometimes it randomly does SOS dial or dial's someone else, this is a safety hazard on driver's attention as when you are driving down a freeway it freaks you out if the volume suddenly rises to 100% for the music or it randomly dials something when you are on a emergency call maybe and wont let you talk while on 911 call, Clearly this issue is seen on all models after 2017 (Details can be found on the internet). A lot of accident's can happen because of this as the driver is taken in awe by suden changes in the cabin.

I absolutely love this car! It's incredibly fun and comfortable, and by far the best car I've ever driven or ridden in. It's a black CPO 2017 SXT V6 AWD that I've had for over 2 years now, and it's been incredibly reliable with no major issues. It performs well in all weather conditions, including snow, and it's built like a tank. I get compliments on it all the time, and people love riding in it. Besides its obvious good looks, the acceleration is fast, even though it's only the V6. The automatic shifting is usually good enough, but when you use the manual shift mode to shift faster, it's even faster and a very cool feature. If you're not familiar with this (I wasn't), you move the stick over to the left and then you're in manual mode, where you can push the stick up or down to manually shift gears. It's sort of an easier version of stick shift, which comes in really handy when more control or speed is needed, or you just want to make it more interesting. And it automatically downshifts when you slow down, so you never stall like with a stick shift. The handling is also amazing, it handles curves beautifully even when going fast, and the ride is smooth. It's a real pleasure to drive. The steering wheel feels great to grip, and the gas and brake pedals are finely tuned, giving you excellent control. The steering wheel has a nice bulge on either side, which makes it really nice to grip. The wheels are huge, which really adds to the cool look of the car and they dwarf other car wheels. The car is huge, even bigger than a Camry, and has a very roomy interior with a huge trunk and plenty of cargo space. But what struck me the most after I bought the car was the interior design. I've never seen anything like it. The car looked cool on the outside, but it's even cooler on the inside. There are nice textures and smooth lines everywhere, built with quality materials, and nothing feels cheap. Overall, the car feels very solid, well-built, and high-quality.I really appreciate the attention to detail in this car. The all black cloth interior is sleek and stylish, and the dashboard is streamlined and easy to navigate. The designers have added some great little touches, like the sunglasses case that pops down from the ceiling and the cover that slides over the cupholder. The rearview mirror that dims itself at night and the door light that illuminates the ground when you step out are also really useful features. The hexagonal honeycomb design on parts of the dashboard is a cool and subtle touch. The car is full of nice features and little touches that make driving it a real pleasure. The all wheel drive is great in the snow, and the fog lights are a fantastic addition. The Alpine speakers are amazing, and as a musician and bass fanatic, I can fully appreciate the premium sound. The seats are also super comfortable, and the power adjustable driver's seat with lumbar support is perfect for long commutes and road trips. Overall, this car is a real cut above the rest and I highly recommend it.I am officially a Dodge fan. It surprises me that more people don't share my enthusiasm for Dodge. Perhaps it's because they haven't had the chance to drive or ride in one, just like I hadn't before. While many people seem to be interested in Hondas and Toyotas, which are good cars, the Dodge is a whole different animal. The only downside I can think of is that this model doesn't come with a backup camera, and the car's size can make it difficult to fit into tight parking spaces. However, some Chargers do have a backup camera, and I would highly recommend getting one if you can. The gas mileage is pretty good, with an average of 30mpg on the highway and 20mpg in the city. Another cool thing about the car is that you can program different settings, such as whether you want the car to beep when you lock or unlock it, adjust the power steering, or control how bright the display is. You can customize the settings to your liking, and the touchscreen controls are simple and easy to use. There are also real knobs and buttons for your basic functions, which I appreciate. Overall, it's a very cool car inside and out, very fun, comfortable, and user-friendly, as well as customizable and powerful yet practical at the same time.

Your car sounds amazing! I'm glad to hear that you haven't had any major issues with it. It's great that the recall was handled quickly and that you love the look of the car. The front seats sound very comfortable and flexible, and it's reassuring to know that you feel safe while driving it. The back seats also seem spacious and comfortable, and the large trunk is a plus. It's good to hear that you've been able to get decent gas mileage, and that the car has held up well over the years. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

Hi there! I just wanted to clarify that I have an R/T (5.7L), not a Scat Pack. I'm a dad in my 40s with teenage kids and I recently decided to switch from driving a truck to a big sedan. I had been eyeing the Charger for a while because everything else in its class seemed a bit boring. I had never owned a Dodge before, but I was really drawn to the new Charger's stylish design and the fact that it had a V8 engine. A few months ago, I got to test drive a 2017 Charger and I was immediately hooked. I ended up renting a 2017 AWD Charger with the 3.6L VVT engine for a few weeks and loved it. The acceleration was great, handling was precise, and braking was awesome. The cabin space was generous and the seats were comfortable. The UConnect system was also really intuitive and comprehensive. After returning my rental, I went on the hunt for a 2017 R/T in Maximum Steel Metallic with the Blacktop package. I found one a couple of weeks later and have owned it for a few weeks now. The 5.7L Hemi engine is a huge upgrade from the 3.6L VVT and the active exhaust on the R/T sounds amazing. The 8-speed transmission is also much smoother and quicker. I also really appreciate the Android Auto feature baked into the UConnect system. I haven't tried the Apple version yet, but I'm sure it's just as good!I really enjoy my car, even though it has very few options. The R/T package and Blacktop option are perfect for me and it can be a docile 4 cylinder when commuting to work, or I can push the Sport button and let it rumble. However, there are a few things that my Avalanche does that the Charger does not. For example, the Charger doesn't have the ability to program the passenger seat heater to come on with a remote start. Additionally, the Charger does not dip the right-side mirror when backing, which is a nice feature that other cars have. My only other complaint is that the factory Firestone Firehawk GT tires really suck in cold weather. They're marketed as an all season tire but they are totally ineffective in the cold and snow. I've owned a lot of V8, RWD cars over the years and have driven them in the Winter without issue. This Charger is completely helpless in inclement weather and I blame the tires. I'll be investing in dedicated Winter tires next season.

I've owned and driven this car for 18 months. As a car enthusiast, I've owned 18 cars in the past 12 years and I also enjoy driving on the track. I must say, I absolutely love this car! While some may argue that it's primarily a straight line car, I still find it to be pretty damn good. In fact, when driving on a steep canyon road or at the track, I believe it handles better than other big rear wheel drive sports sedans. Compared to the CTS-V, there was less body roll. I've also had the pleasure of driving the MB E63 AMG, which is one of my all-time favorite cars, but there's no comparison to the deep down ethereal quality of the Hellcat that evokes so much emotion as you slam the gas pedal. You just have to learn how to drive the beast, and once you do, you'll always want a Hellcat. Although I sold the Hellcat this year to get a new C8, it wasn't because there was anything wrong with the Hellcat. In comparison, the Hellcat is pure power, gut-wrenching adrenaline-pumping power. I absolutely loved this car, and if I could have both, I definitely would!

I've been driving Dodge Chargers for 10 years now and I wouldn't choose any other car. They're sporty, durable, and reliable. If you take care of them, they'll take you wherever you want to go!

I really like my car, but unfortunately, I've had a few issues with it. The passenger door panel lifted by the window less than a year after I got the car, but thankfully, it was covered by the warranty. I've also had to recalibrate the sunroof a few times because it doesn't always close with the auto button. Now that my warranty has expired, I've noticed that the center console is lifting like the door panel did. Additionally, my uconnect 8.5 touch screen has started bubbling, even though it has never been wet or damaged, and it now changes settings and stations on its own. If I had known that I would experience so many issues with this car within just three years of owning it, I might not have bought it. However, I must admit that it looks great and drives really well!

My car developed a problem just 100 miles and two days after I bought it. Unfortunately, the dealer - who represents Chrysler - has had to replace several parts, including a sensor, two oil pumps, a cam chain tensioner, a PCM, a radiator, and an engine wiring harness, but the issue still persists. It's been over a month now and my car is still at the dealer. Although Chrysler has asked me to continue waiting, I'm disappointed with the customer service I've received so far.

I really enjoy my car, but unfortunately, I've had a few issues with it in the past year. Initially, I had some trouble with the sunroof, but I was able to get it recalibrated at the dealership. Additionally, I've had some problems with the entertainment system, particularly with Apple Play not working properly. A few months ago, the water pump went out and caused some damage, which took a few days to repair at the dealership. Currently, I'm experiencing some service Schechter warnings and some hesitation with the throttle, but I'm confident that it will be resolved soon. Despite these issues, I still love my car and it has won 3 car show trophies. It's a comfortable ride, although I do think that the material quality could be better for the price. There are some minor issues, such as a plastic interior piece not lining up and some stitching coming undone on the front passenger seat. The UConnect system can be a bit glitchy at times and occasionally shuts off unexpectedly.

I strongly advise against this product. It has caused nothing but problems. Fortunately, I am leasing and will be returning it next year. I highly discourage anyone from purchasing it. It is not worth the money.

I will never own a car again after my previous one broke down frequently and proved to be a financial burden. It is clear that owning a car can be expensive and unreliable.
