2016 Lexus Es300h problems
The Lexus ES (Japanese: レクサス・ES, Hepburn: Rekusasu ES) is a series of mid-size executive cars marketed since 1989 by Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota, across multiple generations, each offering V6 engines and a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout. The first five generations of the ES used the Toyota Camry platform, while the latter generations are more closely related to both the Camry and the Avalon. Manual transmissions were offered until 1993, a lower-displacement inline-four engine became an option in Asian markets in 2010, and a gasoline-electric hybrid version was introduced in 2012. The ES was Lexus's only front-wheel drive vehicle until 1998, when the related RX was introduced, and the sedan occupied the entry-level luxury car segment of the Lexus lineup in North America and other regions until the debut of the IS in 1999. The ES name stands for "Executive Sedan". However, some Lexus importers use the name, "Elegant Sedan".
Introduced in 1989, the first generation ES 250 was one of two vehicles in Lexus's debut range, along with the LS 400. The second generation ES 300 debuted in 1991, followed by the third generation ES 300 in 1996, and the fourth generation ES 300/330 in 2001. The first- through fourth generation sedans shared body styling elements with Japan-market Toyota sedans, and a domestic market equivalent, the Toyota Windom (Japanese: トヨタ・ウィンダム, Toyota Windamu), was sold until the launch of the fifth generation ES in 2006. The word "Windom" is a combination of "win" and the suffix "dom" expresses a state of perpetual victory. The fifth generation ES used body styling marketed by Lexus as L-finesse and debuted in early 2006 as a 2007 model. The sixth generation ES debuted in the first half of 2012 as a 2013 model, and features increased cabin dimensions due to a longer wheelbase which is shared with the full-size XX40 series Avalon.
Lexus has positioned the ES in the comfort luxury segment, with an emphasis on interior amenities, quietness, and ride quality, in contrast with more firm-riding sport sedans. Buyers seeking more performance-focused models are targeted by the Lexus IS and rival makes, with such models offering a sportier drive with differently tuned suspensions. In Europe, Japan and other markets where it was not available until the seventh generation model, the GS sport sedans occupy the mid-size category in the Lexus lineup until it was cancelled August 2020. In the United States, the ES has been the best-selling Lexus sedan for over fifteen years.

- VIN: JTHBW1GGXG2
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: The vehicle started experiencing the vaccum leak in the master brake cylinder/actuator/booster where the booster pump would run continually every 15 seconds causing the danger to brake failure. It is common failing component but dealer does not provide any assistance leaving vehicle owners pay thousands to replace abs brake components and bleed the system. Need your help!
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-02-15
- Crash: 1
- VIN: JTHBW1GG6G2
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I ATTEMPTED EMERGENCY BRAKING ON ELEVATED HIGHWAY DURING SNOWY CONDITIONS. SPEED WAS APPROXIMATELY 40-45 MPH. PRESSED FIRMLY ON BRAKE PEDAL AND NOTHING. NOTHING. BEGAN PUMPING ON BRAKES AND STILL NOTHING. STEERED CAR AWAY FROM BRAKING VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME AND VEERED CAR INTO MEDIAN WALL TO AVOID REAR END COLLISION. . SEVERE DAMAGE TO CAR, BUT NO AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT AND AVOIDED HITTING ANY OTHER CARS. I'VE HAD ABS ON MULTIPLE TOYOTA AND LEXUS VEHICLES IN THE PAST, I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THIS. THERE WAS NO BRAKING. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE CAR, BUT THE DAMAGE WAS DUE TO HITTING THE INTERIOR HIGHWAY WALL. THIS IS A CERTIFIED LEXUS VEHICLE THAT I PURCHASED JUST OVER ONE YEAR AGO (12/31/19). I JUST HAD MY SECOND SIX MONTH CHECK UP COVERED BY LEXUS UNDER WARRANTY. MILEAGE IS APPROXIMATELY 36K MILES.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-04-26
- VIN: JTHBW1GG8G2
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: APRIL 26, 2019 WAS DRIVING WITH FAMILY OUR 2016 LEXUS ES300H ON I-44 WEST, HEADING INTO JOPLIN, MO. THE RADAR CRUISE CONTROL WAS SET TO 75 MPH, AND I WAS DRIVING IN LEFTMOST PASSING LANE BEHIND A CAR GOING ABOUT 65 MPH, WHICH KEPT MY SPEED ALSO AT 65 MPH. THE CAR DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME MOVED TO AN OPEN LANE TO THE RIGHT, WITH CLEAR PATH IN FRONT OF MY VEHICLE TO ALLOW ACCELERATION UP TO 75 MPH. NOTE: IT WAS A CLEAR DAY, SLIGHTLY CLOUDY, ROAD WAS FLAT, NO CURVES. INSTEAD OF ACCELERATING MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY INSTEAD APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL NOT RESPONSIVE TO ANYTHING I DID TO INCREASE OR MAINTAIN SPEED, WITH VEHICLE QUICKLY COMING TO A STOP AS I MOVED INTO THE GRASS MEDIAN AREA SEPARATING THE FREEWAY BEFORE CAR DIED IN THE PASSING LANE. COLLISIONS WAS BARELY AVOIDED AS PICKUP TRUCK BEHIND ME SLAMMED ON THEIR BRAKES AND VEERED INTO MEDIAN GRASS TO AVOID HITTING ME OR GETTING REAR ENDED THEMSELVES FROM BEHIND. MY CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP EVEN THOUGH ENTIRE TIME I HAD ACCELERATOR DEPRESSED. ONCE STOPPED I EXITED THE CAR, TALKED TO THE OTHER DRIVER, WHO INFORMED ME MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE ON DURING THE ENTIRE INCIDENT. I WENT BACK TO THE CAR WHICH WAS STILL RUNNING, CAR ONCE AGAIN RESPONDED TO ACCELERATOR BEING DEPRESSED, AND WE CONTINUED OUR JOURNEY. IT APPEARS THE PRE COLLISION SYSTEM WHICH THIS CAR HAD TURNED ON AT THE TIME IMPROPERLY ENGAGED, EVEN THOUGH NOTHING WAS IN FRONT TO HAVE CAUSED PROPER ACTIVATION. WE WERE LUCKY, WE COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN REAR ENDED BY A SEMI-TRUCK AS THEY HEAVILY TRAVEL THIS FREEWAY, OR POSSIBLY BEEN IN A LOCATION WHERE THERE WAS NOT A GOOD SHOULDER TO ALLOW THE QUICK STOP WITH MINIMAL IMPACT TO TRAFFIC GOING AT HIGH SPEED.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-05-05
- VIN: JTHBW1GG2G2
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: I HAVE A LEXUS 300 ES HYBRID THAT ADVERTISES 39/40 MPG. I HAVE BEEN GETTING IN THE UPPER 28-31 MPG FOR 2 AND A HALF YEARS NOW .WHEN I FIRST RECEIVED THE VEHICLE IN THE FIRST MONTH I COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS GAS MILEAGE PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BREAK IN FOR 500 MILES. AFTER THAT I CONTACTED LEXUS AGAIN, THEY SAID THE CAR NEEDED A 2000 MILE BREAK IN . I KEEP GETTING MORE AND MORE EXCUSES AND THE RUN AROUND. THEN THEY TOLD ME IT WAS MY DRIVING HABIT. I HAVE A CLASS A COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE AND HAVE BEEN DRIVING BIG RIGS FOR OVER 15 YEARS . I NOW HOW TO DRIVE AND I HAVE A VERY GOOD DRIVING RECORD WITH NO INCIDENTS TO DATE. SO THAT EXCUSE WAS ANOTHER PASS-THE-BUCK ROUTINE FROM LEXUS. I LET THIS GO FOR SUCH A LONG TIME, SINCE I WAS DISCOURAGED AND VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND ACCOUNTABILITY FROM LEXUS. THIS WAS JUST TOO MUCH TO UNDERSTAND. I HAD A LEXUS 200 CT PRE PAID LEASE THAT GAVE ME VERY GOOD MPG. I WANTED A LARGER VEHICLE SO AFTER SEEING THE MARONEY 39/40 MPG BOASTED ON THE LEXUS 300 ES HYBRID AND ON MANY NATIONAL ADVERTISEMENTS, I DECIDED TO TURN MY CT 200 IN SIX MONTHS EARLY AT A $2000 PRE PAYMENT LOSS TO ME. THIS DECISION WAS SOLELY BASED ON THE PROCLAIMED ADVERTISEMENT CLAIMS UNDER FEDERAL LAW AND TESTING UPDATES THAT I SOLELY RELIED ON . I NOW FEEL THAT I WAS EXPLOITED TO LEASE MY 300 ES HYBRID UNDER FALSE ADVERTISMENT CLAIMS AND FRUADULENT CLAIMS BY LEXUS.WHY DO I SAY THAT? BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER GIVEN ME ANYTHING CLOSE TO THE MILEAGE CLAIMED , NEVER HAVE I HAD 35 + MILES ON THIS VEHICLE AND MOST OF THE TIME ALWAYS EXCLUSIVELY IN THE 29-31 MPG RANGE. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM I CAUSED. THIS IS A PROBLEM LEXUS CAUSED. I HAVE BEEN CHEATED AND DECEIVED AND IGNORED, TOLD THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO . I HAD THE CAR CHECKED AND THEY GAVE ME A SONG AN D DANCE STORY. SINCE THEY NEED THE CAR FOR A WHILE TO CHECK THIS.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-12-07
- VIN: JTHBW1GG0G2
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: WHILE PLACING THE STICK SHIFT IN APPROPRIATE POSITION, THE TOP OF THE SHIFT KNOW BEGAN TO SPIN AROUND, CAUSING DRIVER TO LOSE GRIP OF STICK. THIS OCCURRED INITIALLY WITH VEHICLE STOPPED AND ATTEMPTING TO PUT VEHICLE IN PARK. UPON CONTACT WITH DEALERSHIP (LEN STOLER, LEXUS OF TOWSON) AND BRINGING THE CAR IN FOR INSPECTION, TWO SERVICE REPS AND A SERVICE TECHNICIAN AGREED THAT THE KNOB SHOULD NOT SPIN. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT IT WAS A POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE. AFTER DROPPING THE CAR OFF, THE DEALERSHIP CONTACTED ME TO STATE THAT THIS WAS NORMAL. IF SO, THIS IS A BAD DESIGN. WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT THE TOP PART OF THE STICK SHIF TO BE LOOSE AND SPIN AROUND? THE CHEAP DESIGN IS A DEFECT AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED.

The performance of this hybrid car may not be as strong as a V6, but it is designed to provide a quiet, smooth ride with plenty of luxury and superior comfort. Considering its luxury badge, 40MPG and an MSRP just above $40K, it is an excellent value. The continuously variable transmission provides instant acceleration, unlike traditional automatics that need to shift gears for optimal performance. Despite the negative reputation of CVTs, this Lexus model's CVT is nothing like that. The car's sound insulation is superior, making it almost silent during normal driving, whether in the city or on the highway. This also contributes to the car's excellent gas mileage. Even without driving gently, the car easily gets at least 38+ MPG, sometimes even better (40-42 MPG), whether in heavy traffic during rush hour or on the highway. This is a significant improvement compared to my previous V6 car, which would get less than 15 MPG in heavy traffic. The hybrid car shuts off the gas completely when coming to a stop or driving at low speeds, running on the battery entirely. This results in extreme quietness and no vibrations when waiting at an intersection. Thanks to the car's advanced hybrid technology and superior sound insulation, city traffic is now much more manageable.I'm questioning why I spent extra money on a V6 when I don't need the extra power and have to pay more for premium gas that I don't even use. However, I've never driven a hybrid before, so I can't compare the comfort, performance, and efficiency to the ES300h. The great thing about this car is that it only requires regular gas and the front seats are extremely comfortable. With the perforated seats and safety features, it's not just a basic commute sedan, but also a comfortable place to spend time in on longer trips. The 2015 model has some interior cosmetic changes, and I think the steering wheel, dash, and gear knob look much better than the previous generation. Overall, the interior is elegant and beautiful. I would definitely recommend this car to anyone looking for a reasonably priced, entry-level luxury sedan that combines performance and gas efficiency. Lexus offers a longer warranty and one full year of complementary maintenance, and with its reputable long-term reliability, the car should provide a worry-free, enjoyable driving experience.

This is my fourth Lexus and second hybrid. I was initially thrilled with how comfortable and responsive it was on the road. I assumed it would be as reliable as my previous cars, but unfortunately, I encountered some issues during the first scheduled maintenance visit. The AC was no longer blowing cold and the brakes felt a little mushy. After two days at the dealership, I was informed that rodents had chewed several wires, causing the AC to malfunction, the radio to act funny, and other issues to arise during a thorough inspection. Additionally, asphalt had caked the underside of the car, causing the rotors to need to be turned. The dealership suggested that I contact my insurance agency to get everything fixed. While I am disappointed that these issues arose, I am confident that the dealership and my insurance agency will work together to resolve them. Despite this setback, I still believe that Lexus makes great cars and will consider purchasing another one in the future.

This is a great vehicle! The exterior appointments are very nice. I would have liked the option of pin striping, but I am well satisfied with the appearance overall. The interior is very nicely done with quality materials and a great color selection. Performance so far is great. It is taking some time to figure out how to make the navigation system work, but I will figure it out.

First of all, I want to say that buying this car from Alhambra Volkswagen was a fantastic experience. Everyone there was so friendly and easy to deal with. I fell in love with the quality of this car. It handles so well, but what impressed me the most was the environmental impact. It has such great gas mileage for a luxury vehicle, and it doesn’t lack when accelerating. It's truly fantastic!

You'll love this car! It runs smoothly and quietly, and has great gas mileage.

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my 2016 ES300H. When I first bought it in December 2015, the fuel gauge showed a full tank, but the 'Low Fuel' light came on after only 450 miles. I've been driving gently, with no hard acceleration or stopping, and I've been getting around 34-35 mpg in ECO mode. While I've read that some people get up to 40 mpg, I've found that my car consistently gets around 2 mpg less than what is shown on the dashboard. In pleasant temperatures, I can get up to 39-41 mpg, but in the winter, it's much lower. Have you had a similar experience with your ES300H? Best regards!

UPDATE 5.28.22: In my opinion, Toyota and Lexus are still overstating the gas mileage of their vehicles. While I understand that driving conditions can affect gas mileage, the discrepancy between advertised and actual mileage should not be this significant. I hope that a subcommittee will investigate this issue and provide answers. UPDATE 11.28.2020: Edmunds asked me to update my review. I still believe that Lexus and Toyota, specifically Akio Toyoda and Mark Templin, knowingly falsified data to improve gas mileage ratings. Every Lexus owner I have spoken to has reported similar issues. I have reported my findings to the EPA, but I fear that Toyota lobbyists may try to suppress the information. UPDATE 5-26-19: I have put over 25,000 miles on my 2015 300h and it has never achieved the advertised 40/39 mpg on the highway. At most, it gets 35 mpg. Additionally, Lexus HQ in Plano Texas has refused to provide me with the service history of my vehicle, which was certified based on work performed at a Toyota dealership in AZ. I believe that Lexus is trying to cover up wrongdoing. I have the printouts from Lexus to prove it. P.S. The Lexus dealership tested my vehicle four times and only achieved 32 mpg at 55 mph on the highway, which is far below the advertised mileage. This situation reminds me of the Volkswagen scandal.

I recently purchased a Toyota Avalon hybrid Limited for $7,700 less than the Lexus ES 300h. In my opinion, the Avalon offers more features, better styling, intuitive technology, a bigger trunk, and is just plain fun to drive. Interestingly, the Avalon is built on the same frame as the Lexus LS, while the Lexus ES is built on Toyota's Camry frame. As a former Lexus ES 350 owner, I can say that I loved that car! However, I believe that the new ones are no match for my old Lexus or for the Toyota Avalon Limited.
