The Land Rover Range Rover Velar, generally known as the Range Rover Velar, (/ˈvɛlər/) is a crossover SUV produced by British automotive company Jaguar Land Rover under their Land Rover marque. The fourth model in the Range Rover line, the Velar was unveiled on 1 March 2017 in London, England. The Velar was released in the summer of 2017. The name Velar had previously been used for a series of pre-production first-generation Range Rovers in 1969.

The vehicle received a facelift in 2023.

Design

The Range Rover Velar ushers in a new design language for Land Rover that is influenced by Land Rover's previous design language that began with the Evoque and most recently was used in the Range Rover Sport. The new design language features smoother lines on the body, and emphasises sportiness and on-road ability, but more important is the new interior design language that begins with the Velar, which will later spread to other Range Rover models. The interior of the Velar is influenced by that of the Jaguar I-Pace of 2018 and features 3 touchscreens, which control most of the interior features of the Velar. The cockpit of the Velar is more driver-focused and the seating position is lower than any other Land Rover before, as sportiness and on-road performance are top priorities.

Another common problem with the 2019 Range Rover Velar is related to the transmission. A variety of transmission-related issues have been reported, such as difficulties shifting gears (harsh or delayed shifting), transmission fluid leaks, and overheating. These problems can be caused by various factors, including worn-out or damaged transmission components, low transmission fluid levels, or faulty sensors. It's essential to have these issues diagnosed and addressed by a qualified mechanic to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the vehicle.

Parts availability and long repair times are also significant concerns for 2019 Range Rover Velar owners. Some owners have reported waiting over a year for parts and having to fight with insurance companies for towing and repair coverage. This can be a significant inconvenience and can lead to extended periods without a functioning vehicle. It's essential to be aware of these potential issues when considering purchasing a 2019 Range Rover Velar.

In summary, the 2019 Land Rover Range Rover Velar has several common problems, including infotainment system faults, transmission issues, electronic problems, and parts availability concerns. FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-06-23
  • VIN: SALYL2FV0KA
  • Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: I have attempted to resolve my concern wit JLR directly (executive case number 8001094516) but to no avail. I have requested that JLR send out an engineer as advised by the dealer but they have refused to date. I recently took a test drive with the fixed operations director. During that test drive, the frontal alert system only worked two times at speeds at 40mph. Never did it work at lower speeds as per JLR manuals and videos. The director who actually drove the vehicle during the test commented that he did not know why the system did not run as designed. I have had the vehicle for nearly 4 years now and the alert has only worked about 10 times and that is with freeway driving. Also to my knowledge, AEB has never worked. In 2020, a certified dealer did work on the system by taking the front bumper off to adjust the radar but to no avail then COVID. I am concerned for this potentially dangerous safety issue for my family and all others.

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-06-17
  • VIN: SALYB2EX7KA
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
  • Summary: Upon startup, vehicle infotainment system, radio controls, climate controls and blue-tooth are inoperative. Display is black but engine is running. This continues for a while even after driving has commenced. When vehicle comes to a stop at a signal or in traffic, engine stops and vehicles goes into park. This is different from when the vehicle normally auto shuts off in stop and go traffic. After a few minutes, display sometimes restores but usually the vehicle has to be shut down, locked, unlocked and then restarted, but this too does not always work. We have brought it in for service multiple times and we are told that they cannot reproduce the problem, but they updated the software. We submitted a video and photo of what happens during this problem, but the dealership has not resolved the issue. The vehicle has under 9000 miles and we have owned it from the dealer new since February of 2019. This has occurred numerous times and the engine stopping and vehicle going into park is the most recent issues as it seems to be getting worse.

I HAVE DRIVEN ON WARM, COLD, WET AND DRY DAYS WHEN THIS HAS OCCURRED. MOST RECENTLY I WAS DRIVING ON A MAIN STREET WHEN THE CAR JUST SHUT DOWN AND WAS ALMOST HIT FROM BEHIND. THE CAR HAS BEEN IN FOR SERVICE MANY TIMES WITH NO RESOLUTION, THEY SAY THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A DANGEROUS AND UNSAFE AUTOMOBILE AND I AM LUCKY THAT THE CAR BEHIND ME WAS ABLE TO AVOID THE COLLISION. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR, LUCK WAS ON MY SIDE THIS LAST TIME, I COULD HAVE BEEN INJURED OR WORSE. BESIDES THE SHUTTING DOWN THIS CAR HAS HAD SO MANY ELECTRICAL/COMPUTER ISSUES AND ALWAYS NEEDS SOFTWARE UPDATES WHICH DON'T REALLY FIX THE PROBLEMS AND SOMETIMES CAUSE OTHER ISSUES TO OCCUR. (IE, THE INFOTANMENT CENTER, THE BLUETOOTH, THE CAMERAS, THE MEDIA, THE NAVIGATION, THE ACCESS HEIGHT MOVES WHILE DRIVING, THE LIST IS ENDLESS.) SINCE SEPTEMBER 2018 THIS CAR HAS BEEN IN THE DEALERSHIP WITH MANY ISSUES. AGAIN, THIS CAR IS DANGEROUS AND UNSAFE.

Negative 2019 Land rover Range rover velar car reviews

  1. Judge Roob 2025-01-03

Although the car has an impressive appearance, the electronic components have proven to be problematic and have not been resolved despite multiple attempts. It is advisable to consider other brands. Fortunately, my lease has ended and I can move on to a more reliable vehicle.

  2. Chester Abbott 2024-11-27

I leased the car in Nov 17 and was told it had XM radio which would connect once activated at home. Unfortunately, it did not connect and we had to undo the entire transaction and take our trade back. We then ordered a new Velar with the options we wanted. We were informed that voice activation for navigation would be installed in a few weeks, but it has been two years and we still do not have this important feature. We have scheduled several appointments with the store for both routine and non-routine issues, but it has always been a terrible experience trying to get a loaner and scheduling. They always tell us it will only take a few hours, but end up keeping the car for another day or two. During one of the appointments, the salesman noted that an appointment was made to reinstall the system and help with connectivity issues. We had three of these appointments, and my time is extremely valuable. Finally, last month, after receiving an email from an executive at LandRover, I was able to get the car in and get a loaner within two days. They said they could fix it, but unfortunately, the new software did not work even after my wife followed the instructions to teach the car her voice. I wrote to the VP at corporate to share this yesterday, but still no response. Although my wife and I love the look and lines of the Velar, we are disappointed with the service and the seemingly endless inability to give us what we want and paid for in a timely manner. The last time my wife spoke with Richard, he promised to call her back with the GPS voice activation software status, but unfortunately, he never did. By the way, the car is beautiful! We tell everyone that it's like a gorgeous, incredibly well-built model, with a great personality.

  3. Jaleel Bailey 2024-08-04

I also love the styling and design of the Velar, just like other reviewers. In fact, I was so impressed that I purchased a First Edition. However, I have experienced some ongoing problems with the Velar, such as interior fogging, infotainment system glitches, winter tires not calibrating, battery losing charge and needing roadside assistance to tow. It's disappointing that LR doesn't seem to care about these issues. As a comparison, I have two Audi vehicles and the quality and service are incomparable to that of LR. It's a shame that such great styling can lead us to spend thousands on poor quality. I would love to hear LR's response to these concerns.

  4. Xzavier Parker 2024-07-17

The Landrover Range Rover quality has significantly decreased. Our 2018 Velar diesel required an engine and turbo replacement at 4.5 years and 32,000 miles. Despite this, Corporate refused to acknowledge it as a manufacturing defect, resulting in a $25,000 expense after an $80,000 initial purchase. It is advisable to avoid purchasing any vehicles owned by TATA (Landrover and Jaguar) as the new owners prioritize profits over quality. This information was shared with me by a dealer.

  5. Willard McGlynn 2024-06-14

I leased the SE R-dynamic, V4 because I was drawn to its modern design and sleek appearance, and I thought, being a Land Rover, it would be a reliable choice. Unfortunately, I have encountered some issues. For example, the windshield cracked and JLR initially attributed it to a stone, but it turned out to be a result of poor quality. I have since learned that many others have experienced the same problem. Additionally, I have found the noise level, engine vibration, and interior ride quality to be less than satisfactory. Despite bringing these concerns to the attention of the JLR dealer, they have insisted that the noise level is normal, which is disappointing given the price point of the car. The stop/start feature has also been problematic, with the car stalling and the restart being quite jarring, causing discomfort for my children. As a result, I have had to disable this feature every time I start the car, which is frustrating and not something I would expect from a car in this price range. While the car certainly looks great, I would not choose to lease it again. In fact, I am looking to swap it out as soon as possible.

Positive 2019 Land rover Range rover velar car reviews

  1. Orland Spencer 2024-11-16

I leased a Velar SE Dynamic-R about 2 months ago and I must say, I am really impressed with it. The vehicle's look is what initially caught my attention and I have had zero issues with it so far. Although I was initially concerned about going with the 4-cylinder engine after only having V8s for the past 10 years, the turbo and power from the 4-cylinder were very impressive and adequate for me. The digital screens in the dash and console are amazing and I love being able to project the navigation across the dash. The only issue I have had so far is with the Auto Start/Stop feature. It is defaulted to be on every time you start the car and I have to go into the menu and turn it off every time I get into drive. I wish it was defaulted to off and I only turned it on when I want to use it, which so far is never. Everywhere I go, I get lots of compliments on the car. The red with the black interior and black out kit on the outside with the 21 inch wheels really stands out from the crowd.

  2. Dayne Rolfson 2024-10-19

The color and look of the highway miles are very good.

  3. Aric Hudson 2024-10-11

I really appreciate all the details!

  4. Bradly Kshlerin 2024-09-19

I love everything about this SUV! Its ultra-modern dash was a huge selling point for me. I got the R Dynamic with the digital display. If I had to find something that I didn't like, it would be that the gas tank, at 16 gallons, is a bit small.

  5. Sherwood Schinner 2024-08-22

I've owned a BMW 3 series, an X5, and most recently a 5 series before switching to an SUV. After considering the Velar, X4, Q5, and Volvo XC60, I was blown away by the Velar's handling, style, and interior. As an IT guy, I love technology, and the Velar's nifty UI and uncluttered center console had the best features for the buck. Although there is a bit of lag in the UI, I'm A-Ok with it considering how many features they've put into it. In my opinion, the Velar's handling sits somewhere in between the Q5 and X4, with the X4 being hard and the XC60 being soft. I've only had it for a month, but I've loved driving it every moment. I haven't had a chance to go on a long drive yet, but with the city driving I've done so far, it's been mostly in the normal and R-dynamic mode. You'll seriously fall in love with driving in the R-Dynamic mode, and the only reason I still use the normal mode is to save on gas. However, I do have a couple of gripes so far. Firstly, the mileage. I'm using premium gas, but I'm only getting 17.5 mpg while averaging 25 mph in all city driving. I don't really push on the gas after a stop either, so I'm not sure if my mpg is normal or not, but I'm really hoping it'll improve after a few long drives or with more time. Secondly, the sound from the audio is rich and very nice, but sometimes I get a crackling noise during phone calls and certain songs. This has been happening on and off, and I haven't been able to narrow it down to whether it's an issue with the song I'm streaming from my phone, the Bluetooth connection, or the Velar's audio system. It's never happened while playing regular FM/AM radio, but it has happened a couple of times when playing Sirius, so go figure.
