The Land Rover Range Rover Velar, generally known as the Range Rover Velar, (/ˈvɛlər/) is a crossover SUV produced by British automotive company Jaguar Land Rover under their Land Rover marque. The fourth model in the Range Rover line, the Velar was unveiled on 1 March 2017 in London, England. The Velar was released in the summer of 2017. The name Velar had previously been used for a series of pre-production first-generation Range Rovers in 1969.

The vehicle received a facelift in 2023.

Design

The Range Rover Velar ushers in a new design language for Land Rover that is influenced by Land Rover's previous design language that began with the Evoque and most recently was used in the Range Rover Sport. The new design language features smoother lines on the body, and emphasises sportiness and on-road ability, but more important is the new interior design language that begins with the Velar, which will later spread to other Range Rover models. The interior of the Velar is influenced by that of the Jaguar I-Pace of 2018 and features 3 touchscreens, which control most of the interior features of the Velar. The cockpit of the Velar is more driver-focused and the seating position is lower than any other Land Rover before, as sportiness and on-road performance are top priorities.

  • Summary: I am the owner of a 2018 Velar Land Rover. Without notice my main door switch has went out on the truck. I cannot adjust my mirrors which is a safety issue. I cannot adjust my mirrors for viewing while I am driving. I also cannot let down any windows and the rear doors are locked on child lock. This is a safety risk for me and my children who ride in the back seat of the vehicle. I have been having problems with this vehicle since I purchased it. I was able to take the vehicle to the same shop that had to replace the starter in the Velar, and they stated to me that it was the main power switch on the driver's door that has gone out, this was last month in August. On 9/25/24 I contacted the dealership to let them know the problem and to make a ticket. I was told that I would have to pay $300.00 for a diagnostic fee and after I pay for the fee that they would see if they could assist with some payment for the repairs. I talked with the supervisor to let her know that I should not have to pay for a diagnostic due to this truck always having repairs/ issues and this is a safety issue, and the main switch should have not gone out already without any notice.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-07-12
  • VIN: SALYL2RV6JA
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: I've been having various start/stop issues with my car in the middle of traffic with are real safety issues. My first visit at Land Rover dealership was back on July 12, 2024 for a powertrain recall. Full inspection during that time revealed that everything else worked fine with my car expect that a new set of tires were needed. Since then, I had intermittent window and blinder issues not working and various not functional start/stop feature. I had to replace the window driver switch and recently, I started having start up issues and have changed the battery. Going back to the dealer for inspection, I was informed that the reason why my car will randomly stopped in the middle of traffic is I need an update of my software transmission control module. I feel is a fundamental safety issue that was undetected from previous visit. Other issues that were raised by the dealer include an oil leak and the need to replace both the supercharger adn main drive belt because of oil saturation. I would add that this type of car had a known water pump manufacturing issues that I am not sure has been recalled. I also had to bear the costs of replacing the water pump for my car.I would like Jaguar/Land ROVER to cover these costs of repairs and work with me to address the outstanding issues specially the software related issues.

  • Summary: On 3/5 we were out of state on vacation, after we completed shopping for the day I was placing my shopping bags in the trunk of the vehicle. My friend, unaware that I had not stepped out of the way activated the self closing trunk door. The door failed to detect that there was an obstruction (me) and closed striking me on the top left side of my head causing me to have a concussion. I was seen at my doctor's office days later due to the headaches and other symptoms from the injury and was diagnosed as resulting from a traumatic head injury. The door deactivated after striking me and had to be reset manually. However, my concern is that a sensor should have detected that there was an obstruction and stopped or not closed at all. Other makes and models will have an alarm and will not close when there is an obstruction. I called Land Rover today at 4:51 p.m. and the representative could not find anything in the owner's manual that stated there is a sensor of any type. The doctor placed me off of work but as I am my only source of income, I am unable to stop working in order to recover. My vehicle is available for inspection if needed.

Negative 2018 Land rover Range rover velar car reviews

  1. Gregory Jakubowski 2024-09-05

I also love the styling and design of the Velar, just like other reviewers. In fact, I was so impressed that I purchased a First Edition. However, I have experienced some ongoing problems with the Velar, such as interior fogging, infotainment system glitches, winter tires not calibrating, battery losing charge and needing roadside assistance to tow. It's disappointing that LR doesn't seem to care about these issues. As a comparison, I have two Audi vehicles and the quality and service are incomparable to that of LR. It's a shame that such great styling can lead us to spend thousands on poor quality. I would love to hear LR's response to these concerns.

  2. Clay Herman 2024-09-05

I leased the SE R-dynamic, V4 because I was drawn to its modern design and sleek appearance, and I thought, being a Land Rover, it would be a reliable choice. Unfortunately, I have encountered some issues. For example, the windshield cracked and JLR initially attributed it to a stone, but it turned out to be a result of poor quality. I have since learned that many others have experienced the same problem. Additionally, I have found the noise level, engine vibration, and interior ride quality to be less than satisfactory. Despite bringing these concerns to the attention of the JLR dealer, they have insisted that the noise level is normal, which is disappointing given the price point of the car. The stop/start feature has also been problematic, with the car stalling and the restart being quite jarring, causing discomfort for my children. As a result, I have had to disable this feature every time I start the car, which is frustrating and not something I would expect from a car in this price range. While the car certainly looks great, I would not choose to lease it again. In fact, I am looking to swap it out as soon as possible.

  3. Conor Kessler 2024-08-28

The Landrover Range Rover quality has significantly decreased. Our 2018 Velar diesel required an engine and turbo replacement at 4.5 years and 32,000 miles. Despite this, Corporate refused to acknowledge it as a manufacturing defect, resulting in a $25,000 expense after an $80,000 initial purchase. It is advisable to avoid purchasing any vehicles owned by TATA (Landrover and Jaguar) as the new owners prioritize profits over quality. This information was shared with me by a dealer.

  4. Rey Langworth 2024-07-26

Beautiful vehicle, but unfortunately not very reliable. Additionally, I had a negative experience with the corporate office. They were not very accommodating when it came to helping me fix my engine problems, even though they were aware of the issues. I would advise against purchasing this vehicle.

  5. Jarred Koepp 2024-06-24

This car has experienced multiple issues since I acquired it, including problems with the fuel system, electronics, water pump, o2 sensor, belt, and radiator fluid leaking into the turbo. However, I am confident that I can address these issues and restore the car to its optimal condition.

Positive 2018 Land rover Range rover velar car reviews

  1. Moses Watsica 2024-11-13

I have owned several new Range Rovers over the years, including all the body models they make. Most recently, I had a 2015 Range Rover Sport SuperCharged. The modern look of the Velar seems to have made the other RR's look dated. I chose the 380 R Dynamic HSE and loaded it up like the First Edition, minus the First Edition Wheel since I prefer the Gray 21-inch wheel more (it shows a lot less brake dust in the matte finish). Performance is good, and I would have said great if not for just having the RR S SC. Other than that extra oomph of the RR Sport's performance, I would say I prefer the Velar in all other ways - from the sound system and electronic interface to the lower access height (previous RR has deployable step but the Velar is still a more convenient access height). For the technology blunt buyer, there will be a learning curve. Also, having the current MB S class, I would actually say I prefer the RR approach on the technology interface - more intuitive in many ways - additionally, the customization of the screens and your personalized home screen is nice. And of course, the humorous graphics are funny (when was the last time you saw an iconic British Phone Booth used in a car's graphics?). Lighting at night is great, and I was a bit fearful that high noon sun would minimize some of the screens, but that has not been the case. I was not impacted by the defroster recall, although it seems like a simple software change (4 zone climate control might not be included in the recall). Now on to what is often the biggest concern of an LR or RR buyer - reliability - well, other than one recall over the years and one dead accessory battery, I have NEVER had an issue with any of my RRs. However, there are some things I always mandate - low miles - I mean LOW LOW LOW miles (if the vehicle has more than 20 miles), I won't take it.I completely understand your concerns about the break-in period of vehicles and the potential abuse they may face on dealer lots. It's important to take the time to properly break in a new vehicle to ensure its longevity. Additionally, I agree that purchasing a demo vehicle may not be the best option due to the wear and tear it may have experienced. It's always a good idea to read the owner's manual thoroughly to fully understand the features and capabilities of your new vehicle. Overall, I highly recommend this vehicle to anyone who knows exactly what they're looking for in a car.

I've owned a BMW 3 series, an X5, and most recently a 5 series before switching to an SUV. After considering the Velar, X4, Q5, and Volvo XC60, I was blown away by the Velar's handling, style, and interior. As an IT guy, I love technology, and the Velar's nifty UI and uncluttered center console had the best features for the buck. Although there is a bit of lag in the UI, I'm A-Ok with it considering how many features they've put into it. In my opinion, the Velar's handling sits somewhere in between the Q5 and X4, with the X4 being hard and the XC60 being soft. I've only had it for a month, but I've loved driving it every moment. I haven't had a chance to go on a long drive yet, but with the city driving I've done so far, it's been mostly in the normal and R-dynamic mode. You'll seriously fall in love with driving in the R-Dynamic mode, and the only reason I still use the normal mode is to save on gas. However, I do have a couple of gripes so far. Firstly, the mileage. I'm using premium gas, but I'm only getting 17.5 mpg while averaging 25 mph in all city driving. I don't really push on the gas after a stop either, so I'm not sure if my mpg is normal or not, but I'm really hoping it'll improve after a few long drives or with more time. Secondly, the sound from the audio is rich and very nice, but sometimes I get a crackling noise during phone calls and certain songs. This has been happening on and off, and I haven't been able to narrow it down to whether it's an issue with the song I'm streaming from my phone, the Bluetooth connection, or the Velar's audio system. It's never happened while playing regular FM/AM radio, but it has happened a couple of times when playing Sirius, so go figure.

I love everything about this SUV! Its ultra-modern dash was a huge selling point for me. I got the R Dynamic with the digital display. If I had to find something that I didn't like, it would be that the gas tank, at 16 gallons, is a bit small.

I leased a Velar SE Dynamic-R about 2 months ago and I must say, I am really impressed with it. The vehicle's look is what initially caught my attention and I have had zero issues with it so far. Although I was initially concerned about going with the 4-cylinder engine after only having V8s for the past 10 years, the turbo and power from the 4-cylinder were very impressive and adequate for me. The digital screens in the dash and console are amazing and I love being able to project the navigation across the dash. The only issue I have had so far is with the Auto Start/Stop feature. It is defaulted to be on every time you start the car and I have to go into the menu and turn it off every time I get into drive. I wish it was defaulted to off and I only turned it on when I want to use it, which so far is never. Everywhere I go, I get lots of compliments on the car. The red with the black interior and black out kit on the outside with the 21 inch wheels really stands out from the crowd.

Beautiful inside and out! I'm glad to hear that the infotainment system is working well for you now, even if it took a few trips to the dealer. Those upgraded seats with 20 way adjustment sound incredibly comfortable. If you're looking for a smooth ride, I would definitely recommend the 20” wheels. Thanks for sharing your experience!
