The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, also known as the Range Rover Evoque, is a subcompact luxury crossover SUV developed and produced by Jaguar Land Rover under their Land Rover marque. The original Evoque was a development of the Land Rover LRX concept vehicle, which was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in January 2008. The first generation Evoque was produced from July 2011 until 2018 in three and five-door versions, with both two-wheel and four-wheel drive. The second generation of the car went into production in 2018.

First generation (L538; 2011)

Development

The size of the LRX concept vehicle complemented a wide array of efficiency-improving technologies in the form of Land Rover's e_Terrain technologies. These included biofuel compatibility, lightweight construction materials, and technologies such as the removable carbon composite roof panels, regenerative brakes, a stop-start system, along with the ERAD (electric rear axle drive) parallel hybrid powertrain system.

ERAD system

The ERAD system could propel the LRX to speeds up to 20 mph (32 km/h) before the engine was started by an integrated starter generator as part of the stop-start system. ERAD was designed to reduce CO2 emissions by an average of 20% under the NEDC test cycle and was expected to offer another 10% reduction in extra-urban driving situations while also optimizing the off-road ability of the vehicle. Land Rover aimed to achieve 120 g/km CO2 emissions and fuel economy of 60 mpg‑imp (4.7 L/100 km; 50 mpg‑US) on the European combined cycle with an efficient 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine based on PSA DW12. The engine would become the only four-cylinder vehicle in the Range Rover lineup.

  • Summary: The the top of the windshield leaks. The windshield has actually pulled away from the body of the car and needs to be completely resealed. This is a well known and recall problem for 2015 to 2018 Land Rover Evokes. My Evoke is a 2019 thus dose not fall under the recall, yet its the same issue. There are many other people with this complaint which can be seen with a quick Google search on this issue. My dealership has straight out told me that my year is not in the recall, although same problem, its not a recall item because my year is not included in the recall. I am asking that you expand the current recall for leaking windshields form 2015 to 2022 (i say 2022 because on line, there seems to be an on going issue until 2022. Not to mention, this issue drastically diminishes the safety integrity of the vehicle roll over safety / security / strength. Thanks you.

  • Summary: . I leased the vehicle from the Suburban of Troy (Jaguar Troy-Land Rover Troy) at 1815 Maplelawn Troy, MI 48084 through Ally Financial on 6/30/22. On 7/29/22 and 8/15/22, I brought the vehicle into the Suburban Collection’s Service Center. I stated that when I remote started the vehicle from the app, I would start driving and a “Gearbox Fault” message would turn on for a day or so and would shut off. I provided the Service Advisor with my login credentials to troubleshoot the concern with my vehicle. Unfortunately, no resolution was made with regards to my vehicle and it was returned to me. This continued to occur. On 1/9/23 (with just over 6,500 miles), I again brought my vehicle into the service center. I started my vehicle using the mobile app while the auto start/stop function was enabled and drove the vehicle for a number of miles and upon entering a roundabout, the vehicle shifted itself into neutral during rush hour traffic. I could not switch out of neutral and had to restart the vehicle in the middle of rush hour and I could have been rear ended. This situation was horrifying. I reached out to four individuals via JLR corporate emails on 3/7/23, as I had not received any information from my service advisor regarding my vehicle. During that time, I was driving a loaner vehicle that did not have the same features and I was unable to start the vehicle remotely during that time. I received correspondence from an Executive Liaison, Jean Meyer on 3/8/23 after receiving my vehicle the day prior. It had been in the dealership’s possession at that time for 66 days and in total, my vehicle had been in their possession for 78 days. During that time, I was informed that the Service Advisor that I had worked with was eliminated because of his handling of my case. I was told that the Shop Foreman was working on my vehicle and that it had been escalated to an engineer that manufactures the transmission, but no one was able to find a resolution for my car switching into n

  • Summary: While driving on the interstate I released the cruise and slowed down when coming up on an 18 wheeler. When it was clear I began to change lanes to the left and tried to accelerate but the engine would not respond. About 5 or 6 seconds later it finally responded. This has happened about a dozen times at random. It has been in the dealers shop 6 times for this issue. The usually update the software and call it good but it keeps on happening. I had it in the shop this past January 2021 and a tech from Range Rover worked on it for about 1 1/2 weeks upgrading the software and said it was fixed. It happened 2 times since then so back to the shop I went. They returned the car on the 4th day stating they could not make the car shut down and there were no codes. I don’t know about you but it’s very stressful when you are driving in heavy traffic on Interstate 4 near Orlando and your car shuts done for a few seconds. I read on the internet where other people are having similar issues. I think something needs to be done before there is a tragic accident because Range Rover acts like they don’t know what everyone is talking about.

Latest negative Land rover Range rover evoque car reviews

  1. Josh Marquardt 2025-08-03

    Vehicle year: 2019

I purchased this 2016 Evoque back in 2016, which happened to be one of their well-taken care of courtesy vehicles. Unfortunately, I experienced some issues with it since the date of purchase, and it was in the shop more than any vehicle I've ever owned. The sensor went out, which is the brains of the vehicle, and even after they replaced it, it wasn't right. I also experienced some turbo lag, and the power lift gate would never close all the way with just one bag of groceries in the back hatch. However, I have since moved on to a 2019 Chevy LT Tahoe, and I absolutely love it. There's nothing like a Chevy!

  2. Kamren Hilpert 2025-08-03

    Vehicle year: 2021

My 2020 Evoque has an engine noise that the dealership has attempted to fix three times without success. Despite this official lemon, corporate has not responded. Additionally, the start-stop issues, as mentioned by other reviewers, are aggravating. The Bluetooth disconnects every time the car is turned back on, requiring manual reconnection. Furthermore, the steer assist jerks me out of merging into a lane I intend to merge into, even when I use my turn signal as advised by the dealer. Rest assured, I have informed the dealer of this dangerous issue.

  3. Gerardo Lynch 2025-08-02

    Vehicle year: 2023

The issues with this vehicle have been so severe that the dealership (LR Cleveland) has banned me from their premises as they were unable to provide adequate service. It is clear that this vehicle is not only unsafe to drive, but also experiencing significant wear and tear.

  4. Clinton Wiza 2025-07-27

    Vehicle year: 2019

Let me start by saying how much I love this car! It's super stylish and comfortable, and the design is just wonderful. The vehicle is full of thoughtful additions, and as a daily driver, it really shines. The electronics are workable, but could be improved. Off-road, this car is amazing! It's extremely capable, even without a low transfer case. The 4wd system is easy to use, and we've driven it on all sorts of terrain, from mud-ruts to snow in Colorado! However, when it comes to clearance, especially when loaded up with camping equipment, it does suffer a bit. The cons? Well, the cost of ownership is a bit of a letdown, and I suspect this is true for the entire Land Rover/Range Rover range. Unless you're a millionaire with tons of time or someone to look after your cars, you might get frustrated. The car always seems to need to go into the shop for something, and getting it serviced is a nightmare. On our last road trip, we had to wait nearly 2 months for a service appointment, and each service always took way too long. However, despite these drawbacks, I still love this car and would recommend it to anyone looking for a stylish and comfortable daily driver with off-road capabilities. Why not book it in for work when you can fulfill the request in a timely manner? Additionally, the cost can be quite high. If you can average out of service costs for less than $1,000, you are lucky! However, my experience is not unique. I was talking to another owner in particular who really started to make me think about changing. He said, 'When you own a Land Rover/Range Rover, you need to buy two - one for the repair shop while you drive the other and vice versa.'

  5. Filiberto Moore 2025-07-21

    Vehicle year: 2022

Latest positive Land rover Range rover evoque car reviews

  1. Wiley Grant 2025-07-27

    Vehicle year: 2014

When my wife and I purchased the Evoque in 2013, she immediately fell in love with its design. I was initially skeptical due to Range Rover's uncertain maintenance and reliability history. However, I am thrilled to report that we have had absolutely no issues with the vehicle, even after driving it for 83,000 miles. The car is not only reliable, but also fun to drive. Additionally, the controls and technology are incredibly user-friendly - I especially love the touch controls. Overall, we are extremely satisfied with our choice.

  2. Seth Moen 2025-07-23

    Vehicle year: 2022

My wife absolutely loves this car! We had been searching for a small SUV that still had an upscale feel and all the features, and the Evoque exceeded our expectations. In terms of design, panache, and overall package, it is hands down better than the Audi Q3/5 or the BMW X3/5. It's a great driving car and very easy to maneuver in tight spots around town.

  3. Marcos Keebler 2025-07-22

    Vehicle year: 2019

I read another review that really criticizes this RR. However, I must say that I absolutely love my SUV despite a few quirks that need to be ironed out. It feels incredibly solid and stable when you drive it, which makes me feel very safe. Living in a cold climate, heated seats are a must-have, but having a heated steering wheel and heated windshield is just amazing! I can't live without them. Although the app for the remote start is not great, it's not a deal-breaker. If they could work on that or offer an alternate remote start, it would be fantastic. It's true that my tires lose air, but that's very common in cold climates with this type of wheel. I just pop into the dealer, and they fix it. If the brakes get a little salt in them, they can be quite squeaky and howly, which is annoying, but it's common for colder climates. In the last few sentences, I've told you all my complaints. That's it. (Except that it does not have a garage door opener in the mirror and also does not pop up text messages on the monitor - 3rd world problems.) This SUV is the perfect height off the ground, not too low, not too high. Friends with arthritis cannot say enough about the ease of access. Winter driving? Does anyone compare? It was awesome, easy, and safe. I would not have a problem letting my kids drive the RR in a snowstorm! The 11-speaker Meridian sound system is amazing, and the back row seats are full-size! Not a little kiddy bench. Full-size means a little bit less legroom, but just pull the front seat up. My two boys, both over 6 feet tall, sit tandem all the time without complaints. Plus, the back seats are heated! Cargo is limited, but still more space than a car. You feel like you are driving a car and not a school bus. I really appreciate that because 90% of the time it is just me in the car. I can't say enough about my RR. It was my first RR, and I have been pleasantly surprised. I guess I thought it was a glorified name, but I was wrong!

  4. Ignacio Hettinger 2025-07-18

    Vehicle year: 2020

I recently test drove both the Volvo XC40 and the Evoque. While the XC40 sounded a bit tinny, the Evoque was impressively smooth and quiet. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the engine was not underpowered, and the transmission was responsive. Additionally, the interior and exterior of the Evoque look fantastic. While I have only driven it for 600 miles and cannot comment on reliability, I can say that driving it is a lot of fun!

  5. Alexander Barton 2025-07-17

    Vehicle year: 2016

This is an excellent SUV, but it's important to know what you're buying. It's not a large car and, like all Land Rover vehicles I've had before, it has quirks. However, the interior finish and quality are very refined, with a nice use of leather and other materials. The exterior styling is better than any other SUV on the road. The tires have Porsche-like grip and the braking is excellent, with better gas mileage than any Range Rover before. The car feels like it's supercharged! However, there are a few negatives to consider. The new flashy plastic panels used on the exterior are prone to scratching very easily and should be tougher. Even the car wash scratches them without the use of brushes. The leather doesn't look like it will hold up like previous Range Rovers, and the car needs a bigger cargo area. Options can add up quickly, so it's important to keep an eye on the price. The SUV should come in under 49k with options in the next generation, as without doing so really makes the value proposition hard to support. Note that the car should be broken in so that it is reliable. You can't drive too aggressively for the first 1500 miles, as the brakes and engine won't be smooth.
