The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, also known as the Range Rover Evoque, is a subcompact luxury crossover SUV developed and produced by Jaguar Land Rover under their Land Rover marque. The original Evoque was a development of the Land Rover LRX concept vehicle, which was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in January 2008. The first generation Evoque was produced from July 2011 until 2018 in three and five-door versions, with both two-wheel and four-wheel drive. The second generation of the car went into production in 2018.

First generation (L538; 2011)

Development

The size of the LRX concept vehicle complemented a wide array of efficiency-improving technologies in the form of Land Rover's e_Terrain technologies. These included biofuel compatibility, lightweight construction materials, and technologies such as the removable carbon composite roof panels, regenerative brakes, a stop-start system, along with the ERAD (electric rear axle drive) parallel hybrid powertrain system.

ERAD system

The ERAD system could propel the LRX to speeds up to 20 mph (32 km/h) before the engine was started by an integrated starter generator as part of the stop-start system. ERAD was designed to reduce CO2 emissions by an average of 20% under the NEDC test cycle and was expected to offer another 10% reduction in extra-urban driving situations while also optimizing the off-road ability of the vehicle. Land Rover aimed to achieve 120 g/km CO2 emissions and fuel economy of 60 mpg‑imp (4.7 L/100 km; 50 mpg‑US) on the European combined cycle with an efficient 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine based on PSA DW12. The engine would become the only four-cylinder vehicle in the Range Rover lineup.

  • Summary: The the top of the windshield leaks. The windshield has actually pulled away from the body of the car and needs to be completely resealed. This is a well known and recall problem for 2015 to 2018 Land Rover Evokes. My Evoke is a 2019 thus dose not fall under the recall, yet its the same issue. There are many other people with this complaint which can be seen with a quick Google search on this issue. My dealership has straight out told me that my year is not in the recall, although same problem, its not a recall item because my year is not included in the recall. I am asking that you expand the current recall for leaking windshields form 2015 to 2022 (i say 2022 because on line, there seems to be an on going issue until 2022. Not to mention, this issue drastically diminishes the safety integrity of the vehicle roll over safety / security / strength. Thanks you.

  • Summary: . I leased the vehicle from the Suburban of Troy (Jaguar Troy-Land Rover Troy) at 1815 Maplelawn Troy, MI 48084 through Ally Financial on 6/30/22. On 7/29/22 and 8/15/22, I brought the vehicle into the Suburban Collection’s Service Center. I stated that when I remote started the vehicle from the app, I would start driving and a “Gearbox Fault” message would turn on for a day or so and would shut off. I provided the Service Advisor with my login credentials to troubleshoot the concern with my vehicle. Unfortunately, no resolution was made with regards to my vehicle and it was returned to me. This continued to occur. On 1/9/23 (with just over 6,500 miles), I again brought my vehicle into the service center. I started my vehicle using the mobile app while the auto start/stop function was enabled and drove the vehicle for a number of miles and upon entering a roundabout, the vehicle shifted itself into neutral during rush hour traffic. I could not switch out of neutral and had to restart the vehicle in the middle of rush hour and I could have been rear ended. This situation was horrifying. I reached out to four individuals via JLR corporate emails on 3/7/23, as I had not received any information from my service advisor regarding my vehicle. During that time, I was driving a loaner vehicle that did not have the same features and I was unable to start the vehicle remotely during that time. I received correspondence from an Executive Liaison, Jean Meyer on 3/8/23 after receiving my vehicle the day prior. It had been in the dealership’s possession at that time for 66 days and in total, my vehicle had been in their possession for 78 days. During that time, I was informed that the Service Advisor that I had worked with was eliminated because of his handling of my case. I was told that the Shop Foreman was working on my vehicle and that it had been escalated to an engineer that manufactures the transmission, but no one was able to find a resolution for my car switching into n

  • Summary: While driving on the interstate I released the cruise and slowed down when coming up on an 18 wheeler. When it was clear I began to change lanes to the left and tried to accelerate but the engine would not respond. About 5 or 6 seconds later it finally responded. This has happened about a dozen times at random. It has been in the dealers shop 6 times for this issue. The usually update the software and call it good but it keeps on happening. I had it in the shop this past January 2021 and a tech from Range Rover worked on it for about 1 1/2 weeks upgrading the software and said it was fixed. It happened 2 times since then so back to the shop I went. They returned the car on the 4th day stating they could not make the car shut down and there were no codes. I don’t know about you but it’s very stressful when you are driving in heavy traffic on Interstate 4 near Orlando and your car shuts done for a few seconds. I read on the internet where other people are having similar issues. I think something needs to be done before there is a tragic accident because Range Rover acts like they don’t know what everyone is talking about.

  1. Barry Lesch 2025-11-18

    Vehicle year: 2015

I purchased the Evoque in a hurry as we were relocating to the mountains and I required a four-wheel drive. I regret not doing any research beforehand! Hopefully, my reviews will help someone else. We were fortunate enough to purchase the Evoque used with 20,000 miles and a 50,000-mile warranty. To cut a long story short, at 36,000 miles, we had to replace the front and rear brakes, a new battery, and then, just one week after bringing it home, we experienced the same gear box fault that another reviewer had mentioned. We had to have it towed! Fortunately, we were not in traffic like the other reviewer. Unfortunately, they informed us that they cannot get the part for a month, and we still do not have it back. I am truly shocked by the whole experience. I always thought Land Rover was a reputable brand, as I see them everywhere. If I ever get it back, I will be getting rid of it right away, of course, and at a significant loss!

  2. Elijah Halvorson 2025-11-16

    Vehicle year: 2023

The car is certainly beautiful, but unfortunately we have experienced a couple of major recalls within the past year. The first recall was due to the car shutting down unexpectedly while driving, which was quite concerning. The second recall was for a rattling noise under the hood. Additionally, we have encountered a new issue where there is no audio for GPS apps like Waze, Google, or Apple. We have been informed by corporate that this is a known issue for the past few months, and they are still working on a fix. Despite these challenges, we remain hopeful that a solution will be found soon.

  3. Kyle Auer 2025-11-13

    Vehicle year: 2020

The issues with this vehicle have been so severe that the dealership (LR Cleveland) has banned me from their premises as they were unable to provide adequate service. It is clear that this vehicle is not only unsafe to drive, but also experiencing significant wear and tear.

  4. Archibald Purdy 2025-11-08

    Vehicle year: 2015

Hey there! I'm excited to share my thoughts on our new 2015 Range Rover compared to our 2013 GLK 350. Both cars cost us about the same, but we wanted to try something new this time around. Let's start with the outside - we absolutely love the clean and stylish lines of the Range Rover, although we were a bit disappointed that it didn't come with roof racks. We had to purchase them separately for about $1400. In comparison, the GLK looks more like a family car. When it comes to the cargo door, it opens with the remote, but you have to push the button on the tailgate to close it. With the GLK, you can just use the remote to open or close it. Moving on to the interior, the cargo bay is a bit smaller than the GLK, but the driver's seat is still comfortable. However, the finish work inside is not as good as the GLK - the latter wins hands down. The steering wheel feels a bit off, but we're not sure why just yet. The sound system is not the best, so don't plan on rocking out while driving. The take off is good for a 4 banger, but the transmission shifts hard in and out of gear at times. The interior noise level is also louder than the GLK. The GLK has a nice wood finish while the Range Rover's is plastic. The backup camera could use some improvement - it's not the best. When it comes to the ride, the Range Rover is lacking compared to the GLK. If you hit a good size dip in the road, plan on losing your back molars - it feels more like a tank than a luxury rover. However, I'll update this after I take it off road. The Range Rover feels light and you feel more of the road, while the GLK is a much smoother ride. As for the navigation, it's a bit of a mixed bag. The GLK's navigation has no clue what I'm saying, and there have been more than one occasion where I wanted to tear it out of the car out of frustration. The Range Rover's map is tough to follow because it shows you going north, south, east or west, and you can get spun around looking at the map. Lastly, the controls on the steering wheel are not the best on the Range Rover. Hope this helps!Be careful not to push too hard on the volume or you may accidentally change the radio station, which can be frustrating since there is no mute button. Additionally, the back window can be tough to see out of and the lane assist is not very strong. However, the GLK's lane assist has saved my bacon more than once, unlike the rover which just blinks. While parking, the rover has sensors that let you know if you are too close in the front or rear, but the GLK does not have this feature. My wife actually backed into another car because of this. The Bluetooth for your phone can be a bit frustrating with the rover, as it takes a long time to get through the commands to make one call. On the other hand, with the GLK, you can just say a name and it makes the call. Despite these issues, we decided to try the new rover since I lease a new car every 30 months. However, after driving both side by side for two weeks, I will most likely go back to another GLK after this lease is up. It's a good thing this is my wife's car! After 11 months, I can say that the rover is very capable off-road, but the GPS still leaves something to be desired. It has taken me the long way or in the wrong direction completely on numerous occasions.Rover services informed me that they are unable to fix the issue. The rattles, which come and go, are driving me crazy. Despite taking it to the dealership for them to locate and fix the issue, it does not occur for them. Additionally, it consumes gas at an alarming rate. Although the body looks cool, I will be leasing another Mercedes-Benz once our lease is up. I believe that if they make some improvements, this SUV could be great. Sorry Rover, but you guys need to work on your finished product a little better. For the same price, I can get a better product. I hope this review helps others.

  5. Russell Beatty 2025-11-05

    Vehicle year: 2014

I recently traded in my 2013 Evoque, which had 74600 miles on it. I purchased it used in 2017 with 57200 miles on it. Although I loved the car, it required frequent repairs, with the turbo failing twice, costing $4100 each time to replace. Additionally, the alternator failed two weeks ago, which cost $1600 to fix. The infotainment system also had issues with glitching, requiring a software update that cost $160. It's important to do your research before purchasing one, or you may end up spending a lot of money on maintenance.

    Vehicle year: 2022

I recently test drove both the Volvo XC40 and the Evoque. While the XC40 sounded a bit tinny, the Evoque was impressively smooth and quiet. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the engine was not underpowered, and the transmission was responsive. Additionally, the interior and exterior of the Evoque look fantastic. While I have only driven it for 600 miles and cannot comment on reliability, I can say that driving it is a lot of fun!

  2. Scotty Anderson 2025-11-25

    Vehicle year: 2019

UPDATE TO REVIEW 6-5-17: Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my Evoque. Since the dealership completely rewired my car, I have not had any electronic issues. It took a while to get there, but the car now appears to be reliable. It continues to be a pleasure to drive now that it is working properly. I really love my Evoque! It's super comfortable and has so many hi-tech features that put this car in a class by itself. The high beams turn on and off by themselves when they sense a dark road, which is amazing! The connectivity to my iPhone is seamless and my music plays effortlessly through the radio. The rear window is small, but you get used to it right away. Overall, it's a great vehicle. However, I did have some issues with the build quality. My car came with a leak in the AC and spent 10 days in the shop. Then, the entire radio system went out. Got that fixed, too. Then, the map in the nav screen disappeared and it seemed that the car was incorrectly wired. When fixing that, we discovered that half the speakers were not connected. The sound was always terrible and suddenly it was like a symphony. Then the AC lost power (on a 110 degree day of course). More wiring issues. Kudos to my dealer who essentially rebuilt my car. Since then, it has worked like a dream but I have never had such a poorly built car. The factory in England where this vehicle is assembled should be ashamed of themselves. I suppose if yours is built right, you'll have a worry-free ownership experience but I was not so lucky. They do give you a Land Rover or Jaguar loaner so it could be worse, but I'd much prefer they learn how to build a better vehicle. In balance, I still love my Evoque, which says something considering my repair history. Thanks for listening!

My wife absolutely loves this car! We had been searching for a small SUV that still had an upscale feel and all the features, and the Evoque exceeded our expectations. In terms of design, panache, and overall package, it is hands down better than the Audi Q3/5 or the BMW X3/5. It's a great driving car and very easy to maneuver in tight spots around town.

I recently purchased my 2016 Range Rover Evoque Dynamic HSE and although it's still early days, I can't provide a solid review just yet. However, I spent several months researching, test driving Evoques, visiting dealerships, and gathering as much information as possible about Land Rover. As someone who is very particular about purchasing vehicles, I have experienced both good and bad vehicles in my 25+ years of driving. As a busy mother of three with a demanding professional career, I look for vehicles that are reliable, dependable, and will last me at least 10 years without any repair headaches. So far, I am very happy with my Range Rover Evoque and I hope it will continue to meet my high expectations for years to come. One thing to keep in mind if you're considering purchasing a Land Rover vehicle in the future is that extended warranties can be quite expensive. Land Rover vehicles are known to be costly to maintain and repairs can be expensive if required. If you're looking to purchase an extended warranty for a pre-owned vehicle, don't be surprised by the price tag of $5K+ depending on the year, make, model, current mileage, and projected yearly mileage. It's always wise to factor this expense into your purchase beforehand so you're not left with your mouth hanging open in shock.

Prestige, fully loaded, 4-door: This car is amazing! It manages to be playful, rugged and sexy all at the same time. When you're inside, it feels incredibly fresh and the cabin is so airy and roomy. It drives like a much sportier, smaller car which is just fantastic. I love that this car is informal and off-road ready, so it can take a beating, but it still oozes luxury and freshness.
