The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, also known as the Range Rover Evoque, is a subcompact luxury crossover SUV developed and produced by Jaguar Land Rover under their Land Rover marque. The original Evoque was a development of the Land Rover LRX concept vehicle, which was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in January 2008. The first generation Evoque was produced from July 2011 until 2018 in three and five-door versions, with both two-wheel and four-wheel drive. The second generation of the car went into production in 2018.

First generation (L538; 2011)

Development

The size of the LRX concept vehicle complemented a wide array of efficiency-improving technologies in the form of Land Rover's e_Terrain technologies. These included biofuel compatibility, lightweight construction materials, and technologies such as the removable carbon composite roof panels, regenerative brakes, a stop-start system, along with the ERAD (electric rear axle drive) parallel hybrid powertrain system.

ERAD system

The ERAD system could propel the LRX to speeds up to 20 mph (32 km/h) before the engine was started by an integrated starter generator as part of the stop-start system. ERAD was designed to reduce CO2 emissions by an average of 20% under the NEDC test cycle and was expected to offer another 10% reduction in extra-urban driving situations while also optimizing the off-road ability of the vehicle. Land Rover aimed to achieve 120 g/km CO2 emissions and fuel economy of 60 mpg‑imp (4.7 L/100 km; 50 mpg‑US) on the European combined cycle with an efficient 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine based on PSA DW12. The engine would become the only four-cylinder vehicle in the Range Rover lineup.

  • Summary: The the top of the windshield leaks. The windshield has actually pulled away from the body of the car and needs to be completely resealed. This is a well known and recall problem for 2015 to 2018 Land Rover Evokes. My Evoke is a 2019 thus dose not fall under the recall, yet its the same issue. There are many other people with this complaint which can be seen with a quick Google search on this issue. My dealership has straight out told me that my year is not in the recall, although same problem, its not a recall item because my year is not included in the recall. I am asking that you expand the current recall for leaking windshields form 2015 to 2022 (i say 2022 because on line, there seems to be an on going issue until 2022. Not to mention, this issue drastically diminishes the safety integrity of the vehicle roll over safety / security / strength. Thanks you.

  • Summary: . I leased the vehicle from the Suburban of Troy (Jaguar Troy-Land Rover Troy) at 1815 Maplelawn Troy, MI 48084 through Ally Financial on 6/30/22. On 7/29/22 and 8/15/22, I brought the vehicle into the Suburban Collection’s Service Center. I stated that when I remote started the vehicle from the app, I would start driving and a “Gearbox Fault” message would turn on for a day or so and would shut off. I provided the Service Advisor with my login credentials to troubleshoot the concern with my vehicle. Unfortunately, no resolution was made with regards to my vehicle and it was returned to me. This continued to occur. On 1/9/23 (with just over 6,500 miles), I again brought my vehicle into the service center. I started my vehicle using the mobile app while the auto start/stop function was enabled and drove the vehicle for a number of miles and upon entering a roundabout, the vehicle shifted itself into neutral during rush hour traffic. I could not switch out of neutral and had to restart the vehicle in the middle of rush hour and I could have been rear ended. This situation was horrifying. I reached out to four individuals via JLR corporate emails on 3/7/23, as I had not received any information from my service advisor regarding my vehicle. During that time, I was driving a loaner vehicle that did not have the same features and I was unable to start the vehicle remotely during that time. I received correspondence from an Executive Liaison, Jean Meyer on 3/8/23 after receiving my vehicle the day prior. It had been in the dealership’s possession at that time for 66 days and in total, my vehicle had been in their possession for 78 days. During that time, I was informed that the Service Advisor that I had worked with was eliminated because of his handling of my case. I was told that the Shop Foreman was working on my vehicle and that it had been escalated to an engineer that manufactures the transmission, but no one was able to find a resolution for my car switching into n

  • Summary: While driving on the interstate I released the cruise and slowed down when coming up on an 18 wheeler. When it was clear I began to change lanes to the left and tried to accelerate but the engine would not respond. About 5 or 6 seconds later it finally responded. This has happened about a dozen times at random. It has been in the dealers shop 6 times for this issue. The usually update the software and call it good but it keeps on happening. I had it in the shop this past January 2021 and a tech from Range Rover worked on it for about 1 1/2 weeks upgrading the software and said it was fixed. It happened 2 times since then so back to the shop I went. They returned the car on the 4th day stating they could not make the car shut down and there were no codes. I don’t know about you but it’s very stressful when you are driving in heavy traffic on Interstate 4 near Orlando and your car shuts done for a few seconds. I read on the internet where other people are having similar issues. I think something needs to be done before there is a tragic accident because Range Rover acts like they don’t know what everyone is talking about.

Latest negative Land rover Range rover evoque car reviews

  1. Elmo Hill 2025-04-19

    Vehicle year: 2019

The car has been in the dealer for a considerable amount of time, which is quite frustrating. However, I am confident in my knowledge of the car and its maintenance, and I was able to successfully navigate the situation with the help of a lawyer. The engine was replaced under full warranty, and Land Rover corporate covered the cost of the repairs. I am satisfied with the outcome and appreciate the support of my legal team.

  2. Ethel Zboncak 2025-04-18

    Vehicle year: 2016

This car has had some issues with its electrical system and navigation, and has unfortunately caused some inconvenience. However, the customer service experience has not been ideal either. It can take some time to get an appointment and the wait times can be long. It's important to note that there have been some positive experiences with the car as well. We encourage potential buyers to do their research and make an informed decision based on their needs and preferences.

  3. Alvis Hackett 2025-04-17

    Vehicle year: 2021

(1st) The Auto-Stop/Start technology automatically shuts off the engine when the vehicle comes to a full stop and starts it again. However, it makes a car ignition sound on every stop, which can be quite annoying. Unfortunately, it is not possible to turn off this feature by default. (2nd) Some of the electrical responses are slow, such as the initial app opening, adaptive cruise control, and parking mode sensor, and there are connection issues with Android Auto. Additionally, the radio turns on automatically after Android Auto is stopped. (3rd) I was disappointed to learn that the garage door opener was an optional feature, as no one had informed me of this. When I contacted Landrover about the missed homelink, they informed me that this option is not available for my model. Overall, I am not feeling very safe with this vehicle and would like to return it if possible.

  4. Rowan Tromp 2025-04-16

    Vehicle year: 2018

The vehicle has only been driven for 4500 miles in the 10 months since purchase. However, my wife does not feel comfortable transporting our grandchildren to nursery school in it. She finds the 'remote start' feature inconvenient as it only works through an iPhone app and has a low reliability rate of 25%. Additionally, the climate control does not turn on when the vehicle starts, making it uncomfortable on hot or cold days. A premium 'cloth' seat package would be a helpful addition. The seat belts are difficult to reach and the metal strip along the dashboard reflects sun into the eyes of the front passenger. The tires need to be refilled every 60 days and the wheels are easily damaged due to a poor choice of tires. The wheels also collect snow/ice and cause an unsafe 'bounce' at 25 mph. The lift gate is not secure and shopping packages and contents may fall out. The brakes are making a medium-pitched 'howl' sound. The value of the 2017 Land Rover Evoque has dropped significantly after only 4480 miles on the odometer. I have been in contact with Land Rover Corporate and their customer care representative has been wonderful and persistent in resolving the issues. I am hopeful for a proper response from Land Rover and appreciate their efforts to address my concerns.A total of 15 months passed before I received a call from the General Manager at the Land Rover dealership. We had a brief discussion to confirm my dissatisfaction and the unresolved problems with the 2017 Evoque vehicle. Two weeks later, a refund check was issued, which was reasonable, less a prorated use cost. I turned the vehicle back to the dealer and received the check. The whole experience has now come to an end.

  5. Gregory Hoppe 2025-04-12

    Vehicle year: 2022

My wife and I recently purchased this SUV, as it was something she had her heart set on. While I personally preferred the Kia Telluride, which we test drove and found to have superior quality, ride, electronics, comfort, and room, my wife's preference for this brand won out. We do have some concerns about its reliability, as past models have not been rated highly in this regard. I would recommend test driving other SUVs before making a final decision, as we found this one to be overpriced and mediocre. However, ultimately the decision is yours and we wish you the best of luck in finding the perfect SUV for your needs!

  1. Zack Kilback 2025-04-12

    Vehicle year: 2015

This is an excellent SUV, but it's important to know what you're buying. It's not a large car and, like all Land Rover vehicles I've had before, it has quirks. However, the interior finish and quality are very refined, with a nice use of leather and other materials. The exterior styling is better than any other SUV on the road. The tires have Porsche-like grip and the braking is excellent, with better gas mileage than any Range Rover before. The car feels like it's supercharged! However, there are a few negatives to consider. The new flashy plastic panels used on the exterior are prone to scratching very easily and should be tougher. Even the car wash scratches them without the use of brushes. The leather doesn't look like it will hold up like previous Range Rovers, and the car needs a bigger cargo area. Options can add up quickly, so it's important to keep an eye on the price. The SUV should come in under 49k with options in the next generation, as without doing so really makes the value proposition hard to support. Note that the car should be broken in so that it is reliable. You can't drive too aggressively for the first 1500 miles, as the brakes and engine won't be smooth.

I was considering purchasing a BMW X3 or 5, an Audi G3 or 5, or possibly a Tiguan. However, a friend recommended that I take a look at the new Evoque. After taking it for a test drive, I was sold. The interior fit and finish are great, and the two touch screens are a fantastic feature. You have complete control of vehicle dynamics, including start-stop in Eco mode. If you don't want it, you can turn it off. The Evoque also has a nifty garage door opener in the rearview mirror, along with a new killer feature of simply clicking the knob on the mirror to get real-time video from behind the car at all times! I had a laugh when the LR dealer told me that they had been installing the self-parking feature for about 5 years now in various models, while the BMW guy claimed that their self-parking feature was new and cutting edge. This was one of the reasons why I chose the Evoque. The engine and transmission are very smooth and have lots of pep, making it a real joy to drive. It feels like it is part of the highway, handling very well. The Evoque also sounds and feels much more solid than either of the German products, which sounded rather

From my experience and from what I've read in reviews, I would highly recommend purchasing this car used from a private party or as a certified pre-owned from a dealership. The Range Rover Evoque is a stunning car that gets a lot of attention, and for good reason - it looks just as amazing on the inside as it does on the outside. In addition to its stylish design, the car has predictably good road manners in all conditions, including snow. Overall, the Range Rover Evoque is a comfortable, reliable, and well-appointed road machine that offers a fun driving experience. I have personally had no issues with mine to date, so I give it two thumbs up!

The car looks great and is well-styled. It's good on gas, peppy, and does what I need it to, but it has had a couple of issues. The windshield started leaking, but it was fixed/replaced under warranty. The car is hard on brakes, and the front hood doesn't want to close in cold weather (and the car won't start if the hood is ajar), which turned out to be the latch sending unit. It can be tough to find/buy aftermarket parts (wheels, tires, wipers, etc.), and OEM upgrades are pricey. For example, nice black wheels cost $3400. Even with these minor issues, I decided (with only 70K) to buy the car out and keep it. It's the first car/truck out of 9 leases that I've ever done that with. In fact, I was looking forward to the lease end so I could do some upgrades, including tires, rims, paint, larger turbo, etc. In my opinion, RR is still a good vehicle. Has the quality come down since being bought out by Tata? Yes! I think they should get back to basics and lay off the constant style upgrades and start looking at the reliability and quality control factors. RR used to be a great reliable vehicle, and hopefully, it will get better before it gets worse.
