Common Land rover Discovery ii problems

Common Problems with Land Rover Discovery II Cars: A Comprehensive Analysis

The Land Rover Discovery II, a popular choice for those seeking a versatile and capable off-road vehicle, has been subject to various issues and complaints from its owners. This article aims to explore these problems in detail, drawing on the experiences and insights of those who have owned and operated these vehicles.

  1. Electrical Issues: One of the most common problems reported by Land Rover Discovery II owners is electrical issues. These issues can range from minor inconveniences, such as malfunctioning interior lights, to more significant problems, like malfunctioning engine management systems and faulty electrical wiring. These problems can lead to a range of issues, from difficulty starting the vehicle to stalling while driving.
  2. Air Suspension Failure: Another common problem with the Land Rover Discovery II is air suspension failure. The air suspension system is designed to provide a smooth and comfortable ride, but it can be prone to failure, particularly in older vehicles. This can result in a loss of ride height and a reduction in the vehicle's overall handling and stability.
  3. Transmission Issues: Transmission issues are also a common problem with the Land Rover Discovery II. These issues can include difficulty shifting gears, slipping, and even complete transmission failure. These problems can be caused by a range of factors, including worn-out clutch components, damaged gears, and low transmission fluid levels.
  4. Engine Problems: Engine problems are another common issue with the Land Rover Discovery II. These problems can include issues with the engine's fuel injection system, as well as problems with the engine's cooling system. These problems can lead to a range of issues, from reduced engine performance to complete engine failure.
  5. Body Rust: Body rust is a common problem with the Land Rover Discovery II, particularly in vehicles that have been used in areas with high levels of road salt or moisture. This can lead to a range of issues, from cosmetic damage to structural damage, which can impact the vehicle's overall safety and stability.
  6. Interior Wear and Tear: The interior of the Land Rover Discovery II can also be subject to wear and tear, particularly in vehicles that have been heavily used or driven in harsh conditions. This can include issues with the vehicle's upholstery, as well as problems with the vehicle's dashboard and controls.
  7. Exhaust System Failure: Exhaust system failure is another common problem with the Land Rover Discovery II. This can be caused by a range of factors, including damaged exhaust components, corrosion, and worn-out gaskets. These problems can lead to a range of issues, from reduced engine performance to complete exhaust system failure.
  8. Braking System Issues: Braking system issues are also a common problem with the Land Rover Discovery II. These issues can include problems with the vehicle's brake pads, rotors, and calipers, as well as issues with the vehicle's brake lines and master cylinder. These problems can lead to a range of issues, from reduced braking performance to complete brake failure.

In conclusion, the Land Rover Discovery II is a capable and versatile off-road vehicle, but it is not without its issues and problems. From electrical issues and air suspension failure to engine problems and body rust, these vehicles can be subject to a range of issues that can impact their overall performance, safety, and reliability. By understanding these common problems, Land Rover Discovery II owners can take steps to maintain their vehicles and address these issues as they arise, ensuring that their vehicles remain safe, reliable, and capable for years to come.

Land rover Discovery ii

What is the most common problem with the Discovery 2?

The usual problem is that the air springs wear out (look for perishing rubber on the crease in the bag) and leak air. If they continue to leak air this can put the compressor under strain which can then fail.

Is a Discovery 2 reliable?

I'd say that if you find a good Discovery 2, hang on to it. Its body doesn't rot like the Disco 1's does, while it has fewer electrical problems than later generations. I have one, my son has one and one of my technicians has one. Believe me, we wouldn't if they were unreliable.

How many miles will a Land Rover Discovery 2 last?

What is Land Rover Discovery lifespan? The estimated lifespan of a Land Rover Discovery is 296,000mi, before reaching the life expectancy upper limit. Fuel type is a major factor when looking into a vehicles lifespan/life expectancy.

Are Land Rover discoveries expensive to fix?

A Land Rover Discovery will cost about $16,485 for maintenance and repairs during its first 10 years of service.

Land rover Discovery ii 2000
  • Date Of Incident: 2019-04-08
  • Date Complaint: 2019-07-26
  • VIN: SALTY1246YA
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE IS RUSTING OUT. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF THESE TRUCKS ON THE ROAD WITH THIS ISSUE. LAND ROVER USED INFERIOR METALS AND RUST PROTECTION. THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE IN A CRASH IS SEVERELY COMPROMISED.

  • Date Of Incident: 2016-09-01
  • Date Complaint: 2016-10-15
  • VIN: SALTY1240XA
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: MY 1999 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 2 DEVELOPED A FUEL LEAK ON THE TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP CLOSE TO THE OUTLET WHERE THE FUEL FLOW MAKES A 90 DEGREE TURN BEFORE EXITING THE FUEL PUMP. I NOTICED THE SMELL OF FUEL (GASOLINE ) AROUND THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WHILE PARKED. BUT I HAD RECENTLY FILLED UP THE TANK AND THOUGHT IT WAS JUST SOME SPILLAGE FROM THE FILL UP. I KEPT SMELLING THE FUMES FOR SEVERAL MONTHS BEFORE I FINALLY WATCHED A YOUTUBE VIDEO SHOWING HOW TO REPAIR A FUEL PUMP ON MY VEHICLE , WHEN I CUT THE CARPET TO EXPOSE THE COVER PLATE AND REMOVED THE COVER PLATE I NOTICED A POOL OF GASOLINE SITTING INSIDE THE ROUND PART IN THE CENTER OF THE TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP. I STOPPED DRIVING OTHER PEOPLE AROUND IN MY LAND ROVER BECAUSE OF THE POSSIBILITY OF IGNITION , THE GAS TANK ITSELF WAS COVERED WITH GASOLINE RESIDUE THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS FUEL PUMP THAT MAY KILL THE OCCUPANTS OF THIS VEHICLE WERE IT TO IGNITE FOR SOME REASON. I THINK THIS FUEL PUMP SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REDESIGNED TO ADD STRENGTH TO THE TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP. A FEW MORE CENTS WORTH OF PLASTIC WOULD SOLVE THIS ISSUE BUT THIS MANUFACTURER IS MOST LIKELY LOOKING AT THE RESALE VALUE OF THESE PARTS AS ARE ALL MANUFACTURERS TODAY. I BOUGHT THIS LAND ROVER THINKING THAT IT WOULD BE A STURDY VEHICLE TO DRIVE AND TO FEEL SAFER DRIVING , ESPECIALLY WHILE DRIVING MY CHILD AROUND IN IT. ALSO THESE FUEL PUMPS COST WAY TOO MUCH COMPARED TO OTHER ALMOST IDENTICAL FUEL PUMPS MADE BY THE SAME MANUFACTURER AND THAT IS WHY I HAVEN'T ALREADY FIXED IT MYSELF.
