Land rover Lr3 2005 problems
The Land Rover Discovery is a series of seven-seater family SUVs, produced under the Land Rover marque, from the British manufacturer Land Rover, and later Jaguar Land Rover. The series is currently in its fifth iteration (or generation, according to the manufacturer), the first of which was introduced in 1989, making the Discovery the first new model series since the launch of the 1970 Range Rover – on which it was based – and only the third new product line since the conception of the Land Rover (vehicle and brand) by Rover in 1948. The model is sometimes called influential, as one of the first to market a true off-road capable family car.
Although the Range Rover had originally been designed as an everyday four wheel drive car that could be used as both a utility vehicle and a family car, it had progressively moved upmarket through its life to evolve into a luxury vehicle sold at a much higher price point. The Discovery was intended to fulfill the role the Range Rover originally was intended for; a segment which was now dominated by Japanese rivals such as the Nissan Patrol, Mitsubishi Pajero and Toyota Land Cruiser. Although positioned below the Range Rover in the company's line-up, the vehicle was both longer and higher, offered more room in the back, and optionally also more seats. Space utilization became more sophisticated in later iterations, but the series keeps offering seats for seven occupants. Despite originally being sold as an affordable alternative to the Range Rover, the Discovery has also progressively moved upmarket through its successive generations to become a bonafide luxury SUV.
The second Discovery (1998) was called the Series II, and though featuring an extended rear body, was otherwise an updated facelift, which carried on the 100 in (2,540 mm) wheelbase frame and rigid, live front and rear axles of the original Range Rover into 2004.
The third iteration – succeeding the series I and II in 2004 - was either titled the Discovery 3 or simply LR3 (in North America and the Middle East). This was the first all-original design for the Discovery. Although it followed the 2002 third generation Range Rover, also switching to fully independent suspension, it still received a separate, but integrated body and frame (IBF) structure. The fourth iteration, as of 2009 – like the series II, was again mainly an update of the new generation – marketed as the Discovery 4, or Land Rover LR4 for North American and Middle Eastern markets.
The fifth iteration of the Discovery, introduced in 2017, no longer sports a numeric suffix. Unlike the previous two generations, it now benefits from a unitized body structure, making it lighter than its predecessor.

Common Land rover Lr3 2005 problems
The 2005 Land Rover LR3 has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to the transmission, suspension, and fuel system.
- Suspension Issues: The Land Rover LR3 has been reported to have suspension issues due to faulty vehicle height sensors. These sensors can cause the vehicle to lean excessively, leading to a decrease in handling and stability. This problem can be caused by a faulty air suspension compressor or leaking air suspension valve blocks. Replacing the faulty components can be a costly repair, with the air suspension compressor alone costing up to $1,500.
- Fuel System Problems: The 2005 Land Rover LR3 has been reported to have issues with its fuel system, primarily related to the fuel injectors. The fuel injectors on this V8 are extremely sensitive to clogging up, and it is recommended to clean them regularly. Land Rover has issued a technical service bulletin on regular cleaning of these fuel injectors. Fuel injector rail cleaning is necessary to ensure the longevity of the fuel system. If not addressed, this issue can lead to poor engine performance and decreased fuel efficiency .
- Airbag Wiring Defect: The 2005 Land Rover LR3 has a defective airbag wiring issue, which can sustain damage from the steering wheel and column mechanism. This issue may cause the airbag to fail to deploy in the event of a collision. Airbag wiring damage can trigger the SUV’s SRS warning light, indicating that the airbag requires immediate repair. A recall was issued, which also included other Land Rover models. Affected vehicles must be inspected as soon as possible for preventive measures and necessary repairs.
- Steering Column Issues: The 2005 Land Rover LR3 has been reported to have steering column issues, which can cause the vehicle to roll away even if the transmission lever hasn’t been moved to the park mode previously. This problem can be solved during a software update of the ECU, which was issued as a recall for the affected 2005 and 2006 models.
In conclusion, the 2005 Land Rover LR3 has several common problems related to the transmission, suspension, fuel system, airbag wiring, and steering column. These issues can be costly to repair and may affect the safety and reliability of the vehicle. Therefore, potential buyers should be aware of these problems and consider them before purchasing a 2005 Land Rover LR3.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-11-20
- VIN: SALAA25455A
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: SINCE PURCHASING MY SECOND HAND 2005 LAND ROVER LR3 IN 2013, I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM. I EXPERIENCE DRIVABILITY CONCERNS SUCH AS HESITATION, MISFIRE, STALLING, ROUGH RUNNING, AND DIFFICULTY IN STARTING, AND THE 'CHECK ENGINE' LIGHT IS ALMOST ALWAYS ILLUMINATED. I HAVE BEEN CONCERNED ABOUT THESE ISSUES, AND HAVE SPENT A LOT OF MONEY CHASING THE PROBLEM BY REPLACING EQUIPMENT AND SPENDING A LOT OF TIME IN DOING SO. THE IDENTIFICATION OF THIS ISSUE BEING A RECALL ISSUE FOR 17263 OTHER LAND ROVERS LR3 (NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID 05V376000) NOT DISCOVERED UNTIL I WAS RESEARCHING THE VALUE OF MY VEHICLE IN ORDER TO SELL IT. WHILE ON THE KELLY BLUE BOOK WEBSITE, I WAS ALERTED THERE WERE 2 RECALLS FOR 2005 LAND ROVER LR3. AFTER READING THE FIRST RECALL DESCRIPTION, I REALIZED THAT I HAVE HAD THE IDENTICAL ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE. HOWEVER, AFTER INPUTTING MY VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER, THE SITE STATED THAT MY VEHICLE VIN WAS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECALL. I FOUND THIS TO BE VERY DISCONCERTING, AS I HAVE THE IDENTICAL ISSUE. I THEN CALLED LAND ROVER TO SPEAK DIRECTLY TO THE MANUFACTURER. I WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. I STATED THAT SAFETY RECALLS WERE NOT ASSOCIATED WITH WARRANTIES. I WAS THEN ASKED FOR, AND PROVIDED MY VIN. THE REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AND I HAD NO RECOURSE. I ASKED HIM, GIVEN THAT OVER 17,000 2005 LAND ROVER LR3 HAD BEEN RECALLED DUE TO THE EXACT SAME ISSUE, WHAT WERE THE ODDS OF MINE HAVING THE SAME PIECE OF FAULTY EQUIPMENT. HE AGAIN STATED THAT SINCE MY VIN WAS NOT LISTED, IT WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL, AND I HAVE NO RECOURSE. HE THEN DISMISSED ME AND HUNG UP. MY WIFE HAD THE STALL ISSUE OCCUR THIS MORNING ON HER DRIVE TO WORK AT 06:30 AM!

LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2007-04-19
- VIN: SALAA25475A
- Components: LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES
- Summary: PLEASE MAKE FORMAL NOTE THAT THE 2005 LAND ROVER LR-3 I PURCHASED NEW IN 2005 (VIN # BELOW) FROM THE DEALER AT LAND ROVER NORTH SCOTTSDALE HAS AN ENDEMIC AND SYSTEMATIC DOOR LOCK SAFETY FAULT PROBLEM. SINCE MY PURCHASE OF MY LR-3 I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE PASSENGER DOOR [2 TIMES], REAR PASSENGER DOOR, REAR DRIVER DOOR, AND NOW THE DRIVER DOOR LOCK HAS FAILED. THESE DOORS FAIL TO LOCK WHEN ENGAGED. THEY CLICK AS IF LOCKING, BUT ARE OPEN IF HANDLE IS PULLED WITH MINIMAL FORCE FROM INSIDE OR OUT. THIS HAS PROVEN A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN PASSENGERS ARE INSIDE AND ASSUME THE DOORS ARE LOCKED, OR WHEN A CHILD IS INSIDE AND THE DRIVER ASSUMES CHILD LOCKS, AND OR LOCKS ARE ENGAGED AND THEY ACTUALLY ARE NOT CAUSING A RISK OF FALL OR DEATH FROM THE VEHICLE. FURTHER, WE BECAME AWARE OF THE FINAL OF 4 DOOR LOCK FAILURES WHEN AN UNINVITED PANHANDLER PULLED THE "LOCKED" DRIVER DOOR OPEN. LUCKILY NO INCIDENT OR INJURIES WERE OCCURRED. NONE THE LESS THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE WHEN ALL 4 DOORS FAIL. I HAVE A FRIEND WITH A 2008 LR-3 AND THE SAME HAS HAPPENED TO 2 OF HIS DOORS. THIS HAS BEEN A MAJOR, MAJOR EXPENSE TO REPAIR THESE LOCKS YET LAND ROVER HAS FAILED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT A PROBLEM EVER EXISTED. STATISTICALLY SPEAKING 4 OUT OF 4 DOORS IS A 100% FAILURE RATE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE IMMEDIATELY, AND CHECK FOR ANY DEATHS OR HARM THAT MAY HAVE OCCURRED DUE TO LAND ROVERS FAILURE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR FAULTY LOCK SYSTEM IN THESE VEHICLES. I HAVE RECORDS SHOWING ALL THE REPLACEMENTS AND WOULD BE HAPPY TO TESTIFY AND PROVIDE DOCUMENTATION. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
SUSPENSION,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2013-08-24
- VIN: SALAE25475A
- Components: SUSPENSION,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS FROM EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR TO CRUISE CONTROL NOT SHUTTING OFF WHEN DEPRESSING THE CONTROL BUTTON ON THE STEERING WHEEL. NOW THERE IS A EXCESSIVE WATER LEAK THAT HAS CAUSED ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS SUCH AS PARKING BRAKE MALFUNCTION, WINDSHIELD WASHER TO FAIL, NUMEROUS WARNING LIGHTS COMING ON. THIS ALL CAUSES ME TO NOT USE THE VEHICLE, UNTIL IT DRIES OUT, FOR FEAR THAT THE LEAK FROM THE SUNROOF WILL CAUSE ELECTRICAL FAILURE WHILE DRIVING. ALSO THE WIRING IS PROBABLY BECOMING VERY CORRODED AND COULD SHORT OUT CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CATCH FIRE. DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD OF THIS VEHICLE IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO GET LAND ROVER NORTH AMERICA TO ACKNOWLEDGE ANY OF THESE PROBLEMS OTHER THAN THEY WERE UNIQUE TO THIS VEHICLE. *JB

To begin with, I am absolutely thrilled to share my experience with the fantastic new LR3. As someone who has owned three old Discoveries, I can confidently say that the LR3 is a major upgrade in every way. From the ride and handling to the dynamic looks and attention to detail, everything about this vehicle is top-notch. I even test drove the Range Rover and found the LR3 to be the clear winner. I truly believe that the designers and engineers behind the LR3 deserve the highest praise for bringing such an exceptional vehicle to market.

Our Land Rover rides better than our 2003 E Mercedes. While we considered the Lexus GX, we found it too showy for the beach and surfing. Despite the upcoming release of the 2006 Mercedes, we have lost faith in the brand due to the frequent dealership visits for our E model.
-
I was initially skeptical despite all the hype, but after taking it for a test drive, my doubts were quickly dispelled. The salesman took us for a spin on the dealership's test track, which was rocky and narrow with tight, steep off-camber turns. To my surprise, my wife was thrilled and wanted to go again! Once I got behind the wheel, I was immediately struck by the comfort and smooth ride, reminiscent of a large luxury sedan. I was so impressed that I decided to buy it on the spot. I couldn't wait to take it off-road and quickly racked up the 'break-in' miles in just a couple of days. In my opinion, nothing compares to the off-road performance of an LR3. I highly recommend it!
-
As a long-time owner of two GM Yukon Denalis and a previous Tahoe owner, I conducted extensive research and found that, in terms of value for money, the LR3 is the best luxury SUV on the market today! And it has certainly not disappointed me.

Just picked the truck up on Monday. Put 300 miles on it in two days. Rides great and turns heads. I had the dealer install cross bars for the roof rack, but unfortunately, they caused some wind noise that was quite troublesome. The dealer recommended moving the crossbars further back on the roof, but unfortunately, it didn't help. Finally, I decided to pull them off tonight and the noise is gone! I'll keep you all posted.

I really want to like my LR3. However, it has been quite a challenge. I have had to replace the transmission, alternator, and battery due to some unexpected issues. Additionally, there was a water leak that needed to be fixed. Unfortunately, I am still experiencing some water leaks from various places. Despite these challenges, I am hopeful that I can find a solution and enjoy my LR3 to the fullest.
