Land rover Discovery sport problems
The Land Rover Discovery Sport (internal code L550) is a compact luxury crossover SUV produced by British automotive company Jaguar Land Rover since 2014, under their Land Rover marque, and since 2017 their best-selling model.
Introduced in late 2014, it replaces the Freelander in a revised Land Rover range of vehicles, with Discovery joining Range Rover as a sub-brand. Contrary to its predecessor, the slightly larger car is also available in a seven seat layout.
The pre-facelift Discovery Sport is based on the JLR D8/LR-MS platform, customised for off-road applications, and is powered by a range of four cylinder petrol and diesel engines. It is the first Discovery introduced with a unibody structure.
Land Rover described the facelifted Discovery Sport as being based on the JLR PTA platform, a rebrand of the D8. It is also used by the Jaguar E-Pace and L551 version of Range Rover Evoque.

- Fire: 1
- VIN: SALCP2FX9LH
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: I drive a 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport, which was serviced over three months. The certified dealership replaced the head gasket, fuel injectors, cylinder heads, and starter engines. The car was less than three years old and had never had any issues before service. The car had a sweet burning odor and very rough gear shifts post-service. Two days before the fire, the check engine light came on within the car. The dealership repeatedly assured me that the vehicle was safe to drive and the symptoms I experienced were normal. As soon as I pulled into my house from the doctor (less than an hour after I called the dealership to speak about the check engine light), I noticed a thin white smoke coming from my engine. I popped the hood, contacted the dealership, and they told me to watch it to see if it stopped smoking. I thought it was overheating. The engine erupted into flames, and the vehicle was almost a total loss. After researching the car, the Land Rover model seems to have had electrical elements recalled along with issues similar to the coolant system. My insurance agency has launched a fire investigation in an attempt to recreate the cause of the fire. Evidence is attached below.

Vehicle year: 2017
I recently got a loaner car with only 700 miles on the odometer and have driven it for less than a month, covering under 1000 miles. So far, I am really enjoying the car. I opted for the SE model with the Climate package, Navigation, and 11 speaker upgrade, and was pleasantly surprised to get the 19-inch alloy wheels at no extra cost. There are many things to like about this car, including its excellent handling, great all-around visibility, and the best side mirrors I have ever had. The seats feel firm and comfortable, and the interior feels spacious and luxurious. I drive 16 miles each way to work, with 8 miles on the highway and 8 miles on local roads, and I am getting an impressive 30-34 MPG combined without A/C, 27-30 MPG with A/C, and 25-28 MPG with a family of four and A/C running. The engine is very smooth, except when accelerating suddenly. The radio and speakers are fantastic at higher volumes and with HD stations. There are a few things that I don't like, such as the rear hatch feeling a bit flimsy, the panel below the glass squeaking a bit, and the lack of a CD player. The radio is just okay at lower volumes, and the ride is a little truck-like. Overall, I would suggest getting the higher trim level HSE to get many of the fancy features, as the SE does not come with front fog lights. In an update from February 2020, I have had the car for three and a half years and driven it for 50,000 miles, and it has been trouble-free. I needed new brakes at around 35,000 miles and tires at 48,000 miles, but it still drives like new with no squeaks or rattles. The service costs are a little higher than normal, with my dealer currently charging $650 for a 10,000-mile service, but other than that cost, I have no complaints. In another update from February 2022, the car now has about 70,000 miles and has been completely trouble-free. I have replaced the halogen headlights with LED headlights for the same cost as halogen replacements, which has improved visibility on rural roads. The car runs like a champ!

The first sport utility vehicle we purchased had a smooth ride and all the features we needed while driving, so we decided to invest in a second one. Both vehicles were built with great engineering integrity, providing a solid and amazing driving experience compared to other SUVs we have owned in the past. We have found the fuel economy to be sufficient for our needs, and have noticed no difference from comparable SUVs we have previously owned. The four-wheel drive and 9-speed transmission provide stable acceleration and shifting in all weather conditions.

I recently test drove both the Evoque and the new 2015 Discovery and found them to be quite similar, especially in terms of engine and transmission. However, I preferred the taller rear window and cargo area of the Discovery over the Evoque. During my first test drive, I was not impressed with the car's acceleration, but after about 30 minutes, I noticed that the vehicle responded well to my lead-foot antics. At the end of the test drive, I realized that the Discovery was a great value for a Land Rover family vehicle, and I ultimately purchased the Discovery HSE Sport. According to the Land Rover Service Manager, the vehicle is equipped with an

Your vehicle is surprisingly agile and unsurprisingly resilient. It performs great in the snow and sand, and I have never gotten stuck even when my friend's Jeep Cherokee did. In the 3 years and 3 months that I have owned it, I have never had an issue with it. I am not sure why consumer reports knock it down.

I never thought I would be driving a Discovery Sport, until I actually got behind the wheel of one. When I went to Land Rover, I had intended to test drive the Evoque, but as soon as I saw the white and black Discovery Sport, I was sold. Despite hearing about some issues with the Discovery, I found that none of the complaints were true. I experienced no trouble with acceleration or rough starts, and any questions or concerns I had were promptly addressed by the salesperson. During the test drive, which lasted over 2 hours in the pouring rain, I was impressed by the vehicle's incredible response to the road. I wanted to see how it would perform in bad weather, and it did not disappoint. I am absolutely thrilled with my Discovery Sport.

I have been to the dealer many times, and unfortunately, I have had a few issues with my vehicle. After four months, the check engine light came on, and I had to replace the injectors and the black plastic on top of the license plate due to a squeaky noise. Around eight months later, the engine overheated when I was sitting in traffic, and I had to replace the cooling fan. Additionally, water got into the driver's rear marker light, and I had to replace it. The check engine light also came on randomly, but thankfully, the software was updated, and the problem was solved. On the 11th month, the rear passenger seats and plastic on the A pillar started making a squeaky noise, but the parts are being ordered and will be replaced in a few weeks. The driver's seat is not very comfortable, so I had to get an aftermarket seat cushion. I have driven this vehicle in all types of road and weather conditions for about a year now, and I have noticed a great amount of road noise in the cabin, as well as huge turbo lag and poor acceleration. However, there are a few pros to this vehicle, such as its good exterior design, and the heated/cooling seats work great. Additionally, there is a huge panoramic sunroof that I really enjoy.

The dealership's repeated attempts to repair the car were unsuccessful, despite keeping it for 4-5 months. It is concerning that they had over 60 loaner vehicles, which should have raised a red flag. The dealership's solution of repeatedly replacing the backup camera did not address the root cause of the problem, which was the entire electrical system shutting off. When I asked if they had tested the cameras they removed, they were unable to provide a satisfactory answer. The dealership had to wait for a technical adviser from headquarters to provide guidance, which is not reassuring. The dealership blamed us for the battery error signals, but this was not accurate as we were not driving short distances. After two weeks, they finally decided to change the battery. It is important to be aware of the Lemon Law if you are in California.

I bought this car for my wife, hoping it would be a great vehicle, given that it's a Land Rover. Unfortunately, it hasn't lived up to our expectations. It's quite an expensive car for what it offers. We've had some issues with the air conditioner, which started presenting problems with just 2K miles on the odometer. We took it to the shop and it took 3 days to fix. Unfortunately, the same problem occurred again at 4K miles, and we had to take it back to the shop for another 3 days. The same thing happened again at 6K miles, which was very frustrating. However, we haven't had any problems since then, and the car has now reached 8K miles. The motor is a bit weak, and the gear change is slow. The entertainment interface could be improved, and the trunk space is quite small. The 3rd row seats are cramped, so we don't use them. The safety sensors surrounding the car go off all the time, even when there's nothing close to the car. Overall, we feel that this car needs a major makeover to be worth the money. There are much better options out there for this price range. We can't wait for the lease to end so that we can move on to something else.
