Land rover Lr4 problems

The Land Rover Discovery is a series of seven-seater family SUVs, produced under the Land Rover marque, from the British manufacturer Land Rover, and later Jaguar Land Rover. The series is currently in its fifth iteration (or generation, according to the manufacturer), the first of which was introduced in 1989, making the Discovery the first new model series since the launch of the 1970 Range Rover – on which it was based – and only the third new product line since the conception of the Land Rover (vehicle and brand) by Rover in 1948. The model is sometimes called influential, as one of the first to market a true off-road capable family car.
Although the Range Rover had originally been designed as an everyday four wheel drive car that could be used as both a utility vehicle and a family car, it had progressively moved upmarket through its life to evolve into a luxury vehicle sold at a much higher price point. The Discovery was intended to fulfill the role the Range Rover originally was intended for; a segment which was now dominated by Japanese rivals such as the Nissan Patrol, Mitsubishi Pajero and Toyota Land Cruiser. Although positioned below the Range Rover in the company's line-up, the vehicle was both longer and higher, offered more room in the back, and optionally also more seats. Space utilization became more sophisticated in later iterations, but the series keeps offering seats for seven occupants. Despite originally being sold as an affordable alternative to the Range Rover, the Discovery has also progressively moved upmarket through its successive generations to become a bonafide luxury SUV.
The second Discovery (1998) was called the Series II, and though featuring an extended rear body, was otherwise an updated facelift, which carried on the 100 in (2,540 mm) wheelbase frame and rigid, live front and rear axles of the original Range Rover into 2004.
The third iteration – succeeding the series I and II in 2004 - was either titled the Discovery 3 or simply LR3 (in North America and the Middle East). This was the first all-original design for the Discovery. Although it followed the 2002 third generation Range Rover, also switching to fully independent suspension, it still received a separate, but integrated body and frame (IBF) structure. The fourth iteration, as of 2009 – like the series II, was again mainly an update of the new generation – marketed as the Discovery 4, or Land Rover LR4 for North American and Middle Eastern markets.
The fifth iteration of the Discovery, introduced in 2017, no longer sports a numeric suffix. Unlike the previous two generations, it now benefits from a unitized body structure, making it lighter than its predecessor.

- Summary: When I was driving this car, I smelled gasoline very badly, so suddenly the car slammed, and then the car broke down, and there was a lot of white gas or smoke under the hood, I couldn't be sure, so I called The fire alarm was dealt with, then I towed the vehicle to the dealer, contacted my insurance, and the dealer told me there was a recall, but my engine was dead and it wasn't covered by their warranty, but I checked the recall , the reason for the recall may be that the fuel gauge cannot display accurate fuel pressure, which causes the engine to run at high temperature, and the oil cannot cool down, which eventually causes the oil pump body to burst and cause the engine to break down. If I did not contact the fire alarm, this would be a serious event. Fire is even a direct safety accident in driving. I request to report the accident and ask the dealer to bear the repair costs and all losses caused by the accident damage.

I bought this LR4 from a single owner who had only driven it for 27k miles. Although I had test-driven it multiple times, I was hesitant to purchase it due to concerns about its reliability. However, during a trip to New Orleans, I saw many LR4s and took it as a sign to go for it. Seven years later, I still own my LR4, and it has proven to be the most reliable and best vehicle I have ever owned. I love driving it and always find reasons to take it out. It is fast, smooth, and incredibly comfortable, with enough space for seven adults or plenty of cargo. The spacious door entry and adjustable height have been especially helpful in transporting my father wherever he wants to go. The turning radius is impressive, and even in harsh Midwest winters, I feel safe and secure. While maintenance costs can be high (mostly for tires and brakes) and premium gas is required, it is worth it to keep my LR4 in top condition so I can enjoy it for another six years. Although I rarely see another one where I live, when I do, I can't help but stop and admire its stunning design.

I really enjoyed my previous LR3s from 2005 and 2008, but this one takes the cake. It's smoother, quieter, and significantly more powerful. I even got a speeding ticket within 3 hours of owning it! The outside facelift is a huge improvement, giving it a much classier look with the updated head/taillights and grille. Inside, the overall quality is much nicer with better leather and a huge improvement on the inside of the doors. While I do miss the old headrests with handles, the adjustable headrests are still good. Off-road, this vehicle is amazing and I love climbing boulders in it. I've had no significant problems with any of my 3 LRs. The gas mileage is a little worse than my previous LR3s, but the sound system and navigation have both been improved and are just fine.

I'm so glad to hear that you chose the LR4 LUX (new) over the BMW X-5 turbo and Volvo XC90 V8! It sounds like you made a great choice. Driving it must be an absolute pleasure, especially with all that power for its 7,000 pounds. I'm happy to hear that you've had a great experience on the freeway and that the visibility from the driver's seat is excellent. While there have been a few electrical/communication issues, it's great to know that the dealer has been there to support you every step of the way. Here's to many more miles of happy driving!

I fell in love with the LR3 15 years ago and have been a loyal fan ever since. I've owned both a white and a black one before upgrading to the LR4 in 2015. I purchased a fully loaded LUX model from the original owner in Malibu and have taken it on some incredible trips, including multiple journeys to Belize and back, and I'm currently preparing for a trip to Baja from CO. I can confidently say that no other luxury SUV could handle these adventures like my LR4. With 160k miles on the clock, my LR4 has been incredibly reliable. Up until 150k miles, all I needed were oil changes, brakes, tires, and the recommended maintenance schedule. Recently, I had to replace the front control arms and the water pump, and I plan to replace the timing tensioners to extend the timing chain lifespan by another 100k miles. Fortunately, my husband is able to do the work, so I don't feel the pain of repair costs. I plan to keep driving this car until the engine or transmission gives out, and based on my research, that could be another 150k miles or more. My LR4 is rock solid and has been a fantastic investment.

My 2010 LR4 has been a nightmare. The camera starts backwards, and we've had to replace the engine, transmission, and water pump. On top of that, the car always tells me that I don't have my key while I'm driving, and today it wouldn't start with either key. Sometimes when I roll my window up, the other one rolls down. It's been a frustrating experience. I hope Land Rover can improve their quality control in the future. Thank you for listening to my experience.

I can confidently say that the vehicle I owned for 2 days and 30 miles had extensive rusting on every piece of metal, including the brake disc. The rust was not limited to the contact area, which is typically the first to rust when exposed to water. Upon inspection, it was evident that the vehicle had been exposed to harsh conditions, resembling that of a salt bath.

At 7000 miles, my Land Rover experienced a major control module failure. Unfortunately, TATALand Rover was unable to provide a loaner vehicle and has been struggling to identify the issue with my truck. As someone who has owned over 15 Land Rovers, I am disappointed to say that this will be my last. Despite the recent Indian ownership, Land Rover's reputation for poor reliability remains unchanged.
