- Summary: I was driving east from Austin, Tx on [XXX], and as I approached a major intersection in Elgin, Tx., a warning light appeared on my dashboard that said "hybrid system failure: pull over safely". I was able to pull over into the left turn lane and then was barely able to make it over a curb and onto a highway median strip, before my car engine stopped and all dashboard lights went out. This happened in about 30 seconds. My two year old car with fewer than 30,000 miles on it went completely dead. It would not start even after several attempts. I called Kia roadside assistance, and was told I needed to have the car towed to a dealership. The tow truck driver backed the car into the space they indicated at the dealership, and it started to roll forward as it was apparently in neutral. He had to borrow a board to put under the back wheels. Days later I was told to come get the car, as it had been repaired. When I got there, it was in the same space with the board still under the wheels. I was told it just had needed a software update. (SA553A). I was never notified that my vehicle needed this update, and would just stop wherever: i.e. on a hwy with no shoulders, at night, etc. and that I would be unable to brake the car, or drive it, or put on emergency warning lights after 30 seconds. This was unbelievably unsafe. I am [XXX]. What if I were a family with children on board and it happened on a highway at night??? - Summary: I purchased a 2020 Sportage in 2022 from St.Cloud Honda in St. Cloud, MN. Recently my engine locked up after no oil. I was over in mileage, but had an oil change in April. I would receive warning lights for tire pressures but never received an indication that my oil was low until my engine seized. I don't understand why a critical component for the car, the oil, would not issue an indication that it was low until it was empty (too late). During my recent problem, my oil light came on as did the battery light, but the car stalled at that moment. During my last oil change in April, I let the advisor know that my engine light was on (not oil nor battery). The mechanic said it was from a previous repair, but there wasn't anything detected. They had the light turned off and then as soon as I left the dealership it turned back on. When I called back to let them know, they said it wasn't anything. That was a relief because I didn't want anything to be wrong with my engine. My vehicle is currently at Cornerstone Kia in Elk River, MN should you have anything to discuss with the advisors.

- Summary: Hood latch seccondary safety latch did not catch hood and hood flew up causing inability to see and luckily only damage the car itself. This is a dangerous problem with Kia and should be investigated for the safety catch becoming corroded and sticky. Its design is defective and it should be recalled and reworked so that it can not become corroded and sieze preventing safe operation in the event the primary latch comes unclipped while driving down the road at speed if a person were to accidentally pull the hood release in motion or it it were so fail to hold adequately.

This SUV has everything I was looking for - size, power, styling, tech, and more. I'm a fan of German makes, but for this level of equipment, you'd be spending north of $45,000. What I love about this trim is that it includes everything, with no nickel and diming for options. I went with Pacific Blue and beige interior, but the cool grey interior would be nice too. According to the latest surveys, Kia reliability is up there with the best. I'm looking forward to a long ownership. In the first year, I had zero defects. The ride is a little stiff, but I recently rode in a RAV4 and it was worse. The steering is nicely weighed and responsive, and the transmission is excellent - it always seems to be in the right gear. I especially love the low rpm torque pull in second and third gear. All the tech stuff works great too. While the gas mileage could be better and the gas tank is small (15 gallons), I'm still totally satisfied with my purchase. I did have a defective spark plug that probably caused a burned valve and internal engine damage, but KIA replaced it at no charge to me. It took 5 weeks to get a new engine from Korea, and I had an underpowered Ford Fusion loaner the whole time, but I'm glad to have my ride back. I still love the car, despite the disappointing gas mileage. I don't drive enough to worry about it, and I've never been able to squeeze more than 14 gallons into the tank when it's practically empty. I think the capacity is overstated.

The KIA Sportage is a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a reliable and fun small SUV. Our family loves it because of its excellent gas mileage of 20 in the city and 27 on the highway with a V6 engine. The ride is smooth and comfortable, and the interior is flexible enough to accommodate all our needs, including hauling golf clubs. We have received many compliments from everyone who has ridden in it. After 41,000 miles, we are pleased to report that it has had no issues whatsoever, just regular oil changes and gas fill-ups. We highly recommend the Sportage to anyone looking for a great SUV.

I've been driving my 2017 Sportage SX (FWD) for 4 weeks and 1500 miles, and I absolutely love it! Compared to my previous 2015 Honda CR-V, the Sportage feels like a major upgrade with its luxurious and high-tech features, turbo engine, quiet interior, superior sound system, and improved handling. Although Honda is known for its reliability, I had issues with my CR-V and unhelpful dealers. As a loyal Honda customer (I've owned 5), I was hesitant to switch to Kia, but I'm so glad I did. The Sportage is a quality vehicle that showcases Kia's commitment to engineering excellence. The seats are comfortable, and the driving experience is engaging and dynamic. It reminds me a bit of my 2010 VW GTI, but with a more mature feel. Some of my friends teased me for switching to a Kia, but once they rode in and drove it, they were pleasantly surprised. The only downsides I've noticed so far are the fuel efficiency (or lack thereof) and the steering that feels a bit numb.

As the original owner of my Sportage, which has just turned 191,000 miles, I can confidently say that it has only required usual repairs and maintenance. The only costly repair was the 4x4 hub upgrade, which I was able to replace with manual hubs for just $120. Despite its high mileage, the engine and transmission are still the original ones, and I am able to achieve almost 23 mpg with the A/C on and averaging 70 mph. While some vehicles may be lemons, I have found that proper maintenance and repairs can keep a vehicle running smoothly for a long time. I plan on keeping my Sportage until it breaks in half.

The repeated illumination of the check engine light and vibrations during acceleration and deceleration at specific speeds have persisted despite the dealer's inability to diagnose the issue. Despite our efforts to secure a Kia representative to examine the vehicle, we have been unsuccessful for the past six months. It is clear that the dealer has not been helpful in resolving this matter.

It's unfortunate to say that my experience with this car started off great, but unfortunately, it slowly became a money pit due to an electrical recall that the dealership failed to inform us about. I would recommend considering other options before making a purchase.
