- Summary: I was driving east from Austin, Tx on [XXX], and as I approached a major intersection in Elgin, Tx., a warning light appeared on my dashboard that said "hybrid system failure: pull over safely". I was able to pull over into the left turn lane and then was barely able to make it over a curb and onto a highway median strip, before my car engine stopped and all dashboard lights went out. This happened in about 30 seconds. My two year old car with fewer than 30,000 miles on it went completely dead. It would not start even after several attempts. I called Kia roadside assistance, and was told I needed to have the car towed to a dealership. The tow truck driver backed the car into the space they indicated at the dealership, and it started to roll forward as it was apparently in neutral. He had to borrow a board to put under the back wheels. Days later I was told to come get the car, as it had been repaired. When I got there, it was in the same space with the board still under the wheels. I was told it just had needed a software update. (SA553A). I was never notified that my vehicle needed this update, and would just stop wherever: i.e. on a hwy with no shoulders, at night, etc. and that I would be unable to brake the car, or drive it, or put on emergency warning lights after 30 seconds. This was unbelievably unsafe. I am [XXX]. What if I were a family with children on board and it happened on a highway at night??? - Summary: I purchased a 2020 Sportage in 2022 from St.Cloud Honda in St. Cloud, MN. Recently my engine locked up after no oil. I was over in mileage, but had an oil change in April. I would receive warning lights for tire pressures but never received an indication that my oil was low until my engine seized. I don't understand why a critical component for the car, the oil, would not issue an indication that it was low until it was empty (too late). During my recent problem, my oil light came on as did the battery light, but the car stalled at that moment. During my last oil change in April, I let the advisor know that my engine light was on (not oil nor battery). The mechanic said it was from a previous repair, but there wasn't anything detected. They had the light turned off and then as soon as I left the dealership it turned back on. When I called back to let them know, they said it wasn't anything. That was a relief because I didn't want anything to be wrong with my engine. My vehicle is currently at Cornerstone Kia in Elk River, MN should you have anything to discuss with the advisors.

- Summary: Hood latch seccondary safety latch did not catch hood and hood flew up causing inability to see and luckily only damage the car itself. This is a dangerous problem with Kia and should be investigated for the safety catch becoming corroded and sticky. Its design is defective and it should be recalled and reworked so that it can not become corroded and sieze preventing safe operation in the event the primary latch comes unclipped while driving down the road at speed if a person were to accidentally pull the hood release in motion or it it were so fail to hold adequately.

The ride may be a bit stiff, but overall the driving experience is quite good. I've had a few instances where the ABS has saved me from other drivers' poor decision making. One time, a driver decided to turn left from the overtaking lane at 70 mph to get an ice cream without using the slip road, but thankfully my Kia's ABS kicked in. Another time, a convoy of cars turned left into traffic without a care for those with the right of way, but again, my Kia's ABS helped me avoid a collision. Thank you, Kia!

The compact design makes it great for off-roading. I have never been left behind when out wheeling with others. While the 4cyl engine does okay, it's not meant for hauling. If you have heavy passengers, you may feel a loss of power, but hey, it's a 4cyl. I'm not a fan of the swinging spare tire on the back, as it takes two hands to close. Overall, it's a great value for the money spent. It works great for my family of 4 right now, and when we expand, we will consider a newer version, perhaps a little bigger with a v6 engine :)

I'm so glad you're considering this SUV! I did a lot of research and price checks before purchasing it myself. While it could use a little more power, I've found that it's not really a problem with what it has. I opted for the Limited version with all the options and was thrilled to get it delivered for under $18k. After driving it for 17000 miles, I can say that the ride is consistently balanced and handles most road problems very well. Just keep in mind that it has a truck chassis, so it might feel a little rough at first.

I bought my Kia Sportage last December and I absolutely love it! I've taken it on several long-distance trips and it has never let me down. It's so comfortable and fun to drive, and surprisingly spacious too. Even with my wife and two small children, we can fit all of our stuff in it when we travel. Plus, when I went out shooting in the muddy desert, the 4WD handled like a pro! It's no wonder my dad just went out and bought one too.

I love driving luxury SUVs, but I have to say, the new Sportage turbo is a blast to drive! It has most of the amenities you'd find in a Lexus, with a few omissions, but the 20k savings on the sticker price more than makes up for it. The touchscreen apps and navigation are far easier to use than in other cars I've tried. The seating is comfortable, but I think it could be improved with a more sporty wrap-around design, and it rides a little high in the cab for my liking. However, the expansive sunroof is absolutely amazing! The only things I miss are seat memory, seat belt release, driver seat back up, and one-touch window up & down... but I know I'm just being spoiled. Overall, the Sportage was a great financial exchange for us. My husband drives a Soul, which is what made us check out the other vehicles in the Kia lineup.

You've got yourself a great car with only a few minor issues despite having driven it for quite some time (81,000 miles). The master cylinder and rear window motors were replaced under warranty. It runs great and although it may not accelerate very quickly due to the gear ratio and automatic transmission, it can reach well over 110 mph. With Michelin tires, it handles like a top-heavy, short wheelbase, narrow track vehicle, which is pretty impressive and a lot of fun. It's an inexpensive car that provides a lot of enjoyment.

However, it turned out to be nothing like an SUV, with no room in the back seat and my friends' knees always in my back. Although there were no issues at first, we had to do a $600 repair just two weeks later, and the AC couldn't be on because the car would overheat. Unfortunately, it has been in the shop over six times in the year that I've had it, and now the radiator has split. In my experience, this car has not been the best choice for a first car. Parents, you may want to consider other options for your child's first car.

Hello! I wanted to share an update on my experience with this car. Unfortunately, after driving it for over 20,000 miles, I encountered an issue with the transmission that was quite disengaging for such a new car. Sometimes when I stopped at a stop sign or light, the car would barely move when I tried to accelerate. After about 30-40 seconds, I would feel a jolt and then the transmission would respond and the car would move normally again. I reported the problem to Kia dealers three times before they finally replaced the transmission. While I'm not sure if this was just bad luck or a quality issue with Kia, I have decided to choose a different make and model for my next car. If you're considering buying a Kia, I would recommend proceeding with caution. Thank you for reading!
