- Summary: I was driving east from Austin, Tx on [XXX], and as I approached a major intersection in Elgin, Tx., a warning light appeared on my dashboard that said "hybrid system failure: pull over safely". I was able to pull over into the left turn lane and then was barely able to make it over a curb and onto a highway median strip, before my car engine stopped and all dashboard lights went out. This happened in about 30 seconds. My two year old car with fewer than 30,000 miles on it went completely dead. It would not start even after several attempts. I called Kia roadside assistance, and was told I needed to have the car towed to a dealership. The tow truck driver backed the car into the space they indicated at the dealership, and it started to roll forward as it was apparently in neutral. He had to borrow a board to put under the back wheels. Days later I was told to come get the car, as it had been repaired. When I got there, it was in the same space with the board still under the wheels. I was told it just had needed a software update. (SA553A). I was never notified that my vehicle needed this update, and would just stop wherever: i.e. on a hwy with no shoulders, at night, etc. and that I would be unable to brake the car, or drive it, or put on emergency warning lights after 30 seconds. - Summary: I've had two issues with my 2023 Kia Sportage cruise control. 1. When I press the 'set' cruise control button, it will set at a speed far grater than I'm driving and escalate to that speed. Example: I'm driving 65 on the highway. I set the cruise control. It sets to 100 mph and quickly gains to that speed. This has happened about 5 times. It doesn't happen every time I try to use cruise control. The last time it happened, I could click the 'set' button to disengage cruise control but it would never set to 60 mph- always 100. So I pressed 'set' at 60 MPH. It went to 100 MPH. Then I pressed Set to disengage. Then pressed 'set'again at 60 MPH and it went to 100 MPH. The only way to get it to actually re set was to pull over and re-start the car. 2. When you actually get it to 'set' to 60 MPH and then press the toggle to speed up, it will often toggle up to 90 MPH instead of to 65MPH. This has happened 3-5 times. This is super dangerous since it speeds up so quickly.

- Summary: Good morning, I'm writing with a vehicle safety risk that my wife and I experienced on Sunday while driving home in our 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid SUV that we purchased new in August 2022. On one of the surface streets in Olympia, WA where we live, I turned on the cruise control to set it at the speed limit for that street. Instantaneously, upon turning on the cruise control, it set itself to 110mph and immediately started rapid acceleration. I was able to immediately turn off the cruise control. I tried turning it on again to see if the behavior repeated itself, and again it automatically set itself to 110mph and began acceleration. I tried turning the cruise speed setting to a lower mph, but the set speed would not adjust off 110mph. At that point, I turned it off, and we made it home without any problems. However, upon getting home, I immediately started to search online to see if other people are experiencing this problem. A number of users on Reddit with either Kia's or Hyundai's (same parent company) have dealt with the same exact issue. Today, Kia informed me that the video that I risked my life to take of my car almost killing me and other road drivers was not enough and that they could not replicate the issue. The response time from my case manager has literally been atrocious. These issues have significantly limited my use and enjoyment of the vehicle, making me regret my purchase. I did not expect to rely on rentals without the features that led me to choose this car, especially due to delays in addressing my case.

Third incident the dealership took responsibility. I had been without my car for a total of 6 months or more. Each time the vehicle is repaired within 13/14 days it happened again. I just got my car back (third time) about a week ago. I am uncomfortable driving it, because I fear it will misfire and shut off again while I am driving and the dealership will say it’s poor fuel quality. Vehicle has 28,900 miles on it. I’ve had it for over 2 years. The contact stated it began to misfire, again! This is the 4th time in about 7 months and each time the dealership repairs it, it happens again.

- Summary: At approximately 5:05pm today (6/4) as I was leaving a parking lot, I was reversing into the parking lot. The van directly opposite me also had their reverse lights on but was not moving. It was one of those whos-going-to-go-first situations. I had proximity warnings going off because of the cars parked around me and I started to reverse when I realized the van was waiting for me, and as I pulled back about 3 feet, the car auto braked. I looked around to make sure the car had not detected anything I hadn't seen, like a pedestrian or another car approaching from the side, and there was nothing. The van on the other side of the parking lot still had not moved as they were waiting for me to leave. The following is a letter we sent to Kia 3 months ago regarding the same issue happening multiple times with our car. They held the car under investigation, did not fix anything, and gave it back to us in terrible condition (cleanliness). I attached a copy of the letter to this submission. This is the 4th time we have had this problem. Eventually someone will get hurt or killed if this car continued to automatically brake due to faulty sensors or unvalidated software.

- Summary: Kia America, Inc. (Kia) is recalling certain 2023 Sportage, Sportage Hybrid, Sportage Plug-in Hybrid, Niro Hybrid, Niro Plug-in Hybrid, Soul, and Telluride vehicles equipped with a digital instrument cluster containing a 4.2" LCD screen. The instrument cluster may fail to display any information when the vehicle is started. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 101, "Control and Displays," and 138, "Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems."
- Consequence: A blank instrument cluster display will not show critical information, such as tire pressure, warning messages, and warning lights, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will update the instrument cluster software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 26, 2023. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC270.

Despite enjoying my car's performance, I have noticed an issue with the aerodynamic design of the windshield/frame. Unfortunately, cracking the front windows while driving is not an option for smokers like myself due to the rain being channeled into the cabin, soaking the door handle, window controls, and my left leg. However, I have taken action by ordering aftermarket wind deflectors and am eagerly awaiting their arrival, confident that they will solve the problem.

Very nice ride, with plenty of room in the back seat. The acceleration is as expected for a mid-size SUV. Although the rear trunk door does not have lift assist, it is still a great purchase overall. I love it! The gas mileage improved once the engine was broken in.

Recently, my Sportage x pro encountered an issue where it was not accelerating properly and almost came to a stop on the highway. However, I was able to resolve the issue by turning off the engine for a few minutes and then restarting it. After that, the car ran much better.

I recently purchased the 2023 Kia Sportage, which boasts an impressive appearance. However, the car's functionality is hindered by the lack of a functioning speedometer, making it difficult to drive safely, particularly on the highway. Despite attempts to have the issue resolved, the dealership has been unhelpful and unwilling to provide a loaner vehicle. While the car itself has potential, it appears that the manufacturer has yet to fully address this issue.

I rented this car for an extended 3400 mile trip and found that the seats were uncomfortable and the AC was marginal throughout the journey. Additionally, the dashboard electronics disappeared along with the AC while on the interstate, which required me to come to a complete stop, turn off the car and restart it. The acceleration was inconsistent, with some moments of peppy performance and other frustratingly slow moments. Despite these issues, I was able to achieve an average of 32 MPG, which is commendable. Overall, the car's performance was not up to my expectations given its mileage of just over 30K.

I'm going to compare my 2021 Equinox 2WD to the 2023 Sportage AWD. I have noticed that the lane assist feature can be a bit over-corrective, causing the steering wheel to jerk back and forth. Additionally, the cruise control can surge and stay downshifted for too long.

Although my car was involved in a 4 car accident last week and was hit 5 times, the airbags did not deploy. While it is possible that the sensors were not triggered due to the location of the impact, it is concerning that the car was deemed a total loss without the airbags deploying. As a consumer who prioritizes safety measures, I am disappointed with this experience and will be avoiding Kia in the future.

The vehicle drives decently, although it's not particularly fast, but I understand that it's not a sports car. Unfortunately, the gas mileage is not great on the 2.5. Additionally, the tires are not the best I have ever had in a car, and I find them to be quite disappointing. The exterior plastics are also not the highest quality, and after washing the car, they look much older than they actually are. However, with a bit of detailing, it can look much better. On the bright side, it does drive relatively smoothly with minimal road noise. The interior space is pretty good for a small car, and even my grandma likes it, although it's not really my cup of tea.
