2011 Kia Sportage problems
The Kia Sportage (Korean: 기아 스포티지) is a series of automobiles manufactured by the South Korean manufacturer Kia since 1993 through five generations. Initially a compact SUV built on a body-on-frame chassis, the second-generation Sportage transitioned to a car-based platform which placed it into the compact crossover SUV class, and has been developed alongside the Hyundai Tucson. Since the fifth-generation model launched in 2021, Kia developed the Sportage in two sizes with different wheelbase lengths for different markets.
The Sportage has been the best-selling Kia model globally since 2016 after surpassing the Rio. In 2018, the model reached the 5 million production milestone. As of 2023, the Sportage is positioned between the Seltos or Niro and the three-row Sorento in Kia's SUV global lineup.
In 2022, the Sportage won the 'Family SUV' and 'Full Hybrid' categories in the Scottish Car of the Year Awards. In 2023, the Sportage was chosen as Car of the Year in Morocco.

- VIN: KNDPBCA29B7
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: My 2011 kia sportage had a recall #23V65200. On [XXX] my radio started smoking and my headlights would not shut off even with car off and keys out. You had to unplug cable from battery for lights to go off and not run battery down. I called kia in bloomington indiana they said to not drive and call customer service to have towed. i called on [XXX] and talked to a lady, she was very rude and dismissive. Said they would not tow due to my kia being a 2011 it was to old and they would only tow if above 2015. She then said I had to pay and only if the lights and smoke was because of recall they would pay. But I did not know or have extra money for this and nowhere in our papers about recall does it say it had to be a certain year to tow, only to stop driving and call. So my disabled husband drove it to the dealership in bloomington on [XXX] and dropped off even though they were at risk. I did not hear anything from kia and called to make sure they received auto. They had said they found my car and did not know it was there on June 19th. My husband told a person there he dropped it off and I guess they didn't get messages. After having my car and me telling them what had happened they then said they fixed recall but would have to run a diagnostic for them to see if the other problems were because of it. Bloomington then said they could not say it was not because of the recall this happened they did not know. So they sent my car to headquarters to engineers is what bloomington told me. Did not hear from them again until July 19th stating again they were not sure. And we had to pay for diagnostic check of 195.00. On Aug 6th they messaged us and said they found issues but it was not because of recall. And we would have to pay roughly 2500.00 to fix, yet they stated my washer fluid was fine when in fact it is not hooked up, line broke. How is that? I said I was going to talk with someone and get back with them. My car is still there. - Summary: Kia Motors Corporation (Kia) is recalling certain model year 2007-2010 Rondo, model year 2007-2011 Sedona, Sorento and Sportage, model year 2010-2011 Soul, model year 2008-2011 Optima, model year 2010 Forte, model year 2007-2009 Amanti, and model year 2009 Borrego vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Kia recalled 623,658 model year 2007-2010 Rondo and Sportage, model year 2007-2011 Sorento, model year 2007 Sedona, model year 2010-2011 Soul, and model year 2011 Optima vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake-transmission shift interlock feature preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
- Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of PARK without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Kia will send an interim notification to owners in May 2013. When parts are available, owners will receive a second notification and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. Owners may contact Kia at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's recall campaign number is SC098.

I have had it for 2 months and I absolutely love it! My three-year-old son is also a big fan. The unique color really caught my eye and I have received so many compliments on it. As someone who is 5'2, I have plenty of space inside. The car is also equipped with a backup camera and Bluetooth connection, which are both very convenient features. The only minor issue I have noticed is the plastic edges on the outside of the car, but overall I am extremely satisfied with my purchase.
-
Great car! It drives a little rougher than the Chevy HHR that I traded in for it, but overall it's nice. I was just wondering, did the dealer charge anyone else $1000.00 above sticker price? I just noticed it on the paperwork.

After a month, I can confidently say that this vehicle is better than average and is the leader in its class. Although the ride is a bit stiff, it is still comfortable and handles well. The Sirrus radio may sound a bit shrill at mid-level and treble, but the FM is not as bad. Perhaps it is the antenna. I took some time to find a bass boost in the set-up program, which improved the sound quality. The mileage is a minimum of 20.5mpg in town and 29mpg on the highway, which is not quite what I expected, but still better than my 2003 Honda CRV. I personally prefer the Sportage over the sister Tucson. If I were to buy again, I would probably spend $6000 more for a Buick Regal, but overall, I am satisfied with my purchase.

Exceptionally well designed. Incredible array of features for the price. Build quality is excellent. Got the AWD EX with leather/sunroof package. Recently parked next to some BMW, Audi and Lexus SUVs and this SUV knocks them all off the block on looks alone. Buy it, you won't regret it.

I've only had my Sportage since January 16th, which is just three days ago, and I couldn't be happier. I traded in my 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee Larado, which had poor gas mileage, was noisy to drive, uncomfortable to sit in (especially for long drives), and handled like a Mack Truck. I was completely dissatisfied with the drive and feel of an 'American-made' car/SUV, which felt cheap - not the reputation of Jeep I had expected. However, my Sportage has just made a 5-hour trip from the upper northwest Ohio to Columbus, and neither I nor my passengers felt fatigued by the seating or the room available in the seats. I got the 6-speed Automatic, turbocharged T-GDI model, and I am absolutely thrilled!

I have been thoroughly enjoying my Sportage for the past three weeks without any issues. However, it is important to be cautious when dealing with the financial aspects of purchasing a car, particularly when it comes to rebates. In my case, I was initially informed that I qualified for a rebate, but later received a call stating that I did not. Despite the unpleasant attitude of the finance representative, I remained firm and only communicated with the sales manager. This experience has reinforced the importance of being vigilant and assertive when it comes to financial matters. This is my experience with Jack Miller Kia in North Kansas City, MO.

Love the car! I've been really enjoying it. Unfortunately, I had to have the transmission totally replaced at 14,750 miles. Thankfully, the warranty covered this. However, I did have a bit of an issue with Kia Roadside. The representative I spoke to seemed a bit clueless and I had to wait quite a while for a tow truck (which wasn't a flatbed). To make matters worse, the tow truck driver wasn't very careful.

I purchased a used 2011 Kia from Heritage and unfortunately experienced some issues with the transmission after just 26 days of driving. Despite the car having 104,000 miles on it, I confidently requested a repair under the 30-day warranty. Although I encountered some initial resistance from the dealer, I was ultimately able to have the issue resolved. While I still have some concerns about the car's reliability, I am satisfied with the outcome of my warranty claim.

I took my car to the dealer because the turbo didn't seem to be kicking in, but they couldn't find anything wrong. Unfortunately, I was charged $85.00 every time they did a diagnostic check, even though nothing was found. Eventually, the engine threw a rod and I had to pay $6000.00 for a new short block. Later, I received a letter from Kia stating that they were extending the warranty on the engine due to frequent failures. I'm currently waiting to see if the company will refund the cost of the short block. Yesterday, I took the car back to the dealer because the turbo is acting up again, just like before the $6000.00 repair. I'm not sure if the issue is with the car, the car company, the dealer, the mechanics, or a combination of all of them.

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my 2011 Kia Sportage, which I purchased almost 3 weeks ago. Overall, I'm quite happy with it, although I have noticed that the gas mileage isn't quite what I was hoping for. Despite driving as carefully as possible, I've only been able to achieve 20.4 MPG, which is lower than the advertised 21-30 MPG. This is a big change from my previous car, a VW Jetta TDI, which got anywhere from 35-52 MPG. However, I had to trade in the Jetta because it was falling apart, and I'm really enjoying the comfort and spaciousness of the Sportage. It's a well-designed car that has received compliments from everyone who's seen it, and the double sunroof is a real highlight. All in all, I'd definitely recommend the Sportage as long as gas mileage isn't a major concern for you!
