2013 Kia Sportage problems
The Kia Sportage (Korean: 기아 스포티지) is a series of automobiles manufactured by the South Korean manufacturer Kia since 1993 through five generations. Initially a compact SUV built on a body-on-frame chassis, the second-generation Sportage transitioned to a car-based platform which placed it into the compact crossover SUV class, and has been developed alongside the Hyundai Tucson. Since the fifth-generation model launched in 2021, Kia developed the Sportage in two sizes with different wheelbase lengths for different markets.
The Sportage has been the best-selling Kia model globally since 2016 after surpassing the Rio. In 2018, the model reached the 5 million production milestone. As of 2023, the Sportage is positioned between the Seltos or Niro and the three-row Sorento in Kia's SUV global lineup.
In 2022, the Sportage won the 'Family SUV' and 'Full Hybrid' categories in the Scottish Car of the Year Awards. In 2023, the Sportage was chosen as Car of the Year in Morocco.

- Summary: I had my vehicle in for a recall from Kia PI2103 for Kia to update the software in my Kia Sportage. Which was to install software that could help my engine from failing. This was performed on January 19th 2024. Along with this recall they were supposed to extend my warranty to 15 yrs 150,000 miles. Shortly after aout 500 miles later and a few weeks my engine developed a knocking noise. I took back to the dealer that performed the recall to have it diagnosed. They advised that it needs and engine and is part of the campaign but they needed to get prior authorization. After a month went by Kia determined because I never took the key tag out of the car that I would not be getting a new engine for not meeting the requirements. How they determined this is when a service advisor is making a repair order they use window tags to locate cars. Well, the advisor rather than using a new window tag used the one that was sitting on my seat. I would like Kia to honor their extended coverage and replace my engine at no charge. Attached is proof I had KSDS and also a copy of the Kia techline that the service manager gave me to show the reason.

Positive 2013 Kia Sportage car reviews
-
The car has been awesome! It's taken me on many long trips and it's great on gas. Although, I do wish the seats were more comfortable.
-
Great looking SUV! It's awesome that it comes with so many great options as standard. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it has remote start from the factory. The UVO system is also a really nice feature. While the ride is a little stiff, it's definitely not horrible. Plus, the cornering is excellent!
-
This is an excellent car to buy if you're a first-time buyer like I was. I absolutely love it! It has great room for everyone and awesome storage in the back.
-
Before purchasing a Kia, it's important to check for any recalls, as there have been reports of certain models exploding without warning. However, if your recalls are up to date, this compact SUV offers great gas mileage and easy driving. The design is cute and sporty, and the vehicle is surprisingly roomy. While the steering may be a bit stiff for a small car and there may be some road noise, overall it's a great entry-level vehicle for a single driver or small family. If your family grows, you may want to consider purchasing a larger vehicle.
-
The front seats could use more support and padding, especially for long trips, particularly if you have arthritis, fibromyalgia, or other physical pain. Additionally, it may be a bit challenging to get out of the seats after traveling for an extended period of time. However, apart from this issue, I absolutely love this SUV and highly recommend it. It is economical, sporty, awesome, and safe. I am not the only one who loves it; many others also adore it, as well as the larger KIA Sorento 4 cyl. AWD. KIA offers great value SUVs, and I am now a KIA fan and believer myself.

In 2012, I purchased a 2013 Kia Sportage LX after months of thorough research. However, shortly after the purchase, I encountered some issues with the engine sputtering when stopped and the navigation display screen going out randomly. Despite taking it to the dealer, the problems would never present themselves. Then in 2020, the engine started to tick and knock while driving on the freeway. I contacted Kia and they asked me to get a diagnostic test done at the dealership. The dealership suggested engine replacement, but Kia refused to fix it, citing that it was out of warranty. Even though Kia recalled the engine on my exact vehicle type, my specific vehicle vin# was not covered. Despite my efforts to resolve the issue through Kia, BBB, and Consumer Affairs, I was unable to find a solution. While I was disappointed with the outcome, I remain confident in my decision-making process and will continue to make informed purchases in the future.

After conducting extensive research for approximately six months, I decided to purchase the 2013 Kia Sportage LX. I found this site to be the most helpful during my research. Although I loved my car, I did experience occasional engine misfires and display screen malfunctions. However, since these issues did not present themselves during service, they were overlooked. Despite this, last year my engine started making a knocking noise and the Kia dealership informed me that it needed to be replaced. When I inquired about the engine recall associated with the 2013 Kia Sportage, I was denied by Kia, even though my vehicle displayed the exact same issue as the recall on the exact same vehicle, same year, and model. Unfortunately, my VIN number was not listed as a vehicle affected by the recall. Even the Kia dealership could not understand why Kia refused to fix the vehicle. When I towed the vehicle home, the tow truck driver informed me that he tows a bunch of Kia's all the time for the exact same issue. It is disappointing that Kia does not stand by their product. As of 2023, I have still not received any compensation for the car I so diligently researched and purchased.
