HERE YOU CAN SEE THE REMNANTS OF THE CROSSMEMBER AND MOUNTING BRACKET STILL BOLTED TO THE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY; THE DAMAGE WAS ACROSS THE ENTIRE CROSSMEMBER INCLUDING THE FUEL TANK MOUNT AND NOTE THE LEFT SIDE TRAILING ARM MOUNT WAS NOT TOO FAR AWAY FROM BREAKING OFF AS WELL. I HAVE HAD THE CRUISE FAIL TO TURN OFF, THE ESC OFF LIGHT ILLUMINATES, THE CAR CAN BE SHIFTED INTO GEAR WITHOUT PRESSING THE BREAK WITH THE IGNITION OFF. THE VEHICLE WILL OCCASIONALLY HAVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ISSUES WITH THE BREAK TRANSMISSION INTERLOCK SYSTEM WHICH IS CAUSING THE INTERMITTENT ESC OFF LIGHT WARNING TO RANDOMLY ILLUMINATE. IT WILL GO QUITE A TIME WITHOUT IT ON THEN RANDOMLY TURN ON AND OFF AND THEN STAY AND THEN REPEAT THE SAME TYPE PATTERN ASSOCIATED WITH THE REPORTS OF THE INITIAL RECALL. I HAVE REPORTED THESE ISSUES TO KIA IN WHICH I CALLED THE KIA US CORPORATE LINE ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. IT STILL CONTINUES DESPITE REGULAR SERVICE AND PROPER VEHICLE CARE. THE VEHICLE CAN BE STATIONARY OR IN MOVEMENT. IN MANY CASES THE ESC OFF LIGHT ILLUMINATES WHEN STARTING FROM A STOPPED POSITION, OR RIGHT AFTER ACCELERATING OR BEGINNING TO ACCELERATE. THE ONLY WAY TO RESET IT IS TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON. SOMETIMES THAT WORKS SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T. IF IT WORKS AT TIMES, AS SOON AS I MOVE THE SHIFTER AWAY FROM PARK IT ILLUMINATES THE ESC OFF LIGHT. IT IS INTERMITTENT THOUGH AND CAN BE HARD TO CATCH. WHEN IT HAPPENS THOUGH IT DOES SO ON AND OFF RANDOMLY. THIS HAS OCCURRED REPEATEDLY SINCE PURCHASING THE CAR. MECHANICS CANNOT FIGURE IT OUT EXCEPT EXPRESSING IT IS EXACTLY THE DESCRIPTION OF THE RECALL. I WAS UNAWARE OF THE RECALL AS MY VIN DIDN'T SHOT UP. HOWEVER THE KIA OFFICE TOLD ME THE CARS VIN WAS REGISTERED AS SPORTAGE WITHOUT AC EVEN THOUGHT IT HAS AC AND HAS SINCE MANUFACTURE. THE ISSUES NEED ATTENTION. I WAS INFORMED BY ANOTHER DRIVER THAT THE TAIL LIGHTS WERE OUT MULTIPLE TIMES BUT I COULD NEVER REPRODUCE IT. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE THE VISIBILITY WAS IMPAIRED WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE LIGHT BULB WATTAGE NEEDED TO BE INCREASED AND REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.

WHEN DRIVING IN WET ROAD CONDITIONS, THROUGH RAIN AND OVER PUDDLES OF WATER MY BATTERY LIGHT WILL COME ON AND THE POWER STEERING WILL LOCK. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE VEHICLE AND NOT DUE TO REGULAR 'WEAR AND TEAR.' I HAVE READ OTHER REPORTS OF OWNERS OF THIS SAME MAKE/MODEL VEHICLE THAT HAVE ALSO HAD THE SAME ISSUES. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE DURING A RAIN STORM, WORRYING THAT THE CAR IS GOING TO STALL AND LEAVE ME STRANDED.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2007 Kia Sportage.

- Summary: Kia Motors Corporation (Kia) is recalling certain model year 2007-2010 Rondo, model year 2007-2011 Sedona, Sorento and Sportage, model year 2010-2011 Soul, model year 2008-2011 Optima, model year 2010 Forte, model year 2007-2009 Amanti, and model year 2009 Borrego vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Kia recalled 623,658 model year 2007-2010 Rondo and Sportage, model year 2007-2011 Sorento, model year 2007 Sedona, model year 2010-2011 Soul, and model year 2011 Optima vehicles. In September 2013, Kia informed the agency that it was adding an additional 356,719 vehicles to this campaign. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 980,377. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake-transmission shift interlock feature preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
- Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of PARK without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Kia will send an interim notification to owners in May 2013. When parts are available, owners will receive a second notification and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. Owners may contact Kia at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's recall campaign number is SC098.

- Consequence: ANY OF THESE MALFUNCTIONS, ALONE OR IN COMBINATION, MAY LEAD TO A CRASH.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE STOP LAMP SWITCH FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 17, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT KIA'S CONSUMER ASSISTANCE CENTER AT 1-800-333-4542.

I looked at a bunch of different SUVs and ultimately decided on the KIA Sportage. My friends recommended a Honda CR-V, but I'm glad I went with the Sportage because it offers more bang for your buck. I saved a lot of money and got standard upgrades that other SUVs charge for. I highly recommend the KIA Sportage to everyone!

The Kia Sportage is a fantastic car for its price. I was considering a Ford Edge, but I ultimately chose the Sportage and I'm glad I did. So far, it's been performing well, with great fuel economy of 22 in the city and 27 on the highway. While there is some road noise on the highway, everything else about the car is great. I highly recommend it for families of 4 or 5, as the trunk space is ample and the seats fold flat to make it even bigger. The car has a sporty look and a nice touch to it. While it could use more power, it's still a great choice.

When my wife bought her Kia in 2007, it had 150,000 miles on it after just five years. Despite the high mileage, the car has been incredibly reliable. My daughter now drives it 40 miles a day and it's still going strong with 274,000 miles on the original engine and transmission. We've had to replace a few parts over the years, like the water pump, timing belt, shocks, struts, brake pads and rotors, radiator, a/c compressor, plugs, and wires, but overall it's been a great car. There's just a small oil leak around the oil pan gasket, but it's still running well enough for my father-in-law to use it around town.

I recently drove our new Kia Sportage home and I'm really enjoying it. Unfortunately, our previous SUV got totaled when I hit a patch of ice last week. As someone who's used to driving an SUV (we had a mini-van prior to that), I wasn't sure if I'd like the feel of a car, but after test driving the Kia Sportage and the Rav 4, I found that both performed well. Ultimately, we chose the Kia because it was more affordable. I almost bought a Kia several years ago, but at the time, I didn't like the way they drove. However, the 2007 model has greatly improved Kia's performance and reliability tests.

I really like my 07 Kia! It rides so smoothly and is really comfortable. The gas mileage is a bit of a problem, but since it's a crossover SUV, I expected that. I got this car primarily for its safety features.

The vehicle has a cute design, but it may not perform well in winter due to poor traction. Unfortunately, the brakes wore out completely after the warranty expired, requiring a complete replacement in less than two years. While KIA Warranty is known to be one of the best in the business, some dealers may find a way around it, so it should not be the only factor when making a purchasing decision. I had some issues with the front caliper falling off and the rear axle squealing, as well as the battery dying often, but KIA assured me that everything was great. I did have to spend over $600.00 on mandatory services and an additional $500.00 for maintenance per year. Overall, my experience with this car was not great, and I would not purchase another KIA even if it was offered to me for free. However, if you are looking for a car that works well for a year, this may be a good option for you. I just wanted to share my experience so that you can make an informed decision. I recently purchased a car, as I was looking for a more fuel-efficient option than my previous 2001 Chevy Suburban due to the high gas prices. The dealership informed me that the car had a gas mileage of 22 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, which made me very excited. However, during my first out-of-town trip, I noticed that the car's RPM was running at about 3000 in fifth gear while going 70mph, which was disappointing. Upon checking my gas mileage, I found that I only got 23 mpg on the highway, with no city driving at all. Although I am happy with the 21 mpg I get in the city, the highway mileage is not what I expected. As a 22-year-old college student, I am still unable to afford trips home to see my family due to the poor gas mileage of my new Kia. Nonetheless, I am grateful for the car and hope to find ways to improve its fuel efficiency.

This vehicle struggles in snowy and icy conditions. Despite adding 300 lbs of sandbags to my Kia this year, it still did not improve its performance. However, I am confident that with proper winter tires and cautious driving, this vehicle can handle challenging weather conditions.
