2015 Kia Sportage problems
The Kia Sportage (Korean: 기아 스포티지) is a series of automobiles manufactured by the South Korean manufacturer Kia since 1993 through five generations. Initially a compact SUV built on a body-on-frame chassis, the second-generation Sportage transitioned to a car-based platform which placed it into the compact crossover SUV class, and has been developed alongside the Hyundai Tucson. Since the fifth-generation model launched in 2021, Kia developed the Sportage in two sizes with different wheelbase lengths for different markets.
The Sportage has been the best-selling Kia model globally since 2016 after surpassing the Rio. In 2018, the model reached the 5 million production milestone. As of 2023, the Sportage is positioned between the Seltos or Niro and the three-row Sorento in Kia's SUV global lineup.
In 2022, the Sportage won the 'Family SUV' and 'Full Hybrid' categories in the Scottish Car of the Year Awards. In 2023, the Sportage was chosen as Car of the Year in Morocco.

Common 2015 Kia Sportage problems
The Kia Sportage 2015 has been reported to have several common problems, which are discussed in detail below based on the search results.
Engine Problems
The engine is one of the most significant components of a vehicle, and any issues related to it can be quite frustrating. Some Kia Sportage 2015 models have been plagued with engine problems, including repeated stalling, misfires, and even engine failure.
Transmission Problems
The Kia Sportage 2015 has received a number of complaints from drivers regarding transmission problems. Drivers have reported symptoms including jumping during acceleration, a burning smell coming from the hood, and a grinding or shaking feeling whilst driving. These problems are likely to be caused by a faulty torque converter or a transmission fluid leak. A transmission fluid leak may sound less worrying, but it can cause serious damage and even complete transmission failure if left unrepaired.
Fuel Tank Leaking
Owners of the Kia Sportage 2015 have reported that their steel fuel tanks have begun to corrode and leak. Kia itself has recognized this problem and extended their warranty on the fuel tanks. If you’ve noticed a fuel leak in your Sportage, it’s important to get the problem fixed as soon as possible.
Check Engine Light Problems
Drivers have reported issues with the check engine light on their Kia Sportage 2015 illuminating and then switching off again, when there are actually no problems with the vehicle. There are a number of reasons why this might be happening, from minor electrical faults to faulty spark plugs or ignition coils. The only sure way to diagnose why your check engine light is switching on and off in your Kia Sportage is to take your car to a local garage who will be able to diagnose the problem for you.
Brake Problems
Premature wear of brake pads, squealing brakes and faulty brake calipers can frequently cause issues with Kia Sportage 2015 models. In addition, driving in slow traffic and towing heavy loads can exacerbate the problem.
Interior and Exterior Quality
Many Kia Sportage 2015 owners report poor quality trims and finishes inside and outside the vehicle, including faulty door handles, use of cheap materials, faded paintwork and cracked headlights.
Cooling System Problems
The Sportage is vulnerable to cooling system leaks and problems with radiators, thermostats and water pumps, resulting in an engine that has the potential to overheat.
It's important to note that not all Kia Sportage 2015 models will experience these issues. Ensuring your Kia Sportage is regularly serviced helps prevent many of these problems from developing.

Kia stated that since I am the second owner (purchased at 7,800 miles) that I am not eligible for the original warranty. They completed an oil change checked for leaks and sent me on my way. I continued to add oil every 500-1000 miles. On 4/11/24 I was driving me vehicle on the freeway at approximately 75-80 miles per hour when the vehicle lost power and would not drive over 40 miles per hour. - VIN: KNDPBCAC4F7
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: [XXX] Kia Dealer replaced the 2015 Kia Sportage engine under an extended warranty not a recall. (10 months ago) Kia failed to notify us there was a connection issue of the high pressure fuel line on replacement motors. [XXX] daughter drove from Boston to Maine when she arrived home gas vapors were coming out the front grill and between the hood and windshield. When I removed the plastic engine cover and had her start the car fuel sprayed out everywhere. 2-6-24: Kia dealer wont repair the leak because the engine was replaced under an extended warranty and not a recall. 2-7-24: Charles, a supervisor at Kia Customer Care said the same thing, sorry but nothing I can do. So let me understand what you are saying. If two 2015 Kia Sportage come in and both get the engines replaced , one under a recall the other under an extended warranty and then it is discovered that the pipe that connects to the high pressure fuel pump may have been damaged , misaligned or improperly fastened during replacement could result in a fuel leak and fire. Only the owner that had the engine replaced under the recall would be notified. The other owner will be driving around a potential Kia Fireball. He said that unfortunately is the case and our car is out of the warranty period. 18V-907 / SC172 Recall Summary Kia Motors America is recalling certain 2011-2018 Sportage vehicles that previously received an engine replacement under recall number 17V-224, warranty, or the Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) The high pressure fuel pipe that connects to the fuel pump outlet may have been damaged, misaligned or improperly torqued during the engine replacement procedure, possibly causing a fuel leak. This recall affects only some Sportage vehicles. Specifically, it impacts any vehicles that had an engine replacement completed. ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-14
- VIN: KNDPB3AC1F7
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: My youngest son was driving on the highway at 65 mpg when all of a sudden, the car would not accelerate. We lost the ability to keep up the speed. The car literally just would not go. I was in the car and was able to put the hazards on in time to not get hit by the 4 cars behind us! We pulled over barely making it to the next exit. Had to call a tow truck that took the car to our mechanic. The next day I was told the engine was shot because an oil issue. This was something the dealership that I took the car to before for excessive oil consumption issues had told me was inherent to this kia model. Seriously!!!! Kia knew about this issue! I was told by the dealer to keep a very close eye on oil levels, changes etc. Which I did and this happens! Shame on Kia for allowing something like this to happen and not take care of. This is a safety issue! What if I wasn't in the car with my son? What if my teen driver got rearended by someone clearly not seeing he had car issues?? NO lights, No warnings! Just like when the oil issue first came up... the oil light didn't even come on! I cannot provide the mechanic paperwork at this time as I am at work, however I would be happy to if this reaches someone who really cares about safety! I have all the work records performed on the car since I purchased it. How can a company continue to produce and sell cars if they consistently and knowingly have safety issues! Or does it take someone getting killed and the news to report it to have something done?

Over the course of 7 years, I've driven this vehicle for approximately 140,000 miles. It's been a reliable companion on many road trips, with plenty of space for luggage and even a boogie board without crowding the front or back seats. I had an issue with the engine at around 93,000 miles, but KIA replaced it free of charge under warranty. When the engine failed during a road trip, KIA went above and beyond by covering the 100-mile tow, car rental, engine replacement, and even shipping the vehicle back to my local dealer. Based on my positive experience with KIA's customer service, I would definitely consider purchasing a KIA Sportage again.

The front driver seat is uncomfortable.

I recently rented a Sportage for a week and had mixed feelings about it overall. As someone who typically drives a Chevy Suburban, I was surprised at how much gas I had to put in that little Kia. Although I didn't calculate the fuel mileage, I felt like I was gassing up just as much as my big Chevy. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how quiet the car was when I first pulled out of the parking lot. The interior quality seemed very good, although it did take me a while to figure out how to use the windshield wipers. While the suspension was firm, which is the way I like it, the car felt top-heavy and narrow. Despite this, the suspension seemed to handle well. On the interstate, the car felt a little twitchy as the steering was very quick and the narrow car seemed to want to change lanes at the slightest movement. Although the triangular shaped side mirrors were a bit frustrating, I was able to adjust to them. I did have some trouble finding a comfortable driving position, as the windows were a bit small and the bottom of the window was almost beside my ear. However, I think this car would be perfect for a young single person or someone looking for their first SUV. As a 45-year-old father of 5, it wasn't quite the right fit for me. However, if the same mechanicals were in a sedan or coupe, I think I would really enjoy it, as long as I could find a place for my phone.

It's great to hear that you've had such a positive experience with your Sportage over the past 6 years! It's impressive that you've never had any reliability issues. While the front seats may require a bit more adjustment on long drives, it's good to know that the MPG is decent, with the best being 28 on the highway and 21 in town on an SX model, AWD with the 2.0 turbo 4 cylinder. The steering is tight and precise, and the acceleration is impressive at any speed. Although the ride can be a little rough at times, it's important to keep in mind that the suspension is tuned more for sport. It's great to hear that the AWD is excellent as well, especially in the snow. You even drove through 3 feet of snow in PA with no issues whatsoever! It's understandable that you outgrew the Sportage and needed a bigger vehicle. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us!

Looks, feels and runs great! Although, the gas mileage is disappointing at 21-22mpg. Additionally, the safety sensors and technology are lacking, and the navigation is not intuitive. The clock is not always visible, and the numerals are way too small. Updated 2/6/18: The lack of a clearly visible digital clock in a fixed location can be frustrating, as the position of the clock shifts around the screen depending on what mode the car is in. Furthermore, the outside temperature has to be called upon, and is not always present.

I recently purchased a Mustang GT from a friend, but unfortunately it had been totaled by an insurance company and this was not disclosed to me. When my spouse drove it, they noticed it pulled to the left and we discovered the issue when we took it to Ford. As a result, we decided to trade it in and ended up with a 2014 Sportage. While I appreciate the color and height of the Sportage, I find the seats uncomfortable and there is no way to adjust the lumbar support in the lower back. Additionally, the steering wheel does not come down enough, making it difficult to rest my arms on the armrest while driving. Despite turning off the ECO mode, the car lacks power and I find myself filling up at least twice a week. While I am not completely satisfied with my current vehicle, I am hopeful that it will serve me well for the next two years.

Hello! I wanted to share an update on my experience with this car. Unfortunately, after driving it for over 20,000 miles, I encountered an issue with the transmission that was quite disengaging for such a new car. Sometimes when I stopped at a stop sign or light, the car would barely move when I tried to accelerate. After about 30-40 seconds, I would feel a jolt and then the transmission would respond and the car would move normally again. I reported the problem to Kia dealers three times before they finally replaced the transmission. While I'm not sure if this was just bad luck or a quality issue with Kia, I have decided to choose a different make and model for my next car. If you're considering buying a Kia, I would recommend proceeding with caution. Thank you for reading!

I bought a 2014 KIA Sportage SX two years ago, and it only has 3,600 miles on it. Unfortunately, I haven't been driving it much because of the damage done to the dash by the KIA dealership. Despite this, the vehicle looks nice overall, although it's not the most comfortable ride and can be a bit sloppy. The power is decent, but not exceptional. However, the UVO (navigation/stereo) has been a major issue. The unit gives error messages in Korean, which is not helpful in the U.S., and no one at KIA has been able to provide any interpretation information. The unit has locked up repeatedly and has been replaced four times, which has been frustrating. However, I have found a way to keep the music playing by removing the SD card and hitting the reset button repeatedly after it locks up. It's become a bit of a joke among my friends, but it's still frustrating. KIA's customer service needs some serious work. If KIA could get rid of the useless technology that doesn't function correctly and provide a decent service center, it would be a decent vehicle. Unfortunately, I had to cut my losses and get rid of the vehicle at 5,600 miles. I'm glad I no longer own this vehicle, but I hope KIA can improve their products and services in the future.

When I first bought my Kia, I was absolutely in love with it. It was cozy, cute, and great on gas, even though it was quite basic. Unfortunately, my engine failed at 103,000 miles, despite my regular oil changes and maintenance. When I reached out to Kia, they informed me that the previous owner had not taken care of a recall, which meant that I was responsible for the issue. While I strongly disagree with this, I unfortunately had to spend $5,000 to either sell the car or buy a new engine. Needless to say, this experience has left me feeling quite disappointed, and I don't think I would consider buying from Kia again.

The suspension of this product is not up to the mark and can cause discomfort. I would not recommend purchasing it.
