2015 Jaguar F-type problems
The Jaguar F-Type (X152) is a series of two-door, two-seater grand tourers manufactured by British car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover under their Jaguar Cars marque since 2013. The car's JLR D6a platform is based on a shortened version of the XK's platform. It is the so-called "spiritual successor" to the famous E-Type.
The car was launched initially as a 2-door soft-top convertible, with a 2-door fastback coupé version launched in 2013. The F-Type underwent a facelift for the 2021 model year. It was unveiled in December 2019, featuring a significantly restyled front end and dashboard, and simplified drivetrain options. Jaguar announced that the F-Type will be discontinued after the 2024 model year.
F-Type concept (2000)
The F-Type concept was a two-seat speedster with a 3.0-litre V6 engine from the S-Type saloon conceived to compete against light weight sports cars, such as the Porsche Boxster. Geoff Lawson, Jaguar's Head of Design, had been working on the development of the car, leading a team of three designers namely Keith Helfet, Adam Hatton and Pasi Pennanen. His sudden death in 1999 led Ian Callum, the new Head of Design, to continue the project who would present the finalised concept car to the general public at the 2000 Detroit Auto Show to a positive response due to its retro styling which recalled Jaguar automobiles of the 1950s and 60s. At its introduction, the car was quoted to be available with a manual or automatic transmission and an optional all-wheel-drive system. Budget cuts by parent company Ford led Jaguar to pursue its efforts in Formula-One and by 2002, the F-Type project was cancelled due to its failure to meet production feasibility.

Do Jaguar F types have problems?
A well-known problem with the supercharged V8 and V6 models is the timing chain jumping. This is caused by a design flaw in the tensioners and guides.
How many miles can a Jaguar F-Type last?
Most Jaguar vehicles will last for at least 150,000 miles, but there's a lot that a driver can do to push this number much higher. With regular oil replacement, belt changes, spark plug replacement, and other basic maintenance services, you can ensure that your Jaguar lasts for 200,000 miles or more.

Is the F-Type V6 reliable?
Even in the earlier years (of my ownership), they were reliable automobiles. Buy an F-Type R...you will never regret it. The v8 and v6 engines are very reliable. i had my XKR (essentially the same engine) to 60,000km and about 5 years old, it had zero engine issues (it did have a faulty headlamp module).

STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-27
- VIN: SAJWA6A70F8
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: The headliner of the car completely separated from the vehicle. If this happened during driving it would have prevented seeing the road. When presented with the issue the local Jaguar dealer indicated they have had other cars suffer the same issue. It is a known defect that Jaguar has not notified or recalled the vehicle.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-09
- VIN: SAJWA6ET4F8
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Sudden loss of coolant while driving, without any prior warning lights. In my opinion that is unacceptable in a car with a little over 30k miles. F-Type forums all over the world would indicate this is a relatively common issue with some of the pipes under the supercharger being the suspected issue. Enough of an issue that I believe Jaguar redesigned those parts for newer model years, however there is no TSB for older cars at the moment. The current "solution" is owners updating the part themselves or having a shop/dealer replace the whole cooling system at owner's expense after there's a failure. Luckily this happened to me at low speed, but dropping all the coolant onto the road could be dangerous at highway speeds. I suppose there'd also be a risk of burns if it happened with the convertible top down and coolant came up the windshield into the car. Signed, An Automotive Engineer who's seen recalls for less
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-08-23
- VIN: SAJWA6GL4FM
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: MOST ALL INTERNAL BUTTONS AND SWITCHES INCLUDING THE STEERING WHEEL, DASH AND DOOR SWITCHES ARE FAILING. SWITCHES AND BUTTONS ALMOST FEEL LIKE THEY ARE MELTING. THE STICKY RESIDUE MAKES THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS UNRELIABLE INCLUDING TURNING ON/OFF THE VEHICLE, SAFETY WARNING SYSTEMS, WINDOWS, CRUISE CONTROL, LANE ASSIST, ETC. ADDITIONALLY, THE GOEY BUTTONS ON THE CENTER CONSOLE CREATE THE SAME CONCERN FOR OTHER CRITICAL FUNCTIONS OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AMONG OWNERS AND JAGUAR HAS NOT OFFERED A REASONABLE REMEDY. ONE OWNER WHO HAD THESE SAME CONCERNS WAS QUOTED $9,000 TO REPLACE THE FAULTY SWITCHES.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-01-10
- VIN: SAJWA6ET6F8
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE
- Summary: TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 JAGUAR F-TYPE. 2015 Jaguar F-type recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2015 Jaguar F-type.
- Manufacturer: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC
- Components: AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION
- Summary: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Jaguar Land Rover) is recalling certain 2014-2015 Jaguar F-TYPE vehicles previously remedied under Recall 14V-714. The seatbelt harness connector which connects the Seatbelt Tension Sensor (STS) to the Occupant Classification Sensor Control Module (OCSCM) may not have been correctly wired. As a result, the Restraint Control Module (RCM) may not accurately detect if an adult or child is occupying the seat.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment, an incorrect classification may result in the passenger frontal air bag deploying even if there is a child in the front passenger seat, increasing their risk of injury.
- Remedy: Jaguar will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the seat belt assembly and repair the seatbelt tension sensor harness as necessary, free of charge. The recall began June 3, 2019. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827. Jaguar's number for this recall is H208.
- Manufacturer: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING
- Summary: Jaguar Land Rover North America LLC (Jaguar) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 F-TYPE vehicles manufactured August 31, 2012, to October 22, 2014. In the affected vehicles the seatbelt harness connector which connects the Seatbelt Tension Sensor (STS) to the Occupant Classification Sensor Control Module (OCSCM) may not have been correctly wired. The OCSCM senses whether there is an occupant in the front passenger seating position, and the STS senses whether tension on the seatbelt indicates a child restraint is being used in the front passenger seating position. Both sensors provide information to the restraint control module (RCM) which informs whether the front passenger airbag should be activated, depending on whether the sensors detect the seat is occupied and/or that it is occupied by an adult passenger.
- Consequence: Should the STS not have been wired correctly, the front passenger air bag may not be suppressed, and may remain activated, even when a child restraint is placed in the front passenger seat or a small statured adult occupies that seat. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the front passenger air bag, a child or small stature occupant may be at an increased risk of injury.
- Remedy: Jaguar will notify owners, and dealers will correct the harness connector wire configuration, free of charge. The recall began on December 3, 2014. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827. Jaguar's number for this recall is J047.
- Manufacturer: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:ALTERNATOR/GENERATOR/REGULATOR
- Summary: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Jaguar) is recalling certain 2015 F-TYPE vehicles manufactured August 25, 2014, to September 12, 2014, 2015 XF vehicles manufactured September 3, 2014, to September 12, 2014, and 2015 XJ vehicles manufactured August 21, 2014, to September 11, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the Front End Accessory Drive (FEAD) belt, Power Assisted Steering (PAS) pump pulley and/or battery positive cable at the alternator may detach.
- Consequence: If the battery positive cable loosens, an electrical short may result, increasing the risk of a fire. If the FEAD belt looses or detaches, the vehicle may lose power assisted steering, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Jaguar has notified owners, and dealers will inspect the affected engine mounted components for the proper threading and torque, correcting them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began November 10, 2014. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827. Jaguar's number for this recall is J044.

Performance and Styling are outstanding. After 50,000 miles and no major issues with my 2014 F-Type S, it still puts a big smile on my face!
Eriberto Kiehn 2024-09-20
I recently test drove a CPO 911, Vett, and new Boxter, followed by the Jag. In my experience, the Jag outperformed the others in almost every way. However, I would recommend test driving the Jag before purchasing a convertible in this class.

Love the car so far! It has lots of tech, loads of power, great lines, and the best exhaust sound out there. When people see and hear this car, they can't help but be impressed!

Love the performance..but, big but, there's absolutely no room for suitcases or golf bags. So, it's not the ideal car for a weekend getaway.

If you're in the market for a stylish, exclusive, and fun-to-drive sports car that doesn't scream 'mid-life crisis', the Jaguar F-Type should definitely be on your shortlist. With its V8 configuration, you get Corvette-like performance, but with classier styling than the track-focused Corvette, and more exclusivity than the usual offerings from Porsche or BMW with similar performance. The F-Type is simply stunning, with high-quality fit and finish. Its 8-speed auto transmission is fast-shifting and fun to drive aggressively (you really won't miss a manual), but the real joy is in the sound; everyone who rides with you will be grinning from ear to ear! Performance is near-supercar status (in V8 guise), with the supercharged 5.0L engine rocketing to 0-60 in just under 4 seconds and a top speed north of 180 mph. The V8S RWD is tail-happy, so you do have to pay attention coming into high-speed corners (newer versions like the AWD R help alleviate some of this). Steering response is smooth and immediate. Despite its performance-focused suspension, the car still provides a relatively comfortable ride, and getting up to speed is just plain fun, depending on how you want to drive it; think of the F-Type as a cross between a European muscle car and GT cruiser. Electronics (especially the infotainment system) lag a little behind newer offerings, but then I didn't buy the vehicle for infotainment; the real entertainment is in the driving experience as a whole, backed by the wonderful exhaust symphony. And, if you're patient, low-mileage versions can be found at moderate prices (although that is relative too, considering sticker prices are typically near or above six figures for a new one with the V8). If you can, find one with the Performance Pack (better seats, 20-inch wheels, bigger brakes with red calipers, etc.).) and Vision Pack with Blind Spot Monitoring (to help with cross traffic, parking, and backing up since visibility over and around the car’s sumptuous curves is limited) along with other packs/upgrades that enhance the ownership, driving experience, and resale value. I would also suggest investing in an extended warranty that can be purchased from your Jaguar dealership, as it can provide additional peace of mind. It's worth noting that while long term reliability seems to be much improved over previous Jaguar offerings, the F-Type is still relatively new. Thank you for considering these recommendations!
