The Jaguar F-Type (X152) is a series of two-door, two-seater grand tourers manufactured by British car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover under their Jaguar Cars marque since 2013. The car's JLR D6a platform is based on a shortened version of the XK's platform. It is the so-called "spiritual successor" to the famous E-Type.

The car was launched initially as a 2-door soft-top convertible, with a 2-door fastback coupé version launched in 2013. The F-Type underwent a facelift for the 2021 model year. It was unveiled in December 2019, featuring a significantly restyled front end and dashboard, and simplified drivetrain options. Jaguar announced that the F-Type will be discontinued after the 2024 model year.

F-Type concept (2000)

The F-Type concept was a two-seat speedster with a 3.0-litre V6 engine from the S-Type saloon conceived to compete against light weight sports cars, such as the Porsche Boxster. Geoff Lawson, Jaguar's Head of Design, had been working on the development of the car, leading a team of three designers namely Keith Helfet, Adam Hatton and Pasi Pennanen. His sudden death in 1999 led Ian Callum, the new Head of Design, to continue the project who would present the finalised concept car to the general public at the 2000 Detroit Auto Show to a positive response due to its retro styling which recalled Jaguar automobiles of the 1950s and 60s. At its introduction, the car was quoted to be available with a manual or automatic transmission and an optional all-wheel-drive system. Budget cuts by parent company Ford led Jaguar to pursue its efforts in Formula-One and by 2002, the F-Type project was cancelled due to its failure to meet production feasibility.

Do Jaguar F types have problems?

A well-known problem with the supercharged V8 and V6 models is the timing chain jumping. This is caused by a design flaw in the tensioners and guides.

How many miles can a Jaguar F-Type last?

Most Jaguar vehicles will last for at least 150,000 miles, but there's a lot that a driver can do to push this number much higher. With regular oil replacement, belt changes, spark plug replacement, and other basic maintenance services, you can ensure that your Jaguar lasts for 200,000 miles or more.

What are the main problems with Jaguar F pace?

F-Pace

  • Timing Chain Failure | 2.0 Diesel. ...
  • Turbocharger Issues | 2.0 Diesel. ...
  • Crankshaft Failure | 3.0 V6 Diesel. ...
  • Water Pump Failure | 3.0 Supercharged V6 & 5.0 Supercharged V8. ...
  • Coolant Leaks | 3.0 Supercharged V6 & 5.0 Supercharged V8. ...
  • Driveshaft Too Short | Early Auto Models (MY2016)

Is the F-Type V6 reliable?

Even in the earlier years (of my ownership), they were reliable automobiles. Buy an F-Type R...you will never regret it. The v8 and v6 engines are very reliable. i had my XKR (essentially the same engine) to 60,000km and about 5 years old, it had zero engine issues (it did have a faulty headlamp module).

STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-03-27
  • VIN: SAJWA6A70F8
  • Components: STRUCTURE
  • Summary: The headliner of the car completely separated from the vehicle. If this happened during driving it would have prevented seeing the road. When presented with the issue the local Jaguar dealer indicated they have had other cars suffer the same issue. It is a known defect that Jaguar has not notified or recalled the vehicle.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-09-09
  • VIN: SAJWA6ET4F8
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: Sudden loss of coolant while driving, without any prior warning lights. In my opinion that is unacceptable in a car with a little over 30k miles. F-Type forums all over the world would indicate this is a relatively common issue with some of the pipes under the supercharger being the suspected issue. Enough of an issue that I believe Jaguar redesigned those parts for newer model years, however there is no TSB for older cars at the moment. The current "solution" is owners updating the part themselves or having a shop/dealer replace the whole cooling system at owner's expense after there's a failure. Luckily this happened to me at low speed, but dropping all the coolant onto the road could be dangerous at highway speeds. I suppose there'd also be a risk of burns if it happened with the convertible top down and coolant came up the windshield into the car. Signed, An Automotive Engineer who's seen recalls for less

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-08-23
  • VIN: SAJWA6GL4FM
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: MOST ALL INTERNAL BUTTONS AND SWITCHES INCLUDING THE STEERING WHEEL, DASH AND DOOR SWITCHES ARE FAILING. SWITCHES AND BUTTONS ALMOST FEEL LIKE THEY ARE MELTING. THE STICKY RESIDUE MAKES THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS UNRELIABLE INCLUDING TURNING ON/OFF THE VEHICLE, SAFETY WARNING SYSTEMS, WINDOWS, CRUISE CONTROL, LANE ASSIST, ETC. ADDITIONALLY, THE GOEY BUTTONS ON THE CENTER CONSOLE CREATE THE SAME CONCERN FOR OTHER CRITICAL FUNCTIONS OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AMONG OWNERS AND JAGUAR HAS NOT OFFERED A REASONABLE REMEDY. ONE OWNER WHO HAD THESE SAME CONCERNS WAS QUOTED $9,000 TO REPLACE THE FAULTY SWITCHES.
2019-02-11

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-01-10
  • VIN: SAJWA6ET6F8

2015 Jaguar F-type recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2015 Jaguar F-type.

2019-04-25
  • Manufacturer: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC
  • Components: AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION
  • Summary: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Jaguar Land Rover) is recalling certain 2014-2015 Jaguar F-TYPE vehicles previously remedied under Recall 14V-714. The seatbelt harness connector which connects the Seatbelt Tension Sensor (STS) to the Occupant Classification Sensor Control Module (OCSCM) may not have been correctly wired. As a result, the Restraint Control Module (RCM) may not accurately detect if an adult or child is occupying the seat.
  • Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment, an incorrect classification may result in the passenger frontal air bag deploying even if there is a child in the front passenger seat, increasing their risk of injury.
  • Remedy: Jaguar will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the seat belt assembly and repair the seatbelt tension sensor harness as necessary, free of charge. The recall began June 3, 2019. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827. Jaguar's number for this recall is H208.
2014-11-07
  • Manufacturer: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING
  • Summary: Jaguar Land Rover North America LLC (Jaguar) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 F-TYPE vehicles manufactured August 31, 2012, to October 22, 2014. In the affected vehicles the seatbelt harness connector which connects the Seatbelt Tension Sensor (STS) to the Occupant Classification Sensor Control Module (OCSCM) may not have been correctly wired. The OCSCM senses whether there is an occupant in the front passenger seating position, and the STS senses whether tension on the seatbelt indicates a child restraint is being used in the front passenger seating position. Both sensors provide information to the restraint control module (RCM) which informs whether the front passenger airbag should be activated, depending on whether the sensors detect the seat is occupied and/or that it is occupied by an adult passenger.
  • Consequence: Should the STS not have been wired correctly, the front passenger air bag may not be suppressed, and may remain activated, even when a child restraint is placed in the front passenger seat or a small statured adult occupies that seat. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the front passenger air bag, a child or small stature occupant may be at an increased risk of injury.
  • Remedy: Jaguar will notify owners, and dealers will correct the harness connector wire configuration, free of charge. The recall began on December 3, 2014. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827. Jaguar's number for this recall is J047.
2014-10-27
  • Manufacturer: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:ALTERNATOR/GENERATOR/REGULATOR
  • Summary: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Jaguar) is recalling certain 2015 F-TYPE vehicles manufactured August 25, 2014, to September 12, 2014, 2015 XF vehicles manufactured September 3, 2014, to September 12, 2014, and 2015 XJ vehicles manufactured August 21, 2014, to September 11, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the Front End Accessory Drive (FEAD) belt, Power Assisted Steering (PAS) pump pulley and/or battery positive cable at the alternator may detach.
  • Consequence: If the battery positive cable loosens, an electrical short may result, increasing the risk of a fire. If the FEAD belt looses or detaches, the vehicle may lose power assisted steering, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Jaguar has notified owners, and dealers will inspect the affected engine mounted components for the proper threading and torque, correcting them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began November 10, 2014. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827. Jaguar's number for this recall is J044.

Negative 2015 Jaguar F-type car reviews

  1. Jacques Cremin 2025-04-26

I use this car as my daily commuter. Although I have had some small problems with it, such as noise from the vacuum pump behind the driver's seat, the driver's handle going in and out numerous times when using the fob to unlock, the stereo causing vibrations in the door panels and an overall poor sound quality, I still enjoy driving it. Unfortunately, the convertible top motor blew on the second day of owning the car, resulting in a tow back to the shop with the repair that lasted over a month and a half. Additionally, the ultimate black metallic paint on the hood failed with the hood still needing to be repainted, and there was paint failure on the side body panels behind the driver/passenger doors. Lastly, the infotainment system locked up and needed to be 'rebooted' after a software upgrade. However, the service manager and the entire dealership were very friendly and helpful throughout the process.

I traded my XKRS in for the F Type R Coupe. What a difference in feel and performance! The XKRS has the same motor, same HP and torque but feels so much different. With the XKRS, you have to drive very carefully or else you will find yourself pointing in the wrong direction. However, the R Coupe coaxes you into throwing it around. It feels solid and connected, sure-footed and playful - everything the XKRS was not. Well done, Jaguar!

I am 6'2The trunk may be small, but for most owners who use this car for weekend getaways or special occasions, the way the car's lines work so well together will make you forget about the limited space. Sometimes design is more important than function, and in this case, it definitely pays off. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. It's worth noting that in some areas of the country, these cars may be more common, but where I live, they're as rare as a blue moon. Be prepared for lots of attention! A year later, and I still haven't had any issues with my Jag. The more I drive it, the more I appreciate the build quality, design, and how well the car is sorted out. The car's favorite drives are along the back roads near Lake Michigan, visiting the great small harbor towns. Top-down driving is something we thought we would like, but we actually love it. The sounds, smells, and fantastic views transform a normal ride into an adventure. The only small issue I have is that for the money, a real spare tire should be included with each car sold. The owner could then decide whether to carry it or not. I have never once thought that I purchased the wrong model F-Type. The middle one is just so much fun to drive, so balanced, and very powerful, but in a more usable way than the crazy 8. My 2014 BRG black convertible top with a dark brown interior F-Type Jaguar is over 4 years old now, and time really does fly by. I honestly thought that there had to be gremlins lurking in my car somewhere, but the electrical system, fit and finish, and driveline have all been perfect. I only had an oil change (which was on Jaguar) and a tiny paint repair on the seam where the body and the rear fender join up. I understand that this is not particularly uncommon, and it is a few spots where the paint is rubbed off and appears as white spots. It was fixed perfectly under warranty last year. That's it for any repairs or 'gremlins' and it compares well with any of our Toyota's or Honda's. We really enjoy using the car, but honestly, we don't use it as an everyday driver. It's a special car for special drives on special days. Since we live in Michigan, it sleeps the winters away from November until May, so the total mileage on the car is very low, and it goes to sleep on Sunday. Concerns: All Jaguars seem to depreciate faster than they really should. I'm not sure if it's related to a perception of no quality or that they lease too many of them, but the issue is real. However, we didn't buy it for resale, and the market value hit in the first few years is really significant. I guess that provides some great values for the second owners. I'm wondering when the market will be saturated with people looking for this kind of wonderful experience car, but at the expense of everyday practicality. I'm not sure that the market is huge for cars like this. Twenty years from now, we intend to still be cruising along the amazing backroads of Michigan with our car. Another year, very light use. No issues of any kind. We love our F-Type Jag convertible S. It's sleeping now in Fall 2022 after a couple of years of very light use. It's 8 years old and has only 11k miles, which might make ours one of the least used F-Types anywhere. My total costs from new, 1 oil change, that's it. We still love it, no issues, not using it much, but we love it when we do, and it still looks amazing and is rare. We're in our very low 60s, and we drive it in the fall when it's in the 40s & 50s with the heated seats, heated steering wheel, heat on, and the top down, big smiles. I think we will have a really good couple of decades yet to go. If you want one of these, you better act fast. I was correct on my first post that this type of car is quickly going away forever. It's hard to believe that it's almost 10 years old! I just finished hooking up the trickle charger, topping off the tank with ethanol-free premium fuel, and putting on the custom car cover for its seven-month sleep here in wintery Michigan. Since it's only our third car, we don't use it for commuting, only for weekend drives and our annual adventure along the coast of Lake Michigan, which is always magical. I wish we had more time to use it, but we really enjoy the convertible experience and the wonderful drive. With only two oil changes in 14,700 miles from new and original tires with lots of tread remaining, it's been a low-cost investment. I was right in my first post that this type of sporty but impractical 2-seat car was going to fade away, and they have. However, we're lucky to have ours to keep. It's like a favorite pair of shoes - it just fits right and we like it more today than the day we picked it up!

  3. Kelley Bernier 2025-04-26

This is the best sports car I have ever driven! I have tested the 911S, Maserati, BMW, and nothing compares to the fun and excitement that this car provides. It is also the best looking, freshest, and most exhilarating car out there. Even after two years, I feel even more satisfied with this car than before. I have never received so many compliments or had so much fun driving a car. While I was sad to see the car go at the end of the three-year lease, I was also eager to get into a more comfortable and less noisy one. I highly recommend this car to all enthusiasts out there. However, as I take frequent 500-mile drives (about 6 times a year), it's not the best for long drives. Otherwise, it's a fantastic car!

  4. Lukas Roob 2025-04-03

The F Type S V8 is an incredibly sleek and stylish car. When I sat in the driver's seat, it felt like a glove that perfectly contoured to my form. Even when pushing hard on the accelerator, the car remained comfortable. The 'G' forces were definitely present, but it only added to the excitement. The throatiness of the exhaust, with or without the 'ACTIVE' button, was music to my ears and just plain sexy. All the dash controls were easily readable and the steering wheel controls facilitated fast human responses when the car leapt forward. I am thoroughly enjoying every minute of this ride. Thank you, Jaguar!

  5. Jay Fisher 2025-03-22

I was a bit unsure about buying or leasing a Jaguar due to their past reputation for mechanical issues. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and performance of my F-type. It's also a real head-turner and people often ask me about it. It's a beautiful car, although it might be a bit too loud for some.
